I think that Tudor nailed this watch. Tudor is probably the best brand out there right now from the standpoint of continuing to put great product out there year after year. This is a Snowflake Submariner as far as I am concerned.
Quick question... I've noticed nobody is talking about the bracelet on the gold BB58, it has no faux rivets!!! That in my opinion would make a stainless steel BB (in any size) perfect! Do you think Tudor is giving us a glimpse of what's coming in future iterations of the BB family? Thanks!
@@MikeRochacvery good point Mike. I think it is part a debut of some kind (just looking at how the BB Bronze debuted T-fit, the BB Ceramic debuted METAS, 2-lines on the dial) but also “cost cutting” eliminating the technicalities of having to create the rivet look with many extra parts 😉🥃
@@TommyRibsIt’s one thing I’m digging about Tudor year in, year out. Unlike virtually every other brand, they seem to drop something excellent every year and continue to do so 🔥
Absolutely Love this years new Black Bay Monochrome it’s clean and pops out, Love it! Just Brilliant For TUDOR !!!! ROLEX Learn a thing or too on your Sister brand!!!🤘🏻
Tudor seem to be filling the void that Rolex left when they decided to drop the “high quality professional watch” branding for “exotic status symbol” branding. The movement in this direction by Rolex must have been made at a corporate level some time ago, so it makes sense for them to want the sub brand (no pun intended), Tudor, to step into that void, starting with the original Black Bay and developing over time until we get the Tudor Submariner, without actually calling it a submariner so as not to dilute the status symbol factor for Rolex. It’s really clever marketing that has worked quite beautifully.
The passing of the baton seems clearer now than ever, right? Honestly I could have all the Pelagos’ and still not feel compelled to chase a Rolex Sub. I find the snowflake so much more interesting (and as a dive watch? Chefs kiss) Zero polish & reflection, lightweight etc etc - Tudor have opened up so many great avenues 🔥 Well said here Timothy!
Agree. But unfortunately they’ve alienated many with their loss of control over the distribution of their products (they could reign in the ‘out the backdoor’ sales in a heartbeat). So many will refuse to consider Tudor. Which is unfortunate since they are such great watches.
The thing that appeals about this watch to me is that it harkens back to the 90's subs. Modern day Rolex is much flashier. This gives you that more subdued 5-digit sub look with the added Tudor-isms, and with modern build quality. Absolutely stellar release in my opinion.
Something like 12 years since it launched, right? It’s crazy how one piece can gain so much popularity (and here I was thinking it would be all about the BB58 GMT) 😆🥃
I am seriously considering this as the watch to buy to celebrate one of those milestone birthdays. I don’t have a watch in my collection of this price and quality. It’s still between this and the Omega Seamaster M in white. With Tudor and Omega, they are accessible now. No games to be played, no waitlists. And while Rolex is one I would love to own one day, I feel that when you treat your customers as if you are doing them a favor, it’s is not an attitude I appreciate. I just found your channel about two weeks ago and love your content. Your voice is relaxing and commands attention and this video was far from disjointed.
Pretty much spot on Mr. I D. I have been a watch enthusiast since 1963 (when my parents bought a me my first watch; a Swiss made 'Commando Sport' for Christmas in Cleary's Department Store in Dublin. I was 13 years old. It cost about 2 Euros in today's equivalent money.Throughout the years since then, though never a collector, I have owned countless wrist watches, a couple of pocket watches and a few clocks. I've seen it all come and go, especially in the last 30 years. Most of it has been overblown overpriced and overdone hype. No doubt there has never been a better time than now to be a watch enthusiast; for many reasons. However, the bottom line is 'less is more'. I have had for example a Rolex Sub - 1976, an Explorer 1 (1016) late 70s. Omegas, Brietling, Longines, Eterna, IWC, Seiko, ..... most of them being tool watches, all gone now. I have seen the models I have owned being turned into 'icons' status symbols, biged up and blinged up, polished up, priced up and turned into jewellery - though with great movements. I am back, more or less where I started. I have a Tudor BB 54, A Tudor Ranger 39mm, though I would prefer a 36 mm version. A BB 36 mm, first edition with the ETS 2824 bullet proof movement. I have a Longines Heritage Silver Arrow, A Seiko Solar 38mm Divers, A Seiko 39mm Speedtimer Chronograph and a couple of genuine 1960s hand wound pieces. The rest you can keep ! Yes the Omega 1957 Seamster retro. from 2017 is grand but give me this new Tudor any day even though it is too big for mine and no doubt many other six and a half inch wrists. Keep it simple is best, followed by robust and reliable movements which do what a watch needs to do which is tell the time, with understated style and simplicity. Love your vids, they are concise, informed and honest, they have already outlived the countless UTube hypes of the last 10 or so years. Rock on man and give us an aul tune on your guitar now and again. Mile maith agat a chara ; many thanks my friend.
What a fantastic read this was Mick. Thank you sir! It means the most that these sorts of videos are appreciated for their brevity (and hopefully one good point that resonates) But to read your experiences, having owned the classics and resorting to simple pieces instead? I think it’s the same for so many enthusiasts. My late father loved his cars from Lotus Cortina’s and onwards but retired with a 2001 Audi S3. Nothing flashy but did it haul… thank you for this again Mick and have a super weekend! 🥃
I'm going to pickup my Tudor monochrome tomorrow, took with jubilee. Only right choice. That matte bezel against all the polished surfaces, absolutely perfect. Can't wait!
Just bought this watch yesterday, it is as solid as any Submariner and keeps time to the second. There is someting about this watch this draws the casual on lookers curiosity.
I own a pretty big collection but my two most worn watches (one on each wrist) are my Tudor Bb GMT and Omega prof Seamaster in blue with the original bracelet. The Tudor reminds me I need to travel more and the Seamaster brings out my inner Bond. Cheers ID Guy! Another great video to start my day 😊
I have a fairly robust Rolex Submariner collection within my collection. I also have a few Tudors. This is definitely the watch that I've been waiting for Tudor to make . U bought one 8 months ago and it's now my daily driver . For decades, the Rolex Submariner was my go to watch . For the first time in 55Yrs , it's my Tudor . BTW , great video !!!
I understand the attractive side of this watch. My daily is the OG Pelagos (two liner) and when i droole over other watches i ask myself if i would put away my Pele. I never do, it is for me my perfect daily wearer. I wouldn’t choose this BB over mine, the difference is there, but i understand why some people would want this for their yourney in life. Nice vid, as always.
And I’m a Pelagos guy too 100%. The DNA is all there, the design is so different to any other maker AND the OG’s… with the He valve, cool clasp, 2 lines, full titanium. They don’t make ‘em like they used to 😉
Was an Omega man for a decade, or so. Now own three Tudors, including this, as of last week. Still got a De Ville in there, but I just feel Tudor offer a very good, all-round package. They look great, wear really well, are very reasonably priced and (these days at least) are in-house, COSC, METAS, etc. They do a job, and I like the job they do.
There is no “one watch for everyone” absolutely. As much as I dig the Explorer, today I’m wearing the Seamaster… could equally wear either as a “one watch” - but then this week the FXD barely left my wrist 😆 Great opinions as always Ian! 🥃
They’re hitting the sweet-spot year after year with these pieces Gary and thank you for sharing! Might be an excellent alternative (on a 5-link) next to the harder wearing BBPro 🔥
I am SO excited to see what Tudor does with the new GMT movement. A "boring" monochrome (+red GMT hand) version with a jubilee bracelet would be killer 🤞
That is the only thing stopping me (kinda) from buying this one. My pelagos fxd is on my wrist 99% of the time over really nice other options. But sometimes I miss the bracelet and blackness without wanting to put on a sub. But this with the gmt movement. Pfoe
It has me thinking that they’re deliberately keeping these thicker, they have to be? The FXD is 12.7, the BB54 is like 12.5. There’s no reason why these new models are 13mm+? And thanks as always Craig! I hope you’re having a great start to your weekend 🥃
@ID-Guy thank you for your continuous insights. This year's releases leave me feeling a bit flat. This does give me thoughts of what they'll release next yearand what we have to look forward to... 🍻
I tried this on at the AD last weekend (on the not-jubilee bracelet) and it is simply superb. It looks even better and more dynamic in person. I think it’s another hit.
I feel that Tudor is making the Black Bay the perfect Submariner alternative. I feel that the BB is where the Sub was in the 80s and 90s, a tool watch that is luxurious but functional and easy to get. Thanks brother for the great video 👍🏽
So true. But Rolex/Tudor can go this way, because they know every owner, who buys it as Sub alternativ will keep the dream alive, owning a sub one day ... The perfect interim solution 😇
If I didn’t already have the Pelagos 39 and be waiting on the GMT, I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Beautiful, clean design done right; METAS very. The only thing anyone could complain about is the lack of crown guards. Thanks for the video as always.
It is definitely a nice watch. For me I am looking forward to what they do with the Pelagos this year. Also would love the five link on the standard GMT.
I personally believe that Tudor are going forward in the right direction & most of all listening to want we want. But the one watch that pleases everyone Does NOT exist , Fact ! While I like this Monochrome version will be in no rush to change from my Mk2. Great content as always & thank you 👏👍👏👍
This is James Bond Rolex Submariner Watch that we wanted !!! Tudor nailed it clean dial and the 5 link bracelet and very precise! What more you could ask for… just saying for know Omega be afraid be very Afraid!!! Cheers 🥃
I wish it'd come on one of the bracelets and give you the option to buy the rubber strap. 5 link for work, rubber band for play. Great video as always! Cheers from Green Bay.
Ryan, thank you for this brother, seriously 🥃 What's a crazy thing (and should be standard with brands) is that they supply the purchaser with all the strap choices. Take Zenith (since I mentioned it in the video) They offer you a full bracelet, interchangeable lug ends, strap with deployant AND a nato in one package... its insane. Think they're one of only a few that gives you all 3 options. Would be brilliant seeing Tudor do the same thing, right?
Much as I like this watch and I admired it immediately I saw the release I won't spend more on Tudors for now. I enjoy the ones I already own and can't justify additions or changes based on small increments to design or colour. The BB 58 silver which I own has that monochrome look though you might say with a bit of sepia added. Just a thought.
Well said, I’m in that same boat with the Pelagos. No Tudor since 2021 has truly blown my socks off like it (even though the BB54 is a great, great lil piece) 😉🥃
nkuwan You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much
With some contradictory thoughts on this watch, I think it might just be my favorite release of the past couple of years. At first sight I was very much in your initial impressions. But upon reflection, the amount of absolute value for feel is incredible. The no color, no date, no nonsense ideals of this this watch means it looks as in place on a wrist in the fields as at a formal engagement, or on a landscaper’s wrist to the boardroom. All this while not feeling precious about it. I’m usually a date complication absolutist, which is where my partial step back came from, but the starkness that this watch brings with the minimal text and black and white feel, the date would ruin it for me, at least I think. Ok, no more waxing poetic. Always love your takes
Excellently said William. It’s always better to let the hype settle (he says while promoting a watch that’s just been launched and is hotly talked about) But I think of all the years in the past where so many would say “get rid of the gilt” and it never registered how many people are far more keen on a simpler look. Seeing these live shots now… goes to show how versatile it can be. AND wouldn’t it be miraculous if these launched with a date? Feels odd me saying (as a no-date guy) that these are getting a bit repetitive with the symmetry 😆🥃
Dear Mr IDGuy, hope you’re well mate. You said it best, “whack it on and get on with your day” or there abouts. I like it, then I like a lot of them lol. It looks like a proper watch, to me at least.
It actually HAS been the one i've been paying attention to. The new 58 is too bogged down in what looked cool 5 years ago. That gilt...the faux Bakelite. i was completely turned off. But this one caught my eye immediately. I think it's a watch for collectors, but it's really a watch for the one watch guy. The guys that don't watch these channels. Great episode as always.
Does feel like the ideal choice for somebody who has no idea about watches, right? And then only later they learn how fkn accurate and well built they are 🤣 Well said as always Mike! Thanks brother 🥃
I wS thinking of buying this watch as my first watch. But also looking at the bb58 gmt. I like both so hard to choose. Would the bb58 gmt be a good first watch?
I immediately ignored the new GMT and started obsessing over the Monochrome on the definitely-not-a-Jubilee. As someone who regrets selling his 14060 years ago, this new two-liner with aluminum bezel is a dream come true. I'll be picking one up. Thanks for your always excellent videos and content; you're one of my absolute fave RU-vidrs.
I dont know man. Im not getting into this watch. The five link bracelet speaks against the tool watch image this watch should have. The three link bracelet still has the rivits. I miss the smile dial on all the new Models with their hard so service movements. All this watch gives me is the need to want a Sub more because it shows how good its Rolex counterpart is in the end. cheers
I was in a shop recently looking at this watch and someone in the shop showed me photos of a prototype, reissue of the old style Tudor submariner. It had a red bezel with chunky teeth and a silver dial, but in overall design it was similar to the old Subs you see that were military issue. The person had been to a meeting with Tudor and suggested to me that this could be an upcoming release, but also that it could just be a concept that may not make production. They also showed me a “Ranger 2” which had a fluted bezel!
I know about both pieces you mentioned, love that cherry red bezel sub AND how cool is that Ranger 2 with the fluting? Out of this world. Thank you for sharing this with me Ronnie! 🥃
Really liked the video and agree that this is the watch to pay attention to. It feels like the natural successor to the 75090. I think this is the best monochromatic color scheme since the BB58 58 925 in silver.
I loved the original BB 41 burgundy. And the black BB 41 with oh so perfect gilt. But I've been seeing them for a dozen years. Getting something fresh is really fantastic. I love the new 41. I love that they haven't shrunk it yet. I love how stark the dial is. I love that it's got an aluminum bezel. I don't think I have liked a single Rolex sub since they went ceramic. And the price is so much better than the Rolex. I will probably be buying one of these in the fall.
I’m sure it’s been said many times already, but the monotone BB41 done in the BB58 size would be great! Add a date at 6 & it would be the perfect watch for me.
It's puzzling but it's almost intentional that they dont make it perfect. Yes I agree that monochrome would be perfect to be thinner (I mean who cares for metas, even BB GMT is thinner) and BB GMT would be perfect if it had a 5 link. It's almost like giving themselves an insurance so they could come up with a slightly better version when things get tough. 😢
Pure and simple, goes back to Hans Wilsdorf's ethos of a " more affordable alternative ". I think he would have loved it. A very classy watch. Thanks for the review.
I agree, the FXD M.N. is the best Tudor currently offered and the only Tudor that I have been inspired to purchase. It checks all of the boxes. Cheers 🍻
I cannot get enough of it... 3 years on it's still just incredible (seriously considering adding a second... because I'm a nutter) 😆 Have a great end to your weekend Scott 🥃
I tried this watch on at my AD and it's awesome. If I weren't waiting for another watch to come in I would have picked this up. It's on my list. The colorway is great and all the adjustments with these new METAS models are spot on.
The Pelagos FXD MN is the best watch in the Tudor catalogue. I wear it all the time and it brings me nothing but joy! I like it so much I am seriously considering buying the black dial variant.
the difference between this Tudor and the Rolex submariner is the use of “Rolex” and the crown because when you take those things away the difference now is nominal.
For me, as a Sub owner, there's no doubt that this can be called the Tudor Submariner. The overall aesthetics, the size, the materials, the domed crystal, the fewer lines of text... comparing them to those of the Rolex Sub, are in my opinion so much more uncomplicated and less supposedly luxury, and therefore more practical. If I had to choose between the Tudor and the Rolex Submariner, my only real concern would be the movement: how reliable is the Tudor model compared to the Sub? I think that, in the end, the reliability of Rolex over most other watch brands, is the key to its success. Great video 👍
Excellent points here Daniel and thank you! And movement accuracy / reliability is something we're all asking. How well will these hold up in the long run? Still blows my mind just how incredibly hardy Rolex movements are (and accurate) It's yet another thing that can't be criticised about the brand ;)
What is interesting is that we have here a Tudor which is superior to the 5-figure Rolexes. This BB is at least as good as a 14060m but more precise and with a better bracelet and a better power reserve.
Nothing disjointed about this video. In the words of the late Tina Turner, “simply the best!” Great video my friend. I like that watch! I think it’s the bracelet more than anything that makes it a standout look!
It's a very cool watch indeed. Like most folks, it took me a bit of time to appreciate it and my thoughts on it haven’t congealed yet … I do have thoughts though but they've mainly been around where the Wilsdorf Foundation sees Rolex's target market going forward. Are we are starting to be subtly nudged towards Tudor (or away from Rolex) for our steel tool watch needs? I don't know - it sounds sort've mad, but also sort've makes sense to let Tudor have the daily / GADA market and leave the 'milestone purchases' for Rolex. Is that what's starting to happen? Edit - spelling / syntax
Does seem like now more than ever that Tudor’s been subtly handed the baton. I also can’t believe that this might be the future direction between the two brands? Got a few theories I’ll explore in future videos. But Rolex as the “aspiration” is now getting unreal… the prices are eye watering…
The new Black Bay monochrome is like a modern Rolex Submariner alternative. The Black Bay 54 is a faithful recreation of the original Tudor Submariner 7922 from 1954
I’m itching to swap out the snowflake hand on my BB54 for Gilt Pencils… it would be so damn good!! Must say, Tudors offerings across so many different disciplines is something else 🔥 Well said!
@@ID-Guy That would be an interesting experiment. Maybe swap the entire handset to acheive a more cohesive look though. true_patina performed a similar mod using the mercedes handset. I think I heard about it here on your channel, I might be wrong.
The Black Bay 54 is my first ever Tudor and since purchasing it I hardly ever wear my two Rolex watches, the Grand Seiko or the two Citizen watches I have to me it’s the perfect size for my small wrists and I actually like those gold tones.
The Tudor is a good alternative to the Sub with an excellent quality-price ratio, but I fear that like other Tudors, its resale value decreases over time, unlike Rolex. I have 2 Tudor BB 58, blue and black, and the market value has dropped significantly.
The recent hype for Tudor has been freaking extraordinary!😱 I’ll be curious how well the new Black Bay 58 in 18k gold sells. It’s gorgeous in green & it’s a perfect size but it’s still a 32 thousand dollar Tudor!😱 Their should be a Swiss law that says no Swiss company can produce a watch under 44mm with 3 lines of text @ 6.😭🤣. Tudor is on 🔥 just like King Rolex. P.s. The Omega Sedna 18k the most beautiful gold ever mixed imo.💪😀
This is a perfect colour way for me, I do not like gilt, silver and black or blue are my preference, hope this is applied to the BB54 Metas would also be the icing on the cake. Thank you for great video content
I’m a huge Tudor fan. The T-Fit bracelet has ruined me for life and it’s made it hard to buy a watch without on-the-fly length adjust. My AD contacted me and I got the first Monochrome they got. I love everything about it. The dial, size, quality, and of course the bracelet. Now I’m waiting for the call on the new Ceramic Bluesy. Great review! 😊
I excepted this years release to be a blue bezel version and was ready to plop down money. This all black and white version was a surprise but I didn’t hesitate and am really happy with the purchase. The five link really stands out so be ready for attention. I’m hoping to get the black rubber strap as a backup and will likely wear that most days switching to the bracelet for special occasions.
I really dislike the gold accents on the bezel of the GMT 58 :( The bb58 always feels too small for me tbh. I lik 41/42s so i am very happy to see the BB 41mm revived
I also wish the gold accents were cut from that bezel (did a render in my in-depth video from a few weeks back) Also just great seeing an alternative receiving the love instead of the typical BB58’s 🥃
Always enjoy your thoughtful videos...but I disagree that all of us are searching for that one perfect watch...no such thing and kind of a linear drive that takes the joy out of the pieces in my opinion
Hm, I didn’t realise before but is the ceramic Black Bay the first Master Chronometer watch they made (I saw it now in the video)? If it was they were probably figuring it out in small numbers how to scale it up efficiently for mass produced Black Bay 41 they released last year. I mean specifically the Master chronometer certification part.
I should’ve had a section highlighting how ahead of its time the BB(ceramic) was. First METAS, first 2-liner, first to have a sunburst dial AND has a ceramic insert? Really does feel like the prototype that pushed this new range out of the door, absolutely 🥃
This uninspiring WoW inspired me to look more closely at the hype surrounding specific brands and models. Number of clicks, views, reddit posts each attracts. Then I hear in half of videos Longines chasing Tudor. Tudor has emerged as a darling of the wach enthusiast space. But look at that JP Morgan report. Longines is not chasing Tudor. They are crushing Tudor. They sell almost 3 times as much watches. Now that I think about it, compared to how much hype and glorification it has on RU-vid, reddit and different blogs, Tudor must be the worst performing big brand. And I would really like someone to analyze that and tell me why it is that way.
You’re right, there’s a great divide from “enthusiasts pov’s” and the actual stats. Longines is sitting right up there at no. 2 or something, right? Selling way way more pieces around the world. The Joe on the street who knows nothing about watches has so much to choose from 😉 Great point Nikolas 🥃
Excellent question there at the end : if there had been no Blackbays in the past and Tudor launched the Monochrome today, would you be calling it a Tudor Submariner?
Don’t know. I am tempted to react with ”more of the same” regarding the Tudor black black bay. Why is it that Sinn (T50, U50, the EZM line) never is mentioned? 500 m WR and 11,2mm thickness (U50) for example? Or the chrono-diver (Sinn EZM 13.1) with chrono-pushers that can be used at 500m depth? Who else does this? Right.. nobody. No, instead every youtuber is amazed by the Tudor 13,6mm thick diver with only 200m WR. I will never understand, sorry.
Like you I’m a massive fan of the more polarising designs (Sinn, Zenith etc included) But we are such small minority and that’s a good thing! The everyday joe on the other hand? Think it’s fair to say most want a Rolex, can’t understand why they can’t get a Rolex and end up pursuing Tudor 😉 Anyone who knows anything goes after a name like Sinn for their tool / dive watches, no question 🥃
I don't know if the original idea of the Black Bay was to be Tudor's "Submariner", but with the success achieved with the release I can see that perhaps becoming the goal. There has been a slow evolution in the Black Bay 41 over the last few years: First the move from ETA to in house and now METAS certified. Then the subtle reworking of the case, changing the crown, changing the bezel ever so slightly. Very much like the evolution of the Submariner over the last few years. I owned the ETA Black Bay and handled the 41 monochrome over the weekend. While the dimensions may be pretty similar, the case feels and looks very different. It feels smaller and maybe even more refined? One could argue that the current Black Bay with ETA movement, on paper, is a "better" watch than the Tudor Submariner was. I still feel the Tudor Submariner has it beat on proportions though. In the coming years I can see Tudor slimming down the Black Bay 41 even more, removing the rivets and keeping that for the vintage inspired models (58 and 54) and maybe even going the route of a Black Bay and Black Bay Date. At the price point the BB41 sits I think a few other brands with pricier diver's watches might well be sweating.
I very much enjoyed this style of video. It feels more conversational and less scripted monologue. Keep these in your repertoire. As a Tudor owner and a 40mm Sub owner, my opinion is it's a very well-rounded watch. I can see many people hoping for a Sub to pop up at retail ( not happening) who will just pull the trigger on this. I would be one for sure.
Nothing wrong with a stealth, understated, quality watch. The popsicle color nonsense of brands like Nomos and Farer are like 80's fashion...out of style before you know it
I have the original rose logo black bezeled Black Bay and I'm getting this one. I was more pleased with this release than the "Coke" GMT. It truly is the Tudor Sub....200 meter water resistant, METAS cert Chronometer, aluminum bezel with the JUBILEE bracelet the one "upgrade" for a REAL tool watch. It's like the 14060.....Oh and by the way, young man, you're not in the same postal code as old.....
Feels good seeing a decade old watch getting that overall update with all the trimmings. It’s actually such an ideal time for those out there who’ve been enjoying the OG to now experience all the current perks! And thank you for the age compliment 😉 Truth be told I was pretty exhausted preparing the video (haven’t taken a break from the channel since December) 🥃
I just picked this up from my AD this week. For my flat 7" wrist, I think it's perfect. The case actually only measures 40mm and the bezel 40.5mm. It's all personal taste, but the 58s just feel a little small to me. I do own the Ranger in the 58 case and I love it. I believe it has more presence on wrist than the 58 because it's mostly dial (very small bezel). Anyhow, the new monochrome feels really good to me personally. And yes, oftentimes, boring is perfect!!
I have been looking at the BB 41mm GMT ever since launch but every time I try it on there is something about it that stops me from making the purchase, I just don't know what it is, the thickness? The bracket? I picked up the Pelagos FXD MN last month after trying it on for the first time, it is a watch once seen in person you cannot forget. This Monochrome on the 5 link, no gilt just shouts to me, submariner or not, it is 🔥. Can't wait to see one in person, just not while in still in the FXD honeymoon period!
There are always so many variables from size and thickness pic’s especially. The FXD’s are just special, right? I find mine really shines especially when I’m doing something physical (working on my old beetle, making something, working out, diving! Taking it diving was absolutely perfect) This lil BB41 might just be that dressier alternative 😉🥃
Great discussion! I agree, the Tudor Submariner has returned. On the monochrome scheme… I think this watch would have been a lot less talked about if the BB58 GMT came with white numerals on the bezel instead of the yellow ones it got.
Those damn gilt bezel numbers… it’s true to the “BB58 style” but you’re right. Mind you! I have first hand accounts of how the BB58 bezel gilt fades (after about 2 years in the sun) so that’s something I guess 😆🥃
I believe this model came out on all the bracelet options (including rubber) BUT I could be wrong 🥃 Unless you’re talking about a “rivet-less” bracelet, I agree ;)
Howzit ID GUY! Great synopsis as usual! Ja, agree - please do a follow up of the FXD. Like you, it’s the cherry on the cake in my collection. More wrist time than my Rolly/other Tudors by a country mile! I LOVE it!
I’m on the “waiting list” for a Rolex no date sub, in all honesty, I don’t foresee that I will ever get “the call” as I wont play the game of spending money on things I don’t want in order to be given the opportunity of spending the best part of €10k on a Sub. Now, I see this new monochrome BB from Tudor on a 5 link jubilee and if it’s as nice on my wrist as it is in photos, I will ready struggle not to pull the trigger and forget about the Sub, esp as the Tudor, with a Master Chronometer is less than half the price of the Sub. My only concern is would the Tudor BB monochrome sufficiently scratch my Rolex Sub itch…..anyway, it’s only first world problems.
When we weigh up all the similarities and differences, there’s about a 4-5 grand difference in price between the two. The BB now with T-fit on the 5-link is a knockout (even Rolex hasn’t adapted this feature) and then with the METAS perks - I’m hearing they run extremely well, it’s crazy, right? 🥃
My question for everyone is how long does it run as Metas? I hear only months on some Omegas, so really, in two plus years, why is this important? Just a perk at purchase?
I was able to buy a Sub (no date) from an AD last year. My only other purchase was a Grand Seiko. I guess I got lucky. So speaking from experience, don't expect the Rolex to be the end all be all, yes I said that and I mean it, here is why: My Grand Seiko keeps more accurate time, my Seiko Turtle gets worn surfing and paddleboarding because if it gets ripped off my wrist in the water I’m out a whole lot less. My Longines Zulu Time gets more wrist time at work because the UTC time function is useful looking at weather reports (which are in UTC). These all are watches that cost much less and have less panache, but they all have a place and do the job just as well or better than the Sub. Lastly, Rolex has become something of a fashion/status symbol. I did not want the watch for that reason, but it came with it and you can’t get rid of it. That’s not all it’s cracked up to be, so I pick the times I wear it carefully to avoid any unwanted attention or anyone making assumptions. I’m considering this new Black Bay or a Pelegos 39 to add to my collection, why, because it’s NOT a Rolex, and I want an accurate dive watch ( Seiko is +12 a day so OK but not great) that is not as flashy or expensive, but gets the job done. Just food for thought.
What you have to decide is how long you’re willing to wait with no guarantee. I didn’t even want to buy Tudor because of the parent company’s bungling of distribution. Eventually got over it and… now own 3 Tudors.
Thanks for the video 👍 I’m still struggling with this one. Why not reproduce a like for like Tudor sub from 1994 ish. Tudor would not be able to make them quick enough. Or simply buy a original Tudor sub, there are still some floating around online and they just look stunning, even now after 30 years.
Nothing disjointed about that video as usual concise informative and considered opinion that seems to always get a review spot on. The benchmark for all other watch RU-vidrs. Às for the bb41 monochrome I want one badly
Love your channel and your videos. I always watch as soon as they come out. Tudor really offers very strong value and have good availability. I love Rolex and Omega, but the price hikes on both, and the unavailability of the great Rolex pieces makes Tudor a great option. I have the Gilt Dial Heritage Black Bay 41. It is gorgeous, and it spoke to me when I put it on, so I bought it. This Monotone Black Bay is just a great piece. Especially on the five link bracelet. What a winning piece.
I’m actually kinda happy that nothing was really hyped up from Rolex. I know I’m probably delusional, but it gives me hope that getting something like that Black Grey GMT at an AD is actually possible. Hope you do a whole video on that one soon, I think it’s a lot more interesting of a release than people think it is. Always love your content!
I’m going to dig deeper into this topic in the coming weeks (have a few theories) 😉 And I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you somehow, some way manage to land the GMT. Really appreciate the comment brother and thank you! 🥃
I wish you well but w/o a relationship with your local AD, it will be a long wait, probably years. The salesmen will sell them to their friends or straight to the grey market. All steel GMTs get sold immediately. Even the Explorer II.
The OG Smiling Black Bay. They are very scarce (and sought after) I think they produced a lot more burgundy’s and navy blue bezels of that generation in comparison. Thanks for sharing this brother! 🥃
The point exactly… unrealistic prices (I mean my Explorer was in excess of £6k) it’s fkn unbelievable man. For an Explorer? If somebody new to this hobby finds one of these for 3.5-4k and puts the remaining 4k into… I dunno, a house? Doing a far better job 😆🥃
