I grew up mountain biking as a kid. When I got in my 30's and needed a hobby, I remembered how much I loved riding trails so I wanted to see if I would still enjoy it. I went to BikesDirect and got a Motobecane hardtail for $699. I paid to have it assembled though I probably should've just done it myself. It got me into riding and fell back in love with riding. It was a 30lb brick of a bike but the XT components were great to start. I upgraded the wheels to Stan's. About a year later, I decided to upgrade and ended up buying each part of a bike, frame and all and built it myself. Forced me to understand bikes and how to service them. I turned my Motobecane into a wide tire road bike and then I found gravel. Ended up building a Niner Air9 into a gravel rig... and the obsession began. The real benefit of BikesDirect is that it's a FAR better option than box stores like Walmart and what-not. These are true bike components and can be serviced at a bike shop easily.

Yes! This is the feedback I needed. I have had no experience with the site so this comment may help some people out. I think the thing I like about it, is that there is something for everyone. If you want a cruiser for 300 bucks, they got you covered. If you want top of the shop at a good price, they have you covered. There is nothing flashy about their website. It looks like an online flea market of new bikes but it seems to work for them and those people wanting a good deal. And like you said, these are legit bike parts. Not junk.

Bikesdirect is really the one who started direct to consumer. I've been buying bikes from BD for years. It's a wonder why I don't see more of them on the roads and trails. The $1499 carbon 29+ hardtail can't be beat and the titanium 29+ hardtail looks spectacular. There is also an aluminum/carbon gravel/adventure bike with Ritchey Beacon flared bar, GRX600 2x11, hydraulic discs, and a remote dropper seatpost for $1799. I was going to buy a Motobecane full suspension MTB for around $2000 but instead got an Intense 951 XC for $1799 at Costco online. Carbon, Fox suspension, dropper, four piston discs, $1799.

I'd have to agree with you! Also, thanks for the idea on this video. I have heard of these Intense bikes being sold at Costco. I may have to look into that more and make a video.

@@TysRides My pleasure, glad to see you actually did it. The $1799 price was for only a brief time, it's back up to $2799, $3299 on Intense's site. Intense 951 is Intense's direct to consumer brand.

I've purchased 2 road bikes for $3200 each and 1 MTB which I spent about $3500 for, very satisfied with the bikes and components. I've upgraded the MTB, with a Transfer Dropper post and a new wheelset with industry-nine Hydra Hubs. The bike went from a great to an outstanding purchase.

My experience with them is very good and I certainly recommend them after ordering 2 bikes from them. I never had to call their customer service since all went smoothly on the order although shipping takes a while. I'm a hardtail mtber & ride close to everyday weather permitting. I rode my friends Motobecane Fantom 2.5 with a 3X8 for about a year before I had to give it back. I bought the same bike for $399 in 2020 & have been riding it for 4 years. I see they run $599 now but have a dropper post which I don't have. It is a great bike and for what you get for the money and it is my go-to-bike. I liked it so much I bought a $299 Motobecane back in 2022 for when the kids visit. I'm considering a carbon fiber from them but to be honest with the bike I have performing so well it is hard to justify the $$$. Tip of the day ... if you ride a lot remember to check that chain for wear!

That Kona Lauve looks good, its interesting , the motobecane fantom 29 expert has virtually the same component set as that Kona, it seems to me that most major bike brand frames are made in Taiwan at the same manufacture. Same as woodworking equipment. Just go with that Kona. looks good @@No_ReGretzky99

Two years ago, I bought a Motobecane Gravity gravel bike. It came with shimano Claris drivetrain complete with a free kick stand lol. I paid $700. I was a complete newbie to the bike world and didn’t understand components and levels of value. I put a set of tubeless hunt wheels and some salsa handlebars on it . I finished Gravel Worlds 150 mile with that bike. It got the job done. I bought a Lauf after that race . Weight matters, and the Lauf suspension is awesome. I still ride the Motobecane around town. I’m in the market for a mountain bike now. What mountain bike would you suggest for The Dakota Five O race? Hard tail or full suspension ? Thanks!
@TysRides
@TysRides 4 месяца назад
Sounds like that Motobecane was a good steed for you! I did gavel worlds a few years ago. That race was tough as hell. My girlfriend has a Lauf and loves it. Everyone I've met who has a Lauf loves it. Man, a race that that I feel like a low travel full suspension XC bike would be perfect but if the budget is tight, hardtail would get the job done.

BD seem to have decent pricing on gravel wheelset as well. Complete DT Swiss G540s wheelset of different flavors with Maxxis Ramblers and rotors included for $299. And yes, their website could use a facelift. It looks like something built with Windows 95 - circa 56kpbs Dial-Up Internet. TY, ty for the vid!

Man, there are a lot of good options out there that fit this category. Really just depends how much you want to spend. I love my Cervelo Aspero. It is a more racey gravel bike. I just got an email from Obed too. They currently have some insane deals on the GVR right now which kind of fit the description of what you are looking for.

@TysRides Thanks for the reply 🙏 The Cervelo is a sweet pick little pricey for a good spec. I'm a Mtber try to go roadie for more miles/fitness. Looking for comfort and speed. Was gonna go the gravel bike route. But something's telling me to just jump all in. Since all be on pavement 90% Been rocking my brain with research. Wish there was a one by all road that was build for speed! What do you think about the Lauf Uthald? Not many reviews. I was going to get the seigla an turn it in to a more efficient road bike. But now after test riding a Specialized crux seems mybe I should go for the allroad Lauf bike?

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the Lauf but just took a quick look at it and that thing is SWEET! Lauf makes some really nice bike that are reasonably priced. I made an endurance bike video a while back. Give that a look. There were some good bikes on that list. The Santa Cruz stigmata is a 1x but that is a bit pricey.@@AARON818818

I also have a Gunnar/Campi steel. couple treks. carbon xtc Giant. some old Schwinn. at the moment the Titanium has 45's with gravel tread. the Giant has dt swiss with tubes and liners inside book worms great set up. but heavy. not like the full suspension. turn this off go ride. yes I like Bikes Direct. no affiliation.

@@TysRides What would your expectations be if you bought your 14 year old a Motobecane 29'er and within 2 months the carbon bottom bracket totally delaminates while riding basically a new bike on a bike path? Oh, then you are told that you are responsible to disassemble the bike so you can return the frame only. Then you get to source a box and pay for the return shipping both ways to let bd inspect it to make sure it's covered by warranty. (and hope they do) And then wait several months for a replacement that still has not showed up.
@TysRides
@TysRides 4 месяца назад
@picshooter I would be pissed but I guess poor customer service is part of the trade off to save some money. In this case, I hope you get the new frame soon and it's better. Also, thanks for the comment. Most of the comments are from ppl who have had good experiences but I knew there had to be some negative experiences with Bikes Direct. I'm almost thinking aluminum or titanium might be a better option when getting a bike from Bikes Direct. Hopefully ppl see these comments so they understand what they might be getting in to. I really hope you get it worked out and your boy is riding again soon.

@@picshooter I can't stand whiny people like you who talk about a minor inconvenience likes it some big terrible insurmountable obstacle. I'm guessing BikesDirect is not quite as nice as the LBI, but one can still get joy and happiness from one of their bikes. And if you can't well you should really learn to be less miserable perhaps it would cheer you up. And also, your whining could mislead someone from purchasing and enjoying a decent bike. You seem like the sort of whiny person who would rather miss out on a wonderful day out, because it would mean putting on a bit of mosquito spray or waiting in line for a few minutes. Your comment is just blah blah blah to me.

@@picshooter "delaminates" - sounds like there is a bit of normal cosmetic aging on a part that still works fine. "Source a box" - a pretentious way of saying "going to the dollar store to buy a box."
