I'm glad that the passing loop at Brading has been reinstated, having them pass at Sandown meant that the train service was unbalanced, being every 18 and 42 minutes. Nowadays, once the service is in full swing again, it should mean a proper half hourly service
Lovely to see the D78 and the Island Line getting some good attention, but the nostalgia in me will always yearn for the 1938 stock and its incredible story of perseverance.
From Switzerland a discovery for me. A great joy for me, because the dunce that I am, I do not know this network at all and I did not know that it was still active. So excellent news for this renovation. BIG THANKS for this sharing, beautiful video very well filmed.
I had the pleasure of riding this line whilst in England in 1990. I had never seen ANYTHING like Ryde Pier Head station. Some of the original 1920s rolling stock was still visible in various sidings. I always loved the D Stock on the eastern end of the District Line. Rode it many times while staying with family in Dagenham. Great video.
Hi. Very nicely filmed, especially the initial tracking shot. Looks from the shadow like it was done with a helmet camera and a bicycle. We holidayed on IoW just before the Covid outbreak and there are many great attractions to visit, and here is another one. Thanks.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. As I can't visit at the present time, very nice to see the new through your eyes. That ghastly electronic screech is rather annoying - I wonder what lineside residents will feel about that!. The units look commendably smart, the joining of raised and non raised platform areas rather less so. Looks as though they've had roof leakage issues already, judging by the blackened roof joints?
They don't have that low pitch groan has they start up or that high pitch slow down has they used to back in the London days .but iam still so glad the 78 stock is still here can't wait to come over and say hi
Excellent video especially the pier shots… boy, that whining they make, can see a lot of neighbours complaining about it. Great to see the railway running again, especially with the transformation new stock… next stop Ventnor, Newport and Cowes! PS. I think they missed an opportunity to have continually welded rail though.
Yeah, I do believe it would've been good if they had relaid the whole line with proper ballast as well as putting in the double track between Sandown and Brading which might have seen the track at Sandown lowered. Not a fan of the raised platforms I must confess but then again given the budget they had, I suppose that had to be expected. Ah well, I'll hopefully will be able to get down from Scotland to see the line and hopefully I'll live long enough to see Ventnor and Newport back on the railway map. 🙂
I see they are using D78 stock now. These were brand new when my brother and I started working for London Underground. Just wondering how they get through the tunnel at the end of Ryde pier? I thought it was built to deep level tube guage? Thought that was why the Island Line had to have old deep level tube stock? Surely the D78s are bigger? Can anyone enlighten me?
Hooray its now finally in service. Perhaps Island Line could order few more Class 484s to increase extra capacity during busy times when there is lots of people using the Island Line. They do look really nice.
@@heathercutler6659 I rather think that the screeching is caused by the newly turned wheels over the curves - maybe the rail greasers aren't working properly, or there's not been time yet for the grease to have spread adequately.
