Not true, that’s a myth. the state can pick up all the charges they want but if you plead not guilty and the state has no witnesses and/or the victim does not show up to court the charges will be dropped. Police agencies can arrest someone for almost anything but getting a conviction in court is a LOT harder. Good chance these charges were dropped after he paid her off or talked her into not going to court. This is the same reason why you hear of people getting extremely light sentences for major crimes. Because the state didn’t have strong evidence and they were forced to plea deal to make sure they at least got some time.
