There's a lot of generalized advice out there, but some of it may need to be contextualized if you have high aspirations.
If you want to know more information about the book as it comes out, you can sign up at www.hybridcalisthenics.com/ne...
I don't send many emails so you don't have to worry about spam. Some people actually email me a few weeks afterwards because they're worried they're not getting the emails (sorry about that haha).
If you want more discussions like this, especially beyond fitness, I have a dedicated podcast to that / @coffeewithhampton

I always think "you never will do anything extraordinary". But I am a ER Nurse. I saved so many lifes as part of a team and often alone, but because I get paid for it, it feels like something "ordinary", because it is something that is expected from me.

I used to want to do extraordinary things but as i get older i just want to build a life worth remembering. I dont want to look back at the decisions ive made and feel regret. Some of the goals we chase in life will move us away from loved ones and into a new way of life, new hobbies and new people. Sometimes the grass isnt always greener on the other side and things can never truly go back to the way they were. Foresight is incredibly tricky

You are correct and now that I am older, I need to pay more attention to being exhausted. The new phase of my life is crashing in on me and I am exhausted sooner because I did not address my exhaustion from the previous phase. When I am tired it's like a wall now instead of a minor annoyance. Pay attention to this so you can prioritize your selfcare quicker

Great video. Spent my life thinking I was wrong for wanting to work (for money) as little as possible so that I could spend my time wandering the earth, spending time with family, seeing and studying places of history (which I love). Listen to yourself, make it happen. Yes, listen to wisdom from others but in the end are you true to the person God made? We aren't all created to be 16 hr 7 days a week business people, and that's perfectly fine.

This is a wonderful video and painful for me at the same time. Ever since I was a teenager I felt the urge to improve myself be better at something, be great at something but I got PTSD. And if there's something that can hold you back from progress it's trauma, until you find the right therapist your will and strength can do nothing for improvement. To me there's nothing worse than wanting to excel, improve even, but being held back by something out of my control. Your video reminds me to not give up on that feeling, even though it's painful at the moment. Thank you for that

8:28 I'm a perfect example of both of those things. I try to explain things but i also don't care if people don't want to understand. "Dont tell me i can't because you never did" Is a line from one of my favorite songs. Other people say a lot of things, sometimes they're even correct, but most the time they're not or have no idea what they're talking about. It's just noise. What's important is results. Most people won't care until they see the result.

This video came at a perfect time, I really want to do great things and people who have a passion are very lucky. I realize I just want to help as many people as I can now, but I don't know how. Im 17 and im just going into college. im thinking about starting a UNICEF club and raising money, but i dont feel like thats good enough. I want to choose a career where I can help people, but i really dont know what career i can do. Id like to be a doctor but id just end up cure diseases in the US where people are already pretty well off, and treating people overseas wont do much, youd need to help establish healthcare services locally in those communities. I just dont know what to do to help as many people as i can, or who I can talk to about finding a way.
@zachparade2791
@zachparade2791 6 дней назад
College is a great way to find the answer to that question that is right for you. Try every club and subject that remotely interests you. What you describe is often spoken about in social work as a spectrum of helping individuals versus creating systemic changes. Both are important, and different people are more suited to different places on that spectrum. There’s an analogy that is given in that field that often helps me remember the difference. You are walking along the side of a river. You suddenly see a baby floating down the river. You jump in and save the baby. But then you see another. Then another and another and another. So many babies are floating down the river, you can’t save them all. Some get by you. Suddenly, you wonder where are these babies coming from, so you climb out of the river and run along the bank until you find a factory that is sending babies into the river. Logically, it makes the most sense to try to solve the problem at its root. However, in doing so, many of the individual babies will die before you can make the change. That’s why, when social work or public policy is done well, it strives to both help individuals and create systemic change. Sorry for this long reply. I hope whatever you decide you are able to make the world a better place. ✌️🍀🙏
@be419
@be419 6 дней назад
@@zachparade2791 No, thank you for the long reply! I really appreciate that you took the time to write this out! @zachparade2791
@zachparade2791 6 дней назад
@be419 Yes, I will tell you a bit of my story, but I would recommend taking it as a cautionary tale of what not to do. At 13, I started martial arts and became very passionate about it. From 16 - 22, I taught martial arts at other people’s dojos. Unfortunately, I let a lot of things get in my way from owning my own dojo and went down a number of career paths that took me away from my dream. Now I will turn 45 in a few months. Life goes sooooo fast!! I’m happy to report I am finally taking real steps towards owning my own martial arts school, but I have a ton of work and obstacles to overcome to make that happen. One thing I would recommend is to always prioritize your health and fitness, regardless of what you choose for your career path. I let myself get distracted with work and not take care of my overall wellness. That is one of the obstacles I have to overcome to start my dojo. Anyway… you’re in good hands if you are listening to Hampton and following his advice. I hope this helps you in some way! Best of luck on your path! ✌️🍀🙏

One of the ways to figure this out is go and talk to people in the positions you want to be in. Talk to doctors, people in healthcare- the more you talk to people, you'll learn what aligns and you'll discover careers you didn't even know existed. Oftentimes there are careers at the intersection of different fields & you'd be surprised. + keep trying things, learn your strengths and never hesitate to ask for a position, or a job or a volunteer spot - anything you want to do & you'll learn on the job - most people do!

In many cases you'll be terrible before you're good, and good before you're (maybe) great. If this is something you struggle with, I'd say pick a hobby you really like and see it through for a set period of time (say, a year.) Enjoy it regularly, knowing you can quit after the end date. See what happens! If it turns out the hobby wasn't for you, at least you learned to see something through. Good luck! 🙂

I used to think the same until a friend of mine pointed out that I switch around hobbies so much because what I like about them is learning. Now I just say my hobby is learning, and my goal isn't being exceptional at everything, just average at way more things than most people, which is being exceptional itself. I don't know if that's relevant for you but hopefully it helps

A lot of people don’t understand that humans usually want to be great at something because it’s fulfilling and fun, not because it’s important for the world. They would rather everyone be on the same level so that they don't have to work as hard to be average. I am not a great example of physical fitness, although I feel I am in better shape than most, but I applaud the people that want to excel and push themselves.
