Castlevania Season 3 Episode 9 (2020) Scene: Forgemaster Isaac Defeats / Kills The Magician TV Show Info: www.imdb.com/title/tt6517102/ Watch on Netflix: www.netflix.com/ #Castlevania
This wizard was a great side antagonist for Isaac, as he represents the endgame of Isaac's conquest: a sad, lonely, and pathetic man who treats people as nothing more than slaves and objects to enact his petty whims. I'm not sure if Isaac saw the irony, but I'm glad he is on a more positive road.
With his smarts & capabilities, I figure a truly evil Isaac would've been a tad more dangerous than this old fart... That being said, I'm fairly glad with how his story arc turned out in the end. Isaac's the GOAT.
Yeah, I've seen some criticism of the wizard of 'being out of nowhere' and being 'underdeveloped'. That kind of misses the point. Yes, the wizard doesn't really have a character in and of himself... he has no dialogue and is just one-dimensionally evil. But, the purpose here is to serve as a foil for Isaac without being too on the nose about it, and represent basically the culmination of the bad side of humanity that Isaac has been ranting about over the course of the whole series. We don't need more introduction or discussion on this evil wizard, because Isaac has essentially been talking about him when he talks about "humans" ever since season 2. Killing him in a moment of catharsis is what finally gives Isaac the opportunity to let go of his rage against mankind.
This was his season honestly. Alucards arc was boring honestly. Trevor and syphas was filler, and hectors was just him having a bad time. Isaac is the only character who made progress this season honestly.
What an incredible and powerful character this magician was. He doesn't even needed a very elaborate background to understand that he was just a wizard who has became very powerful and had gone mad with power.
It's frightening beyond horror to think that this magician is only one of the many supernatural threats out there. And that Isaac is going to summon a city's worth of hellbeasts out of so many bodies.
@@huntercheadle2679 Doctor doom needs to be mind-controlled in the first place for that to happen, and last I check Doom's is able to block mental intrusions on his own, and this is without his helmet which also can block mental intrusions.
Fun fact: That giant ball of people is a reference to a boss in the games called Legion. the more you attack it, the more bodies fly out. The objective is to destroy it until you can reach it's core and kill it off, the core in this case being the magician in his tower.
@Sub Saibot Well, Legion is actually a demon who uses this magic. Not just the formation that Legion uses. Or that wizard is actually Legion. Maybe Isaac turns the wizard into the demon we know as Legion or Granfaloon.
The magician's confidence felt like he had been in this situation many times before. Where the plucky hero comes in to defeat him and just becomes part of his army. Even the man who Issac kills in the beginning of this scene was probably another person who stood up to the Magician. Very satisfying kill
Saint Germaine! He closed a dimension to hell on Dracula with a Belmont while riding a giant fire spitting night creature! Then he leaps into a dimension warp to his lost love. Also Trevor was nice to him once.
@@Tonyloks92 Yup, Curse of Darkness. Isaac kills Hector's wife and that makes Hector lustin for vengeance. Rosaly wasn't even mentioned in Castlevania tv series, so Lenore is probably her replacement and that means Isaac will kill her. That will happen in S4, we will get more Lenore and Hector bonding just to see her dying from Isaac hands and in S5 we will get full Curse of Darkness plotline
Lx Dead yea I can totally see Hector becoming more than just Lenores pet and caring for her (maybe even impregnating her...?) and Isaac slaying her thus driving Hector to probably kill Isaac and in turn making Hector more of a badass
@@mattkennedy6115 If producers are going to follow the story as they are doing for now, they will have to give Hector some motivation to go after Isaac. In Curse of Darkness Isaac falls to Dracula's Curse, go mad and kills Hectors wife, Rosaly, that's the moment he regains Devil Forging powers, team ups with Isaac sister and fights with Isaac, he beats him but not kills him thus he breaks Dracula's Curse he was under. Death appears explain it was his plan all along, to make Hector kill Isaac and become new vessel for Vampire King, but cuz Hector didn't, he takes Isaac unconscious body for Dracula to be reborn. Hector kills both Death and revived Dracula. That's the "Curse of Dracula" plotline. We will see if Netflix will go along with it.
Ashfalor true but he still has very natural inclination to murder, before the captain convinced him otherwise he was fully willing to kill the crew to take there ship. He may at the moment do it primarily for self defense but only from what we’ve seen
At first I thought after he killed the wizard, he'd have all these people he freed decide to join him and his cause; praising him as this savior. And then I realized that they're at the top of the tower and they're all floating like a mile high in the air.
@@CampaignerSC I would call it a mercy kill though, because after hearing that you were enslaved among hundreds of thousands people including your friends and family and then knowing you were the only handful that survived, that would be super traumatic. Also if some people survived, then they’d have serious injuries from being thrown and dropped from great heights. Issac wouldn’t have the capacity or resources to treat those injuries.
The moment Isaac killed the first vampire lord he got my full attention. I just hope he holds on to his sanity because there's enough unhinged, full-retard villains in the story already.
Allan Vdsouza Yeah I know. Even though he was a slave and knows what it’s like to be abused as an innocent person, he has no problem killing completely innocent people.
I really love Issac's arc in Season 3, it is definitely the best part of the season. I feel like his story is like a dark version of the hero's journey, he meets interesting and insightful people along the way who aids and guides him, becomes stronger as he gather his 'allies' and finally triumph against a tyrannical king.
People once wondered how Isaac fought Godbrand with equal strength. Here, we see that he is strong enough to calmly, effortlessly lift up an entire human with a single hand. The man is built different.
Yeah and then when he fights the bandits at the watering hole in the desert, and he leaps about 20 ft into the air onto a horse’s back, I was like “Yo, that is not a regular human” lmao
@Tram Sam He will die from Hectors hands anyway in s5 probably. It seems that producers replaced character of Rosaly (Hectors wife) with Lenore. She and Hector will have probably more bonding stuff in s4 and then she will probably die from Isaac hands and thus give Hector hell of a motivation to put Isaac down.
Isaac though is someone who is fixated on the negative aspects of humanity... All he sees are more reasons for them to be wiped out. Granted he plays out his own prophecies in just about every single instance by having a demon army at his beck and call every where he goes... People know exactly what they are so he can't go anywhere without drawing attention but still... If he wondered about without said horde, his entire outlook could very well shift and he'd see much more kindness from strangers... In a lot of ways both Hector and Issac are very nieve to the world and only see their specific view as valid... Yet ironically, they constantly seem to isolate themselves and spend a large chunk of their time hanging out with the wrong kinds of people.
Isaac is not the enemy or evil. He's faithful to his ideals. He listens to others during his mission so as to learn how to fulfill it. And he does not kill unless they force his hand. The part where he wants to eliminate human kind is not even evil either. Considering all the animals, vegetation and life in general that would be freed from being subjected to all the evils imaginable from humans. Humans are like a bacteria that feeds on the life of others. The vast majority are this way. Since the wast majority see nothing wrong from sending animal to slaughterhouses or electrocuting animal 'pests' by introducing an iron rod in their anus (this is how they kill dogs in 3rd world countries. If you're brave enough, you can search videos here on youtube of that). Thing is, Isaac is not the enemy or evil. He understands why humanity must perish in order for life on Earth to survive.
@@lxdead5585 i feel like Isaac is gonna to kill Lenore, then Hector is gonna explain he was put under a loyalty spell, then they'll effectively take over the vamp kingdom and rule that nation as changed men
at least that game tried to have better characters and story, SoTN has 0 personality and it made the castlevania series go down the JRPG path choosing gameplay instead of story, characters and writting. SoTN is Castlevania has done more damage that any other.
I'm probably the only one that liked the original flamboyant crazy bdsm Isaac. Plus, he was voiced by Liam O Brien. Though I just like over the top Japanese character designs in general.
It’s crazy how during this whole fight you find yourself rooting for Isaac but then remember “oh yeah wants to wipe out all humanity”😐 Edit: Wow there’s a lot of edgy people on that don’t have faith in humanity on this thread. Believe me I know people can be quiet terrible and cruel to one another, yet we do have the potential and capability for treating our fellow man with kindness and consideration.
Just imagine if him and Hector set aside their difference and actually teamed up. They’d be unstoppable. Really hoping Isaac doesn’t just outright kill him. Hectors literally been through hell this season lol
CrystalTigerclaw no. He wants to kill him for betraying Dracula. Which he didn’t intend to. Hopefully that doesn’t happen. These two have had the best development this season.
Sandorcleg I wanna hope that they work together and Trevor, Sypha and Alucard have to work together again to fight off against Hector and Isaac’s army of night creatures.
Isaac: faces an entire empire of mind controlled slaves, then gets mind controlled for a spilt second just for him to break out of it from his own will, so he can continue to add onto his monster made army. Hector: gets tricked into becoming a slave, and by order of the diplomat he is no longer a real person.
Hector has three options for season 4, Isaac game ends him, he game ends himself, or isaac releases him from the slave ring and they game end the sister council.
@@Blaedin1337 Hector grew immensely as a person by being put in the position he was and played a key role defeating Carmilla. So much as even isaac to acknowledge him
Isaac: creates demons and kills a magician with an army. Trevor and Sypha: still killing demons Alucard: trains and bangs two weaboos Hector: bangs succ waifu Isaac's story arc in this season is the best one there is, fight me.
As Isaac fought his way through the city, I found myself burning with curiosity as to what he would find at the top of that tower. Just before he reaches the magician I thought "It's going to be a bearded old man with a ridiculous hat, isn't it?" and... well... it was.
00:01 Legion Boss 00:23 Shield rod + leather shield + Heart Max Up 00:47 Red skull from Blood Skeleton There's also a Death Doll, Moebious Brooch, Short Sword, Moai and some Karma Coins at the shopkeeper 00:53 Here they made an animation mistake. The easter egg items are beside the old man, not behind.
My jaw has been dropped for like a solid minute. No exaggeration I.... am..... ASTONISHED. All I can say is.... "Hehe, thank you!" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CHLoRkd9qhQ.html
The animation for this whole scene (and show to be honest) is just so good. I live the expressions especially. You can see the shock in Isaac's eyes when he sees that the magician isn't some evil mastermind but a mad who's gone insane with power. His slight change when he realizes that the spell is about to be put on him too as well as his expressions of struggling against it. And to top it off, the surprised joy he found in killing someone who had been hurting others. Just so good. He was such a cool character. I'll miss seeing more new content with him.
I cannot explain exactly why but my favourite part of the whole scene is when the mad magician's hat falls ever so gently to the ground bringing utter silence to the torment around them. I have watched this scene many times now.
I think my favorite part about Isaac freeing himself from the magic was when the magical third eye cast upon him opened and closed at HIS will, not the magician’s.
Issac is how you write character development and redemption, its not some hero who "shows the error of his ways" but rather he discovers what he wants for him self by journing and meeting people.
@@gottesurteil3201 Granfalloon in SotN because America said no no to Demon names and Legion later on because Demonic names were finally being allowed in video games past that. Thats why stuff like Gremlin went to Ukoback, Thornweed to Une, Granfalloon to Legion, etc.
The soundtrack after the magician dies is so serene. And I love how Isaac started off as a slave and ended this season with a bang/ conquering slavery (by killing the mind control magician)
but seriously though this is one of the coolest throwaway "villain for the sake of being a roadblock for the main characters" type characters I've seen in animation personally
This show is giving off some serious early GOT vibes this season. I found myself rooting for the villain even more than the heroes. His growth was honestly the best this season and I want to see where they take him.
I remember learning that when it comes to character writing, motivation often matters more than relatability. Isaac has clear motivations that he goes to great lengths to fulfill over the course of season 3, while Sypha and Trevor are kind of stuck in a plot col-de-sac until the finale.
@@BlackLegion12621 So how do you think Sypha and Trevor's arc could've been improved? Fighting against boss villains similar to the Fox Hound Unit? Adding their own hero's journey that leads them to fulfill some of their dreams?
Trevor and Sypha are not even the main characters of this show. Thats the beauty of it. I had strong witcher vibes from their village quest with portal to hell.
Yeah. The only UPSIDE to what Sypha and Trevor went through is that Dracula isn't back (but as we could see he didn't really even want to come back so it was never an issue). Hector clearly got worse, and Alucard's only victory is he didn't die (which honestly isn't much of a victory for him anyway given he's still alone and getting worse). Hell, the only way Isaac got a defeat is that his plan with the Visitor didn't work to bring his friend back to (un)life, and I'm not sure he even knows that yet.
Clayton Hendrickson I think it’s more than Isaac didn’t lose. He didn’t have a standing antagonist beyond his own self-doubt until the last two episodes.
GZilla311 So yeah in a way he won not only against the guy in the last two episodes but with himself, getting his ideas straight, and at life if you think about it because at the end of his journey u like everyone else he was actually happy
@@stonem0013 Not as large as Isaac's; the people the magician enslaved must have numbered in at least the thousands, which is more than the sisters can harvest in the same amount of time. If he decides to march on Styria, they'll be overwhelmed.
@@magnustheredxv idk, the Sisters are taking over a huuuge swathe of land. All they need to do is sack one town and they'll have thousands. They could do it over a weekend lol
I feel so stupid for not realizing this until now but Isaac is the only one who got a happy ending while Trevor and Sypha got a gloomy ending, Alucard and Hector got a fucked up ending
@@OxygenPeople I feel like i am the only one who doesn't hate him, I know some people will say that he shouldn't have trusted Lenore but then again some people will do the same thing because she's pretty
@@imgone1360 I imagine it was the chance to not be beaten and fed Rotting food. Clothes, Decent food, and not being tortured by a crazy vampire guard would probably be enough to turn most people. It was a Mistake to side with Carmella, but Dracula made that an easy move. The only thing Hector really had going against him was his Naivete to the pain Dracula was feeling.
I like it shows that isaac is a threat. In the previous season they didnt portray as much, but you can see he can take care of himself without surprise
This was definitely Isaac’s season, to grow and gain power. I hope that next season we see Hector learn and grow. Perhaps he’ll find a way to get out of his predicament, and flee the castle before Isaac arrives to kill everyone. A confrontation between Isaac and Hector is inevitable, but I could see Hector fleeing to just try and live a normal life for awhile before fighting Isaac.
Yea. I'm this arc had a focus on a certain character. Not everyone can win in the same arc. If there were too many winners, then the climax's impact would feel cheap.
I thought this Wizard was Saint Germaine, older, wizened and mad with abominable knowledge of the arcane, still searching for a means to find his beloved in the infinite corridor, displaced from time. Turns out it's just a mad but powerful random wizard.
Isaacs arc was the best arc in my opinion. I feel it was better written and paced, and I appreciate the seeds of doubt his experiences cast in his whole “every human is bad” mindset. (My personal favorite is when he was sailing with the captain to Genoa and Isaac has moment where the captain tells him “you can be a king and teach people to be kind y’know?”. Or the interaction with the shopkeeper that gives him the small viewing mirror.”)
I feel like after all the years of self-discipline and dedication, both to dracula and his faith, it's very fitting for him to be resistant to mind magic like he was here, the scars on his back and in his heart are more than enough proof that a mere puppetmaster could pose no threat to his hardened mind
Hands down my favorite character of the Netflix series, Isaac is a man on a mission while creating an army of demons. That's metal as shit, I love it so much.
i remember shouting "NOO" out loud when isaac was controlled for that brief moment. its crazy how watching this scene you forget hes still an evil character
@@fernandoalonsociezaghersi7219 that's wrong actually. Isaac wasn't an antagonist in this season, he was one of the protagonists. And as for him being evil - he *was* evil when he started his journey. His whole arc was about him not being just evil anymore, and finding out that there is more to life and humanity.
Isaac's journey is very meaningful in the sense that all through it he kept meeting foes (like the magician), friends (the Captain of the ship) or even subordinates within his own troop (flyseyes) who provide him with the knowledge, wisdom and the experience to be able to make that decision at the end of the series. Isacc recognizes that the only way to change the world for the better, was not by replacing the bad with more bad. But by providing hope to those that never even considered that they had that option in their lives.
This is one of the greatest necromancer battles I have ever seen put to animation. I hope that webtoons like Lone and Little Matcha Girl will also one day have their necromancy battles put in animation...
The Magician should have brought his puppets through the windows and dog piled Isaac while Isaac fought the mind control spell. It seems the Magician was so certain his spell was unbreakable he didn't feel the need.
