That performance is nothing short of a religious experience. Pink Floyd and the guitar of David Gilmour is something special.

Just fyi, that solo has now been voted the #1 guitar solo in rock history! I was fortunate enough to see David do it twice to perfection! There is no band better than these guys were. I've seen them many times, along with many of the greats in classic rock, PF still the best, 50+ years and counting!

For me, this is the best guitar solo ever by anyone, and it was performed by my favorite band ever.

Pink Floyd is in a genre all by itself. Their albums were concept albums best played from beginning to end in one setting.. No worries about playing a bad song....they don't have any. Thanks for letting it play thru. Really enjoyed your reaction. I've been listening to PK since '73 with the release of 'Dark Side of the Moon' album and have been an ardent fan ever since. Seen them in '94 and man they somehow made it to where the music seemed to go through my body, it was by far the best concert I have ever been to. As an "older" Pink Floyd fan I'd say take a look at the guys "back in the day" playing live in an ancient Roman Amphitheatre with No Audience, No Lights, No Pyrotechnics and a Dave Gilmour with No Shirt! Pink Floyd "Echoes" (Part 1) live at Pompeii 1972

I wasn't at this specific concert, but I did see them on this tour in Nashville, and it remains to this day (and over 150 concerts later) the single greatest thing I've ever witnessed in my life. And yes, this song (the greatest song ever written and recorded) was just as face meltingly spectacular in Nashville as it was in this video.

I've been fortunate to see Pink Floyd twice in concert, and both shows were a feast for the ears and the eyes. Guitars want David Gilmour for Christmas.

In person, the lights were ten times as impressive. Nothing I've seen online does them justice. One of the last big concerts before they were all ruined by thousands of camera phone lights.

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show Syracuse Carrier Dome in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all. When the “Disco Ball’ was uncovered and the lights hit it….. WHAT IS HAPPENING was what I said….The entire crowd was held in a trace and our minds totally blown by what we witnessed.

The guitar solo is well known as one of the best of all time. I saw Pink Floyd 11 times on the Pulse tour and each night the solo was different. The structure was basically similar but there were nuances that made each night different. I wouldn't trade those 11 nights for anything.

They say that the crowd leaving the arena after that concert were *TOTALLY SILENT* . . . Just STUNNED by what they had seen and heard. .

I was there and yeah it was really something. There was a sign on the way in that said 'This concert is being filmed'. With the Floyd you get awesome music and equally awesome visuals.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

I saw them twice in the late 1980s at two different outdoor stadium venues. Pink Floyd was a band that made their concerts an experience for all the senses. In terms of the sound, the stage took up the entire end zone at one end of the stadium, and then there were banks of loudspeakers as large as most touring bands use for their entire show at midfield on either side of the stadium and then another bank of speakers at the far end of the stadium from the stage. During certain parts of the show, the sound from the band would literally circle around you as they threw it from one set of speakers to another, and sometimes they would play different instruments or different effects from the speakers in other parts of the stadium. For your eyes, in addition to the laser and lighting effects that you saw in this song, they would use huge practical effects (an inflatable pig the size of a small blimp was one) that would float out over the crowd, and pyrotechnics onstage during certain parts of the show. Your sense of touch was engaged because the sound was so loud you would feel the bass and the drums in your body when they played. And in terms of smell--well, the crowd took care of that because there were always plenty of 420 smoke billowing from people smoking during the show. I'm positive that if there was some legal way for Pink Floyd to introduce some sort of flavored mist into the air of the concert venues, they would have done that, too. You never just went to a Pink Floyd show, you felt like you were fully immersed in a Pink Floyd show. Absolutely one of the top live bands I have ever seen, and I went to many, many concerts from my teens all the way through my 20s and into my 30s.

Respect for respect. You got it bro. David’s guitar is his true voice. A singular talent.

It never gets old seeing people who had no idea sitting there speechless while they are witnessing for their first time David Gilmour doing what only David Gilmour can. If you want to explore further I recommend his Royal Albert Hall Gig 2006. This particular song he performs with David Bowie and he delivers some remarkable guitar playing even for his own standards throughout the whole gig. I suggest „Time“ and „Echoes“ out of that performance as your next David Gilmour experience.

Pink Floyd and Dire Straits 😍

I had the chance to see this show two nights in a row during their visit to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994. Since I worked night shifts, I had to go to work after the show, and the buddies at work looked at me like if I was high on drugs, yet I hadn't taken anything. With Pink Floyd, no need for drugs to get high, their music is more than enough and in addition, there is no danger of overdose. But seeing them performing can become addictive, hence the reason for seeing this show twice.

I was there! The best gig I have ever to be witness to! Exceptional with no exception. Makes me shiver every time I here any all or part of this show!

I had already been to at least 6 PF concerts, however, I cried like a baby at the end of the last one, which was indeed at this very concert. Not exclusively for the obvious reason but I instinctively knew that this would be the very last time I ever saw PF live, which indeed it was. I knew then that nothing absolutely nothing will ever do what that event did to my being again. It was not the last PF concert that I ever attended it was the last rock concert I ever attended after being at several hundreds of them over the preceding 22 years. I occasionally listen to some of the old stuff, and it sounds in many ways even better than it did then. However, something in me died when David Gilmour hit that last cord, and I am not at all sure what it was.

I saw Pink Floyd the night after this was filmed at Earl's Court in London in October 1994. They were even more impressive in person. The visuals were stunning let alone the music. By far the best indoor concert I've ever witnessed.

Loved the way your face lit up when Dave kicked in with the second solo and then looked totally gobsmacked by the end of it. A real delight to see a young guy like yourself getting into these classic rock tracks. Pink Floyd have this effect on everyone who sees and hears their brilliant performances. Crazy story.. Birmingham show.. me and 11 friends from 1st yr college went to show. We were right under that ball. I was soo fkd up that I thought it was a giant octopus coming down to eat me 😄😄 sooo. What did i do. I followed them for next 3 shows and when i went bk to my college 5 states over, by then 🙄, i had flunked out. Completely worth it. STILL made it to another college and still onto med school. 47 now.. wouldn't have changed a thing!!!!!

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

Saw Pink Floyd in LA in the early seventies on a visit to see a buddy whose roommate was a huge PF fan and invited me to go. Never heard of them, was blown away, first band I saw use lasers and Co2 smoke machines. Epic show, became an instant fan.

I've seen Pink Floyd 4 times in my life and that guitar solo was one of David Gilmore's best. He is the king of emotional guitar riffs. There's so many great solos out there, but few take you on the emotional rollercoaster like this. Your appreciation is awesome to see, it's a long journey and there's lots where this came from.

I just subscribed when i saw you listening to this for the 1st time... I love watching the reactions... I saw this tour back in '94 at Giants Stadium & Veterans Stadium, just an amazing unforgettable show

The first time I heard Pink Floyd it was in 1973. It was my first year of high school and in my history class, my teacher enter in the class with what we called a pick-up it was a kind of turn table with speakers on it. He said, close your book because today we will hear something very special. It was what you called the triangle who is a pyramid with a prism. The album is The Dark Side Of The Moon. It's the first album Pink Floyd was able to release in North America and they were ahead of their time with lasers and special effects. Seeing a Pink Floyd show was more than a show it was an event, a journey. When you listen a song it doesn't work that way, you have to listen the entire album because they tell you a story. The Dark Side Of The Moon is about life and death. In the movie Dune they used the last song of this album. 2023 is the 50th birthday of this album.

Congrats! It IS the greatest guitar solos ever. YOu got it right. Most average people put this performance on their top 10 guitar solos, unless they live under a rock. David Gilmour is one of the best guitarist ever, up there with Jimi, May, Page, Santana, Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young (and his brother!) among others.

Kudos on not interrupting the solo! Few things are more painful than being ripped out of the middle of a Gilmour guitar solo. Yes, David's guitar sings for him - and cries and moans and wails. He's perhaps the most emotive of guitar players, and his solos are transcendent. Pink Floyd will take you to strange and beautiful places!

And THAT wasn't even the last encore! RUN LIKE HELL was. Best F--king concert I ever saw (I was at the Oakland Coliseum show) and heard. Their concert equipment sounded better than any high-end home stereo system. And multi-channel too, with speaker stacks high up in the back of the upper deck seats on the left, right and far back of the stadium. Mind blowing show! I went to many concerts in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, and this left them all behind in visuals and sound. I never saw or heard anything as awesome since either. Watch the whole thing on video when you get a chance.

Saw this in Yankee Stadium. The stage was at Home plate and the ball started rising up from center field. When it opened Brilliant sparkling lights filled the entire stadium although I had a contact high I felt like I was Trippin

Saw that show in Basel/switzerland 6th of august '94. I never forget that date. Im still in shock today. By far the best gig i was EVER. I saw a lot of gigs by many great bands, but this was the peak of the mountain. I am a lucky guy that i had a chance to see them live. Unforgettable.

Thát's why it's widely seen as the greatest guitar solo ever, cuz when it comes to setting in motion all kinds of emotions nothing else even comes close, though second best is pretty damned amazing as well. I think I'm gonna have to check out what else you've reacted to. With a little luck you have already found the second band in that other universe from the rest of us with Floyd - when it comes to musical genious applied to the rock genre - and that is of course the band Tool.
