Getting to my studio is the easiest thing for me. My struggle is figuring out what my 'style' is. I get paintings to a nice point - then I decide to try one more thing and inevitably wreck it. Then the challenge is bringing it back to something I like - which of course, is a learning experience - so nothing is lost. I can't tell you how many large sheets of Arches Oil Paper have paintings on both sides.

janet starr I SO struggle with declaring a piece "finished", and have taken most all of them too far.

My believe like yours is, that if I keep going, I will improve. I love to paint. There are two many genres and subjects and inspirations. I paint portraits, abstracts, semi abstracts, landscapes, trees, horses. Not small animals. Not sure whether this is a disadvantage or a plus.

You have been so inspiring. I currently have a beautiful art studio with every kind of art metals that you could imagine. And now I am so confused about what to do next. I think you said at one time you were confused about what to do with all of your art supplies. So you left it all behind and were more able to create art. I'm totally considering that approach. My art is not as good as it was when I didn't have sooo much. Any advice will be so welcome .

I have had a studio for 40 years, several studios in that time frame. It has always been my space, my escape. I sigh as I enter and leave a lot of worry, stress, exhaustion and the rest, behind... outside that studio door. I guess that element for me is not a problem. ~ something definitely is. Oh you just mentioned oil sticks. I love those things and have done some good work with them. They are good. But I change my process now and then. I work in pastel, oil, acrylic, oil pastels, oils primarily at the moment and watercolour is a big one too.

It’s so refreshing to listen to your positivity about art making. I have a part time job teaching children to read and write so this year I want to try and integrate art into that as a learning tool, then when I get home 🏠 to my studio it will flow on and not be so disjointed. We’ll see how it goes, could get messy 😝

Just the talk I needed today. I was getting down as thinking like what’s the point. The point is that I care. Putting yourself out there has been scary for years and so I had no validation, something that everyone cud use. I am going to get a virtual family now and get going if I can manage the internet thing. I have paintings that continually get shelved and my daughter is asking what am I going to do with all these paintings mom? Lol

Too much hype, not enough info. I'd never sign up for your course because of your lack of content and lack of focus. This presentation is constantly disrupted by plugs for courses and saying hello to online participants.
