900 bucks is way too steep of a price for a mini portable vocal booth. You could probably pimp the hell out a closet and get better results.

Go ahead, I have built a vocal booth out of a closet. I could have also taken the money and light cigarettes with it. Sounds shitty as hell, totally dull. After some research this is the cheapest way to have decent recordings and living peacefully with your neighbours. Greets from Germany.

A few OC703 panels and fabric to cover them, 1/4 plywood for the box, some pivot hinges, and a sound blanket for a “door” is all you would need to recreate this.

Just got the ISO VOX 2 second hand, for about 1/4 of the original price. It solves a lot of problems for me like reflections, AC, external noise, worrying about neighbours. It's heavier than expected but still very portable. I looked at many options and they were ineffective e.g. moving blankets, a pain to make or super expensive so I'm happy with this. It's a tiny bit boxy and muddy because the size but the pros far outweigh the cons.

@@skraxx4521 The isobox is for rehearsal because it is not good acoustically and won't fit most microphones. The Imperative Audio vocal booth is for acoustics and has slight isolation only (Id questimate like 15%) I won't bog you down with information because there is just SO much to know. Learn about gobos (one brand I'm eventually going to buy from is Music city acoustics) look into soundproof cow's floor padding or other products. Talk to professionals, understand your budget and that you cannot expect an insane amount of isolation without thousands of lbs, many thousands of dollars, and thickness. Look into whisper rooms. Please talk to good acousticians. If your in LA Evolve Acoustics is very responsive to budget. GIK is reputable. Learn about materials like roxul safe n sound versus rockboard and fiberglass. If you have question let me know. Isolation is a whole different ballgame versus just getting good recordings.

I'm thinking about getting this. The closet-solution seems like a good idea, but my apartment is really small and i don't have room for a closet. This i could probably make room for. I'm not very good ad singing in front of people and i'm always afraid people will hear me. Luckily my apartment is pretty well isolated. Do you think i could muffle the sound even more if i threw, say a blanket, over the isovox when using it?

You can build one at home depot. It's all about mass, which affects the transmission of sound through any particular medium. Super secret formula = 3/8" drywall + rocksul insulation foam + 30% compression + 3/8" drywall + another layer of sound insulation facing towards the microphone. Directions sandwich them together build your self a mini room and boom you got yourself a high absorption, high transmission mini sound shed. For way less then $1200 bucks. For that much you could renovate your bathroom. Or if you have a closet that you can use just line the whole thing with sound insulation from homedepot. Done!

So here is the truth about this product. I've got mine yesterday . It looks and smells nice , somewhat pleasant on the eye and not much space consuming. It also does a fair 15db reduction (I've tested it with the app I have on my phone) . Strangely enough the same amount of reduction I get when I cover myself in blankets (I mean cmone ,we all do that if we don't want to be heard when we sing loud ...). However another thing that you should pay attention to , is the fact that you can only use "standing" mics inside , my dynamic shure 57 doesn't fit into the booth , because it is too close to the back lid. Bummer ! And how should I record my vocals with SM57B ? I mean this is the greatest mic for vocals ever... didn't think that through ... And finally the sound within the booth ... Well yeah it is boomy to my taste. It is not as boomy as being in actual box , but still . I don't really even considering the boominess as an issue , cause I can't record with my mic inside !!!! it doesn't fit ! it should be horizontally placed and not vertically . And 15db reduction , definetly not worth the price I've paid. I would love this product if it was at least twice as cheap. But for that hight price I do have hight expectations , and that box doesn't deliver ... Oh and BTW , I don't know if this video is edited or the mic was far away from the isovox . But When I sing inside , my wife hears me from 2 rooms away ... So I guess it didn't solve my problem... Thanks to Thomann , I can return the box within 30 days ... Which I think I will do ... Never was so disappointed in my life...

I was also getting mine a few days ago, but I'm actually very happy with it. No problems anymore with my "disturbed neighbor", but i have not done any measurements. I'm recording a lot of voice-over and soon also podcasting, and this thing gives a great dry and clear sound. may be a bit bass-heavy but it's easy fixed with my new fabfilter eq ;) It's a keeper!
@yanbraslavskiy7524
@yanbraslavskiy7524 7 лет назад
I think it is suits your purposes very well. For podcasting it makes your voice dry and bass heavy , and that what is needed for podcasting . As a podcaster you probably don't sing or scream loud inside the booth , which I do. So all you screamers out there , just know that my neighbors can still hear me.

Thanks for the review. I'm considering this for voiceover work but the price is a little steep. I've seen other videos where people make their own recording booth with PVC piping and shipping blankets for a couple hundred bucks. Maybe if I could test this somewhere myself without first buying it that would be helpful. Might need to plan a trip up to NY or Sweetwater HQ.

Good luck with that. They use special materials and it's portable, it comes with a mic stand and everything, I mean, it's definitely not a 30 bucks investment. Probably $300. They build it for you and they need to make a living out of it so you pay $1000. And it's really important for the sound, I mean, if you spend $3000 for a Neumann microphone and then you record with a lot of room bleed, you're literally wasting money. Oh and to be honest, I prefer recording in large rooms with the natural reverb and no isolation, lol, but not everyone can do that (neighbours complaining, bad sounding rooms, etc.).

So i did this about 4 years of effort continuously without gaping , eventually my singing voice became stronger day by day but it's been like a few months that i had not been going into the jungles because I'm afraid i could be eaten by leopards and bears that roam around the jungle sometimes ...........so im really very happy to finally see a thing that could satisfy my needs . @@therealrussellsmyth I think its 140cm x 140 cm in lenght and with. And 200 cm in height. Sorry I'm based in europe where we use cm and meters hahha. But it's good. I'd actually tried the Isovox 2 in a music shop, and It was quite good, but the sound reduction from the outside was no as much as I wanted, do I decided to build one myself. It ended up being almost just as expensive as the isovox, maybe saved 200 dollars. I ended up going back to the hardware store a couple of times to get more stuff like wood and isolation. It was a really messy project since i'm not a constructor but in the end I'm really happy with the result

camfre4k delighted to hear That sounds excellent I’m also more interested in outside ambience reduction over sound source reduction

Eveyrone is saying this, but there is absolutely 0% chance that it would be nearly as good as this product, and if you`re a singer or even a beginner you will hear the imensing difference.

I think that your thinking of it backwards...it’s to keep sound from getting to your mic not keeping you quiet to others.

No, it's actually advertised BOTH ways. To dampen ur voice to others and to stop surrounding noise from messing ur recording.

Not surprisingly, sticking your head inside a box and signing into a mic sounds like you are singing with your head stuck in a box. I think it absolutely sounds boxy.
