I Traveled from New York to Nashville in the search of the members of the legendary band Don Kelley’s Band , after Don Kelley retirement they adapted the name Kelley’s Heroes and keep rocking the Nashville Local Scene with Great performances Joe ( Bass ) @slickjoefick , Billy ( Drums ) @backbeatvanvleet , Lucas ( Guitar ) @lukemcqueary
Talking to Lucas we mention a video we both watch 10 years ago with the similar title as this video but in that case the guitar player was JD Simo ,
Don Kelley’s band is famous for helping guitar players like , Guthrie Trapp , JD Simo , Daniel Donato and many more

shredding is a small part of being a great guitar player , most of the guys considered to be the greatest guitar players of all time rarely if ever shred ...

10 years ago a video with the same title came out but the guitar Player was JD Simo , that’s the reason I travelled to Nashville the first time , to go to Robert’s and see the Band Kelley’s Heroes , when I was there talking to the guitar player on the video ( Luke McQueary) we both mention the same video about JD Simo as the reason why we were on that place , that’s the reason this video is called like that because we saw that video with that title and I wanted to know if that title was click bait and Sure it is that’s went all of you comment on it , we all want to see who is the best in Nashville , Luke is a Great Guitar Player who is walking towards heroes like Guthrie Trapp , Tom B ( Uncle Larry ) , Joe Bonamassa Brad P and the other legends , but for a 20 years old + guitar player and Playing every single day , I’m sure We will talk different about him in the Future I know the guy personally and he is A Great Guitar player

I've been in Nashville since 1989 and spent a decade playing a few doors down every Wednesday/Friday night at The Stage so I'd usually head downtown early to catch all the pickers at Roberts.. From Redd Volkaert to Johnny Hiland to JD Simo, etc. Almost all these guys can play anything at a high level. The semi-drunk tourists LOVE this showy shreddy stuff and the musicians love tips.. so this is what you get...at least part of the night. If you worked in Don Kelly's band it was a requirenent for sure.

Since you were able to see him live, did you notice what pedals he’s using? And is that a Fender Tele or the Xotic effects tele? What pickups are on his guitar? Into a fender deluxe? I’ve been curious to know more about his rig, he gets a great tone. And yes Luke Mcqueary is a phenomenal guitar player in town filled with amazing guitar players, some who’ve passed through Don Kelley’s band and others who have not. I don’t think we should use the word best for any player. Music and guitar playing shouldn’t be a competition in my opinion. There are many great players, both in Nashville and elsewhere, I’m happy I get to watch them all and learn from them all here on RU-vid

No doubt. Can we take a minute and acknowledge whomever this cat is that was walking out that TIIIIGHT bass line, slapping that doghouse like it owed him money, and basically not only keeping the rhythm on point, all while basically playing bass like a 2nd lead instrument . Yep, forgot his name but he’s been around a long time. He’s played all over Nashville and up and down the Honky Tonks (When it used to be all Honky Tonks) with lots of different guys. I think he even did the Rockabilly thing with a 3 piece across from Legends Corner for several years. He was all over the place doing that style music. He’s a killer bass player. There’s another older guy that used to play with Don quite a bit that was really good too. Can’t remember his name. He played with Cash some way back and he played with Dwight Yoakum too. You can see him in Dwight’s video Intentional Heartache. There’s great musicians everywhere in Nashville that no one has ever heard of.

I’ve got this. He’s the best guitarist on Lower Broadway, and that’s not trivial. Hiland, Trapp and Mason all came up through Roberts Western World, and he is following in that tradition. But he won’t join their ranks as one of the GOATS until he gets out of there. Fortunately he’s young, and has time. He needs ambition. My 2c.

He’s good, flashy bar player, and very entertaining with the house band (Kelly’s Hero’s) but he’s not really among the true apex predators among guitarists in Nashville at this point , many of whom are full time studio players rather then doing clubs 4-5 nights a week (which is more a comment on how many jaw dropping guitar virtuosos there are in greater Nashville). It’s scary that Luke McCreary is so young, as he’s only going to get even better. There a lot of monster players, but Go watch videos of Tom Bukovac or Guthrie Trapp whom are probably on the short list for current “best of” in Nashville. You can find some videos of McCreary playing with those guys and you can see the difference between a very skilled player (McCreary) and guys that are great players that get asked to record songs. It’s just night/day in the maturity of what they do when noodling around

Yeah that’s the old Don Kelly band I think or since he stopped I think it’s “ Kelly’s hero’s “ but Don always had the hottest players in Nashville from back to Brent Mason , Red Volkhart( my personal favorite) ,Johnny Highland , Jd Simo, Luke Mcquery, Guthrie trapp ( another favorite) & outstanding bass player Dave Roe who’s played with Cash & Dwight yokam for years , so that place has been a breeding ground for exceptional great players so it only makes sense the best of the best is in there still playing…. I guess playing there is kinda like the farm team for the road gigs .. lol .. I’m 40 & have been a tele player for years & on my very best day I can’t play like that kid so my hats off to him !!!

@@armandredman When I got to Nashville in 2009, the guitar player was JD Simo!! A great and exciting guitar player, and very importantly a nice guy!!! I'm sorry I left and missed Luke McQueary and at the time Daniel Donato had the gig and he's very good but no JD!!! But I was blessed to become friends with Brent and Randy Mason who had me over for Thanksgiving every year and I got to play and learn from Brent and Randy, Randy being and great drummer AND guitar player who worked with Merl Haggard and Conway Twitty!! The whole family was musical and Brent gave me a PRS Brent Mason model which has become my No.1!!! I really miss Nashville a lot and I learned so much from musicians there that became my friends and taught this Rock n' Roller how to be a legitimate Country Guitar Player!!! I even got to play acoustic guitar on a session where Johnny Hiland was the electric player!! Another great guy!!! Most of the best are!!!
