Steps taught in beauty school: wash all washable implements in hot soapy water, soak in a germicide for 20 mins, allow to air dry & store in a air tight container with a fumigant. Never use the same implement on a different client without going through the sanitation/sterilization process!

I do my own nails at home and I don't do fills. I always start from scratch so I can learn the while process better. At the moment I'm wearing my 4th set and I feel like it already looks really good. I always get compliments in school and when they ask where I get them done and I say I do them myself, they're always shocked. I do my nails with polygel because it's easy to work with for beginners. I use tips but once u get better I'll start using forms. I always watch your videos to learn what's important! Thanks Suzie you're really helping me!

I just ordered a whole gel nail kit to try to learn to do my own gel manicure. I have been going to salon after salon in my area and i've never been completely satisfied with the service. I've tried about 8 different salons. They've made my cuticles bleed, had poor hygiene, i've had lifting the day after, whole polishes have completely popped off, i've had HAIR, bubbles, grit, all sorts of ugly things happening in the polish. So im taking matters into my own hands! :)

Good lord, finding a nail tech like you where I live is LITERALLY impossible. If I could afford it, I'd fly straight to Canada just to get my nails done. All the nail salons where I live are very low grade, and typical salons ran by people who just don't have much skill. Yet, they own a salon anyways. They are only capable of the VERY basics. How in the world do I find a "real" nail tech?! I just want good nails :( And how do I find a nail tech that knows how to use nail forms?! Ahh!

Just personal experience try find a one person or two person salon. If it's just one person they are likely to be a professional and will hold a license. They do tend to be more costly since it's a small salon and theres a lot of investment, but they seem to be best

@@user-bc4rn1jw7e .... I agreed. Some of the more experienced tech do cost a bit more. Question is, will people pay that extra ??? Hmmmm mostly don't... I know Suzie salon is not your typical Asain salon so it will cost slightly more. I am willing to pay 💞😀

Suzie, can you do a series on natural nails? I know you did a video on them, but I was just wondering if you could make some more in depth videos... examples... Do's and don'ts of natural nails, nail care, tools you can and cannot use to manicure natural nails (glass/ crystal file (what you think about it/ them), e-file, buffer, etc.), how to prevent breakage of natural nails, how to keep short/ shorter nails clean underneath, etc. I think this would be a great series. :-) I'd love to watch it. I'm a natural nail girl (although I do love watching any videos you make/ film) who likes to wear her nails natural. However, I wish mine wouldn't break when they get semi-long (sort of medium length). Anyway, a natural nail series would be great. Thanks in advance. Love you, Suzie.

@lauram5906 5 лет назад
@x0desertrose0x yes. This. I'm a tech with oily beds. If I'm doing them I'll dehydrate every nail immediately before I start laying product, and use 2 coats of primer. I've also found using hard gel on oily nails works so so much better than acrylic. I can't give you the chemistry behind it because I don't know why it works better, it just does. Try getting hard gels, as they might work better for you. Get them done at a reputable place, and let your tech know ahead of time that you have oily nail plates. Hope that helps!

I find that using polygel and poppits are so much easier! (I’m a nail tech, but became ill a year after qualification. I didn’t do my own nails for over a year due my unexpected and chronic illness as I kept messing it up. My hands shake, seize up, and hurt very quickly. So the polygel and poppits are great! I’m almost back to normal doing my nails depending on my symptoms at the time 🤷🏻‍♀️ I prep as normal, then dehydrate, double prime (don’t forget some primers won’t ‘air dry’ and require curing 🤦🏻‍♀️ but although I’ve only recently found this out, I used to cure the primer when it didn’t air dry anyway. I’ve not needed to prime for a good while now. I don’t know why but just the buffing and dehydrator works great for me now. I’ve found a great brand that I and my clients love and decent prices too ‘Bluesky’. Love! Young lady in video did a great job of her own nails and especially her dominant hand which is so much harder to do 👍🏼x

I'm a self-taught at home gel nail tech and I finally brought myself to catch up on my favorite nail techs videos after losing all of my nail products including my nail room. It's been over a year now and it still kills me! Doing nails & making videos was the only thing that helped my depression and made my mind shush. It helped me be at ease during a very bad time in my life. I'm hoping to start over soon but it's very discouraging when I put everything I had into my growing collection, it was there one day & gone the next. I lost almost everything. Besides my sweet first dog child, my nail room & contents hurt the most. I just want to start with getting the basics back so I can at least do a full set. I need to revisit my happy place. I hope one day I make a comeback on my small youtube channel but just being able to do something I taught myself & the thing I was best at! It was all I had. No children, no parents, just two dogs & my nail stuffs.. lost it all along with my oldest dog child. So sorry for this long comment. i'm trying to finally come to terms with my recent past & had to let out what I hold in. I've been a fan of you for years! I adore you and wish you the best, Suzie!

@cassidysoller 5 лет назад
DEMI 0619 of course! MMA originated in the dental industry & was used for making crowns& bridges! It’s also used as bone cement in orthopedic surgeries. MMA isn’t meant to come into contact with skin or nails. MMA is also solvent resistant so it takes FOREVER to get off. If you soak off it’ll become gummmy. Whereas ema products will flake off the nail bed easily. MMA is illegal & cheap so most nail salons will use it. My nail tech would shell out the $$ for ema legal products & raise prices & I was happpy to pay more for that kind of care 😁😁😁😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 stay woke!

Cheap MMA nails aren't worth getting if it means u have no nails, bc your real nail came off with the acrylic due to banging your finger on something. I've heard of that happening more than once. Ouch!

Love all your videos, but this one was super helpful for me right now! I trained because I hated being picked on by other nail techs for biting my nails, but I only do my own and my mums nails as doing nails isn’t my job, so I don’t get a whole lot of practice nowadays. I can agree, doing your own non-dominant hand is so difficult! You go into so much detail, it’s like a refresher lesson that I can watch again and again! Much love from the UK x

Suzie is so right about everyone handling heat differently I was getting my nails done once and the tech randomly got up and started walking away and I was so confused I looked down and my nails and I was bleeding on one finger. I literally had no idea until I saw the blood it never even felt warm.

i wish you could do my nails. having learned so much from you about doing nails has my eyes wide open when i go to get mine done and end up seeing all the things being done wrong. and when i called him out on the stuff, he acted like he had no clue what i was talking about. and didn't listen to me as a client and what i wanted either. i think all nail techs should at least take one of your classes.

Just remember not all nail technicians are created equal. It’s hard for nail technicians when a client is requesting something possibly beyond their own skills, first of all they are in barest and they don’t know how to handle it sometimes. That may be where their frustration comes in. Maybe just suggest to them to tune in to my channel maybe there are things that might help him learn if he’s open to it😀

There are A LOT of different techniques in the nail industry. Just because it’s not the way Suzie does it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Remember, watching a few videos doesn’t make you a professional 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
@andiwachob1480
@andiwachob1480 5 лет назад
@@alessa843 Bless your heart, somebody on the defense. I never anywhere said I was a professional. and contrary to what you said, I've watched more than a few. and not being a professional, I know for a fact a brand new set of acrylics should last 2-4 (6 if you're really good) weeks. not barely 5 days days. So not only was my time wasted, so was my money. Luckily I was able to salvage mine long enough to go to my event. But back on you, just because somebody said they want Suzie to do their nails, doesn't mean every other nail tech should suck a set and kick rocks. And remember just because you give adv. doesn't make you Dr. Phil.Good day to you.

Can I ask what distinguishes the red dots for gel, over them being blood spots on the natural nail? If I saw dots like these, I would be unsure how far to file (I am training to be a nail technician). Also I love your pump bottle, could you tell me where you get these from; it’s awesome. Great tutorial today, thank you x
@NailCareerEducation
@NailCareerEducation 5 лет назад
That’s a good question I knew they were gel because they were bright, if it was blood it would’ve been dried by that point and it would’ve been much darker in color. As I filed more I could tell that it was gel polish. And honestly in my whole career of 32 years if someone had blood on their nail it never looked like that or in that pattern. The light elegance bottle of acetone is adorable I love it

Hey Susie. So the biggest concern as to why nail techs or cosmetologist don't want to work on other people's work when a client comes in for a rebalance or fill and they rather do a new set is because here in the United States we have a big issue with salons still using MMA acrylic which is illegal and it's very dangerous. Exposure to that being the dust or the monomer used in the set is what nail technician and cosmetologist try to avoid working on or removing because as soon as the skin comes in contact with the dust or inhales it, it is very harmful to one's health. I've contracted contact dermatitis just from the dust alone of MMA acrylic. That's what cheaper salons or customers who don't want to pay a lot of money for a good set and are getting. A set of MMA acrylics instead of cosmetic grade EMA acrylics. also let me remind you this is such a big issue in the states I'm not sure if Canada is the same way or have any Salons that still use MMA over EMA, which I doubt it. So to your defense you think it's pretty odd that a nail tech refuses to do a rebalance, a fill or any type of service on a client with somebody else's work.
@dawnprebble9068
@dawnprebble9068 5 лет назад
I agree Ricky it is the same in the UK, if Tech's do decide to take off someone else's work they usually charge more for it as well. Some cheaper nail bars are still using the MMA acrylic etc. and this is an issue and also illegal. When I was trained it was recommended not to practice taking off another person's work and personally I don't like taking off product I haven't applied for this very reason.

So many nails techs in my area don’t take other people’s nails off (most of them said it takes too long apparently), so when you want to try to switch nail techs you have to take them off yourself which is ruining the nails because obviously we don’t have the right equipment. I personally don’t infill over someone else’s work. Prime example, the other day I had a client who had MMA acrylic on already. I had to soak/file them off and start again. I wouldn’t feel comfortable putting my work on top of a NSS set. It’s like a house, you want a solid foundation to make it secure

Pip’s Nails exactly the reason that I don't do this in my salon either. This way you prevent an unhealthy situation. Most customers do not know which products have been used. We cannot see that on the outside either. That's why it's better to prevent that altogether.
