I totally made this mistake this passed new year's b/c I was short on time. I undercured black gel polish and wound up with the WORST allergy. And now I can no longer do any type of gel without a reaction. :( 😞 Ty so much for this video b/c this is exactly what I thought happened and you've helped me prove to my husband I'm not crazy!! Lol
I always try to keep in mind about the thumbs and even tried curing a little longer. I always wondered why my thumbs would be so ugly after curing. I’d bump it and it turns out awful! PS - I have been a quiet viewer for years, you have a lovely patient spirit!
I wish I knew all this about 18 months ago. I both under-cured, and mixed 2 polishes with a different lamp. I later discovered the polish contained free HEMA. I wound up in the ER, was prescribed immunosuppressants, and all my nails literally fell off from the allergic reaction to the acrylates. Even the allergist was shocked at the severity of the reaction. Safety is important for manicures!
Was this just after first time application ? HEMA Free is usually good for people if they are sensitive or allergic to HEMA. If it was HEMA free what was the allergen?
Thank you for the tips about the thumbs! I don't get problems with pooling, but I do occasionally have trouble with wrinkling. That totally makes sense.
2 QUESTIONS 1. What about the other side of not enough: can you cure gel polish for too long? 2. Also, would increasing the curing time fix the problem of soft uncured thick dark gel beneath the surface? Or it doesn't matter because the top layer will cure and prevent any additional light from getting through to the soft uncured part?
Yes, you can cure it too long. It can cause yellowing in lighter colours and becoming very brittle. But in a case with a very strong color, the light just cannot get through hence causing the issue. So yes, the longer you put it under does not necessarily mean is caring at all. That’s why when I do a very dark color, I will build the nail with a clear free edge first. Then I can remove the form so now the light can get from underside as well. Also, it’s very important to thin so light but thick of course, that does not happen hence the problem.
this video is really important fi you start doing gel nails. I usually just did it without thinking that it could be uncured in the middle. Ive been doing nails for 6 years (self learned) and ive developed a very bad gel allergy sadly, i cant really wear any gel anymore and i suspect that it also came from undercuring and as well as skin contact. This is really helpful and thank you for education everyone!
Thanks. This tutorial helps a lot. Many times my gel breaks within days/ a week or I get a rash around my fingers. I don’t get manicures often since it kept happening
I would also suggest checking the wattage of your nail lamp. I bought this gel that wasn't curing with a 6w lamp. I bought a 48w, which did the trick. To stop the itching i buy allergy tablets.
I have different brands of gel polish. Some of which don’t have directions on the bottles. Is there a universal lamp and proper time? Or should I just toss and start over with one brand of polish. My gel always peels within a day or two.
i see the comments about overcuring, but what if you're doing nail art and working in multiple layers? are you overcuring because you have to cure the nails multiple times?
Thank you so much for the years of education! I do my own nails at home and I learned sooooo much from you! ❤ This video made me realize that may be why black seems to be the only gel nail polish color I have problems with despite all of my polishes being from the same set 😅 I will definitely try all your tips out - so thank you so much again
Hey Suzie 💅🏻 It's me Erin MacDonald I’m thinking about opening my own business and I’m just wondering which is easier to size full cover tips or half cover tips
@NailCareerEducation thank you I put a thin base coat on then in the lamp for 90 seconds then I put on the pastle colour only a thin coat then in the lamp for 90 seconds then just wrinkles other colours OK
Have u heard of or tried melody Susie I have a lot of their products their on Amazon decent prices as well just wondering if it’s a knock off higher quality or if it’s actually salon/decent quality thank you for this video very helpful
I’m self taught and I do my own nails (no extensions). I had this issue 2-3 times in the beginning. I believe one was dark red with glitter, the others are lighter colors but again with shimmer/ glitter. It was like an underbaked cake and was very difficult to remove since you can’t file it down. It was very nasty. I’m happy that I didn’t quit 😅
Thank you so much for doing this I just bought some black polish for gel last Friday and I tried to use it and had to file it off three times it was gross. And that's one of my favorite colors to wear on my nails but I only do regular polish not gel because I can't figure it out
so the issue im having is my nails peel like in a week, but like they are dry and not sticky on the bottom, there is no stuff underneath is clean but its peeling right off. i dont understand whats wrong. i was thinking it was my nails being damaged so i waited for them to grow fully and cut the old ones off, took over a month and now i tried again but still the same issue. any ideaS?
Keep in mind anything we can do on long nails you can do on short nails as well. Of course, with a long nail, you have more Nail estate to create and show off and exaggerate the design. But I’m short nails you just have to make the design much smaller or compensate for smaller Nail estate.
I've watched so many videos concerning this question I'm about to ask and the answers get so technical that I just get more confused: When using a generic lamp, will exceeding the recommended cure time insure that the product is safely and properly cured? Is it possible to over cure gel products?I'm so confused.
No the gel can never be 100% cured..I just learned this and wish i would have known a long time ago..they can only guarantee to cure at like 90%..so pretty much every time you have gel you will have uncured gel on. If you want to watch or learn more, go to light elegance channel and listen to Jim (the chemist of the brand) he talks a lot about lamps and gel..also the best lamp I’ve found is the CND lamp, newer version.
Not necessarily! Over curing is not the answer either. Optimum is using the Lamp the Gel Brand recommends. Only bc they’ve tested them. Yrs you can over cure which can lead to cracking and yellowing
What are the curing times for your Hybrid Gel products? I've watched quite a lot of your videos on Hybrid Gel, but I haven't been able to find curing times. Thank you!
Awesome tips! I've tried using hybrid gel, my structure was pretty solid (i had a tiny apex; also a beginner with minimal nail experience), but my nails still broke off at the apex. How can I prevent that from happening? They weren't that long off the free edge because I wanted a natural look and they seemed to be fully cured. I used a light blue color
Sculpting nails is quite the skill and figuring out these important details, custom to each each and every person combined with your activities there’s so many variables here. You may be adding the right amount of Apex, but make sure you’re completing that right to the very side wall of the nail near the stress point
Just starting to get into nail extensions (I've always just done my natural nails) so I'm curious if there's a reason to build the design into the nail like you did here rather than building the nail with a lighter colour and then painting the design? Especially if building with dark colours can be harder to cure properly?
For example, if you are wanting black French nails, there are several ways you can get it. My favourite is sculpting the black colour on the free edge right in to the built-in Nail. Yes, you can add the French black design after the nail is sculpted with gel polish or gel paint or even nail polish. But the end result does look slightly different. And it just depends on what you were looking for and your tastes and style. I prefer it built in because it is a smoother look across the top of the nail it’s much more finished in my opinion and much more elegant and professional. But some people are not concerned about the difference. You may also be using a black colour in nail art for example when you are doing an inlay, but I just went solid black to make it very clear.
@@NailCareerEducation That makes sense, I've never really been satisfied with how my ombres have turned out so I'll definitely have to try this out and see if I like it better! Thanks!
Hi Susie, my nails hurt when curing inside the lamp. Not always though, ànd some hurt more than others. Can you address that in a video? Is the nail tech doing something wrong?
It’s curing ( shrinking ) fast which causes pain for some people. There is a button on some advance lamps that cures slower reducing the pain. If they don’t have that you can hold your hand outside the lamp getting some light slowly/ creep your hand into the lamp over about 15-20 secs
Susie, could you talk or make a video about whether it is possible to develop an alegia from the use of UV lamps? I do my nails at home and it's very often and lately I've had allergies on literally all of my fingers even the fingertips. At first I thought it was because of the polishes or the preparations but then I thought it was because of the lamp, could it be that If I put sunscreen on my hands, will it help me?
I'm sorry to say, but it's more likely you have developed an allergy to the product. I've never heard of developing an allergy to uv. Unfortunately, a gel allergy is lifelong, though there may be a chance you might still be able to use HEMA-free products, as that is considered the most common allergenic ingredient.
Hmmm much more common to be an allergy from the Gel Polish . Firstly I advise you remove the Polish completely - do where gloves to prevent any uncured gel dust from contacting your skin. I’m Hoping the reaction clears up If you really want to pursue gel again I’d investigate with an allergist to find out what exactly what ingrediant is causing the issue
@@NailCareerEducation thank you very much for responding my comment so if that is the issue I am just screwed up right I Will never be able to do my nails again 😪 because is not with gel polish only is also with rubber base I haven't try with polygel to see if that affects me also
Just just note if you’re going to use a Market prep and prime I do suggest using it with their intended product- If you have any lifting issues, it may be because you’re using a prep and prime that doesn’t go with the powder
I feel like I was mislead by the title of this video. It doesn't specify what type of gel at all. From the other videos I've seen recently (that this person made) there are many different types of gel. Yet only one type is talked about in this video. So why isn't it specified in the title? I 100% wasted my time hoping she'd finally get around to the type of gel I use. Never happened. She only talked about the one. I find mistakes like this unacceptable from anyone, let alone an educator.
She actually addresses gel polish verbally. Maybe you missed it. She is using hybrid gel, aka polygel, or as she calls it ez gel. So the video actually does address multiple forms of gel and how to correctly cute them.
