I'd really like to speak with you if you have time. Or if you have somewhere where I can talk to you with others? I'm a broke bastard so I can't really become a patron but. I got I feeling that you will like some of the noises I can make. I don't know if others have approached you this way but. I've been doing harsh vocals since I was 14. I'm 25 now. I literally just want to show you some shit. If I have to do a lessons format I'd love to know where I can learn more. But I really just want to see what you think of my current talent. But I'd be willing to spend cash. Let me know dude.
@@nicksouza3405 Yo! Anyone can toss me anything anytime! Now, it can take me a while to respond since I have to prioritize my active students and patrons, but there's no restrictions on tossing me an email!
@@KardavoxAcademy ok. I'll see what I can do. If I can't do an email for whatever reason.(I'm sure I can figure it out) I'll literally make a RU-vid channel and say who I am in the vid and link it to you. Either way I look forward to seeing what comes of this. Never took any lessons. Besides watching your reaction content and picking up in things here and there that you explain. You definitely helped me scream safer that's for sure. You and the guy from tallah. Both of ya are good at explaining the safe methods. Anyway thanks for reaching out.
I had a small laugh when Mark said “this is the part everyone is going to want to talk about” for the first breakdown and thought to myself “he has no idea what’s coming”
A friend had something similar with "To the Hellfire". He stopped the song before the last breakdown and I yelled "keep listening, you flat head!". He was blown away later on 😂
@@justinkendell301 Even more ridiculous how clean he is live. Also I've never seen anybody that looks like they were about to fall asleep playing drums, let alone at the speeds on tracks like this and Sun//Eater.
Lorna is embracing the meme. Every new song has a new crazy Will section, and I swear to baphomet that the next song is going to open with a breakdown lmao
Nope. Nothing can be too heavy imo, it can only get too sloppy. These guys are pretty masterful in their execution. Also the breakdowns should be obscenely heavy.
My favorite part of your channel is how you always, always give live examples of what you're talking about--it makes such a difference to hear someone do the sounds in real time and not just describe them.
Yeah Will's vocals are *extremely* constricted in lows, gutturals and highs. The throat video confirmed that. It's a miracle that, as it seems, the weird torsion stuff he does with his larynx seems to prevent any damage from occurring. Insane sound though.
I’m not even a vocalist, nor have I practiced my metal vocals in a really long time. I just really enjoy your channel/reactions for how much educational info you provide.
Hey Mark, I dont know s..t about singing and stuff, but seeing you smile and enjoying to talk about it and appriciateing every artist sends just good vibes and makes you really likable. Thanks for that.
Lorna Shore is hands down my favorite Death metal band. And My favorite metal vocalist is Will Ramos. From the talent to the pure technicality this dude has brought to the genre Its frkn phenomenal and other artists are pushing harder to bring their A game now. it is so fkn cool to see.
Is that a D&D map set up on the table? Also, I really want to say, I checked out the new Kardashev album, and it's amazing. I'm really digging it. Best of luck to you guys ❤
the fact that will doesn't use that many vocal tracks is fucking insane. I'm guessing he does double tracked vocal lines and occasionally will add an extra layer with a different style of scream to accent some parts. Certainly helps make live tracks sound really close to the studio recording though
Yourself and Charismatic are literally shaping the new wave of extreme metal vocalists and god damnit I am here for it! I love how much I learn about my voice and the voice itself from you dude! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
You should do a co-reaction with: -*Alex Teyen* of *Black Tongue* to their song *Coma* -*Darius Tehrani* of *Spite* to their song *Kill or be killed* -*Guillaume Villeneuve* of *Beyond Deviation* to their song *White Noise* or *10,000* -*Florent Salfati* of *LANDMVRKS* to their song *Lost in a Wave* -*Josh Davies* of *Monasteries* to their song *Force Fed Apathy* or *Digital Suicide* -*Austin Dickey* of *For the Likes of You* to their song *Forlorn* or *Rot with Me* -*Dane Evans* of *To the Grave* to their song *Wastage* -*Devin Duarte* of *Worm Shepherd* to their song *Ov Sword and Nail* -*Travis Ryan* of *Cattle Decapitation* to any of their songs You should do a reaction/analysis video on: -*Tactosa* - *Augured In* -*Babirusa* - *Desolation System* -*The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza* - *The Alpha: The Omega* -*Suicide Silence* - *No Pity for a Coward* -*Parkway Drive* - *Boneyards*
If you had Will's Patreon, I'd suggest doing a reaction to his versions of their older album! Particularly Death Portrait as he does some crazy vocals in that song.
They’re fine but compared to CJ’s original version, it’s nothing. Lacks substance and low sounds like their staining him, as CJ just has those powerful lows.
it would be kind of fun to hear you talk about bands with dangerous vocal techniques like see you next tuesday or old avenged sevenfold. would also love to hear what you have to say about really shrill vocals like destroyer destroyer or a sawtooth grin. anyways, good insight as always sir.
@@sommelierofstench I hadn't heard of either one, so I just listened to a couple songs. Damn that stuff takes me back to bands like Orchid and Reversal of Man. I haven't quite decided if that's a good thing yet though 😁
He has talked about dangerous vocals during his reaction to LED by Tallah (with their vocalist Justin Bonitz). It's a crazy song, so perhaps youll like the debate about it
Not sure if you've seen it yet, but the Will Ramos and Nik Nokturnal cover of Chelsea Grin's Recreant gives an excellent view of what Will is doing with his mouth shapes and tongue placement for these awesome sounds. It would be pretty cool to get your take on that 🙂
This was without a doubt my favorite video of yours, from the subject matter to the topics discussed - I found myself talking to my screen several times going "YES, EXACTLY OMG" lol
That second to last tone that you said sounded weird is actually Will doing a closed mouth. If you watch his one take vocal play through he is doing clothed mouths at that part. It's insane.
That second to last tone that he does sounds like he's closing his mouth and forcing all the sound out of his nose. Never heard another vocalist do that before!
Mate I love that you mentioned Alex Teyen. I met him 2 years ago in Bournemouth, Dorset and when I greeted him he gave me the biggest bear hug I ever had. It was wonderful.
the video gave me infant annihilator vibes at time. Though with how insane vocals are, would it be possible to just get a break down of some of the vocalists who founded what would become what we have now in Deathcore?
Speaking of TOO heavy Did you listen to Nitheful's last single - Sacramentum ov Filicide? I was blown away with sounds Derrek can produce with his mouth It would be lovely if you did a video about this track
Hey, just fyi, that second to last tone is (I say is, but that's how I make it) a closed mouth tunnel (mid-high fry as I do it) with A LOT of nasality. Weird to get a hang of, but a blast to add texture to tracks!
8:36 is some of the most important advice you can have for any instrument. I’m an electronic musician but I spent years learning what I could do within the restraints of synths or trackers before I really fleshed out the cool sounds I wanted to make inside those boundaries
Liminal rite is so different and so good. Reminds me of another band. Slice the cake. Seriously. Check them out. Clean vocals are amazing. All his vocals are amazing and so is the rest of the band. And they tell a epic. Sooooo underrated. Please amplify them.
Dude literally the first thing that I thought of when I saw Will under the scope was that we cannot see what is happening underneath where the camera cannot go. And it really made me realize that even though we have seen a lot of what is happening at the surface of the throat we still don't in now what is happening beneath. As a voc as list that is somewhat a unicorn in his own right I often wonder how it is I get so low and it feels like something is ingaging below that stuff. Also as I bit off a more nasty side note: I found out from dry heaving involuntary that something activates and causes a rattle that is very much sustainable..... I'm not sure what I did this. But I really analysed the physics behind that Involuntary movement and it felt like something that barely ever moves. And it created a rattle, flutter and timber that was very unique. If I can figure out how to take that shit I will for sure comment.
As pretentious and egotistical as it may sound. I can do things rather easily when it comes to harsh vocals. And I am no stranger nor am I afraid to put my own stank and funk on it. And I am pretty confident that I have at least one or two noises people haven't heard yet. Or at least have not incorporated fully into music. I guess if I was to say it in dumb terms I can get almost as low as Alex terrible and give it the "power" everyone loves and I have old shrine of malice highs. Of course I try to be an animal with zombie/tunnel techniques. I love the voice, from voice acting to singing to screaming to inhaling to tuvan throat. To beat boxing. I love it. I would say I'm a unicorn
the biggest take away from the breakdown Is during his Camera down the throat he used a technique where he does a low scream and its super nasally and I thought, that's sick, I've never heard that before. He does it real quick in the breakdown. prob my fav tone. at 16:19
Last guturals sounds like Dickie Allen showed you the technique with closing nose and make resonance with it. He said it sounds like moving stones or stone gates )
I think you missed out on the closed mouth shape. That was the second last vocal style, and he did it at least one more time in the middle of the song. I don’t believe it’s multiple tracks, since he can make the same sound live
if im not mistaken that last part and there is a part at the beginning will did a closed mouth guttural. I wouldve had no idea but when he did them in the charismatic voice video i recognized the sound. He doesnt have any annunciation like he has in his usual vocals. Normally you can hear some kind of mouth position change for words. But at those parts you dont hear that at all and it sounds way more trapped inside
Gotta check out Harper-Falling!!! A ten year old who appeared on America's Got Talent covering my Holly Roller! Also has been on stage with Spiritbox. This song features Chris Wiseman of Shadow of Intent!
First I saw the clip, I thought just an unstoppable youtube advertisement. But yeah, I'm very proud, that the clip made in Budapest, by a very talented Hungarian Director.
Actually Mark, ... I was curious on what you though about the really high scream/whistleesque tone at 3:20. It immediately reminded of the scream Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth) is known for, that almost choral but super hauntedly tone. It was layered in with a deeper scream and all the instruments at the point in the song its Fucking Intense... I was wondering what your thoughts on it were. It's definitely something I've never heard Will Ramos do yet. I was majorly impressed by this tune in comparison to the past few. Will is seriously growing and evolving as vocalist in such a quick yet interesting way. Honestly I believe a lot of the reason for that is his knowledge and respect for the art. And well also awesome guys like yourself out here making it a point to spread knowledge and correct ways of doing these types of vocal styles and how not to ruin your voice!. Mad respect brother! love your stuff man I have been a vocalist for a well over a decade involving screams and singing. Although Its been years since I've been in a band and all. I never stopped. I found Melissa Cross many-a years ago when she was the only one in the game. I have learned so much from watching your content Even in the past few months since i came across your channel. Keep it up dude Best, Scotty EXP
About your point of people saying a song is "just fry" or "just false cord": Absolutely agree, that it's insanely reductionist. I can do the "The Grudge" noise. That's literally "just fry". The things going on in this song are insane and talking about "oh he uses this or that technique" is so belittling that.
So I did enter the filename into google first, and would you look at that: first result IS the Lorna Shore website. I checked their shop though and did not find a field for any code. Also entering the code in the url did not provide any result other than 404 page not found. Great idea though, probably an opportunity missed! Thank you for the video and your detailed breakdown (pun intended) of the vocals!
I don’t claim to know much, but to me that weird second-to-last tone sounds like a low with a really tightly closed mouth, maybe only a few top front teeth showing, and he’s placing the resonance hypernasally; the distortion sounds like he’d either be feeling it right above his top front teeth, or right in his nostrils.
How come we don't have any Big Chocolate vids? If you never hear of him check em out. He was the vocalist for Disfiguring the Goddess and others. Dude was ahead of his time with his lows and gutturals like 15 years ago
Gone are the days of Ben Duerr doing 5 or 6 different vocal styles in one breakdown (The Heretic Prevails). Now these poor deathcore vocalists gotta compete with Will doing 15 styles in 5 seconds
I might be wrong but then again this might be the only time I can actually provide useful input. At the end I think he's using polytones and not multiple track layers, Dickie Allen and Derrek Connolly from Nitheful do them frequently. (I can too but I'm nobody)
So, to comment on the second to last tone of the breakdown, I've actually achieved that tone while screaming along to this song. Its kind of like an overtone. Whenever I attempt to take my scream lower than my lowest normal guttural, I get kind of this muted, grunting overtone that gives it that very strange dual tone sound. Its not something thats entirely intentional, all I do is a low false chord guttural, then try to force it lower. (I know "force" sounds bad, but theres no other way I can think of to describe it, don't force your larynx or constrict any harder, just try to make the sound lower and push a little more air with your diaphragm)
When it comes to great Vocalist in Metal, there is a suggestion for your great channel. Its my first ever comment on youtube and its for a reason. You are interestet in unique voices and great musical perfomances, aren`t you? Well...there is a band called Hamferð, which is from the Føroyar Island. They are a Metal-Band. Some say its Doom Metal what they are creating. But foremost its really great music with outstanding vocals by Jón Aldará (both growling and singing). You will be suprised...and so will be your community here on RU-vid. Espacially the live perfomances are worth a listen. The Song "Evst" is good song to start the Hamferð experience (the Live-Version from "Slay at home' during the Lockdown is fomidable. There is also an shorter unplugged Version of this Song online, which is huntingly beautiful). It would be great, if you give this band a try so that they get a little bit more attention in this world full of great music. Maybe there are some Hamferð fans out there, who can give my wish some support. Thank you very much for your great work.
oh I really hoped Mark would cover Will's gutturals at 16:18. to me it sounds like tunnely/nasaly low with a closed mouth. Similiar to the ones Dickie is doing (while closing his nostrils with his fingers). Well this is a good time to join your Discord :) Good content as always, Mark! ♥
