58% abv!!! Thats liquid gold. Getting a candidate for rum of the year this early in 2024 is incredible, goes to show the rum industry are not slacking off.
I spoke with you briefly on IG about this magnificent rum! Also, again a big thanks for you bringing this release to my attention. I've been a long-time El Dorado fan, and this is like the holy grail / white whale of Demerara / Diamond Distillers. Much like many folks have said in the comments-- it's still impossible to find all these months later on the west coast, but maybe by end of summer a few bottles will float around at LEAST in Rum bars in SF, or at most in a few specialty liquor stores out here. I got my hands on the one bottle so far, but stashed it away for permanent-collection keeping (until I can find another bottle :P) Cheers, Arminder!
Hey there! yeah its pretty frustrating that it hasn't yet made it way to the west coast. Clearly there's demand for it. I'm definitely scooping up another bottle when its available here.
I am a huge fan if El Dorado's. It started in 2018 when i worked at a Vodka and Gin distillery. Our front of house manager use to work in the british Virgin islands and he absolutely loved rum his favourites were Plantations and El Dorado. Once we got to cracking open a bottle of El Dorado i was in love. The 12 year was good, the 21 was smooth but still lacking character, but the 15 year sang and i get that bottle once or twice a year and have since tried and collected my own mini El Dorado collection (port mourant , Versailles, enmore, 1981 - 25 year, and i plan of trying and collecting more of these bottles in the future). I am extremely excited to try the High Ester rums from El Dorado and hope this brand gets recognized for its incredible work.
Yeah the 15 is such a good rum! Maybe favorite of the core line up. I’m hoping the High Ester Blend starts popping up in more places so folks can get their hands on it. Since you’re a fan of the brand I think you’ll really like the rum
I don't expect to ever see this bottle on any store shelf near me, and anyway I would probably pass at $130. I could and would buy 2 HLCFs for that. Also, if DDL can't be bothered to give any age information on the bottle, I don't know why we try to fill in that blank for them. Glad you enjoy it though.
This sounds like it would be my jam! The specs liquor store I go to in Texas did a 12 year old barrel pick of el dorado that is amazing. I am all for the high proof el dorados!
I do enjoy the El Dorado 12 and 15. Both are automatic restocks for me but I don't find the 21 is enough of a step up to justify the price. I'd love to get my hands on a bottle of this! Thanks as always for the content.
Well, you basically spoke this into existence. I remember a video not too long ago where you asked El Dorado to release a bottle that was a higher ABV, and now here we are. I remember you also threw out a question to Plantation about when they would change their name, and now they have. There are a few other things on this planet that I would like you to adjust please 😂😂.
El dorado seems slow to update their website. The rum touched down in certain east coast markets last week. Should be making its way through the country in the coming weeks
I was able to taste it recently at a rum fest in Brussels. It's an absolutely great rum but the rumored price here is +€200. Since we have quite an abundant choice of rum and IB's here, it's a bonkers proposition.
Will definitely keep my eyes open for a bottle! Probably when I travel out of PA, though I want to say I can find the ED 12s here at the state store so, maybe?
Damn I want that bottle big time! Road trip to Florida. Great cork pop. I do love Eldorado, it was my gateway rum. I got the 12year for my birthday years ago. Unfortunately at that price point and my location, I doubt I’ll be able to get it.
I have so many opened and unopened el dorado bottles its not even funny. I LOVE them all. So let's just say that I need this bottle. Will be actively searching for it!
Nice! If you can indulge me, whats your favorite diamond distillery expression to date and how does this compare. I have a nice hamilton port mourant and honestly the el dorado cask strength bottlings are pretty good too, maybe not great though ..
There was a really old SWR mark released maybe 5 or 6 years ago from El Dorado that was amazing and maybe my fav. Different though from this new release. That one was aged a very long time and I dont think it had the acidity that this one does. That being said they all still very much felt like Demerara rums. I haven't had a chance to try that Hamilton PM release yet. I do have the el dorado cask strength releases and enjoy those very much
Its popped up in a few places on the east coast, I imagine in the next month should make its way to the west cost. Given the limited nature of this, I don't think Total Wine will get it.
