Curious, based on this vid I went to watch a vid with 2 Korean female archers competing with one another and counted seconds as they moved, I observed the following - at the count of A-1-2-3-4-5-6 - A _(when the bow starts being raised)_ - 1 _(bow hits its high point and starts being lowered towards the chin)_ - 2 _(full draw at chin achieved)_ - 3 _(pause/or perhaps a moment of affirmation of target acquired)_ - 4,5,6 _(release)_ ... and this pretty much repeated over and again every round. So, I concluded it's most likely that Koreans have enough knowledge of archery to come up with a highly efficient methodology to dominate the world in this area. \o/

It isn't just less work it is also the amount of tension that the body produces. The most important aspect of a shot is rhythm.

It felt really wild at first because I’m usually holding much longer at true full draw and into expansion. The focus on staying in motion and no static holding made all the difference. I shot a handful of 50m practice ends and was scoring just as well (or bad 😂) as I usually do but with probably HALF the time from set to follow through.. even with double bow roll drill at the end of the sequence. So much, much less, total TUT. I still had to be careful (need more practice) at positively aligning string/anchor when I’m speeding things up just a bit like this. And not to hurry AFTER the release/follow through; still have a good, strong, into the target follow through. Another plus: I became hyper aware of long holds. Anything over 5 seconds at full draw and it didn’t “feel” right. Then i shot too long and it got too windy and nothing could save me as I kept losing core connection and struggled with back alignment. Blank bailed that for the fix and then hung it up for the day!

Absolutely agree. Timing is incredibly important. With my athlete I go much deeper details in the subject.

Great vide Ashe ,, as a follower of Korean archery I have long seen their "faster" shot cycle and their consistency . Good analysis ans yes it sure is less work .. under stress my timing slows and boy does the fatigue kick in 4 of the way through a comp!

"Time under tension" to me is the period from when my wife arrives home until she falls asleep.

Hi my friend, excellent video once again. I want to ask example of the 400 arrows I shoot a week, should I devote 60 arrows to fast timed shots at close range?

I won't counter your argument but Coach Kim, H.T. at the Chula Vista OTC (US) claimed that they wanted their archers to shoot quickly because of the mental game. If you give yourself more time, you are allowing your mind more time to generate extraneous thoughts. By shooting quickly, there is less time for pressure to be felt.

How can I measure the timing in the best way? It is hard to count it in my mind and shoot the arrow properly.

Hi, do you use the ksl techniques?

Data speaks for itself. Quick shooting is definitely a form of target panic for trad/barebow archers where they do not achieve the full draw and fail to anchor. Quite different for Olympic archers so not a direct comparison. Don't know how target panic manifests for Olympic archers with clicker and sight pin. Expect the variation in release (timing) will be huge for them. Coming through clicker too soon or holding and failing to expand and not coming through clicker variably while focussing on sight pin. So in this case such a tight variation in shot repetition is actually good... I guess...

Great vid. Can you investigate Koreans use of bio feedback devices? They use electronic sensors to indicate highest mental stress & lowest stress.

Korean archers honestly are just better at everything lol. Timing, release, form, and even strength conditioning - I've never seen an elbow or any sort of shake in any Korean archer, where pretty much every other country even in the finals many have at least a tiny shake in their bow elbow or something, also causing them to hold longer because they don't have the strength to shoot consistently.

Faster shooting also means you can shoot in between wind gusts and still end within 4 minutes.
