Obviously an older craft but what incredible outfitting and upgrades!!! Whoever owned or still owns this for sale sailboat could make a wonderful living as a cruising/outfitter consultant. In fact some major production manufacturer should hire him as the post sales consultant. I can hear the salesman now. "Thank you, inexperienced, first time purchaser of a boat just like everyone else owns. We appreciate your business and we know that you will have weeks of enjoyment (until reality detonates) using your expensive shiny new toy. Now I understand you are not just a run of the mill sailor. You don't want weeks; you want a lifetime of fun. You are, at least in your dreams, an adventurer! You have a burning desire to sail the Seven Seas, brave the elements and go to all those beautiful exotic places you've seen on RU-vid. Well, we can get you there! Let me introduce you to Bob. Bob knows Boats. In fact that is his company name. Bob can turn your everyday boat into a YACHT! You should see what he did to an Islander 36. Hope you're handy with a screwdriver, soldering iron, volt meter, socket wrench, sander and paint brush and you have another $100 grand. Don't fret. It will be worth every penny." That sounds like sarcasm, and it kinda is, but it has some heavy elements of truth. Buying the darling and pretty boat that was designed and outfitted as a day sailor or weekend coastal cruiser, but expecting it to be an adventuring liveable seagoing platform right out of the factory is mostly a fantasy. Real sailing yachts, such as this Islander 36, do not come cruising capable from the factory. It takes a Bob, either hired, a free super knowledgeable friend or years of trial and error while being wrong way too often. When I retire with my savings, investments and pension, I'm going to find me a boat and a Bob. Or, more intelligently, find me a Bob then a boat.
P. S. Not Bob's fault, but why the Hades do production boat builders put a fornicating banquet table in boat designed for one or two people???? 75% of the main salon dedicated to to a banquet table designed for feeding eight guests at anchorage, powered by a kitchen, sink and counter space designed for TWO! Shrink the dining table down to a four person settee, get rid of the starboard seat and build it up into cabinetry that provides A LOT more storage and countertop space. You know, something useful. Again, a boat mostly designed as a daysailer and to impress your non-sailing guests while tied to a dock. It's a good thing Bob came along or that's all that Islander would ever have been.
Is the guitar included? Your video is a hundred times better than any broker video I've ever seen, good job. And Dang, your boat is setup very nicely! Sailboat data says 770 of them made so I'm guessing there's a great owners group. I'm a manufacturing engineer and am known for writing information on machines using sharpee, so seeing your chain guide written under the locker hatch warmed my heart:) Excellent job! Why are you selling? Such a nice boat! Edit: "American flag so you can represent your country" the video keeps getting better...! Two thumbs up!
My father bought one nearly identical brand new back in 1972. Money wasn't a factor and I distinctly remember looking at everything available. He chose an Islander 36 for good reason. He was right too. It just doesn't get much better than this. If I don't at least go see it & make an offer, I know I'll regret it for the rest of my days.
This is the first time I've ever seen a boat taken out of the slip, do an about turn, and come back in, although I would have enjoyed seeing the result instead of cutting to the interior :) Nice looking boat
I literally cannot fathom wishing to be on the left coast. Watch more news friend. Stepping on needles on the dock or the beach doesn't sound fun to me. Nor does living in a 1984 society. Count your blessings.
It's not often that I get excited over another yacht, but THIS... is worth fighting my wife over! I'll miss her but oh well. A few very minor upgrades & this will take you anywhere worth going to. Jokes aside, this is the first yacht I've seen in decades that I'm seriously considering blowing the dust off my checkbook. The current owner must have brain damage for even thinking of letting her go.
Wouw i want this boat! You took so good care of it! I cannot unfortunately buy on short notice, i want to sell everything and then sail/live onboard. Would you sell it if you have to wait some time until i have wrapped things up? I am serious. 💛
I'm a vet too but can't claim a service connected impairment. I was screwed up before I got there. I haven't talked to the owner yet but based on similar yachts I'd guess somewhere between $32-$36. Leaning towards the high end due to condition. Over $36, I'd start to cry as I walked or swam away. If I can get away to get out there, I might start negotiating around $34 and go from there.
I agree with @mboyer68 , this is a perfect video and an amazing boat. I wish I was ready to pull the plug. In any case, good luck with the sale, but I doubt you'll need it, its an amazing boat!
