Quote from dr. Ghilan's talk. He talks.about the Christian philosopher Soren Kirkegard. He accuses Soren Kirkegard of being irrational. I agree with Dr. Ghilan. However, I also believe the world's major religions including Islam promote irrational thinking. He makes a statement " It is the non rational not the irrational". I would like to know what is the difference between the " Non rational" and the "Irrational"?

sabbuo fggh I know what was going through his head cause i’ve been through it. This is about the contradiction between religions and science the psychical and physical reality. One of these root assumptions covers logic. We must be aware that the idea that our realities follow any laws of logic is first and foremost an assumption. Faith can cause a wide variety of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and stress disorder. Science says this is what happens when we overthink things which our human brains cant comprehend with those types of thinking. To me and also not a scientist, so just to make it short, this is what i called CRAZY!

interesting but i really wanna know : - what makes you believe in islam's prophet (what you said about what people said about him) that makes you think he's really a prophet and not just like Joseph smith or the sikhs gurus who claimed revelation and have great things told about them and have done. (from a neuroscientist pov) - Don't you think that putting the hypothesis that the quran isn't revelation as a starting point isn't that bad since, when you consider the number of holy sacred books in the world and how the mythological myths are geographically distributed, it looks like the hypothesis that this is just another self proclaimed prophet as zoroaster or Wallace Muhammad should be examined first? and don't you think that any book claiming being revelation should prove it in a very decisive way, clear to everyone, and not playing this sick game where the most gullible among to believe some "quranic science miracle" video on youtube gets to go to valhalla while those who use their critical thinking and fall in disbelief (even by mistake as you may think) goes under the seventh earth.. - You said that the quran contradicts evolution (just like it does with other religions originating from the same geographical region) and that evolution isn't what you called mythology (even if what i've read from professors books presents the data and the analysis and then give their personal opinions or sometimes they don't), can you clarify your opinion? do you think that the evolution as presented to the public isn't what's in the scientific journals?

@Kuffar Legion If you read the post properly you'll realise the questions were all directed at M Ghilan, hence my suggestion. More importantly, you want me to not believe the Prophet because charlatans exist? Shall I also not believe doctors because quacks exist? And engineers because cowboy builders exist? And scholars because fools exist? Instead of false associations it would be better to question the veracity of knowledge claimed by the scholar, the engineer, the doctor and indeed the Prophet. Its a better line of thinking and may lead you to what you're ultimately searching for; guidance! Be honest with yourself.

Kuffar Legion >why do people follow Jim Jones Because they're wrong. >hundreds of threats perpetuated by debunked Israelite mythology You never explain why you think these threats are invalid or this "debunked" Israelite mythology. Not to mention for someone who read the Quran you seem to forget the lengthy chapters discussing jurispudence ethics and the various responses given to naysayers. >what did I miss Assuming you have even read it I'd say you're reading it with the intention to ignore it. >Death penalty for apostasy The death penalty for apostasy is only necessitated due to the act of political secession which was necessitated by the fact that politics and religion were in those days insuperable. Also you ignore that the Prophet himself allowed an apostate scribe of his to leave Islam and go back to his home. Also how does Quran 9:12 legitimise death for apostasy And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease.9:12 All this does is give more credence to the theory that you have not read it. This clearly talks about a treaty being broken (the treaty of Hudaibyah) which is the justification provided for fighting with the defamation being the cherry on top.

Evolution: The first humans represented mild mutations from their nonhuman parents Islam: Allah created Adam using his two hands (Quran 38:75). There is no reconciliation here. We have modern science clashing with backward religion.
@ronmullick253
@ronmullick253 Год назад
Obviously God sitting on a throne or creating something with his own hand are just figures of speech. Also the concept of creation implies time.But God is outside time.So creation is actually the process of evolution. Adam or the metaphorical first human was perhaps this very small group of genus homosapien that had evolved symbolic language and tool making skills to the point that they had the potential to be extremely destructive and dangerous.Hence perhaps why Iblis who was an angel was having doubts.

- You seem to be saying that unless you are a scientist you can disregard whatever science says. To me you come close to saying "believe what you want to believe" - Popular science is not a "mythology". It is a description of the science. You imply a belief system where it doesn't exist. An individual may or may not accept the theory a description is based on. - A model and a theory are not identical. A model is often used to describe an application of a theory for a particular case. For example, the behaviour of the Eiffel tower in an earthquake can be modelled mathematically. Such a model depends of theories most obviously Newtonian mechanics and the Prandtl-Meyers Stress-Strain relationship

@GalileoSmith
@GalileoSmith 8 лет назад
I'm not sure quite what the speaker was trying to imply. In a academic environment studies are based on evidence and reason. So an alleged prophet from God is not a prophet from God unless that can be demonstrated with evidence. Without evidence, a prophet is simply an historical/mythical figure. A Muslim evaluating Muhammad would be simply exploring the life of Muhammad in an objective, academic manner. Of course it could be explained why Muhammad is seen as a prophet my Muslims, but a true "prophet of God" tag could not be placed on Muhammad because there is no good evidence that he was. It might be easier for a Muslim to explain Muhammad in a philosophical setting rather than a more historic or scientific setting.
@naerua9267
@naerua9267 5 лет назад
There's more than enough evidence to prove he existed. But belief in his prophecy, like belief in God, is a question of faith. As the Dr stated, absence of reason does not equate to irrationality.

@Kuffar Legion Wow, act like a grown man and stop being childish. "Your diction is poor." Grow up, this isn't English Class, it's a RU-vid comment. Furthermore, there are many reasons in believing in Islam, one of which is that Muhammad pbuh had NO reason to just start a religion. Can you give me one reason he would do so?
@minifuzz2531
@minifuzz2531 5 лет назад
@Kuffar Legion First of all, your ignorant because you make baseless claims. Second, the question is WHY would Muhammad pbuh want to change the gullible. Finally, what evidence did you give?
@jesan733

Intelligent man, and he kindof answered the question why he doesn't apostatize: "You need to know the character of the prophet" and so on, i.e. he stays muslim because he believes the narratives he was indoctrinated with. However, there's no reason to believe we are well-informed of the character of the prophet. For instance, read Sahih al-Bukhari 6109: _Narrated `Aisha:_ _The Prophet (ﷺ) entered upon me while there was a curtain having pictures (of animals) in the house. His face got red with anger, and then he got hold of the curtain and tore it into pieces. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Such people as paint these pictures will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection ."_ So, a 50 year old man becomes furious enough with his early teen wife and her new curtains with cute animals to become red in the face and tear her property. And then the narration just say "The Prophet said ...". He has to have said more than that! And I would guess he didn't just say, he shouted. And if you're a muslim, you'll just reject that guess, because you "know" how good the prophet is, so you won't think outside the box and draw the natural conclusions from what little we know of the situation. But your knowledge doesn't take into account how loyal sect members transmit these narratives, how incredibly likely they are to smooth over wrinkles and to glorify him. People who are truly free to think will be able to read between the lines and connect the dots. I'm sorry, but islam isn't divine.
@ronmullick253
@ronmullick253 Год назад
Any Hadith Sahih Bukhari or not could be inauthentic. Remember all Hadith have a chain of transmission flaw. To me it has to pass the believability test.And to me this one does not.It simply just does not make any sense. Whether it was a 50 year old man with a teenage wife is irrelevant.Because that was not uncommon in ancient times.Just like it was not uncommon for someone like Thomas jefferson to have sex with his teenage slave. You are showing your bias by slandering him based on some hearsay evidence.
@jesan733
@jesan733 Год назад
@@ronmullick253 why doesn't it make sense? So whatever was common in ancient times is ok for the supposedly final prophet of god to do? Cousin marriage, child marriage, s-x slavery, torture, genocide and so on? It's funny how reading back muslim sources to muslims always result in various accusations.
@Chasee445
@Chasee445 6 лет назад
What you didn't answer: 1) How is Islam NOT aligned with evolutionary theory? 2) Do you reject those aspects of evolutionary theory simply because of your religion, or do you have a scientifically valid alternative explanation? 3) How is "real" intelligence NOT based on a "code" if we know and can study our physical reality? You're a neuroscientist, after all. 4) How does knowing traditional accounts of the Prophet's life disprove or dismiss schizophrenic or other neurological explanations for his prophecy? 5) Similarly, how should a rational person believe rationally or non-rationally in one prophet but not another or in one revelation but not another? 6) What's NOT rigorous about the academic study of religion, and what makes you so rigorous? 7) Are you suggesting that to do history or science properly as a Muslim, you must tell a theological story while employing the scientific method, and so, in a sense, produce a book of theology as a book of science?
@naerua9267
@naerua9267 5 лет назад
1) The story of genesis 2) No need - The religious and the spiritual offer fine alternatives 3) No idea what you're on about 4) The hadith accounts for an honest man who exercises great moral judgment 5) Competing religious claims of truth 6) Again, no idea what you're on about 7) Not what he said/implied. Science is a functional tool that serves the people of its time. It does not transcend space/time
