Great review and really enjoy your enthusiasm,i have the stihl rm655rs here in Ireland and its a brilliant mower,its so sturdy and collects very well in the wet,the rear roller gives a lovely stripe too,stihl make quality machines 👍
Nice looking machine overall, but since I have two Honda mowers, one the commercial HRC216HXC and the other the premium HRX217HYC, I have what I need for at least a decade. Also, a friendly safety reminder, it's good practice to pull the spark plug boot and move it away from the plug if you are going to work on the bottom to prevent it from accidentally starting up. The single handlebar was a design Honda played with on one of its smallest mowers, the HR17. The Stihl's adjustable height is a nice feature, but I should ask, is it a pretty strong and stable design? I ask because sometimes that's the weak point on mowers. Another weak point I can see on these machines is the plastic catcher. Overall, it's a nice design as emptying it looks incredibly easy but plastic in Canada after a number of seasons (hot-cold-hot-cold) I can see it getting brittle and shattering after a while. I am glad that Stihl went with a Kohler engine on these machines, never really cared for Briggs.
@@paulovaz1174 Single handlebar is great. Honda used to make a mower with a mono-bar. It is made for European and Brittish lawns where they bag it all.
@@OliverDiGeronimo009 I was going to buy the YS model for hydrostatic transmission( had it on my Honda hrx217) but it does not free wheel when pulling mower backwards- salesman said the hydro transmission is designed that way. The Honda has some minor resistance but the Stihl has a lot of resistance- not sure if that could be adjusted. Honestly the sales people at the various dealers are not yet familiar with these models. the Ys model is very smooth and glides backwards effortlessly.
I just got mine a few weeks ago! I love it so far, except for one thing. The mulch plug doesnt seem to seal well? I always have rotten grass sitting on top of the plug. Have you had any issues?
Looks great! Did ur dad upgrade his Titan to the newer Silverado? That mower has so many cool, unusual, and convenient features. Non-adjustable throttle? Great review/video Oliver as always!
You are correct, it has no throttle control, the lever you see is for travel speed. I looked at one of these at a dealer and was thinking of getting rid of my HRX217 Honda and getting one of these, there are multiple things I didn't like about the Stihl. First being the plastic catcher (looks like something that will break easily, Honda has a metal frame with a time tested and proven woven cloth bag). Why no throttle? I expect to see preset wide open governors on low end equipment, not on $1000 mowers. Honda has a hydrostatic transmission, This has VARIO DRIVE? what is it? Control bails (engine and blade controls) are awkward to use. Mulch plug (Honda has clip director so no need for a separate chunk of plastic to convert to mulch mode). The Kohler engine is far from the same quality as the Honda or Kawasaki engine. Things I do like about the Stihl, Aluminum deck (though I do wonder how long the paint will stay on that as aluminum likes to corrode and hates to be painted. The Honda has a "Nexite" plastic deck of which I have cracked one already and their lifetime warranty is a joke). The ease of changing cutting height with one control (Honda is independent on each wheel). I have a pretty much new Honda (16 hours on it) that I will be keeping for the unforeseeable future. but sadly Honda no longer manufactures walk behind mowers. So if I were forced to buy a new mower in lets say the next 5 years, I have no idea what it would be.
How about them tires on that Honda I wear out three sets before I wear out one set on a sears craftsman mower. Plus Hondas auto choke sucks it'll run great then all of a sudden you can't start it you got a pull it 500 times and it spits spurts smokes and you finally get it restarted that has happened to three of my Hondas I do not own another Honda
@@OliverDiGeronimo009 Better? I professionally mow and my clients rave over my Toro. Also I hate single speed drive systems still using a pull lever. Not saying your mower isn't good for you but I have been mowing for decades. Unless you plan to bag or mulch all the time you do not want to try discharging from the rear. I do like the handlebar on the stihl for removal of the grass catcher for sure but I have no issues taking the bag off my Toro which holds way more clipping. Estimate how many stops you'll have to make if the grass is tall, thick and wet. Wouldn't trade my Toro 30 inch for anything. I have the 21199 model that is a huge improvement over previous Toro 30 inches with an HD transmission. The only changes I made when I bought mine was putting commercial pulleys on. Other than changing the belt after 3 yrs I have not had any issues with the mower and the cuts still look clean with no stragglers.
@@mrgreen2769a 30 inch commercial toro mower isn’t 2000$ more like 3k+, so idk why u comparing them why waste 3k on a push mower when u can get a stand on 34inch and imo 21inch toro commercial is all u need for small yards, anything big just use the stand on
@@OliverDiGeronimo009 I believe the stihl mowers have the lowest maximum height of any mower in America. Some grasses are healthiest when cut to3.5, 4 or 4.5 inches, and the stihl will not allow you to cut any higher than 3 inches.
My neighbor has one. Its looks cool the deck is made of aluminum but For 1000 dollar they should put honda or Kawasaki engine instead of kohler that made in chayna 😅

That bagger system will need replaced once a year lol. Plastic.. should have made it a bit more durable flexible hard rubber or something. My guys would demolish this mower. My commercials can’t stand their bearings
The box has held up well. This is a very popular mower in Europe , the UK, and Ireland among commercial users. I always take care of and respect my machines and clean everything monthly.

Its too bad it has a kohler engine, chinese made junk, they should have used a Honda motor. Btw, I have a kohler toilet at home, installed it myself and on the bottom where the wax ring sits it says "made in korea" in the porcelain.........sad
