I think I heard this statement that ISIS is originated from Muhammad when Ayaan Hirsi Ali is being interviewed in Joe Rogan Podcast which is quite fascinating since it's required a refutation. The matter of that islam is the direct cause of ISIS or even terorism as a whole, there is some truth in it. However, those people who did, interpret the Qur'an with no basis i.e. they did it because it's suits them. They think that Islam is a source of subjective morality which is not the case. There is an interpretation by scholars who interpret verses with basis such as Hadith and Classical Arabic language and much more. I do recommend you to check a book called "Dying to Win". It is a research from Dr. Robert Pape publiched in 2005. He talked about terrorism and what he says is that it's not Religious but it's Politics.
