Except there’s way more people who just don’t care about those guys or have even heard of them than say Serena or Jordan or Ali or even Lebron. To be the greatest ever you have to transcend your sport to the point where people who don’t even like your sport will watch it just because you’re that great. Which most of those guys you mentioned did, just not to the same level as Ali/Serena/Jordan. It is possible to be BETTER at a sport and not be as GREAT (Rogers v. Brady for example).

The only american athlete of the 3 major American sports that deserves to be in the conversation is Michael Jordan. And serena doesnt transcend her sport more than federer, its simply the american media that has a love affair with her, everywhere else in the world its federer (and nadal) who is the face of tennis

The importance of the QB is based on how strong the run game and defense is. The less he throws the ball, the less burden he carries, and his defense can back him up if he makes a mistake.
The QB touching the ball just comes with the territory. If all he does is hand it off 80% of the time that's a lot less burden on him. The degree of difficulty is raised when he is passing and needs to do pre-snap reads, pick up blitzes, and go through his progression to get the ball out on time and accurately. Brady is the best at his position but there is literally nothing else he can do on a football field. I really don't even consider him an athlete.

I don't consider the hardest position to be the quarterback position. The quarterback position has been given so many advantages in this passing area that I can no longer consider it the hardest to play. I think the hardest positions to play in sports is probably in baseball.

If Wayne Gretzky never scored a single goal in the NHL he would still be first all time in points. That's simply unmatchable. It's a shame hockey isn't at the forefront in the U.S because he would be in the top 2 or 3 athletes ever if it was more recognized. In baseball, football, and basketball, you can make a conceivable argument for multiple people as the best of their sport. In hockey, there's no argument for anyone but Gretzky.

The greatest athlete of all time is clearly isiah thomas jr or nate robinson. Playing in the NBA at 5'9-5'10 night in night out is nothing short of amazing. Isiah thomas has led his team to 2nd place in the east. Put it this way, most ballers can go play soccer, but not the other way around. And many of the best tightends, wide receivers in NFL has some basketball background.
