I can't believe Derrick is not on the podcast, except when i realize they explained the situation multiple times, and i should accept that that's the situation.

I mean xbox is in the inverse situation Sony is; Xbox as a brand is a low, but Windows and Microsoft are still at huge highs with no real threats going forward, and can support Xbox and Gamepass, since it helps bring interest in the brand as a gaming ecosystem among multiple platforms. Playstation as a brand is at an all time high, but Sony as a company is more or less at an all time low, since they've gotten rid of their phone brand is long gone; their laptop brand is long gone; their TV, Speaker, Headphone, A/V Receiver, etc., are a small portion of what they were; and they're literally supported by the West and PlayStation brand. You guys know well enough Kutaragi's Playstation was a small piece of the pie, even going into the PS2 era. I guess that's part of the thing with Apple too and their headset. Yeah, it wasn't the magnanimous success they likely wished it to be, but they can bank on those losses. And at least for the time being, since MS is clearly wealthy enough for XBOX to buy Activision Blizzard King, they and their shareholders are willing to play the long game even if the current and last generation haven't gone their way. Weirdly though, because I've switched to PC gaming, I don't really get the strong appeal to either. I know there's the ten or so million hardcore gamers who will be buying many games for the PS5 that are exclusive, but it feels odd to me how many people swapped from Xbox 360 to PS4, only to basically play the same games: Sports titles, GTA, CoD, Battlefield, etc. Hell, you even oddly had people swap from 360 to PS3 literally to rebuy GTAV and other such multiplatform titles. I'm starting to get a sense that why people choose a console has gotten far more complex than back in the day, since back in the 90s/early 00s, there were fairly obvious reasons, and the exclusives or semi-exclusives did matter. But now most exclusive titles in the top ten most sold titles for a console almost always coincide with a pack-in release. Again, maybe being on PC again, since that's what I grew up on before getting a GameCube, has kind of neutered any sort of brand loyalty, but from an objective stand point, it seems like most people seem to prefer one console over another, just to play games available on both. You'd think, statistically, people with such interests would buy both equally. But apparently not.
