In November 2022, the European Commission officially adopted the CSRD, a new corporate sustainability reporting directive that aims to provide a more comprehensive picture of companies’ sustainability performance. It concerns nearly 50,000 European companies that will be required to report their performance against a set of sustainability metrics, including resource use and circular economy performance.
Companies that are affected by the CSRD will have to report on their circular economy performance in 2025, which implies that the first year for which companies will have to disclose their performance is 2024. This requires them to start preparations in 2023 to identify their circular economy related risks and opportunities, develop strategies and performance, and start data collection to track performances.
However, the recent Nature Benchmark from the World Benchmarking Alliance shows that few companies are ready for this new obligation. Whereas 77% of European companies touch upon the topic of circular economy in their sustainability reports, only 22% of them include one or more of the quantitative indicators on circular economy performance that are included in the CSRD.
How can companies better prepare to report on circular economy and resource use as prescribed by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)? What data should they start collecting for the next corporate company report? What questions should they ask their value chain partners? We will discuss these and other questions during this webinar.
