The people who Rams back in the day are not people who names Rams now it’s basically a luxury brand when it was Dodge Ram they were actually work trucks Stellantis decided to seperate Ram and that’s when the reliability started to decline the old rams are way more reliable for hauling than the newer ones the new ones are basically rolling hotel rooms that’s what you’re paying the extra 50 grand for

I have had dodges, fords and chevy/ gmc The 2 worst that I had was a ford 5.4 and a gmc they had it in the shop 185 days the first year I had it ( lemon law) If I was to go back to hauling cows and horses every week. I would not have any new truck. I would have a old one rebuild a square front chevy 90-96 Ford or 96- 99 dodge My family had better use from those models than anything else. I don't care about the fully loaded bs. I want it reliable, able to do its job. Its a truck not worried about the ride,computer crap.

I think the problem with trucks and people being so brand loyal (or just crazy) is that at 80k+ for a vehicle nobody is willing to say they were wrong in purchasing that brand. I personally don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The problem is we don't have enough competition in the truck market and they can charge whatever they want and people will pay. At the rate truck prices are going I personally will NEVER be able to afford a new truck.

$80,000 for a pickup . Never thought I would see a pickup cost as much or more then a Corvette . My 2011 Ram 2500 TD was about $42,000 , I just can't believe that the costs have gone up that much . My Ram had an issue with the check engine light repeatedly coming on . Dealership tried to blame me for using the wrong oil, wrong fuel , etc and acted like they had no idea what the issue was . I think I had it to the dealership 14 times for the issue. However after doing a search myself for the issue, it was a known issue with the government mandated environmental crap that was installed that was causing the issue . It cost me $900 to get that junk removed and guess what , no more issues with the check engine light . Also had the back window leak. Also had the drive shaft fall apart while driving . It must have been a defective part as I didn't even have 10k miles on it at the time . I have had '95,98, 2000, 2004, and 2011RAM pickups .

I don' t know what weight the trailers you are hauling for work weigh , but if you said you are hauling a skid steer, a tractor, or gravel , and your truck is not a hd version or a 1T , you didn’t buy enough truck . The rigidity of the frame , the Trans and running gear is ALL heavier and built to tow/ haul more . I have a loaded up 7,000# t/t ,I also load up the bed of the truck with dirt bikes, coolers, fuel, and generators to camp for a week, and I still bought a used , 1T diesel truck ,added overload springs , and was told when I bought the truck that a 3/4 ton truck was not going to do the job . If Dodge has the same trans or torque converters in their trucks for 3/4 & 1 tons maybe look to another brand or another weight capacity truck . I was told by many mechanics to ALWAYS go over what you think you might need for a Wright rating that way your truck doesn't struggle to do the work you bought it to do. My 2c.

1. You don't need to justify your purchase; it's your change, your choice. 2. You're not hurting / negatively impacting the truck market, the manufacturers are by cutting corners and insufficient quality control all in order to turn a bigger profit on a more cheaply produced product. 3. Toyotas ARE superior to RAM in EVERY shape and form and in EVERY CATEGORY. Alas, Toyota does not offer a heavy duty enough truck for you, unless you go to the commercial grade cabover category. Leave Toyota out of this, you bought a RAM that is garbage, criticise it.

You shouldn't and don't have to defend why you spent $83k on your truck. You earned that money, not these other yayhoo's, spend it how you want. I'm on my 6th Ram truck since 1983. I've had a Plymouth Grand Voyager mini van, and that, until my 2011 Ram, was the only one that I've had an issue with a transmission. It would jump back and forth between drive and overdrive real fast at 35 mph. I would press the O/D Override button so it would lock out overdrive. I finally blew the transaxle when I got stuck in the snow and was trying to get moving. I had a 1998 Ram that I had a problem with, but I wouldn't even call it a transmission problem. It was the torque converter that went out and locked in on the input shaft. My 2011 is my own fault. I've neglected the fluid. 267,000 miles, and I've never changed the fluid or filter. It's just now starting to sliiiide into 4th gear. Even still, 267,000 miles....I think that's been a pretty good life. This truck has had the living shit run out of it, with me being a volunteer firefighter, I'm mean it's been run HARD. 267,000 miles and still going. I've seen more Chevy's sitting on the road...newer model Chevy's mind you, at least 12 in the last year and a half or so, sitting on the side of the road, on fire. I just saw one two weeks ago, on the side of the road, during rush hour, just cooking away. Why would I want to have a truck prone to catching on fire. My son works for a towing company, and their new 5500 burned down, fire started under the hood, spread to the inside of the cab, and burned down sitting in their tow yard. They would park it in the middle of the yard, by itself, just in case, and sure enough it happened. My cousin had a Silverado 1500, burned to the ground. NO THANKS. And Ford's, with their reputation for launching spark plugs out of the heads. NOPE. I'll stick with my Rams.

I’m a huge Toyota fan boy and work for a Toyota dealer ship as a master tech. 1 Ram trucks aren’t bad, besides the v8 with the cam shafts but the Cummins diesels will outlast you, they are reliable as hell transmission wise on the rams, well they tend to be finicky but still durable ass trucks. 2. Toyota is a half right what you said, they are trying to compete with the new tundra, but a turbo v6 isn’t going to pull what a diesel can and even so I’ve said it before want reliable get a Toyota truck want something that can rip your house off the foundation get a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge, may not last as long but pulls a lot more then Toyota trucks. 3. Every truck is expensive and lowest I think is 40 grand for the base of the base, the highest Toyota tundra is capstone hybrid at over 100,000 grand, so I don’t know what people expect, 83 grand for a Cummins ram with nice options can’t blame you. People don’t think before they comment honestly

My 2021 Silverado 2500HDCrew cab with the Duramax Diesel, 10 speed transmission and the “LT” package was just over 60K. I bought the truck in January 2021. I live in southern Arizona and searched the Tucson and Phoenix dealerships for this truck and none were available because of the pandemic. I broadened my search to Albuquerque,NM and found this truck enroute to the dealership on a rail car from Flint , MI and bought it sight unseen. I did my research and this truck had everything I needed and wanted. It’s a great truck 2&1/2 years later and meets my towing needs and handles them with ease, getting 10 mpg towing and 19 mpg doing regular driving on average with close to 24 mpg on the highway not towing. About the pricing of trucks like mine from any manufacturer, I don’t complain. If y’all would stop and think what it takes to get the final product to the dealership from a lump of clay, all of the research, development and testing and what’s involved, maybe you’d be more acceptable to the pricing . If someone works hard all of their life and can afford one of these trucks more power to them. There are many people in Cochise County where I live with trucks similar to mine and many 3500’s too. Lots of farmers, contractors and people who have RV’s. Too many of y’all heard stories from your friends who have a 2nd cousin who has a friend who knows a guy who said these trucks are overpriced pieces of junk and take that as gospel truth. Stop being keyboard warriors and do your own research. Peace. I’m out🇺🇸

Well said. I'm old and got my first car in 1968. I'm an expert at replacing and setting points, rebuilding carburators and setting chokes. Plus they were simple and rusted out early. Had Ford trucks, then got tired of getting stuff taken care of under warranty, so I went to Chevy. Had 5 new GM trucks in a row, and then got tired of my Duramax issues and stopped by my RAM dealer and this was in 2014. Traded my 2500 GMC with Duramax in on my RAM 2500 with Cummins and got the Max Care warranty for 6 years. When that ended, RAM offered to extend it for another 3 years at 31 bucks a month. That's a steal. So I still have my 2014 RAM Laramie with Cummins under warranty. Looks great, no issues other then recalls which RAM took care off. Very little rust on the frame. GM has the worst rustproofing. Seriously I'm a RAM fan now. The Cummins is a strong motor that gets great mileage. I love how the rear seat folds up and you can put the folding floor out for the dogs. Plus the storage bins on the floor that are used for storage and ice coolers. Great trucks. FCA did what they said they would do when forming the RAM division. They wanted to up the truck game and compete with FORD and Chevy. They did a great job. BTW, RAM's paint is way better then GM's.

Purchased my first new Dodge 1500 4x4 truck in 1988. Good truck, used hard for 12 years. Eventually had to replace the transmission. I should have serviced that transmission every 35k miles instead of 50k because I towed so much. Purchased a new Dodge 1500 4x4 in 2000. Still driving it. Good truck. I own a 2021 Ram 2500 4x4 now. It costed too much. I wanted a diesel but I couldn't go the extra $9k so I got a gas burner. I think our vehicles ALL cost too much these days but I hate walking and I cant drag a trailer by hand. You know that those people making the crazy comments are likely trying to make themselves feel better about their own bad decisions in life.

I paid $103k for my custom built 2022 Ram 3500 Mega cab 4x4 6.7l 4x4 Laramie Night Edition to tow my 13k lb RV, following a nasty car accident that destroyed my daily driver, necessitating a replacement. It's what it cost and given what my car accident did to my ankle and what I received in compensation; wanted something with all the safety features and comfort levels. I got mine at 36 mo/0% interest financing and don't regret it. I have also owned Dodge, Ram, Chevy, Ford, VW, Nissan, Toyota, and Porsche products since my youth and found that the Chrysler offerings were on par, if not a little better than the others. I did conduct a lot of research during my recovery and concluded that the Duramax and Power Stoke engines were more complicated and prone to their own mechanical issues and that the Cummins is smoother and can be serviced without removing it, or the truck cab, for most repairs. Not only, but I still have a 2003 Ram 3500 Hemi loaded dually and it is one of the best trucks I have ever owned...so I'm with you.

I've often talked about the Mopar Quality Lottery; get a good one and they can be as good or better than anything, but they've always had more than their fair share of lemons going back decades until just after WPC died. And it's almost completely random, not like Ford where if you get a truck or a small car engineered by Mazda or Euro-Ford you're likely safe (PowerShift transmission being the exception that proves that rule).

I have owned a lot of trucks over the years. The one Dodge Ram I owned had the camshaft fail at about 75K miles. Had a 100K drivetrain warranty but come to find out the only way they honor that is if you get it inspected and documented by them every year. I called BS on them and they eventually fixed it under warranty (about $3500 repair). Decided to stick with Ford after that.

I had over 230,000 miles on the 05 and had only installed a water pump, radiator and a cooling fan all for less than a thousand dollars. Battery lasted eleven years. As for manufacturing, for 24 years I’ve worked in the automotive manufacturing industry, guess what most of my years work was there? Rework. Lol. Yes, I fixed broken cars in the plant. Some missing parts due to supplier issues, some from associates errors, equipment errors and so on. Glad to see this updated video and you’re having gotten it fixed. All cars and trucks today are WAY overpriced, and have been for many years. It's all due to demand and the willingness of the American consumer to pay the high price. Quality on all vehicles is lower than it should be, and that is also the fault of the consumer's willingness to keep buying when quality is subpar. Great Vid..... I'm a mechanic by trade, 35 yrs plus in both diesel and gas. We have a large fleet for all brands and after working and seeing 250k plus and some in the low 300k mileage that these Rams have been putting out with very little issues is what made me go with the 2022 Ram 2500 with a 6.7 Cummins. I was looking for a truck to pull a 8k travel trailer, I looked at so many and the Ram was the winner. I'm 6 feet tall @ 250 and the room the Ram both front and rear was another selling point. In todays market there are no cheap priced trucks, used with few miles were 60k. My Ram @ Tradesman was 66k total with few upgrades, I get 20-21 MPG unloaded and with trailer roughly 9 to 10 MPG and this Ram pulls it with ease. GMC when I was looking was starting at 93k sticker price. Glad I got my Ram, I don't sweat the payments and we're happy, with 6 years left for retirement, I need to have a truck that will last and do what I need. Wife has her Tacoma & I got my Ram.

I have a recent acquisition of a used 2022 Ram Power Wagon. I wanted a large truck to carry all my gear, and am looking forward to buying a Roamer 1 off-road trailer in the next year or two. I got an Extended Warranty from Endurance, and still have only 24,000 miles on the factory warranty. The only problem is the rear window doesn’t work, which will be replaced under the factory coverage. It sucks gas bad, but I expected that. It was only $57k used. I am generally a Toyota guy, but the Power Wagon is better off-road, and the Toyota has a turbo 6 instead of a Hemi 6.4 V8 under the hood. I am very happy with my truck so far. The trans is an 8speed which is smooth as silk. Also, my local Ram dealer has a reputation for good service.

So truck manufacturers stopped offering the manual transmissions at the time their engines with upgraded HP/Torque exceeded the then existing manual transmissions capabilities. They developed upgraded auto transmissions but not manual transmissions. Instead they elected to lower the costs of their assembly lines and production costs. The customer had to eat the additional cost of the auto transmissions, just like with everything else. I hopelessly searched for a 2003 1/2 ton Silverado with a manual so I still have my 98' 1/2 V8/manual because the manuals went away with the Vortec engines.

I've always been a Dodge guy, owned a Dodge 1500 when the update came out in 2001, own an SRT4 that I bought new in 2005. Grew up on FWD turbo dodges so it was a no brainer. My 2014 Ram Ecodiesel crewcab got destroyed by a drunk driver a week ago, very depressing. That truck was loaded, and I got a great deal on it, 30k miles and I paid just over 30k for it in 2016 (listed new for 62k in 2014). Fast forward to now, you can't even find a 2014 with those options for THAT price, god help me when I look at the 2021-2022 ecodiesels. Every time I have to use a different vehicle, and I'd go back to my Ram, I was reminded why they are basically the Cadillac of trucks. No one even comes close to that interior. I will replace the Dodge Ram (ALWAYS Dodge Ram, don't care what the company tries to say) and I'm probably stuck going for a 60k model to replace my 2014 with basically the same options. I would NEVER EVER buy a Toyota, they simply aren't built as strong. I'm not talking about the motor, I'm not talking about rust, I'm talking about the fact that if you actually do WORK with your vehicle, you will rip a Toyota to pieces, seen it time and time again, especially their full size trucks. You live in the city, you want a truck that will get 300k miles on a gas engine... good for you, that Toyota will work for you, but if you start loading concrete bags in the bed, or doing any towing, that body is going to fall to pieces.

Previous owner of a 2015 ram 2500 diesel with a G 56 manual I absolutely loved that truck. Would do anything you asked of it. You had to constantly remind yourself that you were towing because you would forget. Lots of attitude. Big. Bought it in the fall of 2015 and sold it in November 2021 Within two weeks of ownership, I had to get the master cylinder to the clutch replaced because it had this horrible squeak. Manufacturing defect. While I owned it I think I had 14 recalls. In addition to the recalls under warranty, I had to get a cab light fixed that was leaking, the turbo fixed, because the turbo actuator failed. I had to replace as the truck just went out of warranty, the head unit. And I think the alternator was getting ready to fail. It seems like everything that you would read on the Cummings forum that can go wrong will go wrong. Finally, I ran across the thread about the grid heater, not that would fall off into the cylinder and ruin the engine. That was enough for me. It was my first “American” branded vehicle ever bought. Yes, I recognized. It was assembled in Mexico. I did buy a light duty tundra. The last model year that had the V8 I am back down on my heavy, towing and a light duty truck just seem to fit my lifestyle. It was a glorious truck. I still kind of miss it. But if they can just make it better. More reliable. To where you have more confidence I would still have it but driving around with a $4000 repair bill hanging over your head at any moment, it’s just not satisfying

One of the major reason why modern-day vehicles can get much better MPG, reliability and longevity is because of the "computers controlled garbage", that constantly monitors and changes parameters so the engine is always running optimally. The seals and tolerances are also much better. The old carbureted engines burned more fuel with less power, weren't as reliable and were pretty much worn out at 100,000 miles. Sure, they were simpler and it's a good thing, because they broke down more often. My 20 year old Ram has never left me on the side of the road and still drives almost like new and the few small problems I had, I was able to fix myself.
@rooh5825
@rooh5825 Год назад
It isn't just that. Fuel quality is better, oils are MUCH better. Belts are much better. Head gaskets are INSANELY better. The single layer metal head gaskets were a disaster for an iron block motor with an aluminum head. The composite gaskets available now are a godsend for rebuilding a mid 90's car or truck, along with timing belts/chains that last so much longer than the original ones do. One thing though about the oil, really good synthetic oil isn't always the best thing for an older vehicle, because while the oil viscosity etc is a lot better, non-synthetic oil will soak into the seals over the life of a vehicle, and the full synthetic tends to dry those seals out. A lot of people don't realize this, they'll go with "Jimmy said this new oil will make my car run so much better" and suddenly their 1996 Buick LeSabre has a never-seen-before oil leak.

I am glad you like your truck. I love my 2011 F250 with the 6.7L diesel. It was my daily driver for almost 10 years and now only does "truck things" like towing my 5th wheel. I get/got many of the same comments you mentioned. It was too big, too expensive, a Toyota would be better, etc. I needed tow capacity just like you. There are times when I would like to buy a new, or newer, truck, particularly a DRW, but availability is horrible. I recently started getting a check engine light for intermittent low EGR flow. Probably a $800 or $900 repair. Still a lot cheaper than a new truck. And did I mention that I love my truck? I like it as much as when I purchased it in 2011. I don't feel a need to justify my truck, and if I bought a brand new one tomorrow for $80k (I did an online build exercise a few days ago) I wouldn't need to justify it either!

I'm a Ford person and loved my last F350. I ran quieter than a gas car. I got about 22mpg on the hwy at 80mph. I like the color that you chose. Nobody can argue with your experiences. Thank you for giving a thoughtful and comprehensive response to the feedback.
