One useful alternative to a lift is to construct a plank covered pit, when building the slab. Simple and effective.
@herohoistsaustralia4502
@herohoistsaustralia4502 Год назад
@@chargehanger My understanding is that most councils will put the kibosh on that… as you need a ‘fence’ around it and warning signs etc… Probably more expensive to excavate and then line the pit / provide ventilation etc 🤫
@chargehanger
@chargehanger Год назад
@@herohoistsaustralia4502 Don't need all of that. Closing and securing when not in use is what the planks are for. Bonus : with thick planks you can drive over the planks, so no risk to put a wheel down the pit. example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uOqXIK4sNso.html

The problem with 2 post hoists these days is the parts supply problem. Chances are some parts will be required mid-job and the part may take ages to come. This leaves you with the only option to reassemble the car to the point where it can be moved just so it can work on something else. With this, you could lower the job onto stands and pull the lift out and continue to work.

I can see this being very handy. I have a 2 car garage and only 1 car fits in, so I could easily store the hoist on 1 side when not in use. Ceiling height would obviously be an issue, but there’s another thing I noticed - the cross bar that connects the 2 sets of arms would likely get in the way if you were planning a gearbox removal, at least in a RWD vehicle. Great for oil changes or brake jobs, or even engine removal on a later model vehicle, where the engine has to come out from underneath. In fact it would be perfect for that, cause you could wheel the car away from the engine

I have one of these lifts, had it for two years. It's very useful but has its' limitations. It can be a faff to get a car where it is safe to lift. I ALWAYS give said car/van, whatever, a bloody good "ragging" at the rear end when it is about eighteen inches or so off the ground; better to fall from the lift at that height than 6 feet in the sky. I have a tiny business in North Wales, and this lift has been invaluable. Love the channel John 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
@herohoistsaustralia4502
@herohoistsaustralia4502 Год назад
Yes - better to be safe than sorry. That really should be done on 2-posters too. Nothing should be taken for granted or done too quickly or carelessly. Not sure however what you mean by a ‘faff’ to get a car where it’s safe to lift? Just not familiar with the expression… -------------- When guys get this lift from us we always sell them at least 2 of the under-hoist support/safety stands - at a bit of a discount… They’re a great addition to any lift - and provide extra reassurance on this type of hoist… As John says - not absolutely necessary - but highly recommended… And, this hoist is now supplied with a Wired Remote Control - which allows the operator to move away from behind the post and ‘spot’ the car on the lift as it ascends; to make doubly sure that the vehicle is properly balanced… That feature really does make a big difference to the operator’s confidence…

Hi Peter, thanks for that 👍 Potential owners might like to know that the 9XL / 9 Pro and V8 are all USA 3rd-Gen designs with the box-section ‘posi-lock’ posts and sleeved ‘wrap-around’ crossbars - which significantly boost the rigidity of the hoists. We pioneered this concept in Australia. The factory that supplies Advantage Lifts in the USA also exclusively supplies us. It’s the same hoist. We give it the Lift King branding. They brand it with the Advantage Lift moniker. So, you’re investing in the latest concept in 4-Post Car Hoist design, with an internationally proven product. That’s why Hero Hoists is able to offer the BEST warranty of any retailer in Oz - hands down. The product speaks for itself - no marketing hype or BS required… 🙂

As always good content John, love your work. My fat cave was designed during some major house renos its about a 2.5 car width garage with 3m headroom and incorporates a single post parking lift in the left bay and in ground scissor lift in the second bay this means I can park the wifes car under my MGBV8 and park our other classic Mk1 Sprite in there as well plus a motorcycle, with the scissor lift down I still have plenty of floor space. Both lifts give me a working height of about 1.8m to underside, I cant believe how much I use them both and could not manage without them now. the parking lift was about $7k installed but was way way cheaper than trying to extend the garage by another 3m. Best investment I ever made.

JC, mate, I've just noticed something about your video. To your right there is a machined block of steel with an array of drilled holes that we the viewer can see through (the array is 3x15). Well I notice that the holes in that array are not round, they appear to be elliptical in shape. Possibly this is caused by distortion of the aspect ratio of the video. This distortion would also have the effect of changing the aspect ratio of your image as well. Making you appear (my apologise if this triggers your sense of offence) shorter and wider. Not sure this is the image you are trying to project, but good on you if your not concerned by this unfortunate consequence of technology. Cheers.

Been around for quite some time now mate. I have been getting my truck "rego washed" every 6 months. My 9t isuzu tipper boggie gets raised by 2 of these jack hoists high enough for an average sized man to walk under it and spary everything I can't get to on the ground. These are of course designed for the applications they are intended for. I wouldn't be using the one John did to jack my truck up... this goes without saying but I feel probably should be. For those in the market I definitely recommend these... especially for the portability.

This hoist would be perfect for my needs. I have just done a trans fluid change on my Kia Sportage and I was over it getting the bottom tray off. Humping under a car is hard work I am not used to. Very satisfied with smoother changes but took a couple of days to recover. Also my Cruze is just barely high enough to get the pan under for oil changes. And me. Only twice a year but it would be the ducks nuts doing pad changes and wheel rotations. Down teepee!

Unfortunately I moved some 1550+km from our previous home NSW to our new residence in QLD and part of the deal with the purchase of the the house was the owners left behind the 2 post hoist in the garage. Mechanic by trade so I knew this hoist was not a $2.50 deal of some Ubay or Wattle tree seller, It is a workshop or Dealership quality hoist. Well obviously the better half don't see the good side of the purchase, but hay I'm having fun... 🛻🛠🙇‍♀️🙋‍♂️🧑‍🔧🤣👍👍👍

Needs even less height to install… Takes the ‘scare’ factor away completely. Same price as this hoist. Option it with jacking beam/s for easy, quick and safe wheels-free servicing. Good for any standard wheelbase sedan or compact SUV / 4WD. We recently sold 1 to a BMW X3 owner - he ❤ it… Pics on request thru the Hero Hoists (Australia) Contact Us page… 🙂

I'm pleased that this comes with stabilizers. As someone who has pulled a vehicle off a 2 post lift with a torque wrench while installing a hitch, it's necessary. I got out of the way and the guy holding the wrench just stood there and let the vehicle fall beside him. Rather than go through insurance, I end up buying, fixing, and keeping it as the shop truck. Left the big dent on the side of it where it rolled into the post as a reminder to new guys. Be more careful. And bloody well pay attention and get the hell out of the way if something starts to go wrong!!!

Hi Joe, thanks for your input. It highlights the fact that a 2-Poster is also out to kill you if you aren’t careful and take every precaution to mitigate disaster. That’s why we STRONGLY encourage the use of the Under Hoist Support / Safety Stands… and provide them as an add-on with every sale - at a discount. * An even bigger discount if you mention this video review. --------------- FWIW, we’ve seen pics of cars falling off 4-Posters too… 9 times out of 10 it’s due to operator error, ignorance and/or lack of maintenance. This is HEAVY MACHINERY. It needs to be respected and used / set-up correctly. 1-Post, 2-Post, 4-Post; the same orientation applies…. It’s kinda like defensive driving; if you don’t practice it - eventually you’ll get kicked… 😐

Gidday John,. I use a set up called a MaxJax for QLD, which is a portable twin post hoist for the home garage. It is bolted to the concrete floor when in use and wheeled away when not. It has multiple safe lock heights, a separate hydraulic pump trolley and all stores away when not in use. I have a domestic garage which is a little higher than a standard roof line. I can't stand under my various cars, but sit on a mechanic stool and work under them. The bonus is that I can set up one to the pump and use it as a single post fork for my motorcycles. 15 min set up or pack up too. Just FYI should you wish to look into it whilst on this topic. All the best.

We have 2 versions of that product; a 2.70T and 3.20T. The larger model provides something very close to full working height… and needs just a little over 2 metres height to install…. Yes, they’re nice systems - but not quite the lift height of the Lift King Single Post Portable Service Hoist… They also need to be ‘dis-mounted’ after use - which is a hassle to many. Nevertheless, if you prefer a storable/portable 2-Post system that completely ‘goes away’ after use - with your help - they’re ideal. We supply lifting forks as an optional accessory for both units. That means lifting from the wheels - leaving the underbody completely free to drop transmissions/diffs/exhausts etc… 🙂

Height /width ,, ,, angled posts or straight ,,, some std. support arms are very heavy to move so pick low weight /profile option . Some hoists can only be changed at time of ordering , some can be reconfigured after purchase . . If it lives outside splash covers [partly waterproofing ] will be needed . Nice hoist...how do I remove the gearbox out of the vehicle with a pallet jack hoist? Technically a 2 post clear floor hoist is better for actually working on a vehicle and rated at 4.5 ton. The pallet jack hoist might be OK for tyre service business who want to work outdoors or just want an additional hoist in the workshop.

@herohoistsaustralia4502 Год назад
Hi Rob, a lot of common services can be performed on this hoist, including gearboxes on most front wheel drive cars. And, there are usually work-arounds for many other vehicles… As for lift capacity, if it was rated any higher than 2500kgs it would need to be made larger and heavier - and that’d mean it wouldn’t be a portable freestanding system anymore. Realistically, 2500kgs is fine for most sedans, and even utes… 2-Posters need more height and more width to install - and don’t offer the flexibility of this design. Of course, horses for courses - and we sell 2-Posters too… 🙂

Got a 3 t scissor lift in a shallow pit in the front garden/ drive. It’s boarded over till required, tarps under boards and white greased all over so damp won affect it. The pit is 14” deep with a big soak away and heavy concrete pad so the whole thing is well stable. I can get my lwb Landy in the air in 15 minutes, level stable and safe to adjust brake’s change oils etc and I’ve made four cribs to lower it onto so the lift goes back to ground level and the the vehicle is 20” up on its wheels. Piss easy to work on chassis exhaust props differential etc and totally safe. The missus gave me her blessing to get and install and it cost me nearly two grand ( uk) to buy. Two hundred quid for carriage but it’s over half a ton of steel! Made in china but to a British firms spec. All welds good, very thick steel and I’m using two thirds it’s capacity. At sixty it’s a worthwhile investment, I could do all this with blocks and jacks but it would take a lot of effort and time, and now I can go up , then down for one bolt, then up again, at the touch of a button.

In over 10 years of handling and selling it - not a single negative comment… In fact - happy to put you in touch with many delighted owners… Why? Because we simply don't deal with the lowest common denominator suppliers. And, many folks just don't have the room for a 4-Post or 2-Post (which both require either more width and'/or length.) 90% of services that can be done on a 2-Poster can be done on this lift - it just needs a little lateral thought and a small re-orientation... @@aaronhogan2371 Hey Aaron, it's not just a 'sales pitch' - it's a fact. I take pride in the products I bring in and really do stand by them - and UNDER them. It's not a 'poor cousin' to a 2-post or 4-post - it's a viable alternative to them - particularly if you're space-challenged. No hoist is perfect for every service and 2-Posters aren't the be-all and end-all either… In fact, I know many mechanics who prefer the 4-Posters for practically every service. Our Lift King Single-Post Portable Service Hoist is probably our most versatile hoist - and when you option it with the UTV Adaptors - even more so... While you're completely free to make observations, the negative tone of your initial comment really can't be justified.

For very low to average height garages, we have a 2-Post Storable / Portable model that needs a tad over 2 metres... or our 'baby' 4-Poster; the 9S needs just 2.237m. It lifts 4000kgs and is only 3.460m in length x 2.635m in width. Perfectly fine for average wheelbase vehicles - or compact 4WDs… :)

Might need to stick some cushions on the ceiling of the garage if height is marginal. Maybe from an old sofa. And a whoopee cushion stuck to the underside of the sofa cushion to alert you when contact is made. As for finding the lift point one could take the car around a sloping bike track and see how much the car wants to lean down at the front or the back (usually the front because engine) to decide how biased the centre of gravity is with respect to the front or back.

The car get fastened by the wheel studs on one side, then the whole car get rotated 90 degrees and you have the whole bottom of the car vertical and in front of you. For that, you will need another parking space next to the car to rotate to. It is like driving a car on a wall. Now I don't know who used to make them or what you call them anymore. maybe you do ??

I'm sure it's perfectly stable, well engineered, and suitably strong. It still scares the crap out of me. The front-to-back stability seems very questionable, especially if you're changing center of mass by removing a transmission, engine, or both. However, I feel I must acknowledge that I'm biased and unable to approach this as rationally as I should, as I had a vehicle tip forward off a lift and almost crush me and three other technicians, destroying a 1930 Ford Model A family heirloom in the process. John, should you feel so inclined, I would love to see a breakdown on the physics and geometry of this lift. Break my bias! :)

We have force calculations available - usually confidential info - but as these concerns always seem to pop-up with 1-Posters, I’ll make them available to anyone seriously contemplating getting 1. But, that’s on the proviso a deposit is placed. If after viewing the info you are still unsure, we’ll happily refund your deposit… This hoist has TUV and Australian Certiification. Independently verified by an Australian engineer. Simply put - you needn’t be concerned. And, as an incentive to purchase 1, if you mention John’s video review, you can have the 2 x Under-Hoist Support Stands for only $99.00 more. We normally charge $275.00 for them. If you want even heavier-duty support stands, we have them too. Of course, common-sense dictates offsetting any weight removed from 1 end of the vehicle by placing the support stands appropriately - to counteract the weight difference. ----------------- Don’t forget, you also get the EXCLUSIVE Hero Hoists Lifetime Structural Warranty & 3-Year Motor Warranty. That’s the best warranty in the game… 🙂

If you do some more hunting for images online you’ll see there’s many pics showing a slight lean with heavier vehicles raised. That’s normal… and can be counteracted somewhat by raising the outer pad extenders up higher than the inner pair… ------------- 9 times outta 10 we provide the auxiliary under-hoist support stands. You can get them in a higher load capacity too if it concerns you… It comes down to common-sense and correct set-up / safe operation. The product hasn’t had a reported incident or failure in over 10 years of us handling it. It’s been thoroughly tested at the highest lift-height with a 2500kg vehicle. It’s completely safe to work underneath - given a properly balanced vehicle on a flat/level surface. There’s no issue here… however in saying that all measures should be taken to mitigate any possible safety issue. But, that’s true for ALL car hoists…

About the only fault i can see with this hoist is anything to do with gearbox/transfer case possibly tailshaft exhaust. Purely because of that arm reaching across the floor to lift the outside of the car. I wonder if they would consider making a 2 part version of this with a link arm across the floor so they couldnt spread apart and remove the single long lift arm in favour of 2 sets.
@herohoistsaustralia4502
@herohoistsaustralia4502 Год назад
Hi Ben, it’s not so much a fault as a limitation - but there are probably workarounds too… If you did want easier access to other components we have the - arguably - equally as flexible Storable 2-Posters available in 2.70T and 3.20T versions. The 3.20T model installs into just over 2.0m and has a good working height too - although not quite full lift height. The beauty of this version is higher capacity and the ability to ‘go away’ after use… In other words, wheel the columns away after use - so all you see are the female anchors, which are flush to the slab. If you want even more flexibility, set up multiple locations at various widths for wider and narrower vehicles… A recent development with this system is to allow forks to be added to the arms - allowing a lift from the wheels/tyres - thus permitting completely free access to the whole underside of the vehicle… Make an enquiry thru the Hero Hoists website - so I can send you info on that solution… 😄

Can it be stored outside the shed, and an old gq patrol weighs in at 2050kg Adding a bull bar, winch, dual battery system, roof rack and a drawer system how would that cope, I’m thinking it’s probably sitting at around the 2500kg mark and questioning the safety of a big wide beast on it. If it’s all A okay I’ll buy one. I don’t t like testing the rigours on the max level every time. I work with tools and machines everyday and in this scenario I’m looking for a hoist that lifts up to 3 tonne. Do you know if there is any upgrades that could be added for the safety of maximum load every time. It could even be pushing 2.6 tonnes to be honest.
@herohoistsaustralia4502
@herohoistsaustralia4502 Год назад
Unless the hoist is galvanised and electrics weather-proofed, NO car hoist is going to survive for long outside. If you cover it properly in between uses - that’s a different story. If you make an enquiry through the Hero Hoists (Australia) website - and tell us what the longest wheelbase vehicle to be raised is, we can then advise which model is gonna work 4U… If you want the most versatile / portable option it’ll be a 4-Poster. If the wheelbase is ‘average’ and you want the smallest possible footprint - it’s the Lift King 9S. That’s the smallest, full lift height 4.0T capacity 4-Poster on the market… 🙂

The other nice alternative to this hoist - with a 3,200kg capacity is our Storable 2-Poster. Essentially, it’s close to full lift height (at approx 1.50m) - and can be completely removed after use - freeing up the space it occupies… The only ‘disadvantage’ is it’s not quite FULL lift height… Nevertheless it’s a very useful hoist in every regard - WITHOUT the ‘bar’ connecting the posts to deal with as on conventional floor-plate models… Really - it’s the best of both types of 2-Posters… 🙂

This model has dual mechanical locks and a flow-control valve in the hydraulic cylinder. It's VERY safe. However, any hoist is only as safe as the operator using it and the surface on which its placed. And, with this model, we always sell 2 of the Under-Hoist Safety / Support Stands that John mentions - for that added level of stability and support. Not that it absolutely needs them - it's more for your peace-of-mind… Smart 2-Post hoist operators use them too… The thing about most 2-Posters is that you need a lot more width and height - and they're not portable… :)
