I remember it like it was yesterday: watching Google announce the Pixelbook on stage at the 2nd-ever October hardware event they hosted in San Fransisco. It was a crowning achievement in my eyes, seeing a Chromebook up on stage right alongside the new Pixel hardware. And, even though it took a lot of the tech media a bit of time to come around on the brilliance that still is the Pixelbook, I was mesmerized right away. I knew it was an important piece of hardware and that it would shape future Chromebooks in significant ways.
It did that - there's no question about it - and much of the Chromebook and Chromebook Plus landscape we have today is thanks in no small part to the impact of this exceptional Chromebook. But what about 7 years later? Does a device that was so amazing in 2017 still hold its luster so many years after its launch?

I left all of Google except for RU-vid, starting in 2020. It's because they drop everything they do. I just have no faith in any product or service they make. This was a stunning laptop when released, and amazingly still is a stunning laptop today (minus the bezels of course). If Google just stuck to their guns and stood behind their products, they would have a lot more success stories.

Bought mine way back shortly after it launched. I use Windows at work; Mac at home and travel; and neither were progressing much. I missed my Macbook Air 11" and thought that in terms of hardware, the Pixelbook was what the next gen MBAir should have been. So, I figured I'd try it out, and it "kind of worked" in my corporate environment, and finally just relegated to the sidelines. Now, with Office 365 and everything going online, and the improvements in Chrome OS, it's far more productive than it was. I agree... I wonder what would have happened if Google had kept up its development.

Confirm three times that you accept the risks (although the risks are small. With CCD you can restore your Chromebook even without a bootloader). 4)Wait a minute or two. The script itself will open the BIOS flash drive for writing, download, prepare, install, and close the BIOS flash drive for writing). At the output you will get a standard coreboot. I still think it's the notebook/tablet with the most amazing design ever, nothing is coming even close to it. I also still love my top-spec i7 (the i5 in my first Pixelbook wasn't really slower in doing the everyday tasks I asked from it), although it struggles a bit nowadays, so I'm using it less than I used to, now that I own a very nice Lenovo Notebook that's also very slick. The Pixelbook drains the battery even when fully shut down and sometimes it needs quite a bit of tlc to make it turn on. Nonetheless I was very pleased when I recently read that updates have been extended again by another 3 years to then full 10 years. Absolutely great, thank you Google!

With regards to style and build quality plus its great performance at the time, it was the best Chromebook ever, and I wish Google would produce a later day equivalent, but this time with a top end Arm64 processor, e.g. next gen Google Tensor G3 or Snapdragon X Elite class. For me, all Chromebooks since then haven't come close. My last Chromebook purchase was an Acer Spin 513 Chromebook with MediaTek Kompanio 1380 arm64 processor. It's a good Chromebook but based on the quality of latest Chrome OS release for this Chromebook, Google appear to have lost interest with arm-based Chromebook's, like Google lost interest with making their own Chromebooks, Stadia, and the list goes on, and will include Chromebook Plus and the new Google Pixel Tablet (a great tablet) in next 1 - 2 years.

Are the updates still going to stop in June of this year? Hopefully google has expanded the update drop date. My pixelbook is with my son as his backup computer at college. I was still using it until he took a couple of years ago. I purchased the Galaxy Book (Red) last year new for $500 and it is nice but the Battery life driving that OLED is so short compared to what I was able to do while traveling with the original pixelbook. Thanks for the Video

Well I did look it up and the updates are now 2027. So more years to use.

The design is awesome. Battery ? What is troubling with Google is it doesn't put much effort into its pixel line up as it should be ? See its website ? It still thinks itself as a software company. Apple is far ahead. I am a pixel user but I am not happy with its service.

I bought a Pixelbook Go, 4 years after it's release I love that device. Didn't like the original Pixelbook that much because of the really thick bezels and the convertible style.

7 years later and no Chromebook comes even close to this. The Chromebook market is doomed with 4GB devices that google has guaranteed 10 years of updates, essentially locking the whole ecosystem in a low spec downwards cycle.

Using mine now to watch this, and forgot how smooth it is. I also found a used one with super low battery usage i5 in great shape for 100 bucks on facebook marketplace. Snatched it up for my daughter.

My battery was a dud, but bought a complete used device, just to get the battery. I don't want anything else (ever). The pixelbook turns heads and I just wish we could still get brand skins for it. That made it the best looking device ever.

Sadly my pixelbook died almost 4 months ago. I was using it like any other day all day and had several tabs open. Which was normal for me to have at least 20 tabs running and then i heard a small pop or cracking sound and it went to a black screen and shut down and was totally dead after that. It was a sad sad day. It was my daily driver since 2018. But i really loved everything about it from day one. I have looked at a replacement from other makers but they don't have the style or class the pixelbook had.

If Google improved this and re-launched it today (as a Chromebook Plus) I would probably buy it

Can the Pixelbook extend it's display across two external displays? I'm taking my venerable Samsung Chromebook Plus into the office and while it will extend onto a single external display, when I plug a second display in it simply mirrors the first and I don't get a single spread across the two external displays - I've since found that some of the older Chromebooks were never designed to be able to extend over more than one external display but it's not easy to find which ones do allow it. This would be a good test to add to your reviews as more of us are being forced back into offices and looking for a twin monitor solution.

I still can't believe how smooth this pixelbook is. (core i5 / 8gb ram) I recently started using it daily again along with a usb mouse. It would be nice to replace the battery at some point down the road. Great looking machine

Seriously, if they remade this today, same exact design but with a 14-inch oled display and a better peak brightness, along with thinning out those bezels I think it would do incredibly well in selling.

I loved mine, except for how much the palm rest yellowed. I put it on top of my car to unlock it, and got distracted and forgot to grab it. The Pixel book did not survive the highway 😢

Just ordered one off eBay. Funny how an amazing device like this makes it feel like technology advances slowly, when everything else takes that long to catch up.

I love the Pixel book. It still works super amazing and fast! The only thing is the battery is a little bit bad. Otherwise again, everything is great!

I wish Google would release another version of this! The 3:2 screen is so hard to find in Chromebooks. This couldn't be a huge burden on the hardware team, right??
