@@87583 To be honest, I've been out of the loop of Bionicle for a long while, and today I decided to see if he had more videos about Vezon's adventures. But it's sad to now learn he's gone. At 28, no less.
Damn! That... is actually a really good point. The Elda is practically useless for anything else... but without it, both Jovan and Jaller's Toa teams would have been doomed to never find the Mask of Life.
@@krakenito5248 It's largely implied that the only reason she could see Matoro's spirit while he was outside his body was because of a weird side effect of her mask rather than an ability unto itself. Since it detects the mask of life, it seems she has some type of direct life sensing ability.
Useful in the bottom-of-the-sea setting it was in? Something you're looking for down there, Dr. Bright? Or is that information redacted and I need amnestics?
Granted, some of these masks could be very useful if used alongside another since Toa usually started off as a team. Like, the Mask of Clairvoyant and Mask of Possibilities could be used together to find that one possible outcome out of millions like Doctor Strange. Or the Mask of Summoning alongside the Mask of Mind Control or Mask of Charisma to have the summoned creature at your side.
That would be interesting to see! Kind of like how the Toa would combine their elements to make glass tornados or thunder storms, but with mask powers!
I don't really agree with judging masks based on the existence of other masks. Like the Miru is still good, just that the Kadin is better in most situations. You don't get to choose what mask you get sometimes. And if we are judging it based on that, the Elda should've been on the list. It's basically the Rode without the lie detector, and gives you a headache on the southern continent.
Obviously, you don't get to choose what mask you get but my idea was based off of a conveyor belt of Kanohi masks and you have every single one ever created in front of you and you have to smash the 10 that aren't worth it to even use.
@@TheShadowedOne1 Going by this criteria it'd make sense to get rid of duplicate powers. And I suppose the Elda gets by because it is the most useful mask if when Ignika is needed (which is twice in the entire existence of the MU). I'd still argue this isn't the best way to judge the masks but I digress. I do have to question where is the Mask of Undeath in all this.
@@TheShadowedOne1 By that logic, the Ignika should be on the list. Cant even wear it without mutating horribly or dying...unless you are Mata Nui or the masks construct body, you are pretty much not worth ever using that mask.
I sort of thought the Mask of Undeath would be in the list (Reanimates user into powerless, near mindless zombie after being deceased) The Ignika is also kind of weird, beyond something for the sake of mata-nui's life, it can't really be used in combat or willingly utilized by any user (including mata-nui) unless the mask wants to, and most other beings who wore it disintegrate
Well to be fair the Ignika isn't supposed to be a tool for a lowly MU being, it pretty much only exists to be Mata Nui's defibrillator. The fact it even does other shit good or bad is kind of going beyond the call of duty
Honestly, I kinda wish you took a bit of time to go into more detail about how each mask has been used in their scenarios. That being said, the Kanohi Ruru really is a terrible mask! It'd be nice if it was like night-vision goggles! Of course, why did Whenua have the ability of X-Ray vision, when that ability was designated to the Kanohi Akaku, Mask of X-Ray Vision? Of course, the Akaku was also called the Mask of Vision, so could the Akaku have night vision, heat vision, etc.? Questions, questions, questions...
I didn't expected to see my Toa Cordak used in a video, especially from an old hand of the Bionicle community. Thank you. This list is interesting, and after studying the subject myself before, I came to the same conclusion for the miru, the mask of clairvoyance, the ruru, the zatth and the vahi (which is an extremely frustrating case when you sees the possibilities that offers a true time control in other media such as Jojo's bizarre adventure with The World). However, for the other, I think that other interpretation can be established. Water breathing, even for a limited period, can stay usefull depending on the environement, same for the Arthron. For the jutlin, make your oponent rust when most of them are cyborgs is more than cheated in my opinion, and if the delay of action is described as slower than fragmentation or disintegration, the precise delay is not clearly established, so it can be assumed that is still acceptable. But wathever, in any case, it will probably never be established, so both case are possible. For the mask of possibilities, I understand your statement, but on paper, affect probabilities is literally playing with chaos, so I think it can be very powerful in the hand of a good user. The mask of Charisma has limited application, but with a good tactic, it can be a powerfull weapon as well. I think that other mask such as the mask of psychometry which serves only for investigation and is limited to inorganic material, the rau that only serves for translation of some rare languages , the elda that is even described as a rare kanohi because of its niche purpose, and the mask of undeath, that is useless before your death, could have been honorable mentions.
I'm actually surprised the Mask of Undeath isn't on here. It only resurrects you to complete your last goal before dying, with the life force in the mask expiring afterwards. It's otherwise useless, and there is the chance of having others finish what you started without having your zombified corpse do it for you.
I'll say the mask of clairvoyance can be useful. you could get rich by betting on kohlii matches if you see their results^^ also the mask of charisma is kinda strong because it is basically mind control under the illusion of free will (or so I've heard). and the kaukau is one of my favourite underrated masks, well the kaukau nuva is. because by sharing the ability with your nearby enemy you can suffocate them because they lose the ability to breathe air^^ forget about toa code, we've seen gali risk killing everybody with a nova blast. if shit hits the fan she would probably be fine with doing this.
I mean, the Vahi would be very useful if you can use it properly. Being able to speed or slow time in a specific area would certainly have advantages, like slowing down an enemy or speeding up a process that would usually take a long time. The main reason Vakama probably couldn't use it properly is because he was still somewhat of a rookie Toa who hadn't even figured out how to use his own mask power yet.
There's kind of one problem with over half of these Kanohi. Aren't most of these masks designed for exploration and not combat? Possibility, Clairvoyance, and Charisma are absolutely worthless, and Summoning is too random to be of any use. But the Kanohi Vahi absolutely annihilated the Bohrak-Kal by making time become so slow that the power built up beyond their control, or become so fast that they couldn't stop it before it backfired spectacularly in their face.
That wasn't the mask. The toa fed their elemental power into the nuva cube and in turn made the Bohrok Kal's powers go haywire as they were empowering themselves though it. All the Vahi did was give the toa a moment to think.
This is shockingly short. It's a shame that some of my favorite masks are on this list, including Jaller's Samurai Kanohi mask, AKA Arthron. edit: I disagree with the Kaukau! Makes you a scuba diver without tanks and masks! Also, the Ruru wasn't executed that well in the movies. Personally, I saw it as less a flashlight and more night vision. Just my take on the two masks.
I wanted to make a short Top 10 for once but still do the same amount of crazy work that I usually do. Short videos, from my research, mean that people are more likely to actually watch it more often. Also these masks don't deserve more elaboration like Terrifying did.
@@TheShadowedOne1 They sure did deserve more elaboration! But I guess if you did that, then you'd have to remove them after realising that they're actually decent, and then you wouldn't have a top ten list anymore
On Legends of Metru Nui, the Mask of Night Vision was also used to see through a stadium floor to find the chamber with the Matoran capsules l, so technically it has the same powers as the mask of X-ray but with the added bonus of actually emitting light. Though with the ambiguous way X-ray actually works in fiction it could still be useless.
Gotta disagree with the choice of the Miru and the Mask of Charisma. Even if it's not as good as flight, Levitation is far from a useless power. As for the Mask of Charisma, did you actually read the description of it? It might as well be called the Mask of Mind Rape, and unlike the Mask of Mind Control, the effects are permanent if the mind is weak enough. On another note, quite a few of these Masks certainly have more uses than you're claiming, albeit they are fairly situational, but certainly not useless. Also, why wasn't the Mask of Undeath on this list? You literally have to die in order to actually use it, and even just wearing it drains your life force and effectively helps kill you.
The Khanoi Ruru (the toa metru design) is one of my favourite bionicle masks of all time, but damn is its abilities so pointless, for crying out loud we have street lights to do it’s job…
@@TheShadowedOne1 Dare I say, the Faxon is pretty underrated. In fact, it’s the mask of my moc build character Aguo (the first unofficial male Toa of Water)
Personally just because the mask of time requires extreme willpower doesn't mean it's useless. Teridax's entire 1st plan hinged on using the Vahi to accelerate the brain washing of the Matoran. I mean just imagine if you were able to control it, sure you can't time travel but you could also make every single fight you're in play out like a quicksilver montage.
The mask of charisma should've been the mask of mind control or maybe a different power we've never seen before like mental blasts (telepathically sends a blast of energy enough to mentally stun an opponent for a short time, you have to be near someone or next to someone for it to work) or maybe splitting your soul into two halves (one half is still in your body but the other half is in an opponent, but the mask can only work if both halves think the same thing).
Signature Kanohi Hau is not also perfect: it protects you, but only when you are aware of attack, so ambushes and mental attacks (what evil masterminds and their minions mostly do) are out of options. Also rest in peace Nathan Paisie, aka TheShadowedOne1.
Surprised Kraahkan didn't appear. Mask of Shadows which brings no greater Shadows power to Makuta and attacks any other species makes it absolutely useless, unless we count the ability to "see all those little shadows in others"
in defence of the 7, if the user know the events of the future, but its unable (or dont want) to do something to change it... that is not a problem of the mask, thats up tu him,
I thought the Kanohi Ruru also lets you use some sort of X-ray vision, at least that's what it seemed like in one scene in the movie where Whenua spotted to captured Matoran in the ground underneath them
I believe that the mask of life changed their powers for the plot and the terrain theyre going into. I havent got to the mahri arc in the books just yet(but isaw duckbricks recap), but i cant realy imagine nuparus mask of flight, or jallers mask of physical abilities to be very useful that deep in the ocean. On the other hand, their new masks also dont seem THAT good.
@@ericschuller908 The mask is basically a Star Trek Universal translator (both written and spoken languages), it is insanely useful not just on a daily basis but in establishing better interactions and cooperation between cultures, worlds, nations, people (and even freaking animals). However, Bionicle underplayed its usefulness cause, despite how fans overhype the lore, the Mata Nui Universe (and the surrounding Bara, Aqua, Bota Magna) is not that complex when it comes to different cultures. People are somehow able to interact with each other with no issue. This is mostly a problem of the story writers not putting much thought about this aspect of worldbuilding and less about the mask. It would be insanely useful outside of the current bubble of Spherus Magna star system if they ever interacted with actual extra terrestrials and the line actually cared about different cultures being a thing.
@@ericschuller908 mask of undeath for me. All it does is take some of your life force and use it to temporarily resurrect you after you die, but only so you can complete your last goal before dying
The Kanohi Kaukau is particularly bad, because in the Bionicle board game from 2001, the game literally swaps out its function to become similar to the Kanohi Kakama.
I'm surprised that the mask of life isn't on the list, not only that it iss sentient, but even touching the mask gives you a curse, and having the power of life, it gave more death and insanity, only even if you're able to wear it, it's a one time used killing the user, yeah it has a greater purpose but it's more trouble than helpful
The first seven are situationally useful, in spite of their limitedness, even if we only saw limited use of their abilities. The final three, I fully agree, they are dumb.
I think Kongu's reaction to the fact that he wasn't given the Mask of Flight. Though I wonder if there's a technicality that makes Levitation more useful in certain situations.
@@Bionickpunk Even then, most Akakus have eyepieces built into them, something that is useful in its own right. Yeah, the mask ability is more specialized, but I also see it with the comparison between the Huna and the Volitak: one has two unique abilities, while the other specializes in one of those with some different advantages to go with it
That might be the next one I do but I'll make it longer if that's what people would want. Shorter videos are normally more appealing than a longer 12 minute one.
yeah.... Lewa and Kongu both got fucking cheated. wtf. also rip i feel like the mask of possibles was poorly used i think it makes sense for the vahi to be tricky to use number 1 should be see in the dark, not flashlight
