THIS is more like it! A lovely metroidvania made by two brothers who have sacrificed so much to get the game made… but is it any good? Yes. Yes it is. Mark
@@kingoppsanti5830 not better, it’s different. HK - hard core difficulty, amazing world and design. Metroid Dread - great level design, decent world but short (comparatively ). Islet - very funny writing, decent platforming and a charming, light hearted world. With a few fresh twists in there but also a bit TOO safe at times.
I was actually looking into this game today and thought to myself "I hope they review it someday on Switch Up". Great timing :)! I will be getting it once they release a patch for the bugs. I love Metroidvania games but I don't like having to redo boss fights more than 3 times. if I can't see its attacks, I will probably get really frustrated and stop playing for months. Putting it on my wish list!
Oooh! I think I'll get this. Thanks to you lads at SwitchUp I've been lured to try and grown to really like Metroidvanias like the 2 Ori's titles and Yoku's Island Express, so this looks right up my alley. Plus I'd like to support the two brothers 👍
Indie game companies made up of just two people are absolutely slaying it this month with Islets and Cult of the Lamb! I'm not a massive metroidvania fan, but the concept of this game and art style are great! If it's as accessible as you say, I'll definitely be picking it up! Thanks for another stellar review!
Grabbed this as soon as it dropped, and am really enjoying it so far. The difficulty does spike every so often (Sky Pirates! Arrrgh...), but I have to say I'm totally hooked and love the progression in terms of adding new skills, leveling up what you have, etc. I can't wait to see what comes later in the game. If done well enough, I dare say this *might* even come close to rivaling Hollow Knight for me... and that's pretty high praise!
What a great little game. Beat it already at 100% completion that came too quickly unfortunately. One of the biggest things this game does is gives you a cheat system. For those of us who just need a short escape, you can make yourself invincible at any point etc. I found the story engaging, and funny at times and I wanted to see the end. Worth it!
I'm so glad you guys reviewed this one. I've been looking forward to this game ever since I played their other game Sheepo (not on switch...on PC, but totally worth the play anyways). Love the chill vibes of both games
This looks lovely. You're comment that it's accessable makes me keen to pick this one up. I like a challenge, but not so much I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing.
I will give it a try, looks fun! I Love the new brighter side of new metroidvanias like this game or Blast Brigade ...vs Dr Creed. Guacamelee too is a fun twist on metroidvania... Great review!
I'm not a lover of metroidvanias (find them too hard usually) but I did see this one pop up this week and loved the story and aesthetics. Now that you've roadtested it for me, I might give it a go. Or add it to my wishlist for a sale maybe.
Me too, It didn't feel like hard tho because the 200% enemy health doesn't apply for bosses, some of them were dead before I could see all of their attacks Great game tho 10/10
Honestly with the E-shop cover and how much shovelware gets on there, I was about to pass as insignificant. Glad you go over these titles I never heard of.
I was messaged from you telling me I'd won a game, was it genuine. I replied to it. I hope I haven't been duped. Great looking game and amazing from a small team.
Sounds like a charming little game. I'll have to wishlist it and look into it when my backlog thins out. I'm also in agreement about Hollow Knight's effect on perception of value vs price. Team Cherry spoiled us.
Adventure time, C’mon, grab your friends, We’ll go to very distant lands, With Jake the Dog, And Finn the Human, The fun will never end, It’s Adventure Time!
Haven't watched the review yet, but I came to you guys to see what you have to say, because I noticed on the eshop that several of the enemies are rip-offs, nearly EXACT copies of some hollow knight enemies and bosses. That kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
Love the look of the game it looks like you could just lose yourself in this game definitely looks likes like a game I’ll be picking up Every time I think I’m finally caught up with newly released games I wanted I watch your videos and there goes that idea as I have to add a crap ton more games to my must buy list
Have I ever heard of this game? No. Does that matter? Of course not. Does it look interesting? Yes. Will I buy it? Possibly. What's stopping me? Backlog.
Game looks great, but is anyone else getting tired of the enormous quantity of Rouge lite/like and metroidvania games? Way to many side scrollers and rogue like/lite games in the eshop.
Let this game be a stepping stone for those 2 brothers so the next time they can do something even greater. As a huge metroidvania fan after playing all sort of metroidvania games from small to big ones i have to say this looked quite good for their 1st try. Played recently Overload escape from nazarick which someone would expect something great out of it reconsidering the budget they possibly could have and IP they used but sadly it was slightly a fluke, my point being, it needs love and dedication to make a good game and not only resources.
Hi SwitchUp! In your recent sales video you mentioned Writhe. I bought it and am totally in love with it! You're right, it's a "loading game" (a game you idly play while you decide which other game you're going to play). Could you maybe make a video about other "loading games"? I'm getting quite burnt out by the increasingly huge games that are releasing nowadays, and playing Writhe made me realise how much I love playing something so simple, yet so addictive! It was really refreshing having that change of pace 🙂
Alright! After watching the whole review, im sold. I'll be getting this when im able. Dont know when i'll be able to get it, but im definitely adding this into my collection. Thanks for the review! 😋
This is why I love your channel, I had never heard of this game, now it is absolutely on my radar so thank you! The protagonist kind of reminds me of Finn from Adventure Time.
From the looks of it, I feel this game is a great edition to the genre on the Switch. I understand that all Metroidvanias are judged by Hollow Knight but when it comes to price, I think some consideration needs to be made with how long that game has been around. I feel comfortable with the price point after seeing what is being presented. I will be adding this to the collection soon.
Hollow Knight is extremely underpriced anyways...it doesn't make sense to judge other games' prices by the one of HK. It is far more worth than what they demand digitally
Such an easy pickup for me. Any new metroidvania on Switch has my attention, but if it has the recommendation from you guys, I know Im in for a good time. Cheers!!
I have never got into metroidvanias but I've added this to my wish list now. The adventure style and discovering things intrigues me. I also love floating cities (Laputa).
I stopped the review at 37 seconds in...🖤 Sorry, but, with an intro like that, I have to avoid seeing anything more before experiencing Islets myself! It's been on my list, and I'm so happy to hear it's good! Not surprised, but very happy
Kind of wish you had a scoring segment that included things along the lines of story, characters, atmosphere, and personality ir something like that. A game like this is really good in its wholesome story and characters, but I feel like that isn't reflected in the score necessarily. Still thanks for giving indies all this love and putting me on to a great game.
