ISHITANI - Making a Medicine Chest with lots of drawers

It was a request for remake of damaged old medicine chests.
Difficult thing was to put drawers of different sizes into one chest.
Normally, drawer sizes will be made later, but this time we used those old drawers as they are.

Ah, that was just the push I needed: I‘ve had a pharmacy chest sitting in the shed waiting for a restoration for over a year. As seven of the drawers are missing, I have been trying to find aged wood to reproduce the drawer fronts and not really working on the chest. After watching your video I‘ve been at it happily for the last few hours - thank you for the inspiration and the motivation

Beautiful work. I am in awe of your shop. So much open space with under floor ductwork. Very well laid out work areas. My "shop" is an overly stuffed 9x18 foot garage. This video made me subscribe. No talking, no music... just excellent craftsmanship in action.

I was thinking exactly the same. It so often doesn't work when people try to imitate something with age, it just comes off as tacky. It's really only when you create a contrast of new and old in quality that it works because it respects the past.

I love watching these RU-vid videos Saturday morning as I sit at my bench drinking my first coffee, getting ready. This is stunningly beautiful, the craftsmanship, the design idea, and the quality of the video. No unnecessary load music, or commentary. I have a project for a drawer till for my bench and I gotta few construction ideas from this posting. Thank you.

Fantastic work. I'm always amazed at how many folk think that some tool or other does the work. Tools don't make the work - the woodworker does - and in this case, Natsuki really knows what he's doing. As always, it's a real pleasure to watch you working, especially in what must rank as one of the all time best woodwork shops ever!

Always in awe of the near-absolute precision of Japanese craftsmen and artisans, but also a little freaked out by it. I'm glad that this level of dedication exists in the world, and equally glad that I'm far more forgiving in my own work.

If you carefully watch Ishitani videos you automatically become a better woodworker even if you don't touch wood from months. This videos are perfectly edited and you can guess where those pieces goes and why he made them that way. Plywood for the internal shelves where you cant (or its not the best solution) do a frame with solid wood, recessed low guides to hold the drawers, lock the front grid and save extra wood and extra weight and so on. Every video it's a condensed lesson of several tecniques. Thanks for sharing.

In my mind its awesome to see Ishitani do "his thing" with the wood :) But the editing and cutting are awesome aswell, love to see him plaining the surface as concentrated as thinking about the right measurements. The slow and peaceful music is on point and all the Videos are Masterpieces just like they are :)

I am always amazed at what I can learn from watching skilled people. The chamfering of the tenons together (8:21) is really subtle and practiced. He uses the plane bottom to line up the the tenons square so that he can do both edges at once. I'm adding it to my book of skills to work on.
