No, I will not accept shared rides. Period! And if they stop captioning the shared rides so we can't see the nature of the ride in advance of acceptance, I'll just drive for Lyft.
I would think this would be a bigger issue for the passengers than the drivers. Who would pay the rates Uber is charging, then get stuck sitting next to some drunk fool all the way home. That service already exists. It’s called the “bus”. And it doesn’t cost what Uber is charging. People call n Uber specifically to avoid public transportation, which is what this becomes with a shared ride. It also feels like an invasion of personal space, given the dimensions of the back seat. Honestly, I don’t know how this company is still in business with the kind of “idea” people they have working there.
Had a $3.50 sticky surge. Kind of out in the country side. Shared ride came over. 1 Milie ride on directing in heading. Extreme low chance getting an add .... so .... easy $7.00 But yes. These aren't great.
I picked up a person who said she had chosen Uber share but in my screen it came up as Uber x notice her phone did say Uber share . Uber is very shady and they won’t do anything until we all stop driving for a week as a protest but it has to be done by everyone .
Hi my name is Brian Campbell I am part time Uber and Lyft driver in atlanta Georgia I don’t understand why they bring back Uber pool it is not making us no money. We are not making nothing extra from Uber pool. Lyft discontinued Lyft pool
Never will take a shared ride by choice. Frankly I'm not keen on the whole market I'm in and I honestly the way Uber keeps combining/eliminating options for drivers is making me question whether I will even bother much in future. But hey, more passengers for other drivers if/when I dip.
When you accept a share on accident and have started the trip, you can stop future requests to mitigate any headaches. It will likely cost you a $1-2 on your fare, but it's better than the time and risk involved imo.
I noticed this last night in Atlanta I was doing a Braves pickup and kept getting Uber X share I was steaming bc there is no extra pay. I dont want my PAX rating to fall and you cannot turn it off I tried. I guess the only good thing is Uber X share accept button is bigger than it typically would be but this sucks I had to turn down 3 Uber Share to get 1 Uber Comfort
I also work the Atlanta market and I suppose you have found this out by now but currently at the time of this posting our acceptance rating is not affected by refusing to take shared rides. Just ignore them as I do. However, since they have become so popular and so many drivers are not taking them I fully expect in the future Uber will begin penalizing drivers for not accepting them.
Yeah I am fed up with Uber. Took a 15 mile trip that took 25 minutes and only made 10.74 Took another trip 1/2 the distance and made 10.00 standard UberX Ride. Ridiculous
If Shared rides are calculated the same way extra stops are...that's a No Can Do for me. Passengers will add a stop, get charged $5 and keep 90% or more of that $5 while the driver gets to waste more time and gas.
I NEVER take shared rides. If I accept one, by accident, I cancel it. I've done one shared ride. It was horrible. The riders were from opposite ends, of the SES spectrum, and they did not get along.
Other factors you didn't mention, are A. You don't have the option to pick up a shared ride, but then log off in advanced so that you don't get an additional shared ride... it will give you one anyways if one is requested.... and B. Shared rides don't equate to multiple rides. If you picked a shared ride with 3 riders getting picked up separately (which happened to me today!), it will not count as 3 rides.. only 1. So the entire hour I was giving a this triple shared ride, I thought it was going to count as 3 rides towards my bonus... but it didn't. Just 1. I will never do shared rides again for that reason alone.
@@JC-mn2ll We have to continuously make it on our terms dodging every obstacle that comes our way...We should not have to put up with Uber rules as independent contractors.. I am building my own clientele soon enough I will be free from these chains.
The cheaper the ride (shared), the cheaper the rider (no tip) and the more likely your rating goes down and/or a false report is filed Uber where *you* get de-platformed and *their* already cheap ride becomes free. That’s my experience with 1 of the 4 Uber pool rides I gave out compared to the multiple thousands I’ve given overall. Like someone has already said, I will *never* voluntarily provide a shared ride.
Shared rides are in the nyc suburbs however when I open preferences there isn’t an option to turn it on/off. There is no opt out in the notification of shared rides in inbox either.
When they did it before some riders were pissed. I would pick up one rider then pick up two more and then drop off one rider while the first rider was still in the car going to work. I got one yesterday and it automatically came in and I cancelled it
I am a Uber driver 95% of the time, so, if this happens to be what they are doing, I will use Lyft 100% of time, even if I make a (few bucks less). It’s not going to kill me or make me as this is not my main source of income.
After completing 10K trips in 6yrs, ubershare or pool is the worst experience. 90% of the shared riders are giving false low rating, complaing, demands the 5 star service with no tip and if possible free ride.
They are forcing in Spain. They have it mixed but you can close your session with your first rider on board and reopen session when she gets out. That's how I get around it
Chris your posting alerted me in the fact that currently I don’t take share rides but because in San Francisco having a Diamond rating with the priority queue at the airport is a must and last month I took a couple weeks off (my first month of the quarter accruing points to reach Diamond tier), so I’m way behind in my goal of 800 points per month, I’m turning my share rides on today to speed up the point count. That’s the main advantage of Uber share as long the destinations stay within the geographical radius of the first ride.
I was wondering how this worked. I was Soo pissed yesterday. I showed up at the mall not realizing that four people...FOUR Just came to my car..and just hopped in👀😳. Now, my car is only comfortable with two, in the back, not 3 and a possible....in the front seat...😤. It happened twice.🤦🏽♂️ My car went from comfortable party of one to a club UberX in minutes. It didn't say shared y'all. Not one time. I'm thinking I'm picking up one person.🤔 😖... What do you do when you show up and there's a village trying to catch a ride. Drive off? Then when you say why, they can still give a bad rating and that impacts. What do ya do🤷🏾♂️
Hmmm, your post confuses me because a shared ride request is for 1 seat only per requester. If four people got in on a shared ride you were supposed to cancel and that is a canned option "too many riders".
I am glad I saw this video. As.a frequent UberX rider, i was curious as to how that all works for drivers if they have preferences as to the type of rides they pick up.
@MileHighCatMom, my fear is picking up two different riders who get into an argument in my car. Share my work for airport shuttles but uber. I don't know. More people in your car. Is it more pay or you get paid once?
@@Poppinoffchannel i cant speak on more pay. I never thought that. Faster rides for bonuses yes. But shared in my experience is where your rating takes a major hit. From cheap people wanting more cheap free stuff. At the drivers expense. But yea ive also had people not get along and that can really be scary. Here they dont allow shared to, or from the airport thankfully. We already have pax catfishing cars using diff tiers thinking they get more luggage space.🙄 Comfort on Uber and Preferred on Lyft.
I considered doing shared rides when first it was ok after pandemic restrictions eased up. Almost nobody was requesting or they were too far away to be worth the effort, so I stopped altogether. Now I am no shared rides and these days I'm less inclined to do multiple stop rides as well.
You don’t even know the ramifications for that lol I wish I could tell you what happens afterwards when you do this, but not gonna feed people free information. I’m not here to help others not with you but at least it’s everybody for themselves.
It's weird because earlier this year, and only very briefly (about a day or two), there was a standalone selection/checkbox for Share in the trip preferences. They relatively quickly removed it. They obviously botched a code deployment.
They wanted to give us the choice originally. Then Uber realizes no driver wanted Share so they moved to a stronger position to push driver adoption. When I take a share on accident, I turn off future requests. That's the most efficient thing to do for me, and also hurts Uber's ability to earn more on the program.
I think shared is not good because Uber sends you to the next stop without your consent. I turned off sharing and in 1 week the only thing they gave me was 2 pickups. I went with Lyft.
Yep. Can confirm. uber just launched shared in my market (Tampa Bay). uberx & ubershare are bound together in a single option. I'm sure the reason is simple, in markets where it's two separate options, not enough drivers are turning it on.
You need to pay close attention that Uber specify that you can decline share rides without negative impact on your Uber account and that is meant that you can decline all of share rides without any problems.
Guys IF YOU CANCEL AN UBER X RIDE YOU WILL HAVE A PENALTY. They don’t even classify it when it’s on the screen as a share so you have no idea until you accept it. I’ve had 3-4 passengers being added and these dumb passengers don’t know how to add the proper amount of people entering the car. Especially the ghetto people who live on food stamps. I’m tired of doing dangerous areas but my rating is 4.99 4000 rides. The ghetto has been lowering my rating to 4.95 and I’ve worked hard to keep it back up to 4.99. Every lyft driver is a 5 star driver 😂😂😂 My tips are at 23%
I'll take it but once I accept the ride I hit stop requests until I'm close to the drop off and it works I don't get another shared ride. So basically turning it into an uber X.
It’s always your choice to accept UberX Share trip requests. If you do reject primary UberX Share requests or cancel requests along your route, you will not be penalized and it will not affect your Uber Pro status.
It will count. all unaccepted request are considered a decline. In a human sense no, however the Ai in the algorithm goes by numbers. Therefore it counts.
In Washington DC we have the X and shared. I did notice more uber green request by passengers because I own a hybrid however I don't know if it's a coincidence. I was looking to see how to opt-out but no luck on youtube.
Drove alittle last night one after the other shared rides cancelled every one of them. They can lower my acceptance rate all they want, unless shared rides are paying a considerable amount more, will continue declining. Even if these rides do pay more there is this: About a year ago, a driver took a shared ride. One of the riders was schizophrenic had a gun, shot and killed other rider and the driver. The driver was from Queens, NY.
Really a disappointing turn of events. I drove shared rides a few years ago with Lyft, and it's like driving a school bus. A pain in the butt, without any real benefit to the driver. I don't want strangers getting to know each other in my car, and also don't want to always have someone in the front passenger seat. And riders that are so concerned about cost as to want to share their ride are likely to be lousy tippers. Hopefully, it will be so unpopular in my city that they dump it. I've been trying to get support to add Uber Comfort to my preferences (I have Comfort Electric and Uber Green), but no one in support can seem to figure out why I can't see Comfort, which will be even more important to have as an option now. I've spent about five hours on the phone with support about it so far.
This happened to me. My Uber x preference was missing and a new box appeared that said Uber X and Share. I called in and they fixed it. I now have the choice.
if they really wanted to push it they should make sweet weekdays and weekend share ride promotions for us; pay us decently and we turn up, and give us the option to opt out if we don't want it, let us decide if we want the extra $
Exactly. When they first rolled it out, it was a choice to opt-in, then it disappeared, and came back combined because Uber knows that drivers will uncheck the box
Drivers are afraid of the stigma UberPOOL had, they fear Uber X share is going to have the same headaches that many suffered in the past such as extremely low payout, endless matching, & picking up up to two riders per location. Uber X Share guarantees only two riders are matched, they ride in the back seats & rider's pick up location are 8 minutes apart going the same direction no more back tracking to pick up a rider according to Uber.
now in Chicago ...what a horrible thing is a sharing rides ...as night driver , taking sharing rides is nightmare ...taking drunk/drug person from the bar , and then pick up person going to work ! Hell NO!
In the Las Vegas market they just recently combined UberX and Share within the same preference check box in the app. They are obviously pushing "shared rides" again for some reason? I guess I will now need to pay extra attention to what type of ride I choose at any given time. I'm not too keen on "shared" rides for a variety of reasons. I think most passengers would rather experience a "private ride" without any additional passengers even if it did cost a little more. All this just complicates things a bit more.
the unseen problem with shared rides is you will not get the pertinent information, there might be times when you get offered a shared ride and you will not see the total price or drop off location because Uber might add three more people to that original pickup, you will not have a choice about whomever Uber adds and they will pay you about a third what they normally would, any of the shared writers can cancel and you will not get a cancellation fee, if you cancel on them because there's more than one pick up for instance you will get penalized for canceling, you do not get a record of where you are taking the second third or fourth passenger until you drop off the prior passenger, shared rides can result in at least 30% less normal pay
Share rides suck. I find I earn $1 less, or often several $ on during a good surge. Occasionally I accept them and don't realize it's share until I pick up the pax and start the trip. When this happens I turn off new requests and take them directly to their destination as I would with UberX. Saves myself the time and potential headaches. There is also increased liability for drivers and Uber clearly does not compensate us, or insure us to account for the increased potential risks. It's also wack that we can't turn off share. If we can say no to pets we should be able to say no to putting 2-3 strangers in the same car.
I've done Uber share rides, -not cost effective to drivers. And the pax I picked up.Did not like it!!!Reaction!!being people don't want someone else knowing where they live and how they live , it makes them very uncomfortable,- it brings the stranger danger sense up, !Quoted from a pax when I drove in Atlanta especially coming from the airport or a day of shopping.
@Brent how long have u been a driver? As u know any car qualifies for X. Comfort is larger newer cars. Not necessarily more expensive. My van qualifies for Comfort. Having them combined isn't good or bad. It will just keep him busy. Nothing wrong with that.
@@j-rschmoove 6 long years. Newer means more expensive. A three year old car will always cost more to acquire and depreciate more per year/mile than a 12 year old car.
I worked last night ( Sat) and the entire night we had multiplier that covered 100% of our area due to two vary large city events. I did not receive any of the multipliers nor the surges for the ENTIRE time that I worked. EVERY trip should have had a multiplier with it but not one of them did. I know what the customers were charged for their rides and for whatever reason I was not paid the correct amount. Most of my rides last night were in the 1.5x range and this needs to be fixed. This was my first time as a new Uber Driver doing the surge and multipliers and it has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Please tell me that this is not the norm and you pay people correctly and what they are worth.
How do you know there were multiplayers or surge? Yes this is normal. Wish I could share as to why and how we get the surge. But I’m waiting on these experts to tell you guys and they haven’t. I know how the entire app works and what the algos are and when they change. I predict my night before I walk out the door and I’m off buy$2-3
I don’t want to do the shared rides. And I won’t. I am loosing a lot of money lately because of this as it is all that Uber is issuing in my area. But I am standing my ground and hope others quit taking them too. But they I am guessing they are still doing them. I refuse to let Uber rip me off any longer. If doesn’t get better this month I will have to leave Uber all together. Tired of not making money.
I think share is a tremendous liability for the driver and will never accept them. What if late night I get a young woman who is drunk and a guy joins the share whose also drink. Now he starts bullying her or hassling her in some other manner. Am I supposed to be the cop who breaks up the fight? This is another of Uber money makers that abuses the driver. I’ve expressed this to Uber telling them if I’m an Independent Business Owner than I should be able to manage my business. They instructed me that the “workaround” is to shut off additional requests as soon as I get the first shared rider! That means I have to log on again after I drop that rider and won’t have a trip waiting at the drop off. More lost money!
They will increase the wait time on shared . In Las Vegas riders take their time going to the pick up place . In Las Vegas we pick up at rideshare pick up areas . On Uberx they have 7 minutes . One share rider said I will be down in ten minutes . Like that would happen . If the customer calls and say they are somewhere else then by the time the call is over the red cancel comes up . After 2 minutes there is no penalty . This is bad for riders in Las Vegas .
I take a vacation in Las Vegas this week, I found out a lot a Uber drivers doing the cherry picking here! The only drivers want to pick up the short trips is they driveing the old car during the prime time 😂❤ I don’t want do the share rides ! Just spend little more time to wait my car , I am not in a rush 😂
Today out the blue I received a shared ride and the rider was so pissed at the fact he had to share the ride with someone else. He said he didn’t realize he selected a shared ride.
I don't think driverless vehicles will be viable even in 10 years! Mixing driverless cars with people will end up in many crashes and even death! The only way that I can see driverless vehicles working is if every single vehicle on the road is driverless.
It is the platform at this moment, the one that pays drivers the worst, in Florida and the one that has "promotions" to users, with the profits that are stolen from drivers, it is a true scam for the owners of their vehicles and carpooling is a waste of time and money for the driver. More than 14 hours a day sitting in your car and only earning 8 dollars an hour on average, with trips of more than 45 minutes for 7 dollars, it is a real robbery
Share ride is new in my area, and So far, i have declined all shared ride requests, only because I think my current passengers would not want to share their ride space with other people - so far so good with no negative consequences from Uber - but I wonder how long will Uber allow us to decline share ride requests? If it is profitable for Uber, then most likely it would be for the drivers too, since we are only picking up share ride that are already on our way to the final destination.
After picking up a shared ride, I turn off new requests. It's worked for me up until now, I've never did a shared ride. I really wouldn't know how to do it
It may or may not pop up for you to pick up another rider as you have a rider in the car already. That person already knows there's a possibility you will get another request while you're taking them. You have the option to take or not take it. Either way, it's more time waiting on other people and I don't know that it's all that more profitable because you're doing maybe two instead of one ride. It's only good if you have trip number based quests.
In typical Uber fashion they included the combined checkbox in the last software update I did, 4:14 so this morning I picked a girl up and was taking her to work and there was a pick up for another person and I said oh we’re picking someone else up. She says I don’t know, I picked a shared ride, which was a complete surprise to me. The two girls actually were telling stories about getting into a shared ride with guys that were coming from the bars and were trying to pick them up the whole time they were driving, so it’s a nightmare, waiting to happen, I don’t want any part of it and I guess I have to pay closer attention to what rides I pick in the future
My ratings went down bc shared riders, get mad they have to…share a drive. Then blame you if the other person gets dropped off. I’m in the NYC area and it’s expensive to even drive here, mandatory TLC licenses, your plates have to have TLC approval, they capped TLC plates for sedans so your forced to rent. It’s expensive. Now they want to pocket dispatch cost and pay us the same rate for 1 person while they get paid for 2. I contacted support for days bc they recently forced my account to accept shared rides by combining uberx. There’s no option to opt out for a week now. This has to be illegal. We should have a class action lawsuit against the greedy corporations.
I'm glad I live in an area that doesn't have pool share. I live about 70 mi from LA. I know it's down there but I have it disabled in my app when I end up in the area though. Most of the time I turn off my app when I end up in LA cuz I don't like driving in that area. I usually try to go towards Orange county or Riverside county or try to go back to my home county in San Bernardino county. I prefer to stay in San Bernardino county cuz it keeps me close to where I live and it's still quite busy and I don't have to deal with the traffic like it is in LA. I do hate LA traffic so much that I tend to just screw it and just head back to San Bernardino, Riverside or even Orange county
Currently in my market in Atlanta we are not forced to accept Shared rides as we can ignore them without penalty to our acceptance rating but we cannot turn them off from appearing because they have been connected to UberX in the preferences. I also just received a message that yet another change has been made to shared rides allowing shared ride requests to now take "two" seats. I suppose enough people complained about being cancelled on because they did not read the "terms" of 1 seat only on shared rides. Of course only one of the riders can reserve two seats so that info may even have to be manually entered on the app so the app does not pair the driver with another two seat request. I myself have stopped taking shared rides since I do not like not knowing where I am going to end up since with co-riders added we have no idea where they are going. I had an add on end up going 75 miles away from town and decided to stop taking that risks anymore.
Here in Australia we always had uberX/share together and we call the uber share as uber pool here. People by mistake book uber pool thinking its uberX and we have to confirm before the rider hops into the car.
Currently as of this posting we are not penalized for denying shared ride requests but I expect that to change in the future since shared rides have become very popular with riders and less so with the drivers. Therefore I expect Uber to begin penalizing drivers for not accepting them but time will tell.
I love shared rides and if more people cancel because they don't want them this may open up more rides for my market . I'm having a hard time getting rides and when I get them the people say they're having a hard time getting a ride too. Of course I tell them to check Uber Comfort it's not much more for a Newer car with an older driver 😂
I have separate UberX and Share and UberX by itself. I feel that because I only have UberX checked, I am being denied requests. Last weekend I made less than $10/hr and still need to put gas and I am on a rental.
Not here yet but got notice of it coming. sorry, I have zero interest in this. sounds like it will be super stressful and I don't want to have to babysit grown adults and make sure they are playing nice. I dont get paid enough as it is!!!
I hate this feature, I accepted a trip, thinking it was ONE TRIP going around the corner come to find out, it was a second trip that wasn’t even shown when I accepted. I was picking up a female plus her friend along the way. So when I got to the second pick up and since they were friends I just explained to the 1st girl that I was unaware of this second trip. So I canceled the trip and left the 1st girl with the 2nd girl because the trips were so far away from each other and to the Final Drop off for $9.00. I could u understand it better if both trips were close to each other. I hurried up and turned that feature off. Uber is getting over big time, thinking of just doing LYFT.
Kinda off topic but the heat map here in western Massachusetts has been terribly broken. Im an experienced driver and very familiar with where I need to be and surge trends in my area. The heat map has sometimes been nonexistent some days. Now I’m seeing the grey purple unknown surges. AND the app has TOLD me I’m in a surge at the bottom but yet there IS NO SURGE COLOR. UUUGHGHG sorry. Support has not been helpful so now I’m here spreading the word to y’all that up here in western Massachusetts it has been very very frustrating. ✌🏼
I’m in the Boston area and found it so aggravating, I turned off the app and went home. My Lyft privileges are wanting for a new TNC inspection and I’m renting a Tesla from Uber in the meantime. Never again!
I got a bonus offer for like $120 for 40 rides - the next few offers only got like $30 for 40 rides. It’s like daylight savings time, cutting off one end of a rug and sewing it on the other side.
They control everything when the driver is busy in the surge hours, I always have the 4.9 ⭐ rating on riders to stay away from drama and trouble makers, when I go to drop off in a high crime area, the rider rating option disappear
They used to do this with UberPool. They had it with X at the same time before the pandemic. So far X share is still separate in Los Angeles. Lyft was smart enough to abolish shared rides. Thankfully, there’s some California markets that most likely will never get it at all.
Share is called 'pool' here in London UK where I drive and it's always been connected to x since its introduction a few years ago. Luckily passengers after trying that in the first year seem to hate it. I haven't received pool offer for years now🤗. If they try to send me that, I'll decline/cancel straight away. It should be separated preference from x for sure.
