Last Christmas Eve I was volunteering in a small hostel in Nagano prefecture. We were having a simple dinner w/other volunteers and guests when a random non Japanese guy suddenly joined our very-improvised karaoke, went through the catalogue of our 2003 dusty karaoke machine and sang this song from head to toe, perfect pronunciation, impeccable vibratos, outstanding stage presence... we stared blankly as he left for his room as soon as the song ended, unforgettable.
@@chairmanzia3556 yeah, anthems are meant to get you feeling pumped and patriotic. Considering how deeply woven "Yamato" is in Japanese society going all the way back to the feudal empires, it makes sense for this to sound more like anthem than their real one
I was watching Kohei Tanaka being interviewed some years ago. When talking about the very first One Piece opening he composed, he lamented how anime songs nowadays are often made by deals between publishers and record companies, resulting in opening songs that have very little to do with the show itself. THIS is the kind of stuff that will never die.
Nanastu No Taizai, or The Seven Deadly Sin's Second Opening and first Ending are both related to the anime, which I thought was quite cool. The Opening made it to number 2 on the charts so maybe the Japanese public want an anison resurgence.
OrangeVision I wonder if Toei is an exception then? One Piece and Saint Seiya both have songs that are heavily tied to the series itself. Granted, Saint Seiya is an oldie and making weird songs for the sequels would piss off the fanbase.
OrangeVision I always wondered why they were so random. I actually just watched SBY recently for the first time. This song was a treat as I watched it!
OrangeVision i hear ya but there are some exceptions to this for example sailor moons reboot with clover z playing the opening. but i find it interesting on how some opening can give ya a sneak peek into the upcoming events for those who dont read the books. but thats just my opinion from watching over 500 titles from old astro (black and white. thank god i dont have to watch it again) to something modern like log horizon again opinion and these titles just jumped into my head randomly. speaking of oldies im marathon yamato finally found almost everything.
*sings intro to space battleship yamato in scandinavia* (nobody reacts) *sings intro to space battleship yamato in Japan* (everyone gets hyped) i wish this franchise was know better all around the world
i am an erasmus student in germany and we had an intensive german course and on the last of the course we had something like a party. There were 3 japanese people in the course and i played this song on my sax and i was so happy and satisfied to see their reactions!.i still remember it and laugh :D
@@kassie3320 I love how you are trying to explain Japanese history to a Japanese person. And doing it wrong. "Yamato" is an old historical name for Japan. That is why it was given to one of the two largest warships. Contrary to Germans, by the way, who renamed their pocket battleship Deutschland to Lutzow after the start of WWII in order to avoid possible blow to morale if ship that bears name of the state is sunk.
Isao Sasaki is a great noble, Iconic, legendary, incredible true gentleman all wrapped up in one persona. He sings with so much passion & puts his soul in all of his great performances. A true artist/entertainer second to none. Nobody can hold up to him. He is simply AWEEEEEEESOOOOOME!!!!!!!!!!
Wohoo! Gosh, i´m moved to tears! I´ve always listened to the theme of "Yamato" but never actually saw it live. My heart is beating faster! The most uplifting theme ever!
I love how you can hear the crowd singing with the guy...It shows that even the Japaneese(sp) can loose their cool when faced with something that they love :)
There was a concert held here in Finland like 10 years ago by a japanese orchestra and choir and their whole set was old anime- and video game music from japanese titles. This song was one of the songs they played and it was a magnificient experience!
Sweet Christmas! He's like one part Elvis, one part Don Ho, another bit Tom Jones and a touch of Liberace's wardrobe thrown in the mix. All awesome! And love the song!
I can never get over how the crowd first does their polite clap for the next song..then once he starts and they realize what's coming up they erupt into cheer and start singing along.
Space Battleship Yamato! Picture it your a little kid and you hear this start before every episode, that was my childhood as an American kid my dad loved the anime and so do I
