Lindy and Carol represent the new 70 year old women not afraid to adventure and live their lives. I'm a little younger but close behind them and I feel the same way. If it's something you want to do, do your research and preparations and do it! Don't listen to the naysayers and folks that are afraid to do anything outside of their comfort zone.... Sending both of them love and light. 💐
Thank you for another great video! Your channel is terrific. I'm 62, and had lived in a Class B for almost two years until a brain tumor sidelined me. After surgery I made a 5 year plan -- growing stronger, saving money and planning -- and I hope to get back on the road in 2025. Your videos are so helpful! I hope to see you down the road.
@Julie A. hi. sry about your brain tumor sideline. but i'm glad u enjoyed living in class B for 2 yrs. glad u made a 5 yr goal about growing, stronger, saving money, making plans and hopefully getting back on the road in 2025. god bless u and safe travels
Love your videos, Carol! You, and all the beautiful seniors you interview are so inspirational. I took the plunge this year at the age of 65, and I'm SO loving the adventure! 🥰
What a wonderful vlog of these two beautiful ladies. I’ll be 65 in April. I want to retire end of 12/23 or 12/24. Thinking of ITH as a home base with a Rv for travel. I love watching the ITH Vlogs!!❤
I am so happy I found you! I have learned so much about Van Life. I love your interviews and getting to see how people prepare their vehicles for this life style. Keep up the great work!! 😊
I loved going in my Honda element. Seats removed in back sometimes. I was so comfortable + i enjoyed getting out meeting others. People help each other. I cannot do it anymore because I need a powerchair if i need to get out and walk. Most can use manual chair. It beats being imprisoned in an apt. Alone. Isolated. I commend you ladies. I'd do it if i had someone to join me. I know it's possible. Happy travels. I will be thinking about you. It's so much better than watching TV! Thats not doable. I'm 68 now + I would not want to be driving all the time. Again the more people you know the better you will be!
As long as you stay safe, healthy, research 100% and have a backup plan.its better than just staying a prisoner in your home alone with pain in your body from not moving .
As a healthy and vibrant 68yo retired ER RN, I travelled fully as a young woman with a backpack in Europe and Asia, then became a flight attendant where I travelled internationally. I am grateful for that early experience; not all persons can do this I know. As an RN, I saw lots of these elderly vanlifers coming into my ER...it was a mess for them, their pets and families. With all due respect, I can understand a temporary time being homeless and living in a van or car, but it is not smart, safe or advisable. I am now living in a USDA subsidized senior/disabled apartment and easily live on $1650./mo. If I put forth the effort, I meet as many people as I desire. These lovely ladies need more life planning. I hate to tell them, but thete will come a time when you need help bathing, changing your adult diapers, cook for you. Sorry, but it's the truth.
I agree and disagree with your comments. As I do not know the circumstances of the women living in vans who came in to see you for medical care I cannot comment on them. What I can say is that I have literally met thousands of older women living as nomads. Some by choice and some by necessity. The difference in attitude and quality of life between the two groups as you can imagine is great. If a person has the ability to plan and prepare for this lifestyle it can truly be a joyful experience. The friendships made are remarkable and often lifelong at an age where often one's social circle is shrinking. The places visited and the sights seen can be beyond one's imagination. But just the opposite can be true if someone goes into this kind of existence unprepared, with unrealistic expectations, and as a person reluctant to reach out and make connections. It can be devastatingly lonely. You are correct when you say these ladies, as well as many others, will quite possibly need help at some point if they live long enough. That is why they are both looking into tiny home communities. They are intelligent and thoughtful women who are mindful of the longterm limitations of van life as they age and possibly won't be able to drive among other things.
As someone is is 65 it saddens me greatly that those of my generation and older must live in their cars for some not out of choice but rather because they can not find affordable housing. This says a lot.
Imho the main problem those two have is they were looking for the housing in California. Many other states run their low-income & elderly housing programs differently, and while there is probably a shortage in every state, the waiting list & time is much shorter in other states usually.
@@suzend46 I understand that, but these two ladies for example are already mobile, so if they chose to look for housing in another state they wouldn't be as encumbered as you are.
These interviews are amazing and much needed. I Spent a year or so living in my 4runner about 10 years ago. Living on military disability, exploring and meeting great people. Wish I had this channel back then. Now in my 40s, married, house, kid, and living the "American Dream", I remember how easy it is to have a few bad months to be homeless. Some just 1 paycheck. This channel reminds me to live simple, but LIVE! Also, to have compassion for my father in law who is in his 70's, simi-nomad with his camper parked on our property. Long story short, us millennials see you, and have much respect. Thanks.
@@christyeichhorn5333 Ik I feel really sorry for these poor people that aren’t being treated with respect. We still accept these people and hope they are treated with respect
@@christyeichhorn5333 The government raided social security years ago. Now what's left is given to illegal immigrants and able bodied Americans who concoct disabilities. 21st century welfare.
It is exciting to see my step-sister Lindy at the RTR. I'm living the van life with her vicariously. Thanks for featuring her and Skoolie Carol in this video. xoxo
I'm presently approaching 65 and thinking of taking my life, home, and RU-vid channel on the road. You beautiful ladies make a dream feel like something I could actually do. ✨️ thank you for this and can't wait for more. 🤗❤️🔥
I'm 62 and just bought my Ford high top 350 and am building it out myself. I kept putting it off and getting more and more complacent and somewhat grumpy, feeling like a mushroom in one place. I've never had a car payment in my life, but bit the bullet and took out a loan for this van. LIfe is short. Now I'm fixing it up, slowly but surely, all by my lonesome. All this to say, if you can, just do it! Take the first step, it helps a lot. Good luck to you!
@T S I'm in such awe of you ladies.. and that's how I sometimes feel... like a mushroom, an experiment. Very secluded in my lonely apartment. Thank you for your kind inspiration. 🤗
I met a guy down in the desert around Yuma who was 82 and extremely spry. I was shocked when he told me his age because I would have said 65. He had a VW bus and a trailer with a Harley on it. He was changing the axle on his trailer and crawling underneath fixing a vacuum line problem on the van. Amazing!! In Falcon Heights down on the extreme southern Tex / Mex border I camped with a lady who was 75. She was great. I am 67 and this is permanent. I'll die in my rig.
I love Randy, I've been watching him for awhile now. I'm living in my airstream full-time off-grid out in the middle of nowhere and I love it. I'm 65 and I'm divorced, I've been doing this for 4 years now, traveling a bit, doing a couple of RV parks while deciding where to settle and ended up in northern Arizona. I have my dogs, cat, some chickens and my little rescue guinea pig. My windows are full of veggies. I'm hoping to move into a container home this summer that my good friend is going to help me renovate. It's important to eat as healthy as possible and to stay active, Exercise and meditation is important for me
@Dawn Randy is so generous. glad u love living in your air stream full time off grid. hope you're doing ok in north ARI. good luck trying to move into a container home and the help you'll need to renovate from your good friend. it's important to stay and eat healthy. being more active. god bless u in your mid 60s. sry abut your divorce. safe travels
Me too. I just turned 68. For now, I'm watching RU-vid videos about tiny house/skoolie/van life etc to learn all I can. Biggest quandary is finding the money to purchase a vehicle... My gut says it's going to happen even though from where I stand now, I can't imagine how.
I'm 69 and will be turning 70 in October. I'm planning to be living in a motorhome or van before then. My kids and many friends think I'm crazy. I have to because I can't afford rent. I've been doing my research and found it will be more manageable on the road.
Carol I just love to see the interviews with the older ladies. I always share these kind of interviews with a multitude of people because, I would love people to be out there enjoying life and not be stuck in the house after retirement or whatever their vices are that keeps them from enjoying their latter part of their life and I love that you do it as well (boy do you) stay safe and happy travels. Hope to see you soon.💜🥰🤗
@Lisa P (LeLe fr: Cali. 🌞😎) I’m glad you love the interviews from this channel. Ik you want some people regardless of the age to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and get active but some people come and go. Stay safe, happy travels, god bless u 🤗
She really is a great interviewer isn’t she. I’m only in my mid-50’s but I think it’s great she’s focusing on the older folks. Nomadic heroes they are.
@@pacjam418 she’s a great interviewer with a great heart. I’m glad she’s helping those older people before their time runs out. She’s a hero and so are they
Thank you for your encouragement and inspiration! 🎉71 years young here. I researched nomad life for three years. Sold my house and been waiting 5 months for my Ford Transit 350 to be built. Should be delivered in two months. I love traveling! I’ve camped for years and love it! I’ll be in the same financial situation on a fixed income. I’m beyond excited about my new adventure. Hope to meet all you amazing gals soon! 🤗🙏💜
@N B congrats researching nomad life for 3 yrs. hopefully you'll get your Ford Transit 350. glad you love your camping experiences. good luck with the same financial situation for fixed income. your new adventure awaits you. good luck and god bless u
Hah! Loved this! Four months ago I sold everything, bought a conversion van, gave up my apartment and hit the road. I left cold snowy Michigan behind and headed to Florida. In a week or so I will head to Alabama. I am having a blast! Oh, I forgot one small detail. I am 83 years old!😂
❤my kind of person 88 yesterday heading out in 3 weeks.takes all kinds Never worry about the small things. Just live and be kind None of us is that special, life is fleeting. Laugh at yourself.god bless stay safe
Yes please, this video was very enlightening. I just turned 70 and my priority would also be the height would be a big priority along with the bed. The bed needs to be high enough to easily get up to go to the bathroom. I came up with a toilet a couple of years ago. Real complicated: Two five gal buckets that I got for free from a restaurant and, I guess you would call it a booster toilet seat that you would put on your existing commode. I got it from Amazon for $25 and it fits on the buckets like it was made for just that. I got two buckets because we could not get them apart. I just use the $Tree kitchen bags and some kitty litter, and dispose at least every three uses.
It blew my mind when your two quests mentioned Incredible tiny homes. I am an Independent Sales Representative for their Incred-i-boxes. Please, thank them for getting ITH's name out there. I honestly feel their company is going to help so many, find affordable housing. I'm 67 soon, and hope to van up and travel this year. Love from California ( Rep: 0024 w/ ITH ) Maybe tell the ladies, that I can save them $500.00 on each purchase, if they would like. Much love to all.
Please make sure Randy hears about this video. He mentioned second guessing if his Increda Box would be welcomed by the people attending. Here are two more lives he is making better!
I love road tripping and car camping but I don’t care for chatting with strangers. I lived in a 28-unit complex for close to 30 years. I talked to exactly 2 neighbors a few times. I am not antisocial, just shy and no skill in small talk. Now I live in a retirement park. I know the close by neighbors because I am the youngest so I wanted them to know they can find me in emergency.
But you're chatting to strangers in here! Everyone feels shy initially when meeting a stranger in real life, but practice makes perfect! That's the secret and that's all it is.
I'm 66, single, stuck in an RV for over a year now, small pittance of SS and a small business side hustle. It was supposed to a temporary situation. I hate it. I want a house. I want to flip a switch and heat or air comes on. I hate having to dump the black water or worry if the water pipes might freeze. I hate cooking on a stupid gas stove, that costs a lot of money monthly. No one wants to hire an older woman. The refrigerator is small and inconvenient. My dogs hate the confinement. I hate having to walk them several times a day instead of letting them out into a fenced yard for exercise and relieve themselves. I miss having a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom or two, a regular bathroom. I can meet people all the time. I'm not going on the road just to meet friends. It is NOT an adventure, it is a horrible lifestyle. I think these older women ought to put their resources together and buy a house together. I would seriously consider doing that myself just to get out of this stupid RV.
I hope you get a house. I would feel the same. Listen I’m a dog sitter. Once you get into a house with a yard consider it. It’s awesome and lucrative for older ladies. I’m 70 and have been doing it for years. I only watch small senior dogs.
@@kristinjayne6720 My side hustle is as a mobile Dog and Cat Nail Trimmer. I can't groom in the RV, so this is the seond best thing to do. Dog sitting would be great too, but not in an RV. Too many limitations in an RV.
@@brendalaird6942 if only who was currently in control was the easily solvable problem. This lack of respect and care for our oldest and most vulnerable started decades ago. It’s what we’ve allowed as a people. Remember when mental health facilities were closed and people were bussed to other cities like trash in the 80s? That’s my first memory of it. It’s on us.
Yes ITH is a wonderful place for seniors, or any age for that matter. Randy Jones’s a very hard working humble man, and all of his communities are safe & beautiful. He and his staff build affordable tiny homes for all budgets. God Bless these to woman for sharing their journey. Tiny make sense….👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻❤️🇺🇸🏠
How wonderful it is to see women in their 70's, fearlessly living a nomadic lifestyle. So happy to see that there is a sisterhood of travelers for companionship & support. I love camping in my SUV, and hope to do more of it this year. As long as I have a comfortable bed, toilet and the ability to make coffee inside my car, I'm good to go. I'm thinking about renting out my home and going on the road, but I need more practice. I also have two little girl doggies that will go with me. lol
@Elsbith Rumble it's very wonderful to see these brave women living in a nomadic lifestyle in their 70s. sisterly love is spreading good vibes of traveling. Hope you stay prepared for camping and traveling in your SUV. good luck renting out your home. keep up the good work and god bless u and your puppies
“I want a last adventure in life” that was a profound response. When you arrive at the end point of life, what truly matters is that you’ve had a great one. We can never get everything done but it’s better to be in the middle of doing something that truly matters. It’s the most self-loving expression. But yes, there is a cost to it and sacrifices to be made. But who cares?? It’s your life to live and no one will be truly sorry if you don’t, except yourSelf. ❤
Thank you for sharing the stories of people over 70. I am 71 years young, on SSA and don’t have a vehicle as yet. Looking for an inexpensive SUV to travel and live in for a bit before I can’t do it anymore. Can’t wait to hear more from you the stories you capture about Van Life and being a Nomad.🎉
I'm about to turn 72 and am in the same spot you are but I have physical issues and so I have to think long and hard before I do this kind of life change. Good luck on your adventure.
These women are truly the pioneers of breaking ground for the next generation of women I believe it's harder to live in a van or in a car for a woman that than it is for a man And these women are doing i t And they're doing it good They're showing us it can be done over 70 ladies You are our heroes
Breaking ground for the next-generation to be nomads, not developing roots and careers and families?? Not paying taxes, participating in community life and breaking laws all over the country wherever they go? It sounds like a nightmare future for the Next generation.
@pat fiore some men and some women live in different vehicles because they don’t have a house to live in yet. These women are our heroes and we want to thank GLOW for their service
I wonder if those ladies know there's a $10,000 fee, aside from the lot rent and paying for the home, to live in a Randy Jones community? It's for the property, but you don't own the tiny lot, and it's payable up front with no financing. I imagine someone that has to live in a van because they can't afford rent can't come up with $10,000 for property they won't own. I get so sick of hearing what ith is doing to help older women. . He's taking their money to pay for his infrastructure to build communities, and then when they leave or die he can sell it again. I may have to buy one of his ugl-i-boxes out of desperation, but I won't live in one of his communities. I'm not in the habit of giving $10,000 gifts. If you think I'm lying, research it by going back through his videos. At first he admitted it was for the infrastructure, which most developers install before selling property, but he either can't or won't get loans to develop his properties so he makes people pay for it upfront, and they have no ownership interest, not even a co-op, interest in the lot. So he flat-out said it was for infrastructure. Then after I and a few other people questioned it, he started terming it the community fee or neighborhood fee. This week he started calling it the key cost, the fee for the opportunity to live in one of his half-developed shanty towns. And if anyone thinks I have a chip on my shoulder, you'd better believe it. I was ready to go for one of those $200 lot rents before the subject of the $10,000 ever came up. So even if you think you're done your homework, dig a Little deeper. Don't just listen to the videos. Read the comments from people who question that. I get shouted down by the cult, by the true believers, but it's true.
It's pretty easy if you don't sweat the small stuff You never need as much as you think in your van. If you don't like the camp conversations much.. move on quickly. Don't let any negativety get you down. If you wake up alive, it's a wonderful day
@@barba5537 it depends on the person in life. it's good to be prepared for van life. they should think about the positive and not the negative. everyone knows tmrw's another new day.
I am glad you are putting these videos out! I am inmy 50's and AM working towards this (while finishing my small degree!) and yes, I agree do your homework! Also don't listen to all these young people who make it sound like it is easy and glamorous! WE NEED MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!
Your right about health ! I'm only 61 with heart conditions & auto Immune disease 😔 I was working 16 hours a day until I ended up in Emergency Room for my heart working at 20%. I was a full time nomad living in my daughter's 🚗 car. I have had to stop traveling and enjoying the nomad lifestyle that I love so much. I have great doctors and hope to get well enough to travel part-time as a nomad. Ladies you give hope & are inspiring 🙏 ❤
Good question yes it does last year a lady died in her van in AZ. That elderly couple got stuck in RV and the man died in their tow car. Seniors should travel in caravans when possible don’t have to park close if that is a issue. Always inform someone of your route, drop a pin, just use common sense.I am a retired LPN and worked nursing homes 32 yrs. These are things to think about. It’s important for us to take care of ourselves have a healthy lifestyle. I had weight loss surgery in 2017 and lost 100 lbs but not soon enough.
@@kimberlyknight4973 oh no sry for their losses and I hope you’re doing ok over there. There’s some hospitals for those needs, foster homes and care spreading around the globe
Great interview Carol ,with Lindy & Carol ! I'm still dreaming desiring to locate MY VAN / vehicle & join you all as a NOMAD on the road. I am renting a room now , so plan to take this year to eliminate 99 % of my stuff buy THE vehicle & enjoy traveling again. Looked @ the option of buying a Tiny home from Randy Jones this past year. That may still be plan B . Other options for me include moving to Mexico or Portugal because I want very affordable housing , NON GMO CLEAN FOOD & the ability to either be very near the sea or able to go there often . Already have friends living in both those places.. .. Blessings to you Carol 🤗 thanks for all you do. BTW I'm now living into my 80th year here on Earth as of December 18 2022 . I'm fully retired except for pet care jobs periodically.
I’m 69, and will be full time in a minivan come June. I’d hoped for more ceiling room, but it is what it is, and I’d far rather see the country! I’ve been researching and waiting for several years, plus years of camping experience. My Soc Sec won’t allow me to drive as much or do campgrounds as much as I’d like, but disability prevents working. I may be able to sell some art for cash. As for limitations, my toilet is a self built separating-easiest option!-and the necessary 18” high. And my current pup will be able to begin working as my service dog by then, as well as being a bed warmer, so that I can hike a little more. I figure I’m good till I’m 85, and not sure what I’ll do then.
You are absolutely right about not worrying about the taller ceiling! I’m not as mature as you are, but I’ve been NOT making the progress I should on the Tall Van I have. I have your disability/income problem. I hope you are out there doing it!
I bought property before I retired, in Co. I LIVE OFF GRID, DID MY OWN SOLAR, I have 2 water cisterns and haul water with my little utility trailer, also make dump runs. I have propa ne heater, diesel heater and wood cook stove. I have chickens, milking goat for milk and cheese, a sheep for wool and grow a garden and can, pickle, ferment and dehydrate ( in the sun) I love it!!!...

I would love to meet and chat with both these ladies. I agree that Randy Jones’ homes are great alternatives for stationary and simple living as well the community of people they attract are very similar in lifestyle values. I love hearing your interviews with so many interesting people who are older and have chosen this lifestyle.
Hi Lindy. I've been living in my van for 11 years now. I'm 64 this year. I live in downtown Huntington Beach California. We have a lot in common. I hope I get to meet you one day? It's cold here now being January. I just wanted to let you know that Hot hands hand warmers work great under the covers. One will last 8 hours. So try them out and and see for your self. You'll be surprised how good they work. I also am on SSI. And will most likely live this way the rest of my life? I,m so alone living this way. I wish I could meet more senior people like us. Most people that live in there and here are on dope or there a seen.
Why don't you come spend thr winter in Quartzsite. Yiubwould jeet a lot of other folks. Only $180 for from Septrmber 15 thru April 15th, although September and Aoril can be quite hot. It includes water, trash and dumpsite at the LaPosa South Long Term Visitor's Area BLM.
Fun ! I admire these ladies so much ! I am disabled with spondylitis & psoriatic arthritis. But I hope and pray I can experience van life or bus life before the good lord calls me home. God bless these precious ladies! Leslye
I love these two women! I hope when l am in my 70s l am a badass like them! I’m looking at 60 soon and after a 2 year hiatus of sticks and bricks living l miss traveling and have saved up for an off road/off grid trailer that l will be pulling with my Jeep Wrangler. I plan to hit the road in August and work in Alaska next summer. I did work camping with a bigger trailer for 2018-21 but wanted something smaller and more self sufficient that l could live in and get away from crowds of people in. Not every nomad wants to meet and socialize with other people. The people you approach are approach you are the social butterflies and naturally represent their own kind so it looks nomads are very social. I’m sure many are but not everyone is into being with people. There are many of us who go to great pains to camp as far away from people as possible and definitely don’t want to be interviewed or bothered. But we’re here and live life on the road and not looking to be with others.
@AJ F well I hope you stay prepared in a house with sticks and bricks. Glad you’re saving money for off road grind trailer. Have fun on the road in Aug and have a nice next summer in Alaska. Some people want to go somewhere away from big crowds. Nomads are different regardless of who they are or where they come from. God bless u
I tried vanlife for a year...I don't do enough research....I know what I need now...I'm 61 and rents are getting ridiculous and it a matter of time before I'll be priced out of decent apartments 😊😊
I feel so sorry for those two ladies. Having to work at their age and live in a bus or a van is a shame. I hope she gets her tiny home, I love that company. That would be so much better. 💗
Thank you Carol - great interview. I am 62 (and a half!) and have 1 1/2 years left to work to get a small pension, then, God willing, I’m hitting the road. I want to go to Mexico.
Where do you wash your clothes, at a laundromat? How do you keep warm in your vehicle in winter? How do you cook? How do you wash your body? I’m new to this in England, scared 😢. Not much income/no family.
You and these ladies are just the type of kindred spirits I would love to meet and to travel with. Thank you for interviewing these beautiful women and please, thank them too!
You ladies are so inspiring! I am living in a condo and I’ve thought about selling out and hiding in the woods off grid but that might not be feasible because if you need to move in a hurry, you can’t. I’m very sensitive to cold and I live in the state of Ohio, so it doesn’t help much but if I were to ever jump into van life I would have to figure out what I could use as a physical address, because I know certain things require one. I’m learning by watching all of you for when the time comes that I may be ready to do this and join you all on your adventures but in the meanwhile, I will keep watching the videos. Thank you. 💗
Some how this was sent in two replies. The first half is below this comment and should be read first. I'm 66 living in government senior housing and feel stuck. If I work my rent increases and can't afford to do much. I'm gonna work this year paying down the little bit of debt I have. I am also doing my research and my son is going to help me become a nomad. The only fear I have is if I will regret it. But I have to give it a try. Hoping to be in quartzite by 2024-25.
Well arent you special and i guess very boring I have water front property. Valuable. The thing i enjoy more than anything else is camping Appreciate peoples differences. Loosing up
What is NOT realistic is that people are all in such bad health and giggle if you tell them their life style is the issue (eating processed food, too many times a day, no exercise...I call RVers the ,"seat and eat club" because for 90% of cases that is all I see them do). Your 70s should not feel too different from your 30s... IMO.
@ Nancy Brand i totally agree. Inspiring the ladies are so adventurous, brave and well spirited yet sad that such a powerful nation has failed our elders, living them uncared for and abandoned.
I need this interview I been doing research and I am 65 hopeful by next year or two I will be there with you girls...Just trying to find what I conformable with to drive..
thank you for this carolyn, i am in a rented room after a short stint on the road in 2020, and i miss nomad life, but wonder if i am getting too old to make it work. these videos of nomad women in their glory years are very encouraging to me. bless you all! -eve
@Eva Ennis sry u missed nomad life. these glorious nomad women are caring and supportive to one another. it depends on each person to make van life after 70 work. god bless u
