Wow Glen.. Wasn’t expecting that.. thank you to Dave as well for a very well presented video... I mean how do even have something like that in your possession???. Mad🤪🤪🤪🤪
Good morning Glen!!! You really seem to out do yourself!!! How can this be????? Know that you really are the best and loved by your viewers as David came to you to show off this special car. Thanks buddy for this!!
Glenn you are hitting on all cylinders this past weeks I can remember this buggy in the tamiya catalog and on the shelves back on the day tv manufacturer were very secretive back then no teasers or behind the scenes looks like they do now
Now that's what I'm talking about!!!! Great video!!! Bringing guests on, great idea!!! History and technical information along with having fun with these cars makes for a great show!!! Cheers I enjoyed that!!! Oh and I bought my Super Astute back in 1993 when I was 14 and I knew nothing about this!! Very cool!! Cheers!
The golden age of rc mid 80s late 90s was technical one upping by manufacturing I remember seeing so many ways to build off road buggies for the public there is a rare buggy it was front wheel drive with y shaped rear end I think it came from yokomo so much crazy innovation back then from all manufacturers it was like a arms race it was not uncommon to see 200-300 dollar kits back in the 80-90s love your review's and unique cars you find
Now your talking!. I was getting a bit jaded seeing the same old cars but this is another level. A part of history of our great hobby. Lucky man to own this model .
Thanks for this great video Glenn! What I heared about the 404x is that most drivers actually preferred the Top Force Evo. It was a faster and better handling car. In 92/93 Tamiya started to shift more towards on road cars and the Trf offroad development came to a stop. As the touring cars craze that Tamiya started they decided to develop the 411x, which initially was a Tamiya Usa project. This car was refined into the Trf414 which won the 2002 and 2004 Worlds with Surikarn and Marc Reinhard. Tamiya went on to win the 2008, 2010 and 2012 Worlds as well.
WOW..... I'll say it again backwards, WOW I knew of the 211x/411x, actually I think I may have posted drewl in the Tamiya Club 411x thread 5 years ago, but to see a NIB serial 001 211x just blows my mind, Great job, BEST Episode yet , congrats Glenn
WOW! I never knew something like that existed as I've only ever run Tamiyas for fun - I did have a go at racing a Manta Ray at a local indoor club - that was a lot of fun it has to be said!. Thanks, Glen and Dave.
Mind Boggling Glenn!!!! 😲😳 I was Racing for Team Associated at that time... I'm fighting to remember if I had come across one of those TRF 211Xs ..... How incredibly rare and precious!! Was that KIT NUMBER ONE - unbuilt!!!??? 😲😁 Über COOL!!!! 😎 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
There was a TRF 414X that was a twin belt carbon and aluminum touring car chassis that they sold a small number of that went into production as the TA04.
As usual, great video! I always thought that the TRF414X touring car was the first TRF model made. I remember reading in Radio Control Car Action magazine about the Tamiya factory team racing "heavily modified Astutes and Manta Rays" at an IFMAR Worlds race in the early 90's; cars that would eventually become the DynaStorm and the Top Force; but I never knew they actually had a TRF designation. Very cool buggy, and apparently even rarer than the rarest of production RC car models, the Hirobo Jealousy (also a super cool buggy!)
I can't find the words...the astute, my favorite 2wd buggy with the kyosho triumpf! David's trf 211, pure envy. The trf 411 looks like a dream. I didn't know either of them and call myself Tamiya addicted.... Well, after all, i once had the original avante astute egress optima lazer Triumph. What sang Barbara again? Memories...
The first TRF car was the Avanti Long Wheel Base, pree the Egress consisted of a motor and Carbon frame, Ti screws and some new plastics like swing arms, also think they updated gearbox parts too FYI.
I remember seeing the astute on the front cover of the model magazine, I bought it at release. Weak spot was the rear hubs, the toe in / out attachment would snap, the solution was fitting madcap rear hubs. Wish I still had it !
Wow!!! That was awesome, I didn't know either of those cars had been made. The shocks on the 411 looked like hi caps just anodised in blue not grey??? What about Jamie Booths prototype Egress, wasn't TRF behind it's development???????
The 411x was used by Spanish driver Danny Vega long after tamiya abandoned it. As far as I know Ellis stafford, Lee Wright and Alan harman raced 411x cars for a short time.
PuS is a swedish guy, Peter, that used to race Tamiya back in the 90s. He managed to source the 211 and 411 parts to build those buggies. Another swedish guy, Magnus, have a 211X as well. A clip from swedish magazine that I uploaded to Tamiyaclub can be found here www.tamiyaclub.com/article.asp?id=257. I thought of buying Magnus 211X, but the price was 2500 euros.
I love this sort of stuff! I consider myself a Tamiya man with pretty good knowledge, l am a member of the Tamiyaclub too so learn a lot from that club but its times like this l feel like a novice again lol! So much info especially from the 1990s tamiya timeline that keeps popping up and surprising me!! Great stuff!
Tamiyabase seems too mention this was produced at the same time as the trf211 tamiyabase.com/tamiya-models/93005 Another prototype TRF, from Tamiya. This 4WD TRF was developed at the same time as the TRF211X Prototype, and displayed at an Tamiya expo some time in 1992. Also those prototype was allegedly produced in very low numbers, 100 pieces are the guestimate. TRF did not return with a 4WD buggy until the 49401 TRF501X was released in 2006. last 4wd trf buggy is the 503 it seems, late 2014. tamiyabase.com/index.php?option=com_joodb&view=article&joobase=21&id=172&Itemid=1063 Also a few more trf chassis tamiyabase.com/chassis/255-trf201-xr#all-trf-chassis Would be neat seeing Tamiya do something with the db02 chassis theres only 1 model using it the leonis ? they kind of have a higher end db01rrr variant though last released in 2015.
@@TAMIYALegends there are many rare cars out there. Try finding a Ryuz. It was made by graunpner. Look for a m1 striker buggy which was a remade carbon fibre Tomy intruder. Look for a Nikko brat which is rare but they did option parts 1 and 2 for the Nikko making it into a full blown racer. All mega rare. How many more do you want?
Hey got a question for you as a kid friends had a 1/10 scale mid night pumpkin another’s friend had a 1/10 lunch box both had polycarbonate body’s I cannot find any them this day I was wondering what happened to those models they were really cool back in late 80s early 90s
I was 12 to when I got my first Tamiya a hornet and raced a little. I am Tamiya lover to and people poo poo me for it. They are so ingnorent of them these days as well a the old kyoshos. It is sad and kyosho is my second favorite hobby car company, my first is Tamiya.
Tamiya just don't care about racing anymore unless it's the TCS. I really don't think we'll see another TRF buggy or even modern race buggy from Tamiya unless the whole of RC racing completely changes from what it is currently.
Wow never seen or heard of those cars. I always felt Tamiya never really got into hard core racing, in the beginning in the 1970’s the little rivalry with Kyosho, I always felt, as David, Tamiya was a back yard fun buggy. I think that hurt Tamiya a little bit because they never seemed to be a name in the racing circuits.
