😢My dining room table is my “DUMPING” table…there’s so many piles on it that I have not been able to eat mindfully at a table for MONTHS…I know that I’m using it as the excuse not to tackle the bigger scarier things like starting a business, having people over, journaling, etc. It’s my pseudo crutch to justify my procrastination…freeing it up will give me a beautiful spot to enjoy a healthy meal, to invite others in or to use as a nice reading spot, place to implement goals through writing and FREE up my mind from using it as the excuse not to do things.❤

I finally got rid of old t shirts that carried sentimental value and some sort of identity (band tshirts I bought at concerts etc) most of them had lost shape or a bit small and washed out, some of them over ten yo so they have served their value by far, I bought ten black-greyish good quality tshirts that go with anything :-) moving on to long sleeve and shirts next

All of your content is inspirational, I think largely because it's so genuine, and kind. This one I especially enjoyed, and can relate to the overlapping diagram. One thought on that, that might help people, when deciding what's relatively "easy" to de-clutter is an area where it's easy to decide where things go an where there are clear places for each. Books were great for that - keep, sell, donate. But I'm realizing that sometimes things like "tools" are tough, because it can be a lot of work to organize the "keep" pile. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks for the content.

After watching a couple of your videos last night, I woke up this morning and finally cleared off my kitchen table. It has served more as a catch all space and cat dining than anything else. I had been intending to clear it off so I can give it to the first person who takes it apart and hauls it out. I am in the process of downsizing my life dramatically so I can begin my vanlife dream. Purging is something I have been practicing for a couple of decades. I've moved around a bunch, often from state to state. Whenever I buy something new, it has to be better than something I already have that serves the same or similar purpose. It's how I keep my possessions relatively low. However, I have also developed a strong attachment to things, like clothes and beads. I have art supplies I have either never used or haven't in awhile. I do intend to use them at some point, but which ones? So the debate begins. Space is incredibly important to me. My living room is larger than it needs to be. Space fills the center, but the edges are filled with furniture. It feels suffocating because I have more than I need. At the same time, I am doing a partial build. Several pieces of my furniture will be coming along with me. They must be able to serve multiple purposes. One of them being storage for my daily life and creativity. I have an amoir dedicated to my jewelry making supplies. I want to add other crafting materials, which means downsizing. There are two great big obstacles. Everything is organized by color and metal. Sort of. There are different sized containers for larger amounts and bulkiness. I have a lot of stuff, which is awesome. But also crippling. I have too much to sift through. I often don't feel inspired until I begin decluttering my mess piles. These consist of failure projects that need to be dismantled and reorganized into my collection. Even when I do get around to those huge piles, I end up stopping and playing. Then I have a bigger mess. When I have a mess, I feel unable to create. This is where I am right now. I feel unable to complete my purging task because of all the things hidingin those piles. Once the project is complete, I can sell the supplies I no longer want or need. Even though I have made some good progress, it seems that only the surface has been scratched because of my giant mess. It may not seem so giant to some people, but the act of taking things apart and reorganizing them is time consuming and often daunting. Yesterday, I decluttered the bathroom. It could use some organization, and maybe even a finer declutter toothed comb. All in all, it was a successful project.

I love your videos. Thank you, Ron. My core values:Faith. Family. Friends. Health. Personal growth. Also, I have a really hard time setting firm physical boundaries for stuff. Sentimental items are hard to let go of. As well as books - with the digital age and people getting canceled (ex Dr Seuss) - it's hard to let go b/c what if I can't find that book (etc) again? I broke my emotional attachments to my stuff years ago. I was wasting money buying more than I needed. I got rid of a lot of stuff and keep a minimum amount now. Less is better. I think women accumulate and keep more stuff than men but I’ve seen men with too much stuff too. First thing I did was cut back on buying stuff I don't need. I stop buying things to make me happy and accepting and accumulating free stuff and exchanging gifts also. I’m little less happy now but free of stuff.

Hi Ronald, I am kind of stuck with the china that I own. There are multiple sets in my house that I collected over the years. Some are more valuable to me than others. In my thoughts are memories of good times with family and friends, sitting together and celebrating. Most of my family is gone and friends are not coming over so much anymore. My life has changed socially since I work in a full time job. I have the feeling there is no need for all of the China anymore. I startet to take it out of the cupboard. The first set was very clear. It's the one I like the most. The second set is one wich was very expensive. The third and fourth set are in the basement. From there I go to the garden. Where I used to have guests as well. Same story can't decide which one to keep. Or is it necessary, to keep one at all? I had no guests in the garden since 2018! There is a big what if in my had. Connected to an emotion of security, warms and comfort. And on top of the cream, the cherry of standards. As a person of a certain age and lifestyle, I should... expectations! My values are trust, value and self-efficacy.

I’ve heard of people having “yard sales” where they list that they’re putting stuff out for free in their front yard on FB marketplace, and people come by and pick up what they want and need until it’s mostly gone, and then they get rid of the rest in other ways (donation, etc.) I don’t know if that would be a feasible option for you, or maybe even a friend’s house to do that if you can’t where you live. Or a free stuff bench at some condos, etc… a little at a time? In any case, I hope you can find a solution that suits you and feels less nerve wracking! Wishing you the best of luck!

@@elistia that’s great! Yeah I’m not on FB either - but the idea is a “free yard sale” really appealed to me when I heard it! Getting stuff directly into someone’s hands who can use it is a great priority, and making sure it arrives in the nice condition you’ve kept it in is so important too! @goldengriffon
@goldengriffon 4 месяца назад
The detachment mentality is a huge game-changer. Especially since there is a danger to overly focus on the precious few possessions that remain (or precious few relationships, hobbies, etc.) once we've tarted minimizing. Realizing that you will be okay if something moves on and out of your life is a very liberating feeling, though can be scary at first (perhaps because the word "detach" is often mistakenly interpreted as "casting off"). But the things that really benefit your life and are of high value typically stay around effortlessly anyway. So if I learn to detach from things (and situations and preferences, etc.) only to discover something leaves my life, I try to relax and trust that it was for the best.

Ronald, this is my first visit to your RU-vid channel. My problem is I am constantly getting rid of items (which of course means I had too much to begin with) but if I box anything to donate or pass on to someone that could use it my husband gets concerned. Case in point I always wanted white dishes. I have a perfectly good set of blue willow that partly belong to my mother and mother-in-law. I purchased the white dishes about 3 years ago but now I realized I could have survived without having to store more dishes. I want to donate them to a charity but my husband just doesn't understand that I'm 73 and want to get rid of excess while I still can. I don't want the burden of more for myself or my family if I pass.

Hey my friend, my only rule here is to be mindful and selective about what you choose to consume. I believe that what we listen to will eventually shape how we think and act. Now as far what I do personally: - My wife and I have a family plan with Spotify - Our playlist are full with a variety of music but we are intentional and selective about type messages we are consuming - We have a speaker on display in our living room and often have “dance parties” with our son.

The hardest thing for me, right now, is my son’s stuff. He is about to turn 4 so he’s still young enough that I’m responsible for all his belongings but family members or friends are constantly gifting him toys, clothes, blankets, books, etc… I tried to purge some stuffed animals just now but the fear of offending the family members that gifted them to us froze me (especially because a LOT of it comes from my husband, because he grew up very poor so he’s always showering our son in gifts). I’m fully aware of this fear but I don’t know how to process it or what to do to get my spouse to understand how our home is making me feel. I also fear hurting his or my son’s feelings by purging something they wanted to keep. When it comes to my own stuff, I don’t have as big of an issue. I’ve been trying to purge a little everyday and it’s going well so far! Being 32 weeks pregnant definitely helps with the urge to purge. However, it’s my son’s and my husband’s stuff causing me the most stress in my home right now. I even cry over it regularly.
