My PC is 8 years old (i7-4930k). The only thing I've done is upgrade the RAM to 32GB, Installed an SSD and a 1080ti. It runs all games at max or high detail settings. @daghetto101
@daghetto101 Год назад
@@crystalparrot4985 It depends on how much your PC is. You can upgrade but the cost is like buying a PC depending on parts you want to upgrade. You might as well just build/buy a new one. You can upgrade it by adding RAM and Adding SSD and maybe buying a GPU for it. But if youre gonna replace the CPU and motherboard its a bit expensive. If youre gonna total all of this cost or even at least the first three then its much better to just save up and build a new one
@brianmuller5204
@brianmuller5204 Год назад
@@crystalparrot4985 8 GBs of ram is simply not enough for current games. 16 GB of ram is standard nowadays. unless you are talking VRAM in your GPU. then still 8 GBs is low for games coming out now currently. 12-16GB of VRAM is what a person buying a new GPU would aim for to have high frame rates at high graphic settings. a prebuilt PC isnt terrible especially for people who are nervous about spending a lot of money and not knowing a lot about how to actually put it together. some prebuilt PCs dont build with the idea that the consumer will want to upgrade their PC down the line. this means enough room in the case to change a part for something else and compatability on parts.

One and Two is how I upgrade my PC. 2020 December I upgraded. My old computer was running Cyberpunk at 30fps on medium. My new computer runs it at 60fps on Ultra with medium Ray tracing. I realise this video is at least a couple of years old, but the message remains. The model numbers and specs change, but the story and advice are constant. It reminds me of the Horsepower Wars of the 60s and 70s. Cars have always triggered competitiveness in their owners, but those decades, I think, peaked out the rivalries, with FORU divisions at GM (two of which have disappeared since) fought Ford, Chrysler, and American Motors and one another for bragging rights at drag strips - and public thouroughfares - all oveer North America. To a degree, designing extra performance in products benefits customers as well as the sales of the manufacturers, but, as you pointed out, advances are sometimes miniscule and even negatively effective. I personally am trying the ols hotrodder's trick, combining old parts from several sources, to try to squeeze more performance out of a beater.

I am a PC enthusiast and a photographer and the same applies to both hobbies. Don't upgrade unless your current gear stops working or is not getting the job done. I recently upgraded to a Dell T5610 workstation with a GTX 1070 because the old system was not doing what I needed it to since I got into video editing. A local animation studio was selling off a bunch of workstations at the same time too so it all worked out. But it was never about bragging rights. Although dual Xeons with 128 GBs of RAM is nice. :)

Well done. My theory is dont upgrade until my computer is not performing as I want or I can do something appreciably better with the upgrade than I can now. I wasnt happy with my computer a couple years ago. I had a I5 with a gtx 970. It wasnt fast enough but played games fine, I upgraded everything but the GPU and I was happy as hell with my computer. I saw no reason for the 1000s cards as it stlll wouldnt let me play at 4k like I wanted, even the 2000 cards wouldnt unless I was going 2080 TI and if I have a 970, I think its fair to judge what I think of that kind of money for a GPU. Now I figure I can get 4 or 5 years out the 3080 and thats an acceptable value to me, so if its ever for sale I'll buy one. Still not willing to buy AMD, dont trust the drivers, but my patience could get the best of me if AMD is actually available.

For anyone reading this one year post-upload, I was considering upgrading my AMD system from a 1800x to a 5xxx series cpu and from an R9 390 to a 6xxx range gpu. Looking at what I needed to do to have this new cpu supported on my old motherboard, I found out getting my motherboard up to speed on compatibility by updating BIOS already improved my performance drastically, even visually, to an extent that I'm now considering not upgrading my cpu at all for now and am now seeing if I can do the same magic as to not needing a new gpu either. I may get a new case first, as I've noticed my old build struggles more over high temperatures than anything. The reason your pc might be slow is likely not the hardware by itself.

Hey man, so thought I’d ask as I’m watching this vid due to a problem that sounds a lot similar to what you were experiencing, but I have a question, so this time last week, my pc was completely fine, I’d 4 years old but still runs smooth, I have an intel i5 7600k, 16gb ram and a gtx 1070 8gb, it was great, but I downloaded a windows update 2 days ago and now it’s ruined, cpu constantly runs at 100% or close to that, I checked task manager and it’s showing that apparently I only have 1 cpu core, it’s not, it’s a 4 core. I’ve read about it and apparently sometimes when you do an update you MoBo can bug out or it can cause you’re pc to think it only has 1 core, so to fix it you should try updating bios, but I’ve tried to look up how to do that and can’t figure it out, would you be able to help me out please?

I stayed with an intel core 2 quad qx9650 w/8gigs of memory, till 2020. It still ran great, but it did have a tab limit and it also needed to be cleaned often. The better a computer's performance, the less limitations you will find. My advice; When you decide to upgrade, Buy the best you can afford. Decide of how much you can spend. Then put the most money into the places where you need strength, but not so much that you compromise building a well-balanced computer. You make your decisions, then you live with them.

Watching this a year later because its finally “my time” to upgrade. At the time, 5ish years ago, this was a pretty big boy system that mercilessly and efficiently donkey-punched anything that came its way. Its starting to show its age now, though. Currently in the component-ordering phase of my second build, which will be a Ryzen 5800x, 3080 10gb, Asus board, and much more ram and storage. This one will also be getting a 360mm top-mount radiator and a new Corsair iCue 5000x case. Looking forward to feeling the leap in technology! Great video and great explanation.
