Not watched this channel for a while as was getting bored seeing the same brands of bike,so nice to see a Giant on the channel. Would love to see some of the cheaper Giant bikes on here in the future,as they offer great value for money.
@@stevejones7956 We would love for you to come out and take on the SoCal mountains! You can go for days from a beach to a desert and everything in between!
Great to see EMBN get with the program and finally acknowledge the Reign E, like some others I was getting bored of seeing one after another Specialized review. Well done Steve having a crack at the EWS-E we can only imagine the pain of it. Hoping to see the unit numbers of the new model increase as at the moment they are as rare as rocking horse sh*t. Cant wait til they land in Oz. Keep up the good work.
Made the mistake of having my first ever go on an ebike today, gotta go find 5 grand now ffs. Edit: it's happened, giant reign 2022 ordered, can't wait.
The Giant shop by me closed for good 6 months ago because they can't get any bikes ! It would be nice to see a video talking to some bike CEOs on when and if bikes will be back at shops for test rides and available for purchase
I own a 2020 E Pro 2 and waiting for the new mullet version. Giant bikes are a great value and are built well. I’ve had no! Issues in 2 seasons of running it hard in the mountains of Lake Tahoe except issues I caused. I have no problems keeping up with my buddies on way more expensive bikes and even they commented how confident they felt on tough downhill tracks at Northstar bike park. Don’t be fooled by the hype most of us wouldn’t see a big difference in their riding from one bike to the next and it’s not worth the increased cost IMO.
@@chickenclips True but inflation is going to effect all bikes electric or not. It’s still a great value if you can afford getting into the E bike category.
Just ordered the 2023 Reign E+3 with a saving of $1,400. Regular price was $6,699 CND and got it for $5,300 CND. I hope all the great reviews are correct. The 2023 has a 800 kw/h battery which should have plenty of range. Can't wait
Tempted to upgrade from my 2021 trance E pro, but not sure its worth the extra £3.5k to do it. That would buy me some nice kit for the bike I already have. Great to see a feature on Giant, nice one lads
I too have a 2021 trance e+1pro s with the 625wh battery I have upgraded some parts of it so wont be upgrading to this as apart from the huge cost and inevitable wait for it the trance is pretty capable once you get it dialled in.🙂👍🏴
@@jamespaterson6550 yup, trance is a superb bike. Even if I bought the reign I’d still want wireless shifting and dropper so may as well fit these to mine. The only bummer is that the 2022 motor control built into the grip is not compatible with our models (according to giant uk) which is a really nice improvement I think
I think when e-bikes become slightly lighter, less bulky and with a gearbox and better integrated screens and controls ... then we will have much better and more capable bikes. I don't think it's too far away but not everything can afford a bike near 10k so it's a matter of waiting for the improvements to drip down onto the 5/6k bikes. Maybe in a few years.
I still like having the full display on my Bosch equipped Cannondale Habit 4, it's nice to know distance and battery percentage at a glance. Plus I can change power output without taking my left hand off of the bar. That Giant is a beautiful machine though, love it.
Hi steve , i have just received my reign e0 after belonging a trance e0 2020. Did you use the automatic mode? If not , do you temember what settings you used [ all full?)
After watching this I changed my mind from 2022 specialzed levo turb comp alloy priced 6750 the giant is 7500. i was lucky i found one and got a great deal off the bikeshop at moreton.
My charger stop to 60% while I dont put the60% charging mode on my reign e+2022, thats a big problem when you want to go and the battery is only 60%... Have you heard about this problem ? Thanks Ps : its works fine when I charge the battery off the bike..
10:03 Steve, this cable coming out of the GoPro is the external power supply of the camera? If so, say something more about it, because I am in the process of looking for a good solution that will allow me to record whole several-hour trips.
29er in the rear ? Hi, great review. Helped me lot in my decision to settle for this ebike. Do you think it is possible to put a 29er in the rear ? Having the intention to try it out in the next weeks.
@@tallpaul9848 Hi Paul, thanks for the answer. I ordered a Schwalbe Big Betty in 2.8 for the rear to slightly raise the BB. Seen it on a you tube video from RG E MTB.
@@deneiga Interesting. I went and looked at that video and unfortunately I only speak English. I saw on his Reign e he has an Eddy Current in the back. Did he say that Big Betty is better and provides more clearance?
@@tallpaul9848 He said nothing about the Big Betty. He went straight for the Eddy Current that seems a bit overkill for my trails. Expecting a better rolling capacity from the Big Betty. That's why my choice.
Yeah hoping that these new Giant ebikes 2022 are affordable. I'm a really a Trek guy but Trek really nickel dimes their bikes to death unless you drop the big money. Most likely going to get the the Giant e plus.
Does anyone else have problems with motor overheating. I heared this is common issue with new syncdrive pro motor and you can find a lot off sad owners on the internet. I have giant reign e+2 2022 and I weight 77 kg and have problems with overheating and motor automaticly shift down modes from 5 to 4 or 3. Outside temp was only 20 deg celcius. Thanks for honest comments. I hope anyone has a solution for this issue.
Just the other day my local bike shop owner mentioned the new reign motors are having these types of issues. Design flaw. I have a 2020 Giant reign with the old Yamaha motor and I've never had an overheating issue.
Controller integrated into the grip i.e. designed by someone who doesn't understand mountain bikers. Most people who are serious about mountain biking will put their preferred grips on the bike. I hope it can be detached from the grip easily....
Funny there's nobody commenting on the cracks at the bottom of the downtube which are either(and/or) "frame/filler/paint" and are really common....probably why they are now massively discounted from £6k to £3.5k....
Great review! I’m enjoying the giant bikes but always hated the ball sack of the motor hanging low. This Reign looks great. And sounds like it performs awesome as well. Too bad I just bought my Trance X.
@@smc2811 true. However in Canada the Trance x 2 vs the reign 2 is only a few hundred dollars different. The cheapest Trance (the 3) is 1100 different from the cheapest Reign (the 2). So quite comparable.
Here's my question, I currently have a deposit on a reign E+2 (late December delivery) and a 2022 trek rail 9 (mid November delivery). I cannot get a higher spec reign before at least march, ie after the Australian summer which I have 2 months of holiday over. What should I do? Giant or trek?
@@curtrichardson8002 Would love to see if you could review that R17C. We are starved for new content and different types of bikes. L am not the only one tired of seeing the big brands only get the spotlight.
@@stevejones7956 Just seen your ...Research And Development Behind The 2022 Giant Reign E+ , much more informative. Kudos for riding the EWE =- E race.
It’s sad how all channels these days just regurgitate and spew the bullshit marketing that companies put out. Sad state of affairs. Nobody can think for themselves anymore.
Dont buy this bike. Electric probles rear hub exploded droper is crap. More time in the shop then on the trail 230km. Worst buy ever. I hate it so much!!🤬
Hmmm, I’ve have a 2020 E Reign 2 and run it hard in the mountains of Lake Tahoe with no problems. I love the bike no mechanical issues except the ones I caused. I felt confident the moment I started riding it. I’m waiting for the new mullet Pro 2 in a smaller size to come in. The upgrades, new shorter chain stays bigger battery and new warranty are more than worth the $1000 and I can get what I paid for my old bike. My snobby friends paid way more for the cool bikes but got no noticeable boost in performance I have 2 friends that got Giant E Trance bikes and spent the extra money on coaching. Guess who’s performing better on their new bikes. Value and performance are what Giant offers being “cool” is overrated on the trails.
@@powertapping sorry but all people I know who have had them have had so many problems dangerous too as also the bike look fat and ugly down tubes they must be the the least sold in the uk and customer support absolutely appalling with months of turnaround. I had a giant trance advanced pro mtb and that was amazing shame thry can’t do the same with there ebikes
My 2019 Trance SX E1 Pro hasn't skipped a beat after 3000kms of technical single track. Still on oem components...no motor or battery issues...but could use a new rear tire soon. Maybe mine was assembled on a Wednesday 🤷♂️...
@@robg3836 I've had one occasion of water ingress in a Scottish downpour - but 10 mins later the sun came out and dried it out, and bit of Sugro means it'll never happen again. Every brand has their weakness. As for service - couldn't ask for better - recently, the charger locked out the battery - both it and and the charger were replaced free of charge without any hassle the following day from my local Giant store where I'd bought the bike. Apparently its a known, very rare problem with the charger. Yes, the looks are subjective, but I like it.
