The lack of Guthrie is concerning

No Buckethead, no Allan Holdsworth, no Paul Gilbert, no Tommy Emmanuel, no Paco de Lucia... Rolling Stone never ceases to fail. It's been decades since they went downhill and decided to remain at the bottom.

Steve Morse, Neal Schon, Robin Trower, John Petrucci, Skunk Baxter, Charo, Roy Clark, Yngwei, Glenn Campbell, Dave Mustaine, Gary Moore… missing 1 is a crime.. missing all of them… good grief

Not putting Gary Moore on this list is criminal. Deserved to be at least in the Top 50

SRV, Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Clapton, and Gilmour don't break 20. That's all that needs to be said about this list.

Slash got me into playing guitar. His sound is so iconic that you can pick out his solo in a song without knowing he was part of the song. One of the most iconic of all time.

Yngwie, Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, George Lynch, John Norum, Dave Mustaine not on the list? This is crazy

Where is Marty Friedman, Gary Moore, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie, Jason Becker, Guthrie Govan, Allan Holdsworth and Vinnie Moore? All of those players have had a huge influence on the way a lot of people play guitar.

Eric Johnson at 205 is ridiculous. Easily top 50 no question.

I think you could open a whole top 100 list just filled with „great guitarists Rolling Stone missed“ (E.g. Guthrie Govan, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Luiz Bonfa, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Mark Lettieri, Cory Wong… and soooo on)

It's crazy that nobody here mentions a word about Paul Gilbert. He's absolutely underrated.

I feel you on Chuck Berry. They had a show on MTV back in the day called “The List” and they did a top ten guitarist episode. I boycotted MTV for 3 years because they didn’t even mention Chuck Berry. I don’t think he is top ten either but I would put him in the top 20 for influence. Also he did write the most iconic rock and roll intro of the 20th century.

I’m not even the biggest Megadeth fan but Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine, and maybe even Chris Poland should all be on this list

I haven't picked up a Rolling Stone's magazine since I was a teen in the 80's. This list further confirms that I haven't missed much.

Moving knopfler from top 30 to 96 made me so sad. Hearing him on alchemy live one random day in high school changed my life. He made me love rock and roll and I’m sure many people feel the same. There’s no one else who could do it like him. His sound is instantly recognizable

lack of synyster gates is wild to me. such an amazingly talented lead player. his work never fails to amaze me. he should at least break top 100 if not, top 50.

I am pretty sure that John Petrucci is not on the list. That is a travesty. he not only is one of the most influential shredders out there in one of the greatest progressive metal bands ever, he also plays with such feel and emotion as well.

Brian Setzer is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen play. How is he not on this list.

I grew up remembering music from the 70s and 80s being i finished high school in the early 80s. I have saw more than a few guitarist that when watching them perform you can see that they always give it everything that they had . Please let give the recognition to the ones that definitely deserve it.

I am always shocked that Roy Clark is never on any of these lists. Probably because he was mainly classical and country, but he was undeniably one of the best.

Omitting Glenn Campbell and Tommy Emmanuel is a HUGE blunder. Also John Petrucci and Adam Jones definitely deserved to be on the list, there's NO WAY 250 guitar players are better than these guys.

First time I've seen this channel. Good video. No matter who makes a list like this everybody else is going to be disagree with some rankings and snubs. I thought they did a good job of including some names that aren't usually on these lists and a better than usual for them list of looking beyond just Boomer icons. If you are not familiar with Poison Ivy Rorschach and you are a Jack White fan I definitely recommend digging into her band The Cramps. They are a major, major influence on the kind of Garage/Rockabilly music The White Stripes came out of and still one of the very best to do it. They also have a lot of songs inspired by Horror movies so they're perfect for this time of year.

Glad to see all is well Tyler and your bCk to full health. One thing though in regard to slide players. I agree that both Trucks and Allman are world class players and have done some really fine work. But and here it is, are you familiar with Johnny Winter at all, if not, if you can find the time you may want to! There's a performance he did on David Letterman of a song he wrote called Rock and Roll. His playing will send shivers up your proverbial spine, he absolutely flies through some death defying chilly sequences, he changes the time, the key all in service to the song, and careens through it never losing control. Seriously he'll make your jaw drop. Cheers Tyler all the best. Btw I love the album, excellent work.

Neal Schon of Journey was overlooked also.

Andrés Segovia did more than anybody for the guitar. He literally reinvented singlehandlely the instrument, took it from just a flamenco bar instrument and allowed it to be taken seriously and played in concerts. Withouth him none on this list would have existed.

Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Tosin Abasi, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Joe Satriani - there are more obviously but these guitar players alone blow every single one of these “Top 250” out of the water. Without question. No contest.

My favorite part of this list (because I stopped reading there) was Judas Priest's guitartists, the guys who played the solos for Painkiller, Ram it Down, Beyond the Realms of Death, The Sentinel, you know the usual, and then the next one on the list above them is Lzzy Hale, a chick who probably can play Am F C and G and that's it.

I just love the way Mark Knopfler plays. Best in the world or not, 96th best or 960th I couldn't care less. He changed my life. Can't wait for his upcoming album at 74 yo and still playing beautifully. 🎸🎸🎸

Any list that doesn't have Eric, Albert, and Stevie Ray in the Top 10 can't be taken seriously!

Johnny Marr, Robert Smith, Dave Navarro, Daniel Ash should be on this list, all for their very distinctive innovative stylings.

Love to know their criteria. Perhaps it was completely random so that it would generate discussion (rage?), but have just enough legit rankings so that people will read it.

No Micheal Hedges? You've got to be freaking kidding me! I was fortunate to have seen him play a couple times before his untimely death in 1997. One of the most innovative and unique players - ever! In my opinion, he should easily be in the top 20. Psst!

Rolling Stone obviously prioritized representation with this list. Fittingly, guitarists with no business being on this list are well represented.

Everyone plays Chuck berry licks. The term Boomer Bend comes to mind. But also that blues shuffle... I wouldn't put him at number 2, but I can see how you could make a case for that. He would be in my top 15

I think it's missing the following guitarists: Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt (probably as a combo), Mdou Moctar, Wilko Johnson, Paco de Lucía, Woody Guthrie, John Squire (Probably in the top 20 if not even higher) Roy Clark and maybe Johnny Marr.

I remember when Rolling Stone was legit publication. As a kid in the 80's, we didnt know any better. I honestly cant even believe it is still around and has any circulation/momentum.

Terry Kath, Roy Clark/Glen Campbell, Joe Pass, Joe Bonamassa, Samantha Fish, Don Felder, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Ace Frehley, Gary Moore, Dave Grohl, Dave Matthews... That's with like 30 seconds of thought. I will almost certainly come up with even stronger contenders with time.

Hmm...seeing all these great guitarists who, in many cases, had guitars as iconic as those playing them - if you were to make a list of the top 20 guitars of all time? What would make your list? Just as an example, BB King's Lucille (Gibson ES-355) comes to mind.

Martin Barre is easily a top 20 player. Underrated and avoids the limelight, so it isn’t a surprise.

Gary Moore? Les Paul? Richie Sambora? Don Felder? Joe Walsh? Jason Becker? Should all be on list. Imo Les Paul is number 2, but I think top 10 is fair and most would agree top 25. Dude innovated, inspired, played AMAZINGLY. Not only was he lightning quick and more perfect every time, he invented multitrack recording, invited the loop pedal, made a recording studio in his house so good that every top musician in the world wanted to use is, invented backing tracks, and ofc invented that guitar that a lot of people like. A lot of top musicians have signature guitars. Nobody has a signature guitar that’s so popular that other musicians use yours to make their signature guitar. People like Eric Johnson, Clapton, Van Halen, BB King to mention a few would be ecstatic and like a fan when he invited them on stage to play with him. Outside of his skills this credits a high spot imo

Not to mention all great session player's who actually recorded the hit songs we all listen to on the album

The lack of Fripp is crazy. The guy is an instrumental tour de force and has been the brains behind King Crimson for over 50 years. He even has an entire guitar style and group of guitarists (League of Crafty Guitarists) based on his style and taught by him.
