The title track is beauty within sadness while the prelude is pure beauty and romantic love

This album is awesome! Something about it, feels like you are there. There is a magic to it..feels like an end to an era..something that happens only once and it did. Also, that final chord progression on the title track, really moving.

Great to hear what this album means to you ! I have the same feeling.. Island is very underrated, lot of King Crimson lovers don't speak so positive about it I love this album and might be my favorite K.C album together with Lizard !! thank you

I gave Islands a 10/10 before I gave ITCOTCK a 10. I had to learn to appreciate the lyrics on ITC before I could give it the credit it deserves. Also- Micheal Giles kicks fuckin ass.

This is my favorite album of all time. I love every second of it, it’s such a personal emotional album in which I have heard nothing like it

Probably my least listened to KC album, BUT every time I do so I remember how amazing it is. Thanks for the prompt to spin it again.

Love Islands! How about a Frances The Mute review?;

Islands is underrated. This line that began with ITCOCK of pastoral music mixed with complex jazz-rock ends here, the last collaboration between Fripp and Sinfield.

I love Islands especially laying back relaxing.It varies berween moments of quiet beauty and classical music. Even the odd thing that happens when at the end of side two you think it's ended but wait about 40 seconds or so and there are noises off being studio directions.

Great album, but I always felt Islands lacks that tight focus and driving force of albums that came before and after. Personally, it’s their only album that I struggle to remember the tunes for. It tends to fall in the shadow of their first 60s-70s run while other top notch masterpieces such as In the Court, Larks’ Tongues, Starless and Red have more to sonically offer to the listener. Still, Islands is a respectable album and far exceeds their 80s material and beyond

Not my favourite era of KC,but i like this one more than Lizard,it has some good JAZZZZZ on it...its a bit more mixed in production than Lizard,but i like the standout songs more The letters and ladies of the road are my standout picks probably,throw in the prelude and formentera lady... But why i dont rate it that high is because of personal bias i dont like the bass,and how much we hear from fripps guitar playing ,also i dont like sailors tale and the title track is not a big thing for me...im not a huge fan of pre 90s KC jams, just not my thing and if the albums were eps without some free jazz jams,id probably rate them higher,might sound stupid but its my personal bias Least fav to favourite The Wake Of Poseidon 1.5/5 Starless And Bible Black 2/5 Lizard 2.5/5 Larks Tongues In Aspic 2.5/5 Islands 3/5 The Power To Believe 3/5 Three Of A Perfect Pair 3/5 Red 4.5/5 In The Court Of The Crimson King 4.5/5 The Construkction Of Light 4.5/5 Beat 4.5/5 THRAK 5/5 Discipline 5/5 How i rank them currently
