"Back in the day" we had one of these built for us before leaving for Europe and its 240V world. When put in line between the dock and our boat's 120V receptacle, it allowed us to continue living in our boat's 120V world (altho' not at 60 cycles). There was more to the install than this, but it solved the dock power puzzle for us for 4 years. But it was HEAVY!

Great video and great explanation of the usefulness of them. Currently fighting a 208 v issue during a heat wave leading to all sorts of unwanted stuff. Thanks!

Awesome videos - just subscribed as i ran into you isolation videos (diodes vs transformers) - any comment on lightening if one is more attractive than the other or better able to survive a strike (direct or neighboring boat) and the impact to electronics. Another thought is would a faraday cage be better off tied to ground with either of these solutions? Thanks for a fun informative video.

Good qustion hard to answer lightening is so unpredicable, but maybe an isolation transformer might be better as the ground is not connected to shore.
