I had such a dramatic gasp when you shared the score for the latest Dreamsnap. I’m very invested in this experiment now. Your photo was well done. This is also incentive to not spiral after submitting a photo.
Another good reason to share the information! A Lot of players are SO hard on themselves when their Dreamsnap underperforms. I try to always remind players that there are so many aspects of the voting system beyond our control. If this theory ends up holding up, it can be yet another way to gain some of that control back!
I think a good idea for dream snap voting would be to add an additional 50 moonstones you can earn by making an additional 50 votes instead of how it is now where it’s 10 for 50 moonstones. That way we can earn 100 moonstones total for voting but to get the second 50 we’ll have to vote a lot more.
I agree 100% and was thinking about this in today's video. With how many moonstones are circulating these days, 50 moonstones just don't seem like a great incentive. 😅
I think they should add rewards every 50 or 100 votes, maybe something like a furniture pouch or random resources - to give people a reason to continue voting. You know the issue is only to get worse over time, people are going to get burned out on this subsystem.
@@kenrk I don’t know if regular furniture pouches would motivate players though. Unfortunately once you get pretty far into the game most things you get you already own. You honestly don’t even have to be to far into the game either to experience doubles. Maybe if they brought in old star path item pouches or just more moonstones. Just have to vote way more than 10 more times for more. I just know furniture pouches wouldn’t really motivate me since 95% of the ones I open I already have the item.
@@stevieblu3121 maybe if they introduced a handful of dreamsnap specific items that only appear in those pouches, and have the chance of appearing in the pouch grow greater as you vote more.
@avalonvayle1111 50 moonstones per 1 vote is a lot though there would be no point in participating in dreamsnaps if you could just vote 100 times and get 5,000 moonstones. If they want people to vote more they need to give an incentive but it can’t be to easy to maintain to either.
This makes so much sense. I've never ranked high except when Dreamsnaps first started. My work schedule makes it tough to submit early so I always submit on Tuesdays. Despite putting so much time and effort I've never gotten above 1200 moonstones (except for the 2500 in the beginning). I think you're on to something!!!
I didn't believe it had any impact when I first started this test. Even this Dreamsnap performing bad isn't the *main* reason I think the theory holds merit. To me, the most curious thing is the previous four weeks. All of those Dreamsnaps were pretty standard for me... yet they all ranked higher than normal!
Your theories about why submitting later gives you lower scores make a lot of sense. It's really so hard to tell because scores could be due to a multitude of factors, like maybe people just didn't vibe with your submission (I thought it was fantastic!) I wish you could test this with the same Dreamsnap submitted earlier vs later. I don't get a ton of time to play and am usually submitting my Dreamsnaps on Mondays/Tuesday nights, and my scores have been all over the place. Maybe I need to push myself to submit earlier!
I agree! There are a few people in the comments who believe this Dreamsnap did poorly because it used Scar and one person claimed it was because I didn't face the camera. Though, these comments aren't addressing the poor performance of the other late submissions. They're also not addressing the fact that when I started purposefully submitting earlier, my rank actually increased. Even if I submitted this photo on day one there's still a chance it could have failed to get 4K moonstones... but that doesn't take away from the fact that for the previous 4 (early) challenges I saw my Dreamsnaps consistently rank higher than normal. I think a lot of people are confused because they think the message here is "Submit Early = Good Rank" and "Submit Late = Bad Rank" but the whole point of the video is to address that the time of submissions is only one *small* variable. It's not that black and white. After weeks of testing and participating in *every* Dreamsnap challenge, I believe Dreamsnaps distribute in the order in which they are received. Sometimes, this will have little to no impact on score... but sometimes it will. Therefore, to maximize potential, it's best to submit early so long as you're comfortable and proud of your submission. 😁
@@Probably_Senpai yep, I totally get what you're saying. Since it's one variable we can control in order to possibly help get a higher rank, why not submit earlier? Worst case scenario, it doesn't make a difference. Best case scenario, you get a higher score than you would have compared to submitting last minute. Also, I definitely don't think that your avatar facing away from the camera has anything to do with the low score. I've seen TONS of submissions with the avatar not facing the camera who got 4000 moonstones!
I would agree with the timeliness of your submission theory... Since Dreamsnaps first started my ranks have been all over the place. The only issue I do have with the whole Dreamsnaps challenge is this: Challenges start over on Wednesdays, just like Scrooges shop reset; I work W-Sat, which means that the earliest I would be able to do a submission is Sundays. That being said if the time you submit our photo, does play in (even if only a little) to the ranking I think that this is not really fair to some players.
While I think this theory likely holds some water, the better way to test this is to create a secondary account and make the same exaxt dreamsnap with both accounts (indoors for decorative). Also, vote the same # of times for both. I also think that for me submitting day 1-3 often means I had a better idea I liked and wanted to execute while my late submissions I was not feeling the theme at all. Unfortunately, I think that people just had no love for scar this week and this is what's reflected here.
Ok, I’m going to try to test it next week using your idea of a 2nd account. I have a friend’s console at the moment, so I will try my best to do the same or as close to same as I can. I think you’re right about Scar, too… no love… 😂 I submitted 2, and one of them had Scar, and it was a pretty good photo, and it did worse than my other one. I expected it to do better. 😂
Okay, to add more data points. I ALWAYS submit late, Sunday-Tuesday. I don’t have time earlier in the week to work on these. Dreamlight ball-2500, 11533 Ocean views-600, 52188 Earth and Air-2500, 8336 Fire and Water-4000, 736 Rainbows-4000, 475 Dreamers Unite-900, 33236 Forget Me Not-4000, 4776 Dreamy Kitchen-4000, 503 Dapper Delights-4000, 1136 Critter Love-4000, 890 Fun With Fall-2500, 8266 Frightfully Festive-1500, 15990 Swashbuckle n Swagger-4000, 3103 Bedroom Beauty-1500, 13558 Trick or Treat-4000, 4293 Something Wicked-1200, 21189 I don’t put a huge amount of time into these, but I end up with a decent looking submission, and always at the end of the submission period. I’ve got 4000 half of the time. I don’t think the time you submit the entry has any bearing on your eventual score.
I agree with you, personally also post late a lot of the time and get 4000 moonstones quite a lot. His picture was good, but I can see why it didn't rank as high as he expected (using Scar and not facing the camera). I think the order is more determined by the amount of tags in the picture.
It also seems like a lot of people who used a Scar theme didn’t do as well overall. I wonder if you would’ve still ended up with this rank if you would’ve used Ursula.
Interesting enough, this morning I watched Serroh's live stream and most of players that submitted a snap picture with Scar got few moonstones and ranking, only 2 of Scar snaps we saw got 4k moonstones, apparently people didn't like Scar for some reason
Yep, but that has a bit more to do with Scar's limited decor. Also, this video isn't about the Scar Dreamsnap. It's about my previous 5 dreamsnaps in total. This video isn't trying to pitch that this Scar dreamsnap somehow deserves 4K moonstones. 2500 or 1500 would have felt reasonable. 1200 is another story. The video also focuses on the fact that my previous 4 weeks of dreamsnaps have consistently ranked higher than normal... and I submitted them *earlier* than normal. I'm not sure why so many comments seem to focus on this one Scar dreamsnap when this video clearly shows a massive increase in rank and consistency for my over the past 4 weeks in a row. 😅
Very interesting theory. Something else to possibly test - submitting something quick and easy the first day, and then fine-tuning it through the week to re-submit final Dreamsnap on Tuesday. Does submitting something hold your place in the "early que" or each submission gets "re-qued?"
If you are able- maybe start a google doc form and gather more data- meaning everyone’s ranks/scores/moonstone wins. Distribute it to other content creators so they can send it to their fan bases too. More data makes better conclusions.
Very, very true. Right now, I'm mostly going off of my own personal data and what I hear from my community. It would be nice to have a larger pool to review.
Omg Ali and I have been talking about this for a while now. We both take our time to make a great submission (sometimes taking all week to make it) and it's so disheartening to score lower when we see all these "yard sales" when we vote. Thank you for "taking one for the team" in order to test this theory. Hopefully DDLV will see it and hopefully fix the dreamsnaps mechanics.
I love the effort here and thanks for sharing. Your content is always so fun and helpful. However I’m on a 10 week 4000 stone streak and I almost always do my snap on the Tuesday before 🤷🏻♀️ but I live to break data 🤣
One reason why I've been speculating. This is because a lot of people get the same dreams naps at the same time. I wondered what circumstances would make that happen and circulation of the pictures correlating to when it is submitted makes sense
honestly looking at your snap i think the idea is very creative and the depth is good. now the possible downsides. your character is turned around and could turn some away to what you were put against. the color doesnt really pop well with most of the image being brown tones. the two lions in the back could be harder to notice for people who speed vote. lastly scar himself might not be as popular as ursula or Maleficient. So overall what i think about your ranking....i can see this snap being as high as a 4000 reward but being fully possible to be a 1500 or 1200 one. i think your potential range was pretty wide. I do like it alot and would have voted it over alot of what I saw
Thanks! I apprecoate that... but this video is about way more than just the Scar dreamsnap. You're only addressing one small portion. What about the previous 4 dreamsnaps that all reflected an improved average rank? What about the previous two late submissions that underperformed? This video isn't about the Scar Dreamsnap. It's about a series of tests that has yielded interesting and (more importantly) consistent results. You don't find it odd at all that this Dreamsnap just happened to be at the *lowest* end of your suggested probabilities? Seems a little too convenient to me. Who knows, though! Maybe every single result for the past several weeks has just all been one big coincidence! Either way, I've decided to fully commit to submitting early. It clearly won't hurt as my overall rank is drastically higher when I do so!
@Probably_Senpai there is a possibility your theory of late entry can hurt your rank is true. probably something we will never know unless the dev team gives us more info on how voting/rank/score work. it's a good test but there are alot of factors to why or why not an image does well
Thanks! I appreciate the vote of confidence! I don't necessarily believe my Scar submission deserved 4K by any means... but rank 22000 is pretty extreme, and it's an extreme difference when compared to my usual placement. This is similar to what I saw with both Earth & Air / Fun with Fall. A lot of commenters seem to be under the assumption that this theory exists simply to rationalize the poor performance of the Scar dreamsnap, but it's actually got a lot more to do with my recent (and consistent) increase in rank when I started submitting earlier.
I've been thinking something was off, my dreamsnaps look similar to those that are top 5,000 ranked but i keep ending up 10-20k ranked. This makes complete sense honestly. this week (outdoor theme) is probably one of my favorites and i submitted it like an hour after the refresh, so hopefully it does good!
It's great that you are prepared to do this test. I had not thought of the timing until now as I take a day or so - at least - to play with ideas. Much appreciated and a lot to think about, esp as it does make sense.
I’ve been wondering if that was the case. Well…I know what I’ll be working on tonight. I’ve only submitted 2 dreamsnaps…Trick or Treat and Something Wicked. And I did it the night before the submissions ended. I got 900 and 600, respectively…and, I thought the pictures were way better than those scores.
Your Dreamsnap is incredible!!! I agree with your theory b/c the past couple of times I submitted my submissions in a couple of days before the challenges ended and earned 1200 Moonstones. I’ve just submitted my pics for the Camp Dreamlight theme today on both of my consoles
All of my early Dreamsnap submissions get 4K moonstones. The only three that haven't were submitted late. Like I stated in the video, my best rank EVER was actually a late submission, but at the time, there were a lot of voters. It's actually quite possible that ALL of your Dreamsnaps deserved 4K moonstones... but as you stated, some of them didn't receive that reward. Since you always submit last minute, it's entirely possible that's why you haven't gotten 4K every time. The thing is, submitting late shouldn't hurt if adequate votes are circulating... but if you submit late on a week where players are not voting as much, evidence seems to suggest it will carry a negative impact to your rank and rewards.

The only dreamsnaps I didn’t get 4k was the first DS dreamlight ball and the beach one. also another thing I hadn’t considered is what if you submit early but you resubmit later. Do you change positions or do you hold you intital spot? 🤔 if so even my early ones were prob late bc I tend to spiral LOL
In addition to what you've pointed out, I will note another problem that I see: So many times I am voting between two Dreamsnaps where it doesn't seem like either person put much effort into it and I don't really want to give a vote to either, sometimes I'll even exit and not vote. So the reality is that it's not so much about how great your Dreamsnap is, but if you are lucky or unlucky enough to go against someone else who either put hours of effort in or didn't try at all, and that kinda sucks because it's completely luck based. If there was a team whose entire job it was to look at EVERY Dreamsnap every week and rank them all on the same criteria, that would be a much more fair ranking than if you made a great Dreamsnap and just happened to get matched up with someone who killed it, and how many times is your photo going up? I would have thought that EVERY person would get a roughly equal number of chances to get voted on, but now I think that's pretty not the case at all. Dreamsnaps voting/scoring needs to get revised, and I hope they are paying attention.
I'm not going to lie, I always submit my dreamsnaps within the last 4-8hrs before it resets. I consistently get 4k except on dreamsnaps that I know are way off base or some sort of reference. So, since the start of dreamsnaps I haven't got 4k maybe a total of 5 times, and like I said, it's always on ones where I make a reference or just submit something I know doesn't fit the theme.
This actually makes sense with the dreamsnaps I've done badly on which I thought were really good, they were either late entries or I'd edited them and resubmitted
I really love this experiment. I've been busy some weeks and I've been late submitting and my moonstones have been less for sure. Now I'm really going to pay attention to when I submit.
If submitting at the beginning of the week, gets you a good place in the queue, it would be interesting to see if you resubmit later in the week, do you maintain your spot at the beginning of the queue from the first “place holder” submission? That would make another interesting test.
This actually makes a lot of sense. I scored the lowest I ever have on the last two dream snaps I submitted, but because of my schedule I couldn't submit them until right at the end. I usually score 2500 or higher and my last two were 900 and then 600 and I thought they were two of my best works.
Love your entry and i also agree on your theory. With all your advice you gave me and submitting on a Wednesday i always see 4k moonstones. The times i submitted few days later usually didnt do so good.
So there for a while I was posting mine the last 2 or so days, now I’ve been logging on first thing Wednesday, and now I’m doing my dreamsnaps day 1, I was a 2 hour before 9am Wednesday morning dream snap poster, didn’t have very good placement. But they are getting better! I’ve gotten 1200 moonstones the last two weeks! I’m aiming for higher, this weeks I took the time to set up, took me about 2 hours this morning. 🥰

For a LONG time now I have been saying that however the system functions increasing the number of Votes we need to do in order to get the moonstones would MASSIVELY improve things. And if they could make it a daily thing to do as well all the better.
I have gotten nearly 4k moonstones every week, and I almost without any question submit it with less than 12 hours till reset. Your ranks are higher than I tend to get! But I'm just thankful for my 4k each week with 3 exceptions since dreamsnap started 😊
I was voting on the Wall-E’s garden snap yesterday and I saw so many that were just their character in a room of their house or just stood at a totally plain (sometimes totally empty) Wall-E’s garden. So little effort in some of the snaps and I honestly don’t know how they even met the required conditions..!! Not sure if a glitch, but I have previously seen the same snap appear twice while I’ve been voting too, which felt wrong. I always vote until I hit the 50 moonstones and then I continue until I get to two snaps where I don’t like either of them

I totally agree with you. My last few submissions have been late Tuesday night (once even around 12:30 AM Wed morning) and I get under 1000 moonstones. Once I even received 300 moonstones! The time when I was on vacation and submitted on a Saturday I ranked 2500. Yes, it could be the my submissions are trash, but I noticed what you are saying to be true. Unfortunately, adulting comes first so sometimes I’m really unable to submit until the last minute. 😢
You might be correct. My first dreamsnap was dreamy kitchen. Out of all the dreamsnaps between then and now I've had one turn out 4000 moonstones. All the others are 1200 or less and 2 were 2500. I almost always submit on the last day. Almost practically the last minute because I keep second guessing and trying to snap a better one. I always go all out staging them. I even out where everything is for balance and I often use tricks to create some depth. Also try to play with lighting. I'm thinking my garden one though, maybe I made a mistake holding my pet pig.

I just started doing dreamsnaps and was so sad with how bad my rank was, because I put a lot of effort into it and it's really a hassle to do on the switch. But I've submitted it like 1 or 2 days before it ended, so that cheers me up a bit 🤣 lets see how the next ones get.
I stopped putting so much effort into my snaps, tbh I started just throwing furniture down that matched the theme and would make it like 30/7 for each category. This also meant that I was submitting my photos much earlier in the week. When I put thought into them I would keep updating it until the last moment. When I didn’t put effort in has been the only times I’ve gotten 4K moonstones. The photos I’ve been proud of but submitted on the last day, I only got 600 moonstones. Even in those I put a lot of the relevant furniture in but still ranked poorly so I just have given up on trying to make it look good. Not proud of that but is the truth.
This is definitely a good theory! I really wonder if we stay matched against the same snap all week or if they constantly shuffle who we are up against
I feel certain they shuffle. Once Dreamsnaps start receiving more votes they'll have a higher priority to circulate. Otherwise it would be difficult to determine the higher ranks.
This just means everyone is going to start submitting early (or trying to). 😅 When Dreamsnaps first started, I actually thought submitting early meant your submission was shown first, but then I thought that didn’t make sense so I stopped minding when I submitted. I wish I kept records of when I submitted each dreamsnap to help with the data collection.
I always submit mine late, and only ever gotten 4k twice since it started. My lowest being 600 which was the something wicked challenge and for me was the best one I've ever submitted in my opinion. I got kind of annoyed so I decided to test myself and submit this new walle challenge literally moments after the reset. Also for the voting these past 2 weeks I didn't vote a lot because I was seeing absolutely nothing to do with the themes and I didn't want to waste more time voting. Whereas for the bedroom challenge I voted alot throughout the week and saw alot of people with 4k results but these past 2 weeks I saw alot of people complaining not getting the reward they thought. So I think the voting has a lot of impact for dreamsnap as the ones that pop up when I start voting are either selfie poses or no background for outfit or for decor with just items placed behind them randomly.
I'm a new subscriber and about 3 weeks into my Dreamlight life. How does a NOOB with little cash and inventory, make a dreamsnap that meets requirements and looks acceptable? So far I've not been able to complete the Vanellope. Love your channel and am learning so much from you.
This tracks with what I’ve seen in my game. Submitted late for Trick or treat and ranked much lower than usual, (1200 moonstones) but I ranked 351 for something wicked which I submitted really early.
Great video. Very interested to see your walle result to see if it follows the trend. I went scar too and didn't do well. Seemed a lot of scars ranked poorly. Disappointed ppl didn't think scar was on theme as I think it very much was based on the description
*Some quick clarity for my friends here on RU-vid!* So, it seems a lot of you are misunderstanding the video and criticizing/pointing out the use of Scar. Stating a lot of people did poorly with Scar. That's fine... but the point of this video is *not* to argue my Dreamsnap deserved a higher rank... The point of this video is to reveal the crazy consistency of the previous 4 weeks. I've received 4K moonstones for 14 of 17 challenges now. My average is likely somewhere around rank 2500 or 3000. Though, upon submitting earlier than normal, for 4 weeks in a row, my rank was well above average. (Around rank 1000) These past 4 dreamsnaps were my usual work. Nothing to crazy. Sure, the Scar dreamsnap *may* have suffered because players didn't care for Scar, but what about the other late submissions? Every time I submit early, hundreds of people on Twitch & RU-vid claim to have seen my dreamsnap when voting... Though with the dreamsnaps I've had that have underperformed, only around 1 to 2 people typically mention seeing them. It's quite odd. I also want to be clear about this as well... Many of you seem to think this video suggests that submitting late means you will automatically do bad, and submitting early means you will automatically do good... I thought I was extremely clear that this was NOT the case? Maybe not clear enough? 😕 It is NOT that black & white! Trust me! There are a ton of variables! The point of this video is to reveal that I noticed a substantial rank benefit when I submitted it earlier for 4 weeks in a row. The video also highlights that my dreamsnaps that did suffer poor visibility were my later submissions. Never once did I say ALL my late submissions did bad... on the contrary, I pointed out that my BEST dreamsnap rank ever was a late submission. Hopefully, reading this will help increase the overall understanding of what I'm trying to communicate in this video! Cheers!
I submitted this week's results with about 7 hours left of the challenge 😅 I'm usually finishing mine around the same time, but put a lot more effort than I did into this one. I had a migraine that day, so I didn't focus too much on aesthetics, but I did manage to get 51/4 of the Simple tag and 36/4 with the Strong tag. Obviously unsure of the suggested. I didn't think the photo was good, and was surprised to log in and see that I still got 4k moonstones. Score 78.25 and Rank 4415 and 179 pixel dust. For rainbows challenge, I got rank 11,983/1500 moonstones For Earth And Air challenge, I got rank 6,484/2500 moonstones For Ocean views challenge, I got rank 8,463/1500 moonstones For all of the others, I got 4k moonstones, as a last minute entry person 😅 The only one I did early, was Wall-e's garden. Maybe it will be my highest rank yet, we'll see! I doubt my information helps at all, but it is a very interesting theory!
I just returned this week from a long hiatus from the game so the garden challenge was my first ever dreamsnap. Already nervous about how I will do because I'm so new, but good to know that I shouldn't feel too bad if I get a terrible score because I submitted with only about 9 hours remaining to do so. I can say that I'm confident my composition & lighting is better than what I'm seeing in voting, and I'm perfectly on theme and both my outfit and Wall-E are visible and well framed. So hopefully that will boost me a little, but not expecting too much after seeing this video and knowing how incredibly late I was to submit. Now I'm rushing to do the camping dreamsnap as we speak so I'm not super late this week! Thanks for this experiment and tip! I play a lot of games with similar photo challenges or just great photo/lighting tools (the Nikki series, Second Life, and some beautiful open world MMOs), so I'm really excited to return and find this feature. Love being a virtual photographer!
I’m gonna be as honest as I can be here. You’re previous dreamsnaps photos have blown me away. This current dreamsnaps photo I would not vote on, simply because you’re turned around. I promise you man, that’s why it did so bad. You can’t see that you’re bending down, especially when you’re skimming through dreamsnaps to vote on, and you’re not facing the camera. Doesn’t matter how good the background is. That’s not to say it’s a bad picture in idea, but the end result does not translate to the voter. I think that 22k is wild… but also I would have a hard time voting for this
Respectfully, I have to disagree. 😁 That perspective would make sense with an outfit challenge, but the subject of this challenge was the villain. I don't expect *everyone* to like my dreamsnap. Though, I think it's a bit of a stretch for you to assume everybody votes the same way you do. I've actually shared this Dreamsnap with a lot of people today and they loved it. The biggest issue with your theory here is that you're failing to address my other two late Dreamsnaps that underperformed, neither of which showed the back of my character. (Earth & Air / Fun With Fall) When I revealed my "Fun With Fall" submission my comment section was flooded with people saying they felt that I got robbed. Another interesting thing with that particular submission was that hardly anybody saw it. Each week, when I submit early, literally HUNDREDS of people tell me they saw my Dreamsnap. On my late submissions, out of the hundreds of people, only about two to three people on average say they saw it. If you had access to thousands of player opinions and perspectives as I do, you'd probable look at this the same way. It looks to me that since you don't care for this Dreamsnap in particular you're writing off the entire theory (and the 5 weeks of research) while ignoring an abundance of evidence. Lastly, you really can't really "Promise" that's why it did bad. You're simply letting your personal feelings guide your "promise" rather than reviewing the evidence at hand. Like I stated at the beginning of this video 2500 or 1500 moonstones would have been reasonable but a rank of 22000 is extraordinarily low. If you really want to dispute the theory, you'd probably want to lead with something other than your "feelings" about my submission. and you'd need to address the low visibility with other late submissions.

Uh oh, I got the worst ever ever for me on Dreamsnaps. A lousy 600 moonstones for Something Wicked. I wasn't really inspired by that one and left it late. This past week, I thought I took a beautiful shot for Wall-E's garden ( I have gotten a handful of 4000 moonstones in the past) but I ran out of time, being super busy this past week and couldn't submit until Tuesday... Aw man, I liked that shot. 😢 Now I'm worried for it's results as I didn't have time until Tuesday. The camping/stargazing I submitted today, so I hope I do better, as now I predict you might be right? The devs should fix this, as people do work and might not be able to submit until Tuesday!
This is interesting. But with the Something Wicked submission I know I submitted Monday evening and I got the best ranking I’ve ever had at 1215 and got 2,500 moonstones. Usually I get between 1,200 and 1,500 moonstones. Shrugs. Needs more testing for sure.
There's so many factors to control. Like for example how many of each tag including the optional tags did you have?if you have different numbers of tags the you don't have a good control you would need to have all the other factors covered to truly test. Not saying you're wrong or right, just that testing would need to control for all the other factors that are known.
This would make sense to me. I vote right away after I get my results, so the newer ones I would probably see first. I might start voting later on to see the later submissions.
Very interesting, I will say I do mine then my 6 year olds dream snap hers did better this week than mine normally do mine within first couple days and hers on the weekend.
I think you're onto something. I submitted the last two challenges super early and I received 4000 moonstones for both, while I think what I did was not that good. I just dropped items that fit the theme and took a picture. I work less than 15 minutes on them. Honestly I don't understand how I got 4000 moonstones. I normally have 1500 moonstones on what I think are good pictures that I submit in the middle of the week.
I have had dreamsnaps that got 1500 or 2500 when I uploaded them on the day the challenge released. but I do think your dreamsnap this week was good but it was one of your weaker ones and now I'm saying that when most of your dreamsnaps have been top tier. so yah. that doesn't nessasarly mean much
I'm not sure about this theory. It might be true but it's hard to prove unless someone makes two different accounts and makes two similar submissions. Personally I haven't seen any difference in my results no matter if I submit my photo early or late. Most of the time I submit my photo less than a day before the time ends and I have ranked in top700 6/10 times (I haven't submitted a photo every week). I usually submit a photo in the first couple days but I end up changing it so many times that my last submission is usually from the last day. I submitted my something wicked photo less than a day before the time ended and I ranked 61. Most of the scar submissions didn't do good so it might explain your lower results. There is something off with dreamsnaps ranking but the reason behind it could be also something else. It's partly luck and people have so many different opinions on what kind of photos they like the most. And many people might just vote for something randomly. Edit: I think many things affects the rank. I personally haven't seen any difference between results no matter when I submit my photos. It's a good theory but I'm a little sceptical about it because I think it's more about many other reasons why the ranking system is off.
Well, there's pretty much no way for me to actually *prove* any of this. It's all just a fun theory for entertainment purposes. Moving forward, (at least for me) I plan on consistently uploading earlier in the week as I've seen an improvement and a lot more consistency in doing so. Your experience may be different.

I still think it’s more about several things together affecting the rank. But I will try to submit my photos earlier from now on and see if it makes any difference lmao
And to be fair, the wicked theme was a tricky one. I believe one of the most important components for a high rank is that it has to be obvious - both in fitting the theme and in picture idea. The theme this week did say you can showcase any villain, but it had a the wicked and villainous description and people were looking for that. So when players go voting, they look at the submission only a second, if at all. It has to fit instantly and obviously the theme and I think scar didn't. If a scar submission was beside a dark and forgotten lands vibe, the dark one would get the vote most of the time. Try the same test with a submission that fits the theme like a glove!
As stated in the video, this is definetely something I've already done and am still doing! The Fun With Fall submission. The Earth & Air Submission. Plus the upcoming WALL-E submission. I think you're focusing too hard on just *one* point of data from all of these 17 weeks of Dreamsnaps ranks and rewards. This photo could have certainly been impacted because of Scar not being a fan favorite. Though, that point completely fails to address why my rank became consistently higher on the previous 4 weeks while submitting early. I definitely think many players considered the "Demonstration" photo as an interpretation of the challenge and therfore assumed Scar wasn't appropriate. Although, the Dreamsnap did fit the theme description perfectly. Wicked - evil or morally wrong Villainous - relating to, constituting, or guilty of wicked or criminal behavior. This submission did 100% fit the wording of the description. However, I'm more than aware it didn't "match" the demonstration photo. So, in closing, this submission did fit the theme like a glove. It just isn't the same direction many players took it and I'm certain that had a negative impact. However, that's all besides the point. The point of this video is *multiple* points of data spanning across several weeks and throughout my entire experience with Dreamsnaps seem to suggest that visibilty is more consistent with earlier submissions. At least in my experience.
I feel like I never score as much as I should, and I always submit at the later end of the timeframe. The highest I've ever received was 1200. I've seen other snaps that I think are on par, and the players always get 4000. I definitely think your theory is right! I've been wondering about this today, so it was interesting to see your video
Not to refute your theory I still agree it may be a factor but a discord I noticed that dreamsnaps with scar for something wicked got mostly low scores, maybe people just don't like scar lol
How do you pose with a fox like that?!? All of mine have me sitting on the ground with them. As far as the early/late submission theory, I submitted on the last possible moment for Fun With Fall on 2 separate Switch accounts and placed 10th and 11th. My submissions are always done within the first 2 days and I’ve gotten some horrible scores 🤔. They must not be very good then. You should have people submit their photos to you and also their scores on a sample of the submissions to see if their picture is truly pretty good or not very good. It’s an interesting theory.
Well, as I stated in the video submitting early definitely does NOT guarantee a good rank. Your Dreamsnap would still have to win its match ups most of the time! There are also other aspects you have no control over, like who you paired up against. Even when you submit early you might just end up paired against some exceptional competition. It's something we can't test or control. However, if submitting early at least provides *some* benefit to visibility it's yet another way we're able to regain a small amount of control in performance.
I just wanna let you know keep working on your dreamsnaps, it has nothing to do with what day you submit. I literally submit my dreamsnaps minutes to when it’s done I consistently get 4k moonstones. My advice is TAGs NOT TIME. also put in effort into your photo with good lighting.

I vote a ton. Lol. Almost every week I submit on Wednesday or Thursday. The best I have ever ranked is 8896, and 2500 moonstone. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have stopped updating my dreamsnap but even that was at the latest Friday's.
I'm sorry Senpai, but I don't think this is the best test to do at the moment. A lot of people did a Scar theme (me included) and they ranked very poorly only a handful did well. I submitted my snap a day or two after the challenge was revealed and I got 600 moonstones, 57.01 score, and 50324 ranked. The same thing happened last week with the Trick or Treat ranking, a lot of people ranked really low but had beautiful submissions. The visibility/algorithm has gotten worst whether it's due to the end of the year back-to-back holidays, the new expansion, or the drama of not being free to play.

Well above my average rank for 4 weeks in a row. Submitting earlier doesn't GARAUNTEE 4K but the evidence suggests that earlier submissions can at times, have better visibility as opposed to later submissions. I think the issue here is a lot of people are trying to view this as absolute. Like submitting early somehow will automatically be good and submitting late will automatically be bad. What I aim to communicate is that submitting early could potentially provide a slight edge so long as the Dreamsnap is good enough. Don't forget the video also states that the test continues next week as well.
@@Probably_Senpai I understand where you are getting at; however, you are working with a small portion of data that is only your own. It would be more beneficial if you have other data that can come from your community to back up your claims. You can do comparisons from that, that will make your information more viable.
I always summit as soon as I can. This week’s camping 🏕️ theme was easy because I had a spectacular campground that I didn’t have to fiddle with too much.
I truly don’t believe it has much if anything to do with when you submit. I found a pattern lately. First, a few facts: my very first 4k photo was submitted at the very last minute. Almost all of mine are submitted in the first 2 days and my scores and ranks vary. What has impacted my ranks the most honestly appears to be the brokenness of Dreamsnaps. Here’s what I think, and why: when Dreamsnaps voting is showing us all those garbage quest photos, task photos, prior weeks submissions, what’s happening is the trash is taking away from the real content in multiple ways. First, our submissions aren’t being seen nearly as much as they would if it was working correctly because the voting pool is cluttered up with all the trash that doesn’t belong. Second, I think all the nonsense showing up - naturally- impacts people’s desire to vote. I absolutely don’t believe for a minute that people are actually submitting that stuff, either intentionally or by mistake. There are WAY too many for that many people to be making the same mistake. The voting is for sure broken. This on their end to fix the voting pool so that only real submissions for that week’s challenge are appearing. A few weeks ago, during the bedroom voting, it was working really well and none of that garbage was showing up (at least not for me). That was, and remains, my best ranking photo yet and the only time I ever broke top 1000. Now, I noticed today when voting on Wall E, just like with Bedroom, I saw almost no “garbage” photos, so it will be interesting to see if that continues and what happens in results. Last week, with Something Wicked, there was much more of the trash than usual and I did EXTREMELY badly. Im not the best photo creator but I’m certainly not the worst, I usually do pretty well when it’s working. I’ve had 4k probably 8-9 times, and a lot of 2500 too. With Something Wicked, I submitted TWO photos (again, within the first 2 days), and they were both good enough for at least 2500. I got 900 and 1200. It’s the voting pool, and I’m more sure of it than ever. I started to suspect after the Critter one, because I for sure should have done better on that. Trick or treat voting was FULL of garbage. It felt like 25-30% of it was from Pirate week. Something Wicked was even worse. It was full of bedroom and Halloween, and I saw several that were clearly from Kitchen. I really believe it’s the broken voting pool that is hurting players the most.
I think you’re on to something 🤔 I don’t mean to sound conceited, but I’m going to anyways. My Dreamsnap submissions are honestly really good, yet I’ve only once ever received a score over 70%. I submit on Monday or Tuesday almost every time. I stopped bothering with the ones that don’t interest me as much because there is just no real incentive. I’m absolutely going to try testing this, as well.
I'm glad you're going to test this theory for yourself! That's really the whole point of this video. I just want to motivate people to try something different if submitting late hasn't been working for them. I've almost always placed in the 4K range, but after testing this myself and submitting even earlier, my rank average improved a significant amount... sure, it could all be random coincidence, but where's the harm in suggesting this idea to other players. I've resorted to backing out of the voting when I see 2 low effort submissions and save my voting for something I deem worthy. I don't get very many that ppl seem to put much work or thought into like you seem to in your videos. I don't want to waste votes on ppl that are just going for the 300 moonstones. When voting on Wed. night I see repeats of the same pic. I assume it's because it's early and there aren't that many submissions yet.
Heres how i THINK dreamsnaps works and your video only further supports my theory. Theres a que of pictures sitting in the interspace waiting for someone to load up and start voting. In the early days after reset the order and pairing is random, just to get some votes in. As pics start to get voted or not voted for, they get assigned a number/ranking. For example, lets say my snap gets voted for for 5 times in a row i get assigned rank 1, now there are other snaps out there at this point who have also been voted for everytime. So it makes sense to now pair both of those photos together to to see which wins, the one that does gets number 1 rank and the other gets rank 2. Now you have 2 photos deemed "good" that you can now use to pair up with other high ranked snaps. As more votes roll in and more snaps get voted for, the assigned ranks are constantly changing literally as we vote, which is why we get the results almost instantly, the ranks are assigned dynamically which is why theres no time needed for a final count. Where your experiemnt is concerned, imagine the que of snaps ready and waiting to be sent to people. As more people submit the que gets longer until everyone is in the que. THEN as voting starts the que gets more added onto the end as they try to pair up photos for rankings. So lets say i submit my snaps the minute reset hits, ill be one of the first in the que for voting, my snap gets one vote, it then has to be sent to the back of the voting que and paired up with maybe another that got voted for. If youre at the end of the submission que, youll be at the end of all the ques, especially the important ones where you get non randomly paired to change your ranking. IF this is how it works, it actually could be more beneficial for llayers to vote as much as they can as, thats works through the que of pics, however you cannot vote for yourself, so the more you vote, the more you move the que, the more likely your pic is sent to someone else. And finally, this could all be a load of crap from someone who thinks too deeply because of work boredom. 🤷🏻♀️ i like to think my excessive voting has a point, other than helping the community ofc. And in conclusion/TLDR- vote as much as you can and submit a placeholder to secure yourself an early spot in the que.
So I don't really think it matters when you submit the dreamsnap. The past few weeks I have literally submitted my dreamsnap the Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM right before the new dreamsnap challenge was uploaded. I've had a varied scoring between 900 moonstones, 1200 moonstones and to just this current one where I scored 4000 moonstones. So I believe it is possibly random. But I'm not testing this to the extent that Probably Senpai is. So we shall see.
i submit early to have something there but sometimes i replace the dream snap later on before refresh i did that for the bedroom i got 2500 moonstones rank 8716

I play on PS5 and always work on my DreamSnaps over the weekend (since I have to work during the week). Scores will vary, but I've earned majority 4000 Moonstone rewards for my entries. (I got rank 12 on the Trick or Treat category, which shocked me!) Also, I make sure to vote multiple times each time I play. I love seeing what people have done, and take inspiration for future Snaps! ETA: 1200 Moonstones today.
Same, PS5, usually consistently get 4K moonstones and most of the time I don't submit until Saturday, but Playstation only has around 10-12K players which would make me believe if this is a thing, it would not affect playstation players nearly as badly as PC/Xbox and Switch
The weekend is honestly one of the best times to submit. That's when I usually submitted my Dreamsnaps in the past. (With the exception of Fun with Fall and Earth and Air, which were later) I always get 4K moonstones when I submit anytime from Wednesday-Sunday. That said, my rank got even better when (consistently) when I started uploading my Dreamsnaps on Wednesday and Thursday. Like I stated in the video, my BEST rank ever was a Tuesday (late) submission. There are a lot of variables to consider. Though, evidence suggests earlier submissions tend to have better visibility when compared to late submissions.

I was just thinking that since the Playstation is a closed off world as far as dreamsnaps and such due to Sony being a pita about crossplay for this title that it would mean we have less quantity and possibly means the submissions would get more visibility no matter when you submit.

I only get 1200+ moonstones when I submit the day of or the day after the new dreamsnaps is announced. I waited and really worked on my submission a few weeks back and submitted the night before it was due and only got 300 moonstones. It was a really good one. also I’m on PS5 so we already have less voters
Hi I’m on ps5 I too have earned 4k everytime apart from 2 times which have been outfit challenges. Normally I submit with a few days spare but I have recently been submitting late (2-1 days or hours) and got my first “bad” result which knocked me off my 4k streak which was the pirate week and same for trick or treat but I have submitted decor challenges very late once literally at the last second and earned 36 and the wicked week late with a day or two to spare and got rank 16 so I’m not sure about the timing of it eventhough it makes sense I just think it’s random and based upon the challenge that week - if it’s simple and if it’s an outfit challenge I get my worst results One thing I’ve learnt is I always perform best in decor challenges maybe because you can add as many objects increasing your score and I do my worst at outfit challenges as they’re scored a little differently I’ve always got my best rank when the theme is hard or not clear or not simple for eg the NBC a lot of people in the voting that I saw did not put much effort in and seemed to struggle with theme so maybe less people participated that week as they didn’t know what to do or didn’t like the theme. Same with dreamers unite and wicked. The hardest challenges to perform well in are outfit challenges that are simple like the pirate theme because everyone’s looked so good and the theme is so simple there’s only so much you can do with the theme that everyone’s looked similar so maybe people got bored of seeing the same thing over and over again or because it’s an easier theme a lot of people participated that week so it’s a lot more competition
Very interesting theory, thank you! How do you think this correlates with "replacing" your submission during the week? Like, does it keep your initial "slot" or does only the last submission actually count? Cause I usually submit something on the first or second day the challenge is out - Then, if I have the time and/or get new ideas, I change it further into the week. So should I not be doing that? Is it better to submit my final submission earlier, or have I been protected from this phenomenon due to always submitting something earlier, even though it rarely stays as my final photo? (Hope that makes sense, English isn't my 1st language and I wasn't sure how to explain this lol)
This is all from my own personal experience. I've participated in every Dreamsnaps challenge, and I've received 4K on every submission with the exception of three later ones. Again, as stated in the video this is only one *small* variable that can impact score and visibility. The interesting thing for me was the previous 4 weeks and how consistent the score was around that same rank. There are still a lot of variables. So again, as stated in the video, submitting late DOES NOT mean you'll get a bad score.
