Me & my family have visited Arran nearly every year since I was born :) I have some amazing memories & would love to move up there at some point. My one year old daughter had her first holiday there last year & we will be coming back again this year, as always! Arran means so much to us.
Arran indeed is one of the many pearls of Scottland...I have been there cycling with a friend and I would hope that more ppl (not too many ....) would visit that island. It's so beautiful, thanks for sharing, Andy ...your style of narrating reminded me of Sir Attenborough even so the accent seems to be a little different..again, it was so nice to see the places we visited.
Excellent really enjoyed that!! That took me back. Spent a bit of time there back in 2010, three visits, stayed three to four weeks each time, absolutely loved it there, magical place. Have the fondest of memories of Arran... Thanks for posting
I've been visiting Arran since I was in primary school. I'm now in my sixties and still enjoy it every bit as much as I did then. It's lost none of its appeal and leaving on the ferry to go home still leaves me longing for the next visit.
Miss this place so much! used to go on holiday to Arran when I was a laddie, cant wait to see it again threw older wiser eyes and appreciate it properly. Love the video, the memories brought a tear to my eye.
Just completed a potted tour of beautiful Arran and very much enjoyed your take on it. Very much reminiscent of the late and wonderful Tom Weir. Keep up the good work.
Excellent videos just subscribed to your channel. I visit Arran in July my first Scottish island I intend to visit many more on going. Your videos are very helpful.
Excellent little documentary, well researched. I particularly like your self video inclussions, a lot of extra work in setting up and then going back for the camera - but worth it. We did the Arran coastal walk in 2010 and passed through all these places, although I didn't get to spend much time at any of the places. I went back later and spent 2 days at Kildonan to film the seals there. I have to go back!
wonderful film Andy, brings back so many memories. been to arran many times, been going since I was about 3 yrs old, we used to go with other families in my fathers climbing club from Sheffield England. I remember walking all the big hills, and standing on the trig point on goat fell and thinking about being the highest thing on the island...ahh nostalgia. I now take my own wife and children, we stay in Lochranza, I could sit at newton point and watch the claonaig ferry forever so peaceful.
Another excelent video with excellent commentary. Brought back happy memories of our holiday there in May. Saw the house that we stayed in for the week in Corrie. Hazel.
such a beautiful place, the closest I got was RAF Machrihanish back in the 1990s from Raf Henlow when we stayed at Tarbet, who needs to go abroad when such paradise is there
Arran is amazing! I go over there every single year and haven't missed one out. We used to have a house in Shiskine as well but sold it 15 years ago. Life was good back then!
I am 22 years old & have been every year since I was born. Arran means so much to me & my family. So much, that my fiance & I have just booked our wedding at Kildonan Hotel for 2014 :)
Thanks for the comments - glad you enjoyed the video - it is a lovely island - my video comprised of six wonderful day trips to the island one spring - and I didn't know about that memorial - must go back over for a wee look sometime
My brother is dragging a 19st (120kg) anvil to the summit of Goatfell,Arran's highest mountain in order to raise money for diabetes research. To see photos and (hopefully) make a donation google 'just giving big Davy's challenge'
Hi Andy, what a wonderful video! I particularly liked your slightly unusual views, those "off-road" giving a different angle on well known vistas. Also things I didn't know existed, like the War Memorials at Corrie and Kildonan. Have you seen the commemorative stone south of Kilpatrick Point to two airmen who lost their lives nearby during WW2? I did the Clauchlands Point walk for the first time ever only last month. 2014 will be the 50th anniversary of my first visit to Arran.
@Pliokota Thank you for the comments - yes, it's an excellent walk - I pulled a calf muscle on the way up to the falls and I tried to hide it on the video - old age doesn't come itself
@raydvd - thanks for the comments - yes, I filmed it myself using a tripod and the camera bag to sit the camcorder on - my wife doesn't like boats so I am on my own for this.
Great video. Only thing I'll say is you pronounced Shiskine wrong. It's pronounced 'Shi-skin' not Shi-skeen'. My grandparents used to have a house over there. Have so many memories of the place!
My partner and I were quite often on Arran and hope to return still many times. I have seen your Video on «youtube» and was very much impressed about its quality. This gave me the idea to set a link on my own website 3w.muffweibel.ch/startseite/isle-of-arran-sco/. I take it, you dont mind? Otherwise, let me me know and I will take it off.
