This depiction of Death is kinda intimidating but actually really chill. He regards himself as the "funny skeleton man" that ferries souls on a boat ride to the afterlife.

Mori's take on Death definitely has echoes of Terry Pratchett's Death from the Discworld series. A sympathetic entity that knows that death is an inevitable part of existence, but doesn't see it as a reason to be cruel to the confused and panicking souls of those trying to make sense of their situation. To quote Pratchett's Death: "What can the harvest hope for, if not for the care of the Reaper Man?"

I always have a funny head canon that somehow, after Calli saves Ame, our little genius detective pieced together that it was Death herself who saved her. And after several years, when they met again, Ame was in Hololive and invites Calli to join her. And in the distance, a man in a suit sitting in a car was watching the whole thing with a small smile plastered on his face. Who could that man be? 😂

I have always loved this depiction of the Grim Reaper, it's comforting to think of oblivion as a friendly embrace, I am not religious nor believe in the paranormal, but I do just want to see a funny skeleton man in the end.

Mori has mentioned that while she is the Grim Reaper's apprentice, she only reaped human souls. There are apparently reapers for other thing, like animals. You should also check out Calliope's Christmas Catastrophe. It's a 3 part story that's also a collab with Merryweather.

If you haven't heard Omaru Polka's song "Everblue", you should definitely do a video reacting to it! It has English CC too. A clip of Polka that could go along with it in the reaction thematically is "Honestly a pretty scary dream" by VTJ Clips. And for something that's _also_ related: in December 2021, Nenechi had a depressive episode (she'd start crying from just turning on her PC, and couldn't eat or sleep for days), so Polka went to her place and dragged her to the hospital, and Nenechi got formally diagnosed with depression. Then about a year after that, she celebrated on stream that she was off her antidepressants!

I knew, that when Calli and Merry got together the lore was going to be great but I didn't expect that twist, I have heard the phrase death is a part of life but I have never seen it portrayed in such a positive light, this may be Merrys best work, and Calli is much sweeter than she lets on.

Thing is, repercussions for Calli saving people could still happen, even if Death Sensei himself forgives her.
