Idk I haven't seen the list yet but I'm willing to bet they didn't put a Taylor Swift album at 18. I don't even dislike Taylor really but no chance 1989 is a top 20 album of all time. So by that metric it's better than the Apple list.
He’s always been a hater. I pity the fool who can’t appreciate the subtleties of The Dan. It confuses me, I would have figured he’d like the sardonic and well produced shit. But maybe it’s just too overhyped for cool Anthony.
Yeah just checked it out and might honestly be worse then apples top 100 just because of how pretentious it is or how pretentious the people think they are for putting a bunch of classic records some of which deserve it some of which very much don’t, lord melodrama at 62 17 spots above televisions marquee moon? Weepers blue album 10 spots above hounds of love? Why do we need 4 Kanye records, 5 Beatles, 4 pink Floyd and so on without any Nina Simone, frank zappa and the mothers of invention, joy division etc… this list also does not fix any of the obvious issues with the Apple list, metal is still incredibly under represented, same with prog rock (there is more prog out there then king crimson and pink Floyd), same with jazz (more great jazz out there then davis and mingus), no synth pop outside of purple rain (meaning no tears for fears, depeche mode, new order or yellow magic orchestra) and no post punk representation outside of maybe the cure. There’s so much missing it’s insane, you’re telling me channel orange deserves to be on the list (10 spots above never mind) and it master of puppets or any sabbath record. Sure…
1. White 2. Children 3. Base music opinions on what other people think 4. No actual sense of culture, just white “music nerd” as their sole connection to the world of music The internet was a mistake.
i get that f#a# is lower than lysflath but those albums are definitely a lot closer in quality than fantano implies. hoenstly somedays its even better to me
Ok NO MORE STEELY DAN DISRESPECT I CANNOT TAKE THIS ANYMORE AHHHHHHHHHHH STOP IT. It really hurts the soul. Btw, comparing Steely Dan (jazz influenced pop rock with perfectionist production and precise performances) to Frank Zappa and Mahavishnu (NOT that) is like comparing apples to something like bacon, they’re really different.
Okay i understood when you said you preferred Skinny Fists but “vastly inferior”? That’s actually crazy. F# is better than every single album they’ve put out after skinny fists. It’s a classic and frankly was MORE boundary pushing and experimental than skinny fists. Dont disrespect F#A#♾️ like that.
Fantano exhibits pure musical yin and yang, a perfect balance between based opinions and the most god awful takes humanity has ever heard. The 10/10 for “brat” has been perfectly negated by calling “F# A#” ‘vastly inferior’. This, my fellow viewers, is Fantanoism at its core - true tranquility.
I feel like there's some mass psychosis going on with brat, there's no way I'm hearing a 10 from it on any level, even after multiple listens. The fanbase will eat me alive if I mention it's a 6 at best. 😭
Cmon IGOR been out for enough while for everyone to acknowledge it's a near perfect or perfect album. Although 10 MAY be too high but like top 50, top 40 or 30 would have been safer but I'm not mad if it's at 10 tbh
I honestly feel like his hate for Steely Dan is personal, For someone whos life is dissecting and appreciating music, There's no way Fantano really believes Steely Dan is trash, Like its downright ignorant and disrespectful to pretend there isn't anything quality to Steely Dan's music.
Nah bro All things must pass has everything on it songs like my sweet lord, what is life, isnt it a pity, beware of darkness and so on and its a triple album, cant do any better than that. But these are great albums of course.
@@emre_7575 Yeah, I mean, it is preference. But, I think there are so many songs on ATMP, and some of them just do not stand out at all to me. Whereas on my personal favourite, RAM, each song stands out. I Think I was being harsh with Imagine, I think I have a similar issue with that one, and there is one song that I am not too keen on in Band On the Run, so I would put ATMP second on my list, personally.
@@autistickakarot That‘s understandable, Ram is a great record and just like you it‘s my personal preference because even the „filler“ songs on ATMP grew up on me so it‘s a perfect album for me. On top of that it‘s a triple album which is always a great pleasure for me to listen to through from start to finish. But putting RAM on 1 is a valid choice of course.
@@emre_7575 Yeah, to be fair, every time I revist ATMP, there is always a song I may have overlooked previously, and find myself enjoying more than I thought I would, it is a great record.
As a big Macca fan, Off the Ground, Flaming Pie, McCartney, RAM, Chaos & Creation, Venus & Mars, and even New are all masterpieces in my book. Love George's ATMP too though.
The list they made is based off of the number of people who had the album in a playlist. So naturally this is going to be skewed based off of what company licensing allowed. But it also means albums that set a standard for the future of music are NOT going to be represented in it. Of course Radio Head is going to be most of the top 10, and Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew is not on the list at all. Of course bands that were never signed to a label that created albums that changed metal or country are never going to appear on these lists. This isn’t the “top 100” it’s just “most liked music on Spotify this year”. It’s not about the music. Or representing artists like Jimi Hendrix who forever changed how we record rock and pop modernly. It’s not gonna be a hidden white label album made by someone trying to leave their label or a hidden MF Doom poetry feature. The only qualifier was it had to be on the most people’s lists. So of course modern music is most represented. I have CD’s and Vinyls of early pressed Jazz, and early idm artists who changed the music scene in their country. Those will never be on those lists but should be. I found many well made albums on cassette, or vinyl, that are never having their rights to digital. Or small bands that made something that was beyond what I have ever heard before but they broke up after one EP. DJ’s who died in a train accident going to a record label and never getting a proper release. These people deserve top 100 recognition. But too many people make it just a popularity contest,
Aja, royal scam, can't buy a thrill three of the GOATed albums with so much skilled session players and jazz musicians. I think fantano should stop calling him music enthusiast if he doesn't like steely dan.
"In 2000 I was up for album of the year and it was like "the Winner is stealy dan " . Okay I know who stealy dan is from back in the days. But more impact than the Marshall Mathers LP ? Yeah don't ever ask me to come to the grammys again " He had a point 😂
@@marcusmclean132 who else but egoistic Eminem. Those mumbled rappers will never touch the greatness of skilled jazz players in steely dan. Hip-hop has the worst community in music.
They use algorithms based off of data of what a general consensus like what The Rolling Stones mag uses for their best lists. Probably for what you do to create your own lists. Keep in mind as time passes an audience who was around for said thing aren’t whatever younger audiences are into now. There are songs from the 1890’s and 1920’s that would make WAP blush but they’re not on any of these lists. 😂
This dude literally knows people hate him cause he hates music everyone else likes so he continues. This dude will forever run free in my head knowing he said one of the best songs of 2018 was trash 🤣💀
Spoilers: There's only one album from a black woman in this list and that's Lauryn Hill. No Aretha Franklin No Ella Fitzgerald No Nina Simone No Sade No Alice Coltrane No Janet Jackson Artists that have been culturally important like Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige or SZA are completely absent on this list. There are albums as recent as Ants From Up There on the Top 20, yet they couldn't place Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (one of the most acclaimed rap albums of the 2020s) on the top 100. That's without mentioning a complete lack of country and world music and an overrepresentation of white indie rock. Yeah, this list is dogshit lmfao.
I mean it's not too surprising for white indie rock to be the favorite of a bunch of pretentious white music nerds, unless their goal was to have a lot of different global, cultural, and genre representation in which case yeah the list is terrible lol
You want quotas on a best album list? There's four black artists on the top ten. There's around 25-30% black artists on the top 50. Relax. Minorities are already overrepresented on the top 50 if you consider this is mostly an English-speaking ranking.
@@gasparm.2711 Black artists is not the same as black WOMEN artists. Thinking that only ONE black woman has made an album worthy enough being in the top 100 albums of all time is just silly and incredibly ignorant. Also, overrepresentation of minorities in the top 50? That top 50 literally consists of mostly either white indie rock that is only really relevant on RYM, AOTY and /mu/ or the same white classic rock picks everyone and their mamas go to when talking about the greatest albums of all time (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Beach Boys). If you're referring to the fact that there's a lot of Hip Hop on the top 50 (because that's the genre where most black artists are from on that list, Jazz be damned), well duh. Rap music has been one of the most relevant genres in anglophone countries since at least the late 80s. Is not overrepresentation, its proportional to its cultural impact. That doesn't contradict the fact that a lot of black women that have also had a significant cultural impact, are completely absent on this list. You helped making that list, didn't you?
Also, I made the count and 32 albums out of the top 50 are either white indie rock or white classic rock, and that's without even counting other white artists like Björk and Daft Punk. How in the world can you say there is overrepresentation of minorities on the top 50 with data like that? Wtf
Ahhhh I’m like a huuuge fan of Mac miller and idk if I’d put circles there instead of his other stuff. Artistically speaking, I guess circles is tied with swimming. But personally I’d say GO:OD am is probably his best album.
Might be a hot take but I prefer f#a#infinity to lift your skinny fists. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, since it’s the first post rock album I ever listened to
