All I can remember is when I started, I was using persimmon Woods and sorely miss them. If I could get some brand new ones made I would buy some even now. Small heads with a lovely sound which were great off the deck.

I had one of these back in the day for a year plus and loved it, I also loved the ( crack ) at impact, it let everyone within a mile know that it had been thumped hard. The one I had was maybe a tour model because it was ( as I remember ) 2 degrees open which was great because I was fighting the lefts.

I remember having the Hibore XL Tour in college with a diamana whiteboard in it. Sounded terrible, but it was a bomber. The tour head was like 4 degrees open as well, so the 9 degree head played like a 7 degree and didn't spin like the standard head did.

I got mine as a hand-me-down from a more well-to-do friend, back around 10 years ago, and I still use it. No screws, no weights, no nuthin’. I love it. That odd flattened crown really works to lower the CG. TING!

I used that driver for a day (which thank God I bought dirt cheap and was returnable). The almost concave top produced a focused beam of ear piercing sound that appeared to be aimed at the left ear (for RH players). I literally felt like someone exploded a fire cracker a couple of feet from my left ear. The sound wasn't nearly as bad at the right ear. Hit it one day on the range and then back to the seller it went.

Great vid Simon. I didn't think it sounded too bad but maybe it doesn't come up in the video. Think this would be a great driver for me. I'm a beginner but I have a fairly high club head speed and I'm gaming a 10 yr old slazenger reg flex driver that came in a package set. Think that head with the stiff shaft would do me a world of good. Congrats to the last winner aswell :-)

When I emigrated in 2008, the airline lost my clubs including the Cleveland HiBore XL which was the best club in my bag and helped me bring my handicap down to about 10. I bought new clubs with the insurance money but never played as well with them. Today I helped my father in law and noticed his old unused Cleveland HiBore XL 11.5 degree in the garage gathering dust. I've now inherited it and hope to test whether its as good as I remember or whether my Callaway Big Bertha is actually better. I have such good memories about this club... I'm really hoping it goes well or I will question all my memories..!

I'd love to win this driver! This was my first driver too, but mine was the "super loft" version that I gained from a cheap set of 2nd hand clubs from facebay.. I gave it to my brother when I upgraded and he's been using it ever since. It was great when he started but now hes loosing distance and hitting very high for a driver so if I won i'd give him this lower lofted version, hopefully improve his game.

I picked one of these up for $40 as a total beginner. Noise doesn't bother me too much (other golfers at a range, though, might mind a little), but this really makes me look forward to giving it some whacks. As you can build clubs easily, would you try adding some yarn/cotton balls to it to see if it can be muted a bit for cheaply?

Hi Simon. Great, honest video as always. Have to disagree that it's the worst sounding driver tho. Try to get hold of a Dunlop XPT Titanium driver. It's a sports direct product so is predictably shite, but it is the loudest thing I've ever heard - and it's not a good sound either. I have one, and every time I take it to the driving range, people turn and stare. It's embarrassingly loud!!
