Is this thermal device worth 5000€? | TILO-3Z+ 

Can a Thermal vision be useful in airsoft? I was asking myself this question for a while now, so I decided to test it with Josef. The TILO-3Z+ itself is small, easy to handle and you can see pretty well even in the pitch dark. The results were quite surprising. Would you guys use something like this in a game? My guess is that with the sun there wasn’t enough difference in Temperature. Try it on a colder day again. Rain and fog are also bad for visibility.

Novritsch clearly has no experience with this kind of equipment. I own Leupold LTO Tracker HD and I can see that the video pointed common myths about thermal kind equipment. First of all, it is designed to use in low visibility conditions like fog, rain, night. Second, the thermal scope is easily disrupted by gloss paint on the wall or glass of the window - so it is better to use it outdoor and know what kind of surfaces can disrupt your vision and in what way. And third, constant practice of detection and observation gives you the ability to quickly distinguish person posture in the woods. if you learn those things you will be able to detect enemies from 100+ meters in different environments. The most important thing is to remember that this is a different kind of equipment than night vision and have different prons and cons.

That thing would be awesome to use during a mil sim.

Let me explain why pouring water on the fire didn't do much of a difference. It's because even if you put the fire out the stuff is still hot. That's one of the reasons why firefighters still continue to spray an area, even after they put the flames out to prevent it from lighting up again. It's not like you're gonna pour 5 degree water on a fucking 700+ degree object and then it magically goes from 700 to 5 in 1 second. You have to continuously cool it down. @NOVRITSCH

4:20 Thermal vission is better for spotting well camoflauged hostiles, so in airsoft it is pretty useless against regular combatants but is very effective against enemy snipers.

When does a game not become a game? When one side has so much advantage it offsets the balance of the event, and the other side has no enjoyment from the event. Thermal vision is definitely useful, but in gaming considerations it does need to be balanced out between each side. I ran an overnight event with 20 on 20, which was based on the idea of night raids and defensive positions, with combined arms. The rules were simple around NVGs; if you had NVGs you can use it but it has to be disclosed to the DS's. One team brought 3 thermal vision devices without informing the DS, while the other team only had one NVG unit. So as soon as the team with the thermal vision settled onto a defensive position, they had detection in pitch black out to 600m range, while the other team had no such advantage. The other team tried to mount 3 raids, moving into position 3 times during the night, and mounting an assault with supporting vehicle fire support and extraction. They were detected 200m out, with the last attempt they managed to infiltrate inside the base, only to be shot. I was shot at as a DS as I tried to approach the base from 60m away, which was impossible as I knew even with the best of NVGs I was in dense foliage and using the undulating ground. Radios were down because rain absorbs UHF signals and drained batteries, so at the end of the night not only was it impossible to contact and reach the other DS parties, effectively one whole team had their morale destroyed. All because the thermal devices were stacked on one team. What was even more funny was that the team with the thermal vision tried to attack the other team and was repelled because they attacked without conducting recon and attacked from a heavily defended side with the moon highlighting the background. They thought the other team also had thermal vision, and hence justified them having 3 devices. It is a case of "Sum of all fears". So no, I think use of thermal vision needs to be policed and balanced in game.

I saw a difference with the fire test. it makes sence to me. Also you need to take into account the thermal of an object, those logs on the fire. you put the fire out.. yes, but the logs will still be hot from being IN the fire for so long.

Imagine using this in the night, your trying it out with your friends and you see another dude in the back.

I have used one of these while hunting. Alot of fun

The new ratnik gear has some kind of special fabric that makes it harder to see on thermals so if you could get your hands on some of that you could test it

It only has a digital zoom but thermal in that small package is very useful

The fave I saw was simply an RDS-sized device you mounted on any rails, 700€ ish, allegedly you'd turn it off and it was just a red dot. Cannot remember name or nothing of course.

Try using it to look through dense/thick smoke, this should distort the thermal vision

if you drill a hole that is smaller than an actual bb on acryllic or similar glass you can still have it working.. but it might come whits some limitations

You can use in in the tunnels on that map you 1v1 silo, also to protect it lift it up when your not using it

as you can see his ears in video after entering the ice cold water stayed darker than rest of the body (torso) so let me tell you muscle tissue is better provided with blood vessels and thats what makes the difference. Just for those who wondered and like to look at detail. Have a nice day!

hey novritscg can u make a guide to transport air soft stuff have still some problems

most of the lens have a diamond like coating (DLC) on them to help with scratch resistance the lens itself would probably be a germanium glass and should look black they can not see through normal glass also don't point it at the sun good way to kill it. i use a pulsar handheld monocular and a GSCI wolfhound L4 on a rifle for pest control they can see a long way but judging distance can be hard and gets harder as the night wears on and the ground and plant start to get to the same temp but will make critters,rocks and tree stumps stand out

Would like to see the thermal mounted in front of a sniper scope if made possible, would be interesting to see how the camera works through a reticle, is it able to see through a smoke grenade?

it looks fantastic at night, but 5000 is pretty steep for a sleight upgrade over nvgs. would love to see it perform in a night game tho

Thermals cant see through glass so using this practically just for shooting at long range is not possible for that you would need a thermal scope

The thermal camera didnt show much change when novritch extinguished the fire because the wood is still hot

I´m using Leupolt LTO Tracker. Cost less ( 850€ - 1000€ ) or buy it from ebay to get it cheaper, and you can mount it on your gun. Works fine for me. Using it in 24h paintball events. A guy on FB prints adjustable mount for this --> 3DBAT + protection for the lense.

I was thinking to buy ssg10 a1 but then i thinked can you change the long of the stock because if cant then its too long for me so does somebody know and i know that my english is bad

The night test was not really comparable, because you were on an open field. In the background you can see that the vegetation is still "warm". So they should've tested in a frorest again
