Much Abrew has any brew, sometimes even tier 1 things that are new and it's always someone ELSE'S brew. Those decks might center around a card but often they are centred about a mechanic or synergy. Against the odds is always Seth's brews and it's usually centered around a specific card trying to force it to be good by putting it in a shell to make it shine. But yes in the end they are both "taking a weird deck and playing with it and asking if it's actually good or if we broke it"

I find it amusing that there's a variant of this deck where you just play Tree combo in addition to Sorin and just have two wincons. The two combos don't have anything in common except the support vampire cards lol

Common Agatha's Soul Cauldron W; the most interesting card they've printed in 5 years. Even when you forget it's also instant graveyard hate and creature pumps, so do your opponents.
The LGS I went to when I was still playing paper magic had a deal during the set Tree was in offering a free pack for anyone who pulled Tree in any pack they bought there.
I recommend -1 Grafdigger Cage, -3 Vadmir, -1 K-Command, +2 Soul Guide Lantern, +1 Pithing Needle, +2 Long Goodbye. Soul Guide Lantern doesn't hit our graveyard and is a better topdeck than a Leyline (though I know some prefer Leyline instead). Pithing Needle shuts down Sorin and Kiora in Mono Green and forces the opp to draw their artifact hate sideboard cards. As a mono black budget player, I was having trouble against Spirits and UB Rogues so Long Goodbyes were a specific meta call.
Cut down also works against rogues, feels bad to drown a 1 mana removal spell. Also, this deck works with crippling fear sideboard. My favourite sideboard tech
Inti doesn't actually require attacking! The second half of the text works for any discard. So if you use your Blood tokens, you'll get a free impulse draw.
Not sure how it resolves on Arena, but if you Thrillseeker their Wildgrowth Walker and they give it indestructible in response, doesn't the game draw because your opponent is stuck in a loop since Amalia can't kill it anymore?
I think on arena it would be a loss from the owner of the combo timing out, and in tournament play the person with the infinite combo may be forced to make decisions that makes the combo end (explore all the lands into hand and all the non-lands into graveyard until there are no cards in library so explore fizzles and the loop ends). If they can win that turn they win, if they can't win that turn they lose when they cannot draw.
@@gillablecam you don't stop exploring when your library is empty, you just get infinite +1/+1 counters. So in paper it would be a draw since the combo cannot be stopped by an empty library even.
I gotta be honest, the fact that there wasn't even a Single tricadecophobia in the deck made me Really disappointed. That was my standard deck back when the cards came out ( though pain lands made it.. well a pain 😂)
At 49:00 I think if you play the Mutavault, pass the turn, when opponent attacks, fire up the Mutavault, buff it with Soul Cauldron, exiling the Tree of Perdition, block the Jegantha, sacrifice the Mutavault to kill the Slickshot Show-Off, you can survive a turn. Then on your next turn, you fire up your new Mutavault, buff that with soul cauldron, exiling the Voldaren Thrillseeker. Tap the Mutavault to put the opponent to two, then sacrifice the Mutavault to deal 2 damage. You still lose if the opponent topdecks a burn spell or a haste creature that can deal 2 damage, but it's a decent chance.

Can the worst Mythic Land ever, Hostile Hostel, actually be competitive? I think that card will make anyone eat their words who thinks it can actually be effective in any way... and I adore that card I say this with love.
He doesn't even need to put thrill seeker in the gy. If he has 4 mana, he can just play it, give the counters to the epicure so it gets the ability due to backup, and activate it for 1.
I wonder if it would be worth playing some spells like play with fire instead of Thrillseeker to close out the game after the tree ability is activated. Also perhaps playing it in historic and adding Faithless Looting?
How do you get that arena interface where you deckbuild is in the bottom not the side, I think I've seen streamers build their deck in the bottom while drafting but I can't get that interface?

Would only be 4 damage (5 damage if he also uses the Cauldron), not enough to kill Jegantha, however, it is enough to kill the opponent if he also attacks with it, dealing a total of 10 damage.

You could’ve discarded tree w the tokens, turned mutavault into a creature, exile tree, put a counter on mutavault, tap to exchange life for toughness then used your last mana to sac it and deal the last bit of damage you needed to the face
It's a turn 3 deck with the god hand right? I feel like there might even be a modern deck here, since I feel like what you're missing is honestly a bolt. I don't know that the turn one creature would matter that much, the vamp giving you the blood token is a bonus but if your combo is disrupted something cheap with haste like a raging goblin could allow you to goblin+cauldon activation+bolt turn 3 even if you lose your turn 1 guy. I kinda see it as an izzet deck with free counterspells to protect the combo and no real option to cast the tree. There's a god hand/top deck possibility to combo off turn 2. Turn 1: surveil land putting tree to yard, cast Ornithopter or Memnite Turn 2: Pyretic Ritual into cauldron, activate cauldron to give ability to freebie creature, activate then bolt. You have the opportunity to pact here to protect your combo if need be (free counterspells were and are a mistake)
31:22 I don't play arena. But from what I've heard from the comments is that a lot of arena players just play their cards and don't even read what their opponents cards do. I think they just played the chord to play it. I'm sure if they read grafdiggers cage, they would have known.
The card got highlighted white a few times after it was played. This means the opponent at least put their mouse cursor over it. When you hover your cursor over a card, it will show you the full card and it's text, but your opponent will see that you're looking at the card. So they were either being silly and just happened to run their cursor over that card specifically a few times. or they read it.
What changes the text "tree of perdition" in the tap ability to the name of the creature you attach it to? Wouldn't every creature given this ability still trade life totals with Tree's toughness?

I've been playing a tree deck since WOE came out. Ugin's Conjurant and Stonecoil Serpent on 1 will let you set your opponent to 1 before the counter is put on them. I also run Play With Fire to end games at instant speed.
The fact that this is a legitimate deck in Pioneer speaks to just how absurdly far above every other option Black's answer suite is in the format. WOTC really needs to either ban Thoughtseize or start printing Path/Bolt/etc. into the format because it's so absurd that Black is the only color that gets 1MV interaction.
@@aceviru You could replace the fatal pushes with burn spells. Additionally, voldaren thrillseeker seems too gimmicky and is just a harder way of bolting your opponent's face. You could also put burn spells in the sideboard.

Swapping out a 1 cmc removal spell that can hit 4 drops like Sheoldred (revolted with our blood tokens, which feed our graveyard and synergize with our combo) into a *checks notes* 1 cmc burn spell that does a whole 2 damage to any target and if I use it to hit my opponent with it instead of the Sheoldred, I can scry 1! I see where you're going there. Maybe add in some wizard's lightning. Some slickshot showoffs. Take out the swamps for a better mana base. Hmm. Roiling Vortex in the sideboard so that they don't gain life... Alright, we've fixed our deck. Lets call it Mono-red aggro but pretend it's Tree combo.
Because due to the ability of tree of perdition granted by the soul cauldron, you exchange the toughness of the creature with the life total of the enemy player. So the toughness of the voldaren epicure becomes the former life total of the oponnent. So its base toughness became 16.
As with many of these, the premise of the title is misleading. This is about proving that Agatha's Soul Cauldron is SO good that it can be good even with a convoluted combo involving bad jank like Tree of Perdition.
in the situation of epicure + agatha vs haywire at around 34:49 - honestly may have been smarter to wait at first. would turn into a game of chicken, but the situation was an odd case of you'd be able to put on pressure if you activated agatha in response to haywire, rather than haywire being activated in response to agatha. case we had roll out here: agatha was activated first, haywire nukes it. we only get the counter and exile. alternative chain of potential events: haywire activated, agatha gets to resolve and exile the tree, priority passes back around, you snatch their life total with epicure. Agatha is then nuked and opponent is tapped out. In the following turn, given 3 mana available we have a few other options. case 1 - we did nuke em the turn prior: We win if we draw a land to play agatha, discard thrillseeker, and then fling into their face. Alternatively at 4 mana we just play thrill, then hit face - no reliance on the agatha. case 2 - we didn't nuke the turn prior: We're in a rough spot, but playing the second agatha garuntees the nuke. if both cauldrons are on the field, we just target the same card for exile if they try to destroy one, since it doesn't exile till resolution. If they try to destroy in response to us casting the second, we let em - their removal is then gone, so we do the swap. We win still if we draw a land. both cases we lose to what happened, but both cases we have a chance to win on our next draw.
38:20 couldn't you just use the tree ability on voldaren epicure in response to them exiling your cauldron next turn you untap with the 4 mana to play voldaren thrillseeker, use it's backup on epicure and pay the last mana to activate the thrillseeker ability on epicure to burn their face off

The thrillseeker is a win by herself with the tree in gy, she can sac herself after tapping to be the tree, and if they remove her then you can put her under the cauldron instead of wasting 2 turns to do the same thing What if instead of Inti, you put in Mastermind's Acquisition? Get cards from your sideboard or from your deck. Might help if you need to grab a win con or something from your sideboard. Since you say that Inti didn't help at all, having a tutor that can grab something from sideboard and then you can put in a few "tools" in your sideboard to help "just in case" but don't want to actually sideboard in.

Isn't a much simpler combo running Tree with Spiteful Hexmage and other Cursed Role makers? Make the tree a 1/1, tap and bring the opponent down to 1 with no strings attached.
I've only watched the intro so far, but I hope that Seth gets into a situation where he has a Thrillseeker in the graveyard and two Trees in hand, then uses the reverse of his intended combo and exiles the Thrillseeker with the Cauldron then drops both Trees and sacs both Trees to do 26 points of damage to win. Not likely to happen, but that would be funny.
I don't believe giving a non-creature non-vehicle Tree of Perdition's ability would work the way you want it to. A food token doesn't have a toughness to exchange, so activating the ability won't do anything.
Seth misplays this deck a lot and locks himself out of answers. Choosing a random card of no value from the opponent's graveyard rather than granting your creatures bloodtide's ability is nearly always worse. Casting rather than cauldroning the thrillseeker is nearly always worse.
