$ 500 for the commercial Iso-Chain exerciser is a real heart stopper. Thank God there are people like you who take the time and effort to show us how to save money and still have a fully functional exerciser. Thanks. Let's see, 1,800 Thumbs Up X $ 400 savings = $ 720,000 you've saved folks and it's probably even more than that. That should get you some rewards in the next life.

True, but they allow you to split the payment through PayPal over 3-4 months or you can use a low interest credit card. It is well worth the cost but the DIY one will definitely do for many. In my opinion the real game changer is the spring. Such a simple addition changes everything!

Your base is more solid than I was thinking about, I'm going to use your base design > If you look at the old picture of Bruce using one of these I believe the Carabiner clip just slips over your pipe, well that's what it looks like to me by studying the picture.

Cool. Another option for the handle: Take an EZ curl bar, attach a short climbing sling in the middle. I find the shape more wrist friendly, and it is also very comfy for Zercher style holds (holding in the crook of the elbow). Chains are rather noisy and expensive. Tie-down straps with a cam lock (for securing loads) probably won't last forever, but adjust easily and are cheap.

Can't send pic but I made mine with a shoulder width wide piece of strut ( construction materials), three keychain type spring loaded links and Paracord with loop knots every 16". The cord has a little stretch so I ease up to full power in 4 seconds and am now doing 6 sets of 6 second full power holds. The isochain may be wonderful for some folks but all it takes for this is " all you got!"

I just made an Isomax-like static training device, based on Hampton's videos. I needed one each 10 foot long, 2x4 board from Home Depot, drill, screwdriver, screws, one ring dip strap (sold in pairs on Amazon for < $30), one repurposed cable training machine bar ($10 on Facebook Marketplace) and one o-ring carabiner that I've had for years. Caution...2x4 wood is actually ~ 1 3/8 x 3 3/8 in size. Measure carefully before cutting. Home Depot cut my 2x4 board as part of the purchase cost.

Looks great. I like the spring component (years ago I used to use my toddlers' bouncy swing mechanism as an isometric device!). I have seen 2 chain variants with individual handles (so you can work one arm at a time). Just one thing: I would think one of those big screw-in eye hooks would be more than adequate..rather than a bolt, though?

I just noticed - isn't the base made from 2" x 12" lumber planks instead of that 1 inch you posted? Now 2" in lumber is really only 1.5" nowadays. It used to be a full 2" long, long ago in the Before Times. So, actually, someone building this exerciser will need a 2" x 12" x 8' (2 inch thick x 12 inch wide x 8 feet long). The real dimensions would be 1.5" thick x 11.25" wide x 8' long.

I think I will make this in the meantime until I can afford it. Do you think you can attach some sort of dynamometer to this to measure your progress? And do you have a set of exercises to perform on these? Thanks for your content.

"More effective" is too vague. More effective for what - bodybuilding, strength building etc.? Do some Google searches about Isometric benefits and see what you find. I believe that isometrics is more for strength building as it increases muscle, tendon and ligament strength and not so much for building big, water filled bodybuilder muscles. You would look more like a Special Forces soldier rather than an Arnold Schwarzenegger or Dwayne Johnson. In other words, you would have useful, functional muscles and not just useless showy muscles.
