Is This the Saddest Moment in BIONICLE? 

I definitely get emotional sometimes at this moment. With both the powerful line "I am proud to call you... brother. Toa... Vakama." and the music crescendoing at 0:59.

He died in darkness with his adopted home in ruins, and with his people in the hands of a monster. Yet he used his last words to give his friend and protege the courage to fight on.

If Matoro's death had been animated, it would be the only one that could compete with this scene.

It saddens me how miserable Lhikan's life was, even before his death, he spent so much time as a lone Toa, with his comrades gone so long ago, either dead of traitors

He was a true Toa to the very end. A brother, mentor, and friend. May our good gold guy rest in peace...

Indeed! Especially if you know his entire history!! He lived one of the hardest lives of any character in bionicle. He's a real Hero!

100% yes! One of the saddest moments I've seen in movies. This death is not the "simple" death of a father or a mother, it's the death of a Toa, and this makes Bionicle on of the most original stories ever made! Turaga/Toa Lhikan forever in our hearts!

This just gets me thinking, imagine if we got Matoro’s death in film...

As a kid, Lhikan's death really stuck out to me compared to a lot of other movie deaths. You really feel the loss that Vakama feels and the music compliments the scene extremely well, and to see Lhikan slowly take his last breaths before his body fully shuts down instead of dying all at once adds so much more emotion than other hero's death scenes in movies imo.

In the movies, yes. With Jaller's sacrifice comin in second. Personally for me, I find the Toa Mahri defending Matoro's last chance to revive Mata Nui. Going into battle believing they were all doomed and Matoro would be the one going back home. Matoro's sacrifice is sad, but the Toa Mahri were all ready to die for their cause. And the moment when they're all back on Metru Nui, realising Matoro isn't with them and Jaller immediately says they need to go back for him. Real testament of his character.

This is why I upload clips like this. It brings the community together and I love it. Even something as tragic as this scene, makes all Bionicle fans come together.

Definetly one of the saddest deaths in the Bionicle story alongside the deaths of Matoro and Krika.

Oh definitely yes this scene always makes me teary eyes Lhikan embodied the three virtues to the end and once he said he was proud to call Vakama brother I know we all shed tears

This hits hard, especially since Jaller who is wearing his mask does the same self sacrifice move as Lhikan and dies..

That brief silence after his heart stone flickers out before vakama looks away in anguish has always been one of the most powerful moments from my childhood. Follow that up with Vakama finally accepting who he is and the awakening of his mask power, and thus this will always be my all time favorite Bionicle movie.

Yea this was truly sad, Lhikan was the last of the Toa Mangai, a generation that has tragically ended...

I cried when I saw it for the first time

Only now does it hit me how hard "I am proud to call you... brother" strikes as a line, especially when I found out Nidikhi was a Toa on Lhikan's team, and betrayed him. Hence the "You lost the right to call me brother long ago!" at the forge. When put together, it makes his final line all the more powerful when you realize that his respect and compassion for Vakama is potent and true because of what happened to Nidikhi, and he sees none of that in the Toa of Fire. I still cry at how beautiful the music conveys the slow passage of time it takes for Lhikan to finally pass on, and the fact that Vakama probably felt so guilty for getting his hero in mortal danger all over again, and with no chance to save him this time, but Lhikan made sure that Vakama had the Toa within him, and that his sacrifice wasn't for not. The Toa fist bump is already a sign of love, but the way Lhikan wraps his hand around Vakama's closed fist shows an extra step of admiration, jesus this movie is still beautiful to me.

I wish bionicle had movies after the 3rd movie

This made me cry when I was a kid. A beautifully done death scene.

Goodbye Toa. You will forever be missed.

The score adds so much to this scene. Nathan Furst went way above and beyond typical direct-to-video fare for these movies, made a really strong score that's better and more distinctive than a lot of theatrical stuff.

till this day i will always shed a Tear for the hero the legend Toa/Turaga Lhikan for he was the one who believed in the Toa Metru and there Unity to defeat Teridax...

What gets me about this scene is that, unlike the Takanuva sacrifice, Lhikan *stays* dead in this movie. Like... they really didn't pull any punches with that.

The Bionicle movie is so weird for me. I love it to bits, but it's so gloomy and grimy despite being a film for kids. Even when I was a kid, it was just depressing to watch. Cool as hell, but a real toll on the mind. I should really rewatch it, it's been such a long time, after all.

In Bionicle brothers and sisters mean they are connected through their duties rather than relations. But it's up to them to give it one more meaning: a family, something what the Makuta was unable to do with his own brothers and sisters (including Mata Nui) because of his descent into evil. And which is most heartbreaking when Toa's friend and mentor, the one that always believed in him, sacrifices himself saving his brother.

I honestly thought he was the previous Toa of Light. I know now he’s the fire, but dang if he didn’t look like Light was his “element.”

This was DEFINITELY the sadist scene in any Bionicle movie Lhikan is the best Toa ever

How dare a series about plastic men make me feel.

Is that even a question? I can recall a number of sad scenes, also in the Mask of Light like Jala's death. But this one... Lhikan was the last protection the new Toa ever knew. The first one to have faith in Vakama. The one who sacrificed much to see the new Toa empowered in a time of great darkness. If Bionicle ever did have parent figures, Lhikan was like a father to Vakama. His death was sad on the most levels of any Bionicle character, because you know Lhikan gave it all and he won't return after this. Because it's time for Vakama, the once self-doubting and anxious Matoran, to lead his fellow Toa. But it took such a sacrifice to get there. Toa Lhikan was no victor or some Toa of Light level of legend. But he was exactly what the Toa needed, what Vakama needed.
