My take is that SW is not NSBM but isn’t exactly opposed to it either. CSM was the last album that contained NS lyrics and it came out nearly 2 decades ago. Even for those kind of lyrics, SW has claimed that it’s for shock value and that he’s not racist or fascist. But SW is associated with several outright NS bands like Goatmoon, Aryan Blood, Gestapo 666. Rejecting Semitic religions and advocating pre-Christian heathen traditions is what he has in common with the NSBM scene. I guess we can call SW NSBM-adjacent, which I’m personally okay with as I avoid bands that are full blown racists.

I remember seeing a couple of those on LP and buying them immediately and they had great artwork that was a tribute to metal classics (one was all classic Black Sabbath and the other was Slayer). Then there was the one with the Fallen Angel of Doom tribute art, which I got on CD, but to my knowledge, the LP release never happened, although it appears to have been planned. Did I miss it somehow? Also, why did the first two Hell's Headbash shows get DVD releases, but the third one didn't? Those were some cool DVD releases and I have both. I can't imagine that I just missed a DVD for the third one. Or did I somehow? Anyway, keep being J-Dawg/I-Dawg/Justin and putting out these videos. Tell Reaper to get back to some Hellcast too. And yes, people want to hear your stories about Konya and various bands HH have worked with, etc. Never met Konya, unfortunately, but I am a longtime Nunslaughter fan. Some of the members of goatmoon have swastika tattoos. But the vocalist and sole lyricist says his music isn't really affiliated with his personal views, it's mainly topics of finish folklore and pride for his country.

People are racist due to having bad experiences with other races or because they hold negative stereotypes to other races. Racism also does not seem to give someone pleasure like believing in a religion does. The latter means you hold an opinion that isolates you from the majority.

I think there was a moment in Europe somewhere around 2013-2104 when a lot of nsbm bands stopped labling themselves as nsbm, not so much that their political views changed but it more or less went out of fashion in terms of labeling. Im a swede and to me and basically everyone in the black metal scene here its just accepted as comon knowledge that Satanic Warmaster is NS (i mean ”My dreams of 8” haha, i dont think he is connected to a political movement though?). My italian friends was touring Finland recently and got a bunch of shit coments from Mr Werewolf about them not being white, not that they give a shit about his opinions, but it stuck to my mind. This video is interesting though because i think that there is generelly a bit of difference between America and Europe when it comes to these discussions. Since half of Europe was bombed to pieces and mass genocide did happen, i think people here are less likely to give these bands the benefit of the doubt. Specially if you come up with a title called ”Gas Chambers”- thats going to stick over here.

I've discovered so many great bands by way of people telling me not to listen them, I don't even need to search for new music anymore. Wild to me people feel the need to agree with or like musicians to enjoy the music.

Last point I want to make. I'm a Christian and I don't push it on nobody and I have no problem with satanic metal because to be honest, one, I'm not the one who has to answer to God if he turns out to be real, and second, I love ultra guttural vocals and high screams, so I don't know what any particular band is saying without reading the lyrics. I find that I enjoy the music more when I don't read the lyrics or listen to interviews with certain bands because I don't agree with 90% of a lot of stuff that bands I like believe or say. For instance I specifically don't like that acab mentality because my father and other family members are retired from the police force and I respect everyone individually until they don't deserve it. To believe all cops are bad is in itself a form of discrimination, it's no different than judging one by skin color. I don't even know why I have to explain this to anyone. But just because I don't like a bands politics, religious stance or anything like that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the music. In fact I don't want to always be only around people who think and exactly like me. I can't enjoy the good things without being exposed to the bad things which makes me appreciate it more

Goatmoon definitely is racist. You don't have to do a lot of research to find that out. You can literally google Goatmoon and one of the first things you see is a swastika and other racist symbols and most of their music contains racist / NS lyrics. Satanic Warmaster also has an EP with swastikas on the cover and he has had some questionable lyrics and song titles in the past. Even if a band isn't explicitly racist, they still might often use dog whistles that point towards racist and right wing extremist beliefs. To be honest most of the finnish black metal scene is pretty sketchy and I'm from Finland myself.

What you mentioned about separation of church and state made me think of separation of art and artist too. Some Antifa criticism seems to be not really based on obvious racism in lyrics, but on an artist’s character or history. Which brings to mind Wagner and also Inquisition. The character flaws of the human are not promoted in the music itself. I might think twice about being friends or hiring them as baby sitters, but that’s not their role in my life. Their role is to make awesome music. That’s what I’ll judge.
A lot of those bands that get accused of being racist use some of that “questionable” imagery just for shock value and to keep posers away from their music. Also goatmoon says if they had to label themselves they would say they are “national romantic”.
Have to add, if you're not aware of it Upsidedown Cross would make your day. And agree most NS sucks, early Nokturnal Mortum, and do enjoy some Thunderbolt and Temnozor. Stuthof too. But eh I think they (meaning Acherontas really) are like Akhyls and just kind of into certain symbology and a bit of shock value.

It's only racist if we knew the context. If it was a matter of historical record and was being told from the perspective of the one doing the killing, I mean when you watch a movie with the good guys vs the bad guys and the characters playing the bad guy uses racist language, do you say that the actor is racist for reading of his lines from the script or is the film maker screen writer racist for including it in his film. And what if the film is detailing actual events as they were documented. The problem with people today is they lack logic and reason. Just because a band has a swastika on their album, does that make them racist. What if the concept was exposing crimes by racist regimes or something like that. Anyways I don't know any bands that are into that area of music. I listen to deathgrind and goregrind. So it's mostly pathological gore and porno goregrind.
As a Christian, I listen to and support tons of music with blasphemous lyrics and imagery. I obviously don’t agree with it and I’m personally against that kind of thing, but I don’t try to ruin it for everyone else, and I don’t see a lot of Christians trying to do this to the metal scene. Their beliefs don't affect the quality of their music, so worrying about what they believe is pointless. They are easily one of the greatest bands of all time, regardless of whether they want an ethnostate or not.
