As a Yankees fan I appreciate you making this video. I love old Yankee Stadium and I miss it dearly. The way the fans felt like they were right on top of the game in the field level box seats and the upper deck created a special intimidation factor for opposing teams. I consider myself lucky to say I saw my first MLB game as there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with Bob Sheppard announcing “good afternoon and welcome to Yankee Stadium.” Honestly though I wish they had preserved much more of the *original* original Yankee Stadium the way Fenway and Wrigley have been preserved. But what people don’t realize is that original Yankee Stadium was falling apart. The original stadium was built in less than a year, and the renovations were commissioned by the city of NY and the CBS ownership group. George never really liked the renovated stadium and spent basically his entire tenure as owner trying to get a new one. What they built isn’t the old stadium, but it is a beautiful, more intimate park that feels like Yankee Stadium. my seats in the LF bleachers are no longer a mile away from home plate as they would have been in the old stadium, overall it’s a really nice place to see a game. My only true gripe is monument park being hidden in a dungeon behind the wall. Monument Park should be in a place where it can be seen at all times, we’re the Yankees since when are we modest about our history?
10000 percent agree about Monument Park. It should be in a place where every fan can see it and enjoy it. History is for everyone, and it should be accessible and tactile and real for everyone.
Having been to the old one, I agree. It was incredibly outdated, obsolete, and yes falling apart. Not to mention incredibly crammed. Having also been to the new one it’s a *lot* better. At least they even preserved some of the old remnants in the new one. And the original site is now Heritage Field. So even the site got preserved in a way
The new Yankee stadium is a well done homage to the original stadium, pre and post-renovation. It’s a great place to see a ballgame and I very much enjoy doing so.
The thing about this stadium is if you were dropped into it, its immediately recognizable as Yankee Stadium, even if you took away the big lettering inside and outside.
Monument Park should be in the Great Hall. I agree. The Great Hall looks like you're entering a Roman palace. It's absolutely stunning looking. Why not include your teams Hall of Fame in there somewhere instead of being hidden behind center field?
@@9999bigb the only problem is that it’s one of the main gates to enter, would be covert congested with people all the time in that case. I like where they have the memorial to the boss and the retired numbers would be very nice behind those bleachers. Probably just not enough space.
@iiDiDuRMoMzZ then find another spot. You and I both know that place is huge. You could easily cordon off some sort of part of the Great Hall for the Museum. However I understand what you mean, plus the "grave markers" were always out in CF at the old Stadium. The Yankees are amazing, and yet hindered sometimes by their amazing history.
I agree with what you said about people having rose tinted glasses about the old stadium. I love that place, we all did, but eventually it was going to collapse if they didn’t build a new one. And the new stadium basically feels like an updated version of the old one to me. Also you mentioned the bowl game and how awkward that field is, but not the fact that they try and squeeze an MLS pitch onto the the field for NYCFC?
Honestly--the new YS does have some good points--especially the open concourses. I LOVE being able to roam around the upper deck and grabbing a spot on one of those standing room tables right near the rail to catch an inning or two--that's a really cool feature! BUT....BUT...BUT...the old YS had that gritty, intimidating atmosphere that no other sports venue on earth could ever duplicate! Look up the video clip of Ruben Sierra and Don Mattingly hitting back to back homers in game 2 of the 95 playoffs against Seattle. When Mattingly went deep the Stadium literally SHOOK! I was there and will never forget that moment for as long as I live! THAT's what the old Stadium was like!! The new YS won't ever have that kind of atmosphere--hate to say it but it will never have that kind of magic!!
@@willisaprilFenway is a dump. Of the two old stadiums in the league, Wrigley is old like an antique, and Fenway is old like milk. Been to both in the last year and Wrigley is so much better.
Not quite - the architecture helped make it louder. Most most importantly, it was catered to the fans then. Now its catered to people visiting the city from other countries making a tourist stop + corporate events.
As a Yankee fan I think the new Yankee Stadium is as perfect of a stadium you can have in New York. It’s a modern version of the old stadium. I have it in my top 5.
Very Nice If you Have Hundreds Of Dollars to Spend, There Is Nothing to really enjoy there without spending so much, unless you have a Credit Card obviously, which is why prices are so high for basic Soda And Franks or Beer.
The new stadium is beautiful, the problem is that it is not "The House that Ruth Built" and doesn't have the history and awe that the old stadium had. Sure after the renovations of the '70 it wasn't the same stadium, but it still was exactly where the greats played. It wouldn't be so bad if they had built it on the same spot.
Its features for fans are underrated. The field and the aesthetics deserve all the criticism they get. They should've: -brought back the 296 RF line from Old Yankee Stadium -Had the 3 foot fences in right/left field -deepened the allies a bit more (though they'd never go as deep as pre-1973)
I think the stadium is fine. But the problem I have with it is that it's in a different site. It's really not anyone's fault. When I went to the old Yankee stadium, you felt the Aura of greatness that took place there over the years. You look in right field and say to yourself that Babe Ruth actually stood there. I think it would be the same exact for fans of the Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox if they moved out of their stadiums and got new state of the art ballparks incorporating many aspects of their former homes into it. It may look nicer, but the historical Aura would be gone
A lot of this is true, but you gotta factor in the mets building a new ballpark. Maybe that was the impetus for Yankees ownership to not be outshined by a new ballpark cross town. Also, while the old Stadium was indeed incredible and historical, it was also literally falling apart and seen better days in some respects. Lines for concessions were long and it was less modern. The Yankees did this thing right though by building a new place well after the dynasty was done and making it a lot like the old yard. I suppose I could go on
DP Ginger: thank U-4 the skinny on Yankee Stadium. You said the cost was 1.5 B in 2009 because of such outrageous construction costs in NYC. I read that Citi field cost 1/2-price (or $750M) in 2009. Why is that? Please re-dissect the economics of both NY venues w/ follow up video. thank-U!
I went to two games in 2015 and you can tell it was designed to squeeze every penny from fans. Upper decks were moved back. "How can I help you?" People really there to keep you away from the rich people. Every fan I overheard or spoke to, liked the old stadium better. Went back to NY the next year and saw two games at Citi with better seats at a lower price. Their fans liked their new stadium better.
There cheap seats. I went there for the first time a few weeks ago for a game against the Orioles, during the week, and tickets weren't any more expensive than any other park I've been to.
@@paulweeldreyer7457I went to a game in that same series and got seats in the second row of the second deck, midway down the baseline, for $25. It's super affordable for weeknights and even the most expensive games aren't as insanely priced at Yankee as they are at Fenway, Dodger, Truist, even the Trop, etc.
I slightly disagree. Anymore, it seems less people have patience to be inconvenienced in the slightest. Not to mention with a retractable roof, there would be no concerns for inclement weather. I think 10-20 years from now more stadiums will have them Despite the costs
with monument park.. it was never going to be elevated.. you need to understand that in pre-70's renovated yankee stadium.. the monuments were in center field.. yes, the flag pole and the monuments were in play(though there were quite a bit fewer back then). Where it's positioned is relative to where they were in post reno yankee stadium. Once you realize that, you understand why it's where it is. That and the netting is to protect those in the park during the game from possible fly balls.. it's not meant to be seen from the seats in the stadium... that for the game..
I've been to this stadium 4 times. It's a good stadium in terms of the seating I've been in the jim bean suite which is in section 320. perfect view to say the least, Twice at the toyota terrace was the old obstructed bleachers in the outfield and I was in section 215 right field. This stadium is underrated.
The new stadium looks like the Tokyo Dome in centerfield - it doesn’t look like or have the ambiance of the original Yankee Stadium. Great that you noticed it has such nice tile - big bleeping deal! Have a clue!
Bruh I bought 6 dollar tickets once just eat food before and put vodka it a water bottle and hide it in your nuts and you can have a blast with 20 bucks
@Tim Thanks for the video and reply. I think it's a great stadium however it does lack the old fashioned charm I was brought up with. Today's stadiums have all the updated modern emminites and fully understand it does have that expensive corporate feel. I am partners with a couple of groups that have player named suites which cost $15,000 per game.I feel spoiled and wish never to return to the box seating.
@@willpomeroy7711 well 2022 I got 6 bucks plus fees and tax won’t see that anymore because of the budget and inflation but recently saw 11$ tickets on stub hub for the marlins series. Granted those are the cheapest tickets you can find in the stadium.
My thing is, when they built the ballpark, why did they replicate it? Why not instead build a totally different design that can carry on for the next generation of fans?
I am a diehard Yankees fan and I think I can speak for most of the fans. The fans wouldn't like a different design by and large. We don't want a trendy, domed ballpark. Tearing down original Yankee Stadium was hard enough, but building a way different place would be hard to accept AND it would be an insult to great Yankee tradition and legacy. The new Stadium does have a few new elements, such as the bigger video board and restaurant in center field etc.
@@RB01.10 that be helpful sure, but that help also costs lots of money. It's not mandatory in the MLB to build a dome or roof on a baseball ballpark, and certain teams (Yankees, being chief among them) has a fanbase and ownership who doesn't want it
@@stephenm8725 A fanbase that doesn’t want it? They don’t mind the weather related issues etc ? There was a retractable roof for the new stadium being floated around at one point in the early phases but it didn’t happen. Same with Citi Field. If you know better, you do better. And with the very real issue of the climate changing I would still factor in the weather becoming more extreme as the years go on. But for the owners, let’s be real here. They have more than enough money to afford a retractable roof but there’s no way they’d spend it, probably why it didn’t happen in the end.
I don't love rainouts either (I've been affected by one at the old Stadium), but you shouldn't put one on Yankee Stadium. It's not Yankee tradition and yes the fanbase would be against it to even think of it. I am aware they tried to get a dome. They have money sure, but that doesn't mean they are obligated to get one
@@EaglesFan202 It was on the original Yankee stadium and it carried over to all the rebuilds , it was honestly just an “ out of the blue” idea the original architects had when they first built the stadium ; it’s really just a remnant of a bygone architectural era…
being someone who used to sit at bleacher creatures section and upper deck of the old Yankee stadium. It's not fun. The bleachers is being segregated. While upper deck is really high and far from the view. I've seen so many cracks on those steps coming up to upperdeck and people trip and falling. The new stadum was much better, i can go from bleachers to upperdeck. ANd being modernized, You can walk around the stadium without missing any action of the game at all. so many of us standing near the exit at the bottom of the ninth. it was fun and intimate. It's underated. The odwnside is those legends seats. Made it like people dont go to the stadium. Every other sections are packed.
I like the look of the Yankee's stadium, but they did what the White Sox did... not highlight the beautiful skyscrapers in the background. Granted, Comiskey Park is facing away from downtown Chicago, for some odd reason.
@@michaelsoto7152 Oh! LOL, you can tell I only know New York City from the films, but it would have been cool if they had the stadium next to some skyscrapers, like PNC Park.
I often hear comparisons from the old stadium and the new one. Other than the fact that legendary players played at the old stadium and that so many championship were won, the older stadium was nothing crazy to look at. From its location and aesthetic it was pretty blah and i get it the nostalgia factor plays a big role in opinions, but more times than not the only characteristic I hear in regards to the old stadium is “IT WAS LOUD” nothing more.
Bro keeps trying to say people only dislike it because we hate the Yankees, I live in the area and I’m a Mets fan to be honest, but most of my friends and family that are Yankees fans agree that it’s really not that good, parts of the stadium seem like your in a subway, and no not the parts where you can literally see the trains (kind of like that kind of hate it). A lot of the stadium just has nothing to it besides pipes and concrete.
The stadium isn't the problem. The crowd is. You either deal with rude, aggressive, hardcore fans that don't make you feel welcome at all. Or tourists. Or actual New Yorkers who just go to impress their boss or their girlfriend, even though they know nothing about the sport. CitiField please.
the new yankee stadium isnt good because it should have been built around the old field. people want to see the same field, ruth, gerig, mantle and jeter played on. it was a huge home field advantage. there was no reason why they couldnt have knocked down the old stadium and built around the legendary field. also i'm happy they got rid of those bleacher seats . that was a major knock. you couldnt see balls hit to the outfield. speaking of ny stadiums i cant stand how the mets dedicated their best real estate to jackie robinson. the moment you walk in there is a huge jackie robinson rotunda. he wasnt a met! it looks like dodger stadium. he deserves a plaque and his number retired but not a whole damn rotunda from an opposing team. they barely have a mets hall of fame
@@tim8801 it wouldnt take much longer to demolish, but even if it did if the stadium is going to be in exsistence dor decades iwould hae done it. i would hace had the yankees play in shea or even metlife stadium
The New Stadium IS too Small, Also Looks Like A Softball Field Smaller, Only 408 to Centerfield. Should Be 430 Ft @ Centerfield. Also, the new Stadium detracts from the vibe. Too Pricey, the ones who can afford are not real Fans, they are wanna be show themselves for luxury only. Too Fancy and too Expensive.
Why tear down old Yankee Stadium? I'll tell you why. The most evil owner in all of sports history, George Von Steingrabber. The Roman Coliseum still stands for over 2,000 years. "The House That Ruth Built" for less than a hundred. The history not only with the Yankees but the N.Y Giants. Also great Heavyweight Championship fights with Joe Lewis & Rocky Marciano. Makes sense doesn't it? Let's demolish a stadium that held close to 70,000 & build a baby ballpark that holds only 47,000. All in a city that has 9 million. Do all this just so his rich friends could have luxury boxes. The destroyer of baseball got his way. Funny, never heard a peep from Yankee fans when the wrecking ball arrived.
Cheap owners fault, Mets used to not spend a lot until they got a new owner now they have the most expensive team, go support your team more and they can afford free agents or hope someone buys the team.
I can’t believe they tore down the House That Ruth Built. I mean if all the history that place held doesn’t make something a landmark worth saving then what does? That’s all I’m saying. Even if they took the old girl down to her bare bones they should’ve saved her and be playing on the same field as all the greats. Grateful to be a Cubbie Fan cause we’ll have Wrigley for generations to come.
The original site is now Heritage Field, so at least it got *some* preservation. And the new one has a history section/ museum . But the old one was falling apart (many think the fallen concrete incident in 1998 accelerated the need for a new one). Not to mention it was very outdated in the end and crammed (especially the bathrooms). I also think the structure in Yankee Stadium was different than Wrigley and Fenway
the old one was really bad at the tail end. It was really beat up. It didn't built like fenway or Wrigley field. Everyone loves the concourse for the new one. I did a lot of standing in the ground level to watch the game with others. Can't do that with the old one.
I would like the stadium if Yankees fans weren’t the worst category of fans in the MLB and it’s a god damn little league field. The dimensions are a joke
