I think Ahmed from Car Care Nut said it on his latest video: Companies can't keep up with EPA requirements so they are rushing tech that is not proven.
i have to agree with him. the politicians are setting targets for emissions that are difficult to achieve especially in respect with the timeline. cars today are way too complicated and harder to repair.
@@aeromtb2468 Politicians are also out for money and power. They aren't benevolent to the people. They know very well that pressurizing car companies will strengthen their hold on power. To add to this, Elon has been a boon to them. Tesla cars are fantastic in terms of technology, but what made Tesla cars sell in huge numbers is politics.
Toyota was never a leader or innovator of technological advances. Toyota was always old school, good old reliable, tried and true technology. Advancing in technology is definitely stepping out of their comfort zone. They’re not used to being here. A lot of people used to voice their opinions about how Toyota was always old school. I think this new Toyota is a product of what people wanted. I remember when the 2nd generation Tundra 1st came out people were like ugh! It get 13 MPG. Now the 2nd generation Tundra resale is worth more than a 22-23 year Tundra 🤦🏻♂️
I still prefer Akio Toyoda as the chairman because he knows what we want more than we ourselves know it. He smashed EVs single-handedly for the good of consumers. The Toyota quality issues are to be blamed on the QC management at American Toyota factories.
What is going on with Toyota/Lexus they take so long to put out new models and then major recalls after the vehicle is released. I need Toyota and Lexus to get back to their roots.
Toyota and Japan as a whole is stuck in the 90's model and even is the keirutsu model have been whinning they still have too much influence especially in embedded large multi-national. All that Japan tech is embeded, are their fun, quirky and awesome we made to believe they live in the future have been usually embeded tech's, without flexibility. of the 90's. And for some reason, their PC and DIY market been really weak as hell. Artisanal, if you will, and not flexible skill to make other things etc. I won't go into the lost decade of Japan as other Asia watcher have done a way better job. As I said in a Japan(and culture/second dimension/2-Jigen) living forum, I will be ok to be their for 6 months but no more, I will miss the openess and big truck and cars of the Americas and the crowdness or cozyness of living spaces will get to me. And their way of thinking
Do NOT take this video down if Toyota is actually trying to cover things up! Freedom of speech doesn’t exclude Toyota. You’ve grown your channel this big based off of your honesty and integrity when reviewing and reporting things, don’t be bullied by any of these huge corporations.
@@naveenthemachine Every company does that. Even your favorite Hyundai had been using child labor until they got caught, but you seem to avoid that topic since your Hyundai-loving side would get hurt.
@@mottom2657That’s true, none of these companies are stellar when it comes to morality. All huge corporations exist to appeal to shareholders and making big profits.
I work at the plant. No production because everything is being investigated throughly to Come up with a countermeasure to insure good quality and safety is put into each grand highlander.
@@ky9263yes I like it! They are very nice and really big on the inside! Toyota is always going to stand by their product 100%. I would buy one if I could afford one forsure and If I had kids and a wife!
I feel like Toyota has overextended itself. They sell 38 models here in the US. 38! They are pushing out so many drastically different models that it's impossible to keep everything in check
Just asking, how did you get 38? Not sure if you’re counting different powertrains as a seperate vehicle but I’m getting 24 individual models, not including the different powertrains you can get on them
I do kinda agree. Like who asked for the Toyota crown? They should have either given us a redesigned Avalon or discontinued it. Even the crown signia as nice as it is. They already have so many nice suvs, idk why they thought they needed another $40k-50k one
1 Toyota Camry 2 Toyota Corolla 3 Toyota Prius 4 Toyota Tacoma 5 Toyota Tundra 6 Toyota Highlander 7 Toyota Rav4 8 Toyota Corolla Cross 9 Toyota 4Runner 10 Toyota Seqoia - the forgotten vehicle 11 Toyota Land Cruiser 12 Toyota Crown - the Avalon replacer 13 Toyota Sienna 14 Toyota Supra 15 Toyota GR86 sports coupe 16 Toyota GR Corolla, it's a separate car 17 as of 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander 18 Toyota Venza discontinued in the US as of 2024. so im only getting 17 according to this site, that is alot of vehicles, but keep in mind Toyota sells almost all of them. some less than others, but a sale is a sale regardless. people love when there are plenty to choose from, but it sure is making someone filthy rich lol.
Tmmi talks facebook group shutdown because the administrator had a serious car accident and needed time off. It had nothing to do with this. Toyota employees have a lot of Facebook groups that have not been shutdown. Let's not have a rumor of Toyota silencing people when they are not. I'm not a big supporter of Toyota and I'm here for anyone tearing them down, but let's leave the speculation out of it.
@@americandude3825It takes awhile to fix a problem like that. I think the Alabama factory needs to redo the entire QC system. Heck, the entire US operations needs to rehaul the QC department. Rest of the places like Europe, Asia, and Japan have hardly any issues.
So the TTV6 was already in the LC 300 series from march 2021 and in the Lexus LS before that with no big issues as far as I know. So why issues in LX and tundra ?
@@byhsu6140 Mazda and BMW have what you’re describing. Sure it would be nice for it to come from Toyota but they need to make a new platform altogether and that’ll take years. Unless they choose to partner with someone.
@@quasar3210The hybrid max @davet7184 mentioned is the turbocharged 4 cylinder hybrid system. The Grand Highlander has this hybrid max for performance and the regular 4 cylinder hybrid system focusing the efficiency.
interesting. i remember when toyota had to rebuild their reputation after the sudden acceleration incident over a decade ago. hope they get it together.
My Toyota Grand Highlander is great! During July 4th weakend, I drove about 1500 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Arizona and Utah and back while in triple digit heat including 127 degrees of heat in Las Vegas. I had zero problems and got 31 miles per gallon in my Hybrid engine. I also discovered a hack that allowed me to drive hands-free and pedal free for at least half of the miles I drove.
@@donovancollins2491 you say that yet we have indeed stopped producing these two models which are the 2024 grand highlander and the 2024 Lexus tx 350/500
We still have faith in Toyota because of their strong past reputation and continued commitment to listen to consumers instead of pushing crap on us. Toyota will work this out.
@@mrgurulittle7000 Toy still working on FOOLCELLS and HYDROGEN fuel , they keep pushing those technologies , I keep getting notifications that Toyota is going to kill BEVs and that Toyota is going to BANKRUPT Tesla.😂
Toyota has alway had its problem they just have good pr and other vehicles they can point to. Going back to the 80s early 90s their truck V6 blew head gaskets and it wast a matter of if it was when. But Toyota had the legendary 22r to hang their hat on and point to. So is Toyota having some problems yup but they have other vehicles they can hang ther hat on and point to that will keep their reputation .
I have a 2011 Toyota Camry LE 2.5L with 100k miles and no issue ever. Give me a boring car with a reliable engine and transmission and stop listening to the government.
Thank you very much. I have given up on the idea of buying a Grand Highlander now, but are the same problems present in the old model, such as the small Highlander Hybrid?
I live in the hood. Recently I started noticing a lot of people around here getting brand new Grand Highlanders…this explains it. - dealers are letting them go
Do you think it's the right time to buy the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid PLAtinum Max?? I'm still hesitant because I don't know if the problems are resolved. Your opinion will be appreciated ??
I have owned many Toyotas, I love toyota, I currently own a sequoia and a tundra. I am very skeptical of owning a toyota right now. I would buy an old Land Cruiser but work from my vehicle and apple car play is a game changer for me. If another brand has good reliability and resale it’s sad to say but I maybe ready to jump ship
As a Toyota employee who works at the TMMI plant, hopefully there's a fix soon. It's always scary when you don't know how long this could go on affecting hundreds if not thousands of people's jobs and livelihoods. Not to mention people's safety.
TMMI TALKS was shut down due to the admins' own personal accident. It has NOTHING to do with the current issue. Also, you have some information wrong as to when they stopped shipping cars. Yes, production halted today, but the official release from Toyota was made today. It's a side panel airbag issue. It's more than likely a supplier issue.
I don't think Toyota fully realizes the gravity of the situation. There are millions of people just in the US that only bought Toyota / Lexus, and nothing but Toyota / Lexus, not even considering anything else - That has changed big time. New pricing and dealer markup BS has killed the value aspect, reliability which was absolutely paramount is crumbling, and even styling and falling for trends (ridiculous tire / rim sizing) is front and center. My God this from the worlds largest auto manufacturer?
@@naveenthemachineIf I would have held my breath the first time you said Toyota is going out of business, I would have been dead many, many years ago. If Hyundai hasn't gone out of business yet, then Toyota has a long, long way to go
What has changed big time? Other than the fact that I like buying their cars, I don't gaf what Toyota does, but their sales have increased in North America, and 2024 JD Power results show Lexus and Toyota in the #1 and #2 spots. So if that's "crumbling" then so be it. Who knows what the future holds, but I'd be happy to own a "crumbling" company like this one.
@@ytj22JD Power? I would think all people here know more than the average person when it comes to cars but JD awards are meaningless. Any company can buy that award
Mazda CX-90 is a IIHS Top Safety Pick +. CX-70 (which I own and so far, love. Turbo S Premium) has yet to be tested so it's just a IIHS Top Safety Pick. One would think it would be the same as the CX-90 but it appears the Grand Highlander has the side airbag deployment issue where the Highlander did not. I looked up the Highlander minus the Grand and it's just IIHS Top Safety Pick. I find that surprising.
Because of dealer markups and lead time a family member purchased a loaded RX350h instead of a limited hybrid grand highlander, for around effectively the same price
This information about the Grand Highlander is exactly why I NEVER buy the first or second model year of any newly introduced vehicle. The regular Highlander has been out for a while, and it has been pretty reliable so far. I think the regular Highlander is a solid buy right now, especially the hybrid version.
Thank you for this info. I have a TX on order that was just days from delivery, but was stopped at the depot in the Dallas area. The status: "Under study, check back every Friday after 12 pm - Vehicle delayed for 30 days - ETA unavailable". No other information was given to me.
@@suprA91 It had already arrived in Dallas and was waiting to be put on a carrier to the dealer, so I'm not sure what you mean. The word we got was that they were also stopped in-freight.
@@geekmommy4 I misread. Headquarters is in Plano, near Dallas. It must have left our train yard just barely before we stopped. We stopped shipping them on trains beginning of last week. Stopped production Thursday, but theyve been just sitting in employees parking lot what has been built so far. Awaiting for them to find a fix.
I have worked in heavy industry for 25 years. I never imagined we could have have such an epidemic of incompetence in this country, at all levels. Quality is awful.
Awe, and we were getting really interested in the Grand Highlander after our weekend test drive too! Ugh, just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water... 🦈 So much for "getting 'em off the street!"
Good… maybe I can get my second key fob for my Grand Highlander. Been waiting 7 months for it. Love the Grand Highlander but it’s annoying as Heck when they only give you one key fob when you buy it and tell you it will be 3 months to get the second fob.
yeah so there is a lot of speculation and misinformation going on… and people will believe whatever they see on the internet if it fits a narrative they already buy in to. I basically described every white midwestern boomer in the US
I literally finished my purchase last night at 10pm came home to find this video and returned the vehicle at 9am today! Thank you so much for protecting the public and my family......also my head 😂. Great work!
Sienna and Highlander are made at the same plant but in the east assembly shop which has its own parts and chassis supply lines West assembly makes the Lexus tx and grand highlander, any shares parts will be sent to east assembly to make sure east continues running smoothly As of now we do not have any modifications to build plan in east for increasing or decreasing numbers
Here’s what needs to happen the GR GT3 needs to become Lexus’/Toyota’s new RWD platform. Like BMW’s CLAR platform (also hopefully Mazda does the same with the CX90’s platform). They can make the LX, RX, NX, IS, maybe the Supra/Celica on the platform. Get rid of the TX and sadly the GX from the Lexus lineup, there’s no point of them, you already have the Highlander, 4Runner, multiple versions of the Land Cruiser, etc. Powertrains, they need to make an inline 6 from the G16E, have Yamaha help with that, they’d be great at it, they helped with the Ford SHO engine, and the 2000GT, LFA, 2UR, etc. Have the inline 6 be in the NX, RX, LX, IS, the rumored RC+LC replacement, possibly a next gen Supra. Then have the 2.0 inline 4 also be those cars (maybe a new Celica too) minus the LS, LX and RC+LC replacement. The new TT V8, have that in the higher trim vehicles like the LS, LX, and RC+LC replacement, maybe even the IS, and possibly the Tundra and Sequoia. For the transmission use the new GR-DAT (ZF8). For the rest of Toyotas lineup, it just needs to go back to the basics and be a cheap, reliable option. Hopefully this is just Toyota/Lexus on a bumpy road right now. Sucks to see their reputation being dragged through the mud.
@@marklihsu true, but it’ll be based off the G16E, yes it’s still too soon to tell reliability of it (especially with it being spliced with another one), but Toyota has a history of Inline 6’s and if they go to Yamaha for help it’ll only make things better. I mean it’ll most likely be much better than the current TT V6, thing had problem from the get-go. Anyways this is all wishful thinking from my part.
The driver side curtain airbag juts out of the window in the testing. Could the air curtain have been held in place better if the window was closed and didn't allow the dummy head to slip through? It seems like a variable that may need to be explored. I understand that testing standards can vary and these problems definitely need to be figured out ASAFP. It is good to know that there is still some consumer protection going on out there.
When window is down or window breaks out, then the head hits the a pillar. It seems it might be ok if that window stays intact, but that would probably not happen in an offset crash.
I remember seeing that article regarding the safety and I was floored. Toyota prides themselves on their principles of quality and safety so I'm really disappointed in this. Many many missteps over the last year and this wont bow well for them
Vehicles from GM and Kia have actually been doing decent on the UPDATED crash tests. Toyota made sure their vehicles would do well on the old ones but they did not make them for the updated tests. Safety is poor compared to other brands. Quality is down the drain (only hope is one made in Japan). Headlights exceed glare limits blinding other drivers.
Have you heard of any delay on the 2025 Crown Signia? Recently, there was a major pre rollout PR offensive. There were dozens of great reviews. Toyota released its own introductory video. Toyota added a build and price option on their website. Local dealers act like they’ve barely heard of the Signia. No preorders. No waiting lists. Corporate response said in an email that finishes and options had not been finalized. Local dealers have no idea when it is to be released. It will be a first come, first served process. You can take whatever they get on their allocation and like it. Absolutely bizarre. The prerelease mania was as good as a manufacturer could want and then they completely drop the ball. If only 20,000 units will be built a year there will likely be a dealer markup. I have pretty much lost interest at this point.
Just got a Hybrid Corolla LE and the dealer discounted it $3800, not sure why they did that. ...end of month volume incentive rebate factory to dealer?
The TX was initially to be available in Matador Red but I understand an issue with the paint caused a stop to production with a statement that it would be available later. Any word yet from any Toyota production or management contacts as to when the red color will be available?
It’s the EPA that is a problem here not the car companies. As this Govt body is shoving unreal and undesirable emission standards down the car companies throats.
their whole line up is renewed and adding like 3-4 new cars in the process, that is not normal for Toyota. This is against their conventional wisdom of slow change, small incremental improvements to now build new new new, new models, new powertrains NEW PROBLEMS. I am actually not surprised at all. The only ones surprised is the Toyota fanbase who sees them as perfect-can-do-no-wrong.
I’m not surprised at all either, and I don’t condone Toyota for these issues because it’s evident you’d get issues when you overhaul your lineup. People in 2018 were like “Toyota is so outdated” and now in 2024 we have “Toyota is full of issues”. Well duh! But then compare Toyota’s issues with that of the rest of the industry and Toyota still comes out as the superior automaker.
While im no special pleader for toyota, the govt broadly is way way way overstepping its bounds on all these dictates to manufacturers. We need to rein in these regualtory bodies. They have moved beyond regulating to dictating specifics and deciding what you are allowed to buy. Same with dieselgate. When some agency sets requirements way more stringent than technically feasible, what do people expect will happen. Just because some guy in a suit dictates something that doesnt mean it is doable
The entry level model of the Grand Highlander has teeny tiny back light. Not sure if their engineers tested drove them long enough in very dark conditions, heavy rain, etc... Such an unsafe design
Toyota quality started taking a dive with the 2018 Camry. There was a slight rating improvements with the 2019 and in 2020, the Camry bought new, it got worse with tens of thousands bad engines being put out. It was up to the customer to find the bad engines. If it leaked oil through the block castings the engines were replaced. It is leaked antifreeze through the block Toyota snuck in block sealer without telling the customer trying to stop the leak. Like they did with mine. Toyota had to be sued to do something with that crappy 8-speed that are now in the new Tacoma's. Toyota is chasing the money instead of the mileage now.
Kirk, try reviewing 2024 Hyundai sonata hybrid limited if you can, since I’m considering one and I’d like to know your perspective before I try and buy one myself.
Wow, not good. We're in the market for a larger SUV to replace our trusty 2008 RAV4 V6 AWD and the Highlander is on the short list. I don't know if I should consider one of the other brands or hold on to my RAV4 until this all get sorted out.
